Walkway to the beach
Tori M.

Overall the St. Regis Resort is a nice place to stay if you really just like the beach and relaxing. It's a nice resort, but all of the photos they show really make it seem bigger than it is. The two pools are kind of small (mostly the indoor one) and the game room has only about 6 games in it which include a claw machine, pool, air hockey, DK, pinball, and a stacking game where the grand prize is a rubix cube. The view of the beach is really pretty, though and it's not a very far walk to get to the sand. There were also a few lightbulbs that were burnt out and they brought more to our room very quickly, the staff is also very nice. If you're planning on being on your phone or on the internet at all -- don't. It's pretty much impossible. The WiFi is very bad. And there's barely any service. You could be watching a YouTube video fine for 30 Seconds and then it'll freeze and buffer for 5 minutes and you just give up because it's taking too long. Also, my sisters got stuck in one of the elevators so we ended up using the stairs most of the trip but that was mostly for us to feel healthier and in shape, haha. (We were in the 3rd building 2nd floor) There aren't too many fun places close by that we saw. There is a little park near the beginning of the road that has an ice cream shop (Bada Bing) which is very good, and then a few restaurants, beach shops, and a food lion not too far of a drive from that. But if you want to drive about half an hour to get to surf city they have a few nice places there. I really recommend the topsail escape room and the fractured prune doughnuts if you do go here

We've stayed at this motel many times over the past three years and have generally had positive…read moreexperiences. However, our most recent visit was extremely disappointing and unsettling due to an encounter with the manager's husband, Joseph Griffin. Over the years, we've heard stories from others about Joseph being aggressive and hostile toward guests, but we had never experienced it firsthand -- until now. During this stay, I was in the room asleep with my 3-year-old while my husband walked to the nearby Dollar General. A friend of mine, who I didn't even know was stopping by, came up the outdoor stairs with her dog to knock on our door, unaware that pets aren't allowed upstairs. The manager, Nell Griffin, came out and politely let her know that dogs were not allowed on the upper level. My friend apologized and immediately began walking the dog back downstairs. That should have been the end of it -- but then Joseph came out and began yelling at her very aggressively. Her father, who was with her, tried to calm things down, but Joseph continued to escalate the situation. As they left, he took down their license plate number. Soon after, Joseph came up to our room, yelling that we were being evicted and charged a $350 cleaning fee -- despite the fact that no dog ever entered our room, and I was asleep the entire time with my child. My husband wasn't even on the property when it happened. We tried to calmly explain that we didn't know what was going on, but Joseph refused to listen and told us to leave with no refund. When my husband returned, he spoke with Nell, who was much more professional and understanding. After explaining the situation, she allowed us to stay. Still, the experience left me feeling unsafe and uncomfortable, especially being alone with my 3-year-old while my husband was away fishing. I wanted to speak to Nell about how upsetting the situation had been, but I didn't feel safe raising the issue further out of fear Joseph might escalate things again or involve the police. This entire situation was blown way out of proportion by Joseph, after Nell had already handled it respectfully. His behavior was aggressive, unnecessary, and unprofessional -- and it made us seriously question whether we'll return to a place we've stayed at loyally for years. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the property owners directly, either by phone or email, to discuss how this situation will be addressed and hopefully rectified.

We were loading up our car to leave, checkout time is 11am, and at 11:02 he told my fiancée that we were gonna be charged because we weren't out by 11am, the charge is ANOTHER WHOLE DAY, there were 2 other party's standing in line at the office, so for a 3 minute delay or less they made over $600.00 off decent hard working people!!!! Well I am not going to accept it, if they charged us for a day we weren't there thats forgery and we will take it from there! And NO ONE ever emphasized this, they did emphasized that the wifi password has a I in it not the number "1"... This was all up to the manager/owner discretion to charge a late check out fee or not and then they have the audacity to forge unapproved / unsigned charges on your credit card!!!! Customers BEWARE!!!!

