I totally agree with the most recent published review (6/2025). I lived on Topsail Island twice over the years, always noticed the Loggerhead Inn but hadn't stayed at any short-term place until this week. I don't care for the chain brands, but they're easy to avoid on the island as there ARE none : ) I can say that current pictures on the website are totally accurate. I also don't doubt the experiences posted years ago, because when I was singing the Loggerhead's praises to a staff member during my recent stay, she said that current management has worked hard to upgrade and update the place, that "It used to be somewhat of a dive" (her words). I absolutely can say that's no longer the case! Though I don't care for the visual sterility of the "chains," I'm pretty much anal about cleanliness. The Loggerhead has that in spades. I don't even take anything into any room before pulling up sheets to check mattress seams for evidence of bedbugs! (Yes, anal I know, but has been to my benefit in the past - at a "chain" place.) My room was squeaky clean, including towels, bathroom, floors, and bedding. Moreover, the cleaning staff appears to take pride in their work. My room was extremely clean and quite comfortable. The walk from my room to the beach access was shorter than some walks in a Walmart parking lot. But 2 nitpicky features stood out to me. (1) It has been my experience in other places that management leaves NO electrical outlet accessible to guests, that it isn't even possible to charge a phone without unplugging something, often from an outlet behind furniture. I took a power strip with me this time, only to discover that my Loggerhead room had FOUR totally unused and fully accessible outlets for guest use. (2) I've also often lamented not having brought paper towels with me, so I had a roll in the car for this trip. Yep, found a roll in the room when I arrived. Also, I had some remote work to do during my stay and found the wifi service to be flawless. The Loggerhead isn't totally transparent in its pricing - added about a 36% "service charge" to its published room rate - but total price is reasonable and competitive in the November off season and in line with other Topsail independents. So no harm no foul, but also no absurdly low price touted on the website. I have to go back to the area in a month. I'll be staying at the Loggerhead again and looking forward to it. read more

The room was nicely updated and very clean. The grounds and common area were well maintained with a cute area for meeting with rocking chairs, Adirondack chairs and firepit. The pool was inviting and the walk to the beach was easy and less then five minutes. Great proximity to restaurants and shops. The staff was very kind. I accidently left a backpack with my wallet in front of our car and they secured it and called us immediately. read more

pretty nice! the bed (we got a king) was very comfortable, shower was good, ac worked like a charm and I mention that because we went when it was 100 degrees outside so it mattered. them being pet friendly was a huge plus. wish the tv was literally anything larger than basically an ipad on the wall across the room, the dehumidifier in the room was very loud, and the price was a bit high for just one night but all in all it was a charming little place! I feel like my complaints are nitpicky, and only a small handful of people like myself will actually care about them and for everyone else it'll be just fine. read more

Having stayed in many beach properties over the years, I had very low expectations. Place said it is renovated recently so I raised my hopes a little - especially after I saw the reviews. Got our keys from the rental place and tried the door. The door knob was about to fall off the door. Cute paint and sea shells on the dresser. That's where cute ends. Called the front desk to fix the door handle. Fixed quickly. Bath towels gross with stains and wear. See pics. Hook on back of bathroom door rusted and about to fall off. Front door has huge gap in it. Put bedspread over window because no privacy with cute window covering. No outlets in bathroom. Tried to blow dry hair ( with my own dryer) from bedroom but hard to see. Almost cut my foot on screw under bed. Best thing is location. read more

DO NOT book this place! it was over $300.00 per night. my college dorm room was nicer. our room had one night stand with the queen bed pushed against a window wall, one desk chair, no desk, one small chest of drawers and no luggage racks. my suitcase was open on the floor and husbands covered the tiny chest of drawers. they expected us to go get towels and sheets from mostly absent employee during the day. This is the beach for goodness sakes. when I complained. I was asked if I read the blue binder in the night stand. r u kidding?????? they essentially blamed me for not reading the fine print. JUST a don't do it. I wished I hadn't and you would too. I just hate that I spend almost a thousand dollars for this terrible experience. run, don't walk, somewhere else. read more

