It's better than it looks walking up to the room. I'm picky and it was up to my standards. I love the view and that it is in very close distance to a decent restaurant. Everything seemed clean. They updated and you can see that but still a few more amenities to update to get a five star but like I said I'm picky. Overall would definitely stay again.

We were in Wilmington for a baby shower and decided to stay the night. We had not planned this so we were looking for places while driving down the beach. Of course most places had no vacancies and it after 8pm so all the property rental offices were closed. We get to Surf Motel Suites first, let me say I don't stay in anybody's motel! Not until last night! When I say I have found a new respect for motels well this one anyway. Lol! The suite was very clean, king bed was super comfy, and the view was spectacular!!! If your in the area and need a nice clean place to stay. Don't pass by Surf. You want Be disappointed!

We were just driving the strip looking for a place to stay when we decided to stop into this one. The man at the front desk was very nice and told us of stuff in the area that we could do. The room was like a mini apartment. We had a king suite there was a bedroom with a small tv, a bathroom, and a kitchen/living room area with stove, dishwasher, big fridge and a sofa with a pull out bed. We had a sliding glass deck and there was a grassy area and a path to get you on the beach. It was so nice there were about 5-7 rabbits that lived in the grassy area. I heard no noise. The pool was very nice. This motel is close to the pier and seems to be on the quiet side of town. Can't wait to go back and stay again.

Great oceanfront location with excellent views from the balcony. Recently remodeled and it was done well. So much better than a hotel room as the king-size bedroom is separate from the living room and kitchen. Low key and classic property at our favorite beach.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the Mother's Day flower bar they had set up. Guests could work directly with the florist to create their own bouquets, which was such a unique and fun experience. Molly and Lily were both so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The resort also had several activities going on during the weekend, including live music on Saturday night and yoga on Sunday morning. I'm not sure if they offer events like this every weekend, but there was definitely a nice selection of things to do during my stay. One of my favorite amenities was the beach chair and umbrella service. It made the beach experience so much more relaxing not having to drag chairs and equipment down to the sand yourself. The pool area was fantastic as well. The indoor and outdoor pools are connected side-by-side, so you can easily bounce back and forth between the two depending on what you're in the mood for. There was also a hot tub, although my only complaint is that a resort this size could really benefit from having three hot tubs instead of one. The bar had excellent drinks, and Colleen was an awesome bartender. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the cocktail list and gave great recommendations. I ate at Solstice Kitchen + Cocktails, and the food was very good. The BBQ chicken flatbread was delicious. But honestly, the view from the restaurant may have been the best part. The patio overlooks the ocean and has rocking chairs where you can sit and relax while taking in the scenery. Overall, this was an amazing experience, and I would absolutely stay here again.

(Some people in our group went to Carolina beach last year and they said it felt like a dive bar and Wrightsville Beach was much nicer. ) The sandwich shop next door had decent prepared sandwiches, coffee, and alcohol. We also had a good dinner at Oceanic across the street. The pool was very nice and never very busy. Our rooms were clean and the place was quiet (except for footsteps above). Each suite is individually owned so there was variability in the kitchen set up (e.g., full-sized fridge vs smaller, oven vs toaster oven, high table vs regular table) and decor of some units is more updated than others. Also, my unit had blackout drapes but others didn't. They also had beach chairs, beach towels, and sand toys available to use. WiFi was fast enough to upload pictures to social media but was slow for more data-heavy tasks. Breakfast is available in the lobby starting at 7:30. There are no tables to eat in the lobby but they have trays so that you can take the food back to your room. They had fresh fruit, juices, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, instant grits, packaged pastries, coffee (no decaf), and tea. Taphne and Steven were extremely nice and very helpful. Our reservations were complicated and changed at least twice and they were very accommodating. We booked directly (instead of booking dot com) and Taphne gave us a discount.