Upon entering the pier shop, one is greeted by a gruff gentleman who has little time for those who do not immediately understand the plethora of rules. We had to deal with his condescending attitude again as we left the pier. When leaving, visitors are to go through a gate that leads to a path around the shop rather than back through the shop. The gate was stuck and could not be opened after numerous tries. We went back through the shop and had to listen to him tell us we had not tried hard enough. The 5th star is withheld due to this gentleman's attitude with the public. The pier is wonderful. It is very well maintained and obviously popular among the local fishermen and fisherwomen. There were many stations to cut, filet and clean one's catch. A plethora of benches line the pier for seating. A ruler is present at the end of the pier to measure fish, and QR codes are posted to order lunch from the attached restaurant. A large observation tower sits at the end of the pier. The pier rules are posted in plain view and there is even a fire extinguisher should a need arise! We really enjoyed seeing what the fishermen and women were catching and all of them were very friendly and willing to share their knowledge. I would definitely recommend taking a walk on the pier when in the area.

CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT…read more I so badly wish that I could leave a 5-star review for the Island Inn! We really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, room was clean, beds comfortable, and coffee maker hot. Unfortunately, after returning home from our great weekend trip I found that my credit card had been overcharged for the balance of the room ...by quite a lot. Thinking it was a simple mistake that could be fixed, I called right away on Monday morning and spoke to someone who took my info and said I would get a call back. She also advised me to email over my original booking receipt that showed my total. I did so. Over the next week I called and left messages two more times, emailed again, and reached out on social media. I got an immediate response on social media that someone would call me back as soon as possible. It has been days, and still nothing. I am absolutely baffled about why no one will talk to me about this overcharge. The real bummer is that we enjoyed our stay so much, we were already talking about returning next year. Now there is no way I would trust this company with my financial info ever again. Scrolling through reviews from the past few weeks, I can see I am not the only person this has happened to.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!…read more We've lived in the area nearly 3 years, and we've tried multiple boarding facilities. Some aren't bad, but they're pricey and everything is charged separate. Some aren't so great, so you get what you pay for... SALTY PAWS is the best of all the worlds! Their prices are affordable, especially with everything included, AND they also take amazing care of my dogs. Seriously, every time they stay, they're so happy and well cared for when I picked them up. They are always clearly exhausted from playing all the time, and each time we go back, they run to the staff to give them love and head right back to the back. We've since moved from Sneads Ferry closer to Jacksonville, and I wouldn't even consider taking them somewhere else when we vacation. I'd drive an hour if I had to, just so I have piece of mind that they're in good hands while we're gone. p.s. I have a lab and a shiba inu. Everyone loves the lab, but very few people have ever really liked our shiba... except the staff at Salty Paws. Our little "cat dog" has actually made friends there. It's a miracle :)

I totally agree with the most recent published review (6/2025). I lived on Topsail Island twice…read moreover the years, always noticed the Loggerhead Inn but hadn't stayed at any short-term place until this week. I don't care for the chain brands, but they're easy to avoid on the island as there ARE none : ) I can say that current pictures on the website are totally accurate. I also don't doubt the experiences posted years ago, because when I was singing the Loggerhead's praises to a staff member during my recent stay, she said that current management has worked hard to upgrade and update the place, that "It used to be somewhat of a dive" (her words). I absolutely can say that's no longer the case! Though I don't care for the visual sterility of the "chains," I'm pretty much anal about cleanliness. The Loggerhead has that in spades. I don't even take anything into any room before pulling up sheets to check mattress seams for evidence of bedbugs! (Yes, anal I know, but has been to my benefit in the past - at a "chain" place.) My room was squeaky clean, including towels, bathroom, floors, and bedding. Moreover, the cleaning staff appears to take pride in their work. My room was extremely clean and quite comfortable. The walk from my room to the beach access was shorter than some walks in a Walmart parking lot. But 2 nitpicky features stood out to me. (1) It has been my experience in other places that management leaves NO electrical outlet accessible to guests, that it isn't even possible to charge a phone without unplugging something, often from an outlet behind furniture. I took a power strip with me this time, only to discover that my Loggerhead room had FOUR totally unused and fully accessible outlets for guest use. (2) I've also often lamented not having brought paper towels with me, so I had a roll in the car for this trip. Yep, found a roll in the room when I arrived. Also, I had some remote work to do during my stay and found the wifi service to be flawless. The Loggerhead isn't totally transparent in its pricing - added about a 36% "service charge" to its published room rate - but total price is reasonable and competitive in the November off season and in line with other Topsail independents. So no harm no foul, but also no absurdly low price touted on the website. I have to go back to the area in a month. I'll be staying at the Loggerhead again and looking forward to it.