We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. The staff was super responsive to issues, which we did have, but were remedied quickly. The rooms do have a smell of cigarette smoke. I wasn't sure if it was the cleaner or what as they offered us other rooms and they all had similar smells. When I got home however my husband asked why our clothes smelled like smoke when I went to put away the ones we hadn't worn. None of us smoke so the smell of the hotel stuck to the clothes left in the room. The room was nice, the linens and towels clean, the outside showers and pool were perfect for after a couple hours at the beach. The hotel is very safe and walkable from stores and restaurants. My only concern is whatever that smell was and that we were breathing it in. My son is super sensitive to smells and smelled it immediately, but they used a machine in the room and he did not have issues after. The staff was fantastic. read more

Booked for a last minute overnight stay. When booking we were specifically looking for somewhere dog friendly. The website as well as third party booking mentions the location being dog friendly. Never mentioning only specific rooms are dog friendly. About 30 minutes after arriving we received a knock on the door by extremely unfriendly front desk saying our room was not dog friendly and we would be charged high additional fees and moved to a room that was dog friendly if even available. How do you not know what is available in a small motel? After the extremely rude interaction we had we decided to pay more to stay somewhere else than give this establishment any more money. I just drove home from a four-night stay at the Loggerhead. I'll go back. I usually go to this area with my family and rent a house but I had some time off so I went with just my dog for a few days. I didn't need a whole house. The rooms are small and it is a bit rustic. If you seek luxury, this place isn't for you. But it is reasonably priced, it is very clean and it is a short and easy walk to a great beach. You can also walk to a couple of nice restaurants and shops. I never got in my car two of the four days. Plus, the staff is wicked nice and helpful. Lori, Cindy and crew are responsive and friendly. When they met my dog, they gave me a couple of extra beach towels. The coffee maker in my room wasn't working properly. I got a new one right away. When I asked about getting a cab to go pick up my car at a nearby repair shop (I also reviewed the car place!), they found me a free ride instead. We had a great mini-vacation here. Again, nothing fancy. Simple and clean and it won't ruin your wallet. I will be back. read more

This place is great, and even came here for the second year in a row! You can't beat the price and the location (less than 5 min walk to the beach). Our room was clean, cute, and while it's small-- you're there for the beach, not the room itself! Our room had a bed, dresser, fridge, coffee machine, and bathroom. The site itself has picnic tables, a grill, places to wash your feet, etc. Highly recommend staying here! read more

Horrible Had booked through booking.com for a four night stay. when I got there I advised the front office manager that I may have to leave early for a family situation she first said unless I had ins it would be no refund, then texted me that I would have to pay for the time I stay and the booking fee, which I was in total agreement. Several text messages and even trips in person to the office confirmed this - only to leave and find I was charged for the entire stay!! A nightmare as I would have worked something out and given the room to a friend had I know this. The tiny room wasn't worth $895 even had I been able to stay! Clean, very close to the beach, quiet and very affordable. The room was a little bare bones but comfortable, and we didn't get a WiFi signal but that was fine with us. We went to Topsail to go to the beach and unplug/unwind, not hang out in a motel room and spend time on the internet, and this motel was perfect for that. Hunga Bunga Java, one of the best cups of coffee I've had in a long time, is right next door. The staff was friendly and courteous. Only thing I would have liked to see was maybe another lock on the door. read more

Not a bargain, just cheep. I chose this hotel because of the price and that they claimed to have wifi. I was very disappointed. First off the room was very small. There wasn't even a closet. There wasn't even a phone in the room! We asked for extra pillows and towels. They brought us the pillows but exclaimed that they couldn't give us extra towels because they only had one washing machine. The wifi didn't work. We went to the front desk several times to get help with it but it was spotty at best. When I told the guy working there (he might have been the owner) that I called about the wifi before I booked and was disappointed it didn't work. He said well we didn't lie we have wifi in the office. We won't be staying there again. read more

A total nightmare. The rooms were clean, but very small and very outdated. Bathroom was not much more than a closet with antiquated fixtures. The air conditioner rattled and squealed so much, we had to turn it off, and try to sleep in our small, stuffy room. We left a day early because we could not take another night of no sleep, but were billed for it anyway. When we complained about the bill, we were told we did not give them proper notification. The problem is, there is no one to notify. It is a very strange set up: there is no hotel clerk or manager on site, you have to try to contact them by phone or Internet only. read more

Affordable and friendly staff! Our room was spacious and always kept clean. The housekeeping staff took excellent care if us all week. The room was beautifully decorated, not cheesy, and the bed was comfortable. They offered a deal of one night free when you booke 5 nights Sunday-Thursday and it was worth it! Heater did not work on a sub-50 degree evening in early May, and since the windows have box A/C units, the cool air drifts in. We struggled to sleep as a result. They would not give us any sort of a discount or refund, but did bring in some space heaters for the next day, and were generally friendly about it. The locks on the door are bad -- just doorknob ones, easy to get past. There is no chain nor padlock. Be aware, I wouldn't leave valuables inside. Cheap towels, very hard water. Mirror was dislodged on the wall. For some reason, the housekeeping service came in and folded our towels, but did not touch the bed sheets, replenish soaps, etc. No biggie, just a little odd. Smells musty. That said, the bed was fine comfort-wise, no bugs that we saw, it was OK. Right next to Hunga Bunga Java, which has great coffee. Just worth more like $40/night, not $75/night. And check the heater or A/C the moment you get in, in case something's not working. read more

We scheduled to stay here a couple nights through Airbnb, but had to reschedule due to personal conflicts. While we were grateful to reschedule, I wish we would have just cancelled and cut our losses. This motel is incredibly unprofessional and we had a terrible stay. We drove for five hours just to show up to no one in the front office. We had to call a number just to figure out how to check into our rooms. Ten minutes after calling, they let us know they had emailed us the code into the room...2 months ago! Do they change the codes between guests? It makes me question the safety of staying here. The code didn't even work. We called again and said someone would be there in 5 minutes. It's raining, it's 10pm and we had all our stuff and figured it wouldn't be worth sitting in the car for five minutes. Except they showed up about 20 minutes later, which feels like forever after driving five hours and standing in the rain. The room was cute, but we immediately noticed it felt just as humid as outside. The next morning, we discovered a crack between the A/C wall unit and the wall. It was obvious this hole in the wall was slightly too tall for the A/C, letting all of the humidity in from outside. It was uncomfortable and we felt like we were swimming in the room. With it being a rainy weekend, we were pretty much confined to the room and felt it was too uncomfortable to stay another night. We took a photo of the crack and checked out early. By the way, no one sitting at the desk in the middle of the day. We waited a few minutes before one of the ladies noticed us from the other room. I've never been to a motel where there wasn't someone sitting on site 24/7. AirBnb tried to get us a refund for this miserably failed trip, but the motel refused and said they wished they would have known and could have moved us to another room. Give them another chance after all that happened? No thanks. Poor management. Cheaply built motel. It's not even worth the price. read more

We booked this Inn for a last minute holiday weekend trip. Prices were fair and they even made an exception to their normal policy to accommodate our short stay. We were late to arrive on Saturday night and the office called us to inquire when we were arriving to be sure we were able to get into our room for the night. Turns out we were only 15 minutes away at that point, but I thought this was a nice touch. Upon arrival we checked in and the manager on duty was extremely friendly and checked us in very quickly. The room is what I expected it to be. Rather small, only accommodating 2 people, but well maintained. For the price and proximity to the beach as well as restaurants (walking distance to all) I thought it was a great place to stay. Honestly, my only issue the whole time here was the lack of a decent pillow. Usually with any lodging stay we can find one pillow that is decent, but these were nothing more than the width of a carpet remnant! We had to use some folded towels AND the skinny pillow. Not a deal breaker, by any means, but would bring my own pillow next time. As some have mentioned, TV's are out of date, but c'mon, you're at the beach, who watches TV?? I would definitely stay here again. Great value and good quality. read more