I read the reviews and saw that it was very clean, as traveling with small children who require lots of toys etc I opted for the convenience of location. I quickly learned how thin the walls were and so loud music playing all night , after being in the water and sun I got zero sleep. Everyone leaves at 11 and only option advised was to call the police. Originally gave this place 4 stars but now dropping it to 1 as no matter how much fun you have if you don't get any rest you question if it was even worth it. The balcony furniture is plastic and uncomfortable so we dragged out the room chairs which made balcony sitting way more comfortable. I do have to say the entire staff there are very nice and very courteous! Even having said that I would stay again because of the ocean views, at least our room, and the location to direct beach access. One note to make the parking is limited to only one vehicle per room and its tight. If you leave the hotel for dinner out in your car you very well may not get a space in the hotel and will have to pay to park your car overnight. I don't know why they just don't mark each parking space correlated to you room number because they do give you a car tag for your car at check in.???

Got checked in quickly and our room was nice and clean. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary or concerning in the room. Everything was nice and hot and tasted great very pleased with the breakfast. Staff greeted us each time we entered or exited the lobby. The reason for the 1 star loss: -The elevators smell, I don't know what it is by my wife and I both noticed it every time we got into either elevator, it's not pleasant and we were in a hurry to get out. -When we came back to the hotel on night 2 our toilet was having issues. It wouldn't fully flush, it just very slowly drained down and then kept a really low water level. I called the front desk and told them, I advised them there was nothing in the toilet just water but we needed it looked at as we couldn't use it. They said the guy that could fix it had stepped out and would be back in about an hour. Fast forward 2 hours later and nothing. We call again and are told he didn't come back, the night audit guy could fix it wait for him in a couple hours. The night audit guy never came so I went downstairs. I asked if he was night audit and he said yeah and asked if I was the guy with the toilet issue. I told him yes, he said he had no idea how to fix it but handed me a plunger and said I was welcome to try to fix it myself. Not the best customer service I've had.

(Getting here on the main narrow road - which ends right at the Resort - you'd be lucky to see cars, let alone traffic. Now, this means: quiet! I mean delightedly quiet. Now, this doesn't mean that this establishment is not popular. In especially holiday times. We are so fortunate to stay here off-season! We have been coming here to celebrate our anniversary for years. It is uniquely "away" though, ironically, easily accessible to other places of interest and need! We've found a plethora of activities in this amazing area: sight seeing, shoreline hiking, for-hire water excursions and rent-for-a-day bikes, boats, sailing and other ocean/canal equipment, and so much more! Obviously, Wrightsville Beach is ON THE ATLANTIC OCEAN! BEACH SPORTS and equipment are rental available. (We ecomimically advise you to bring folding chairs and other beach use friendly goodies with you). There are kitchenettes in each unit! Hurray! That said, many different kinds of restaurants surround this area for every pocketbook (yea!) and the town of Wilmington itself is tourist friendly and is certainly not far away. Oh. Back to the Resort! EVERY ROOM FACES THE OCEAN! I think it's amazing other hotels have not thought of this magical formula to get more guests! No matter your budget, no matter the floor you are on, you will face the Atlantic Ocean. In the morning, you will see the sunrise in all its glory from each room! Now ... how good is THAT? The resort has a an exercise room; a hot tub (outside) huge outdoor swimming pool and a covered heated pool inside. And !!! It has a small, satisfying restaurant in hours. Yes, there is a bar as well. Guess you may surmise, from our joy coming here all these years in a row, SHELL ISLAND RESORT is its own welcoming 'home'! If you've read other reviews, you will know that a few others have not been as excited as we have in our years visiting here. It should be noted the Suites have been thoroughly updated and not 'old' or 'filthy' as mentioned in earlier reviews! That said, there's never been a unit that we have rented here that hasn't been exceptional or at the least more than adequate . Our multiple experiences here gives us the experiential intuition that whatever might be lacking in an individual unit - for any reason - the management wouldn't be easily accessible and professionally prepared to address any issues!

Our sleeping room, work area, kitchen, and bathroom were spacious. The shower, WIFI, and AC worked great. The included breakfast was very good, and we enjoyed it on all 3 days of our stay. We do have some improvement opportunities, and the first is a safety issue. In room 120, there were two metal bars protruding out from under the bed that were covered up by a brown bed skirt. On the bathroom side of the bed is a narrow space where you access the bath area. I walked too close to the bed, and a metal bar hit my left shin and caused a bleeding cut. The metal bar was wrapped in black electrician tape, so obviously, the hotel is aware of the hazard, but that tape job did not prevent my injury. We witnessed two occasions where employees were complaining loudly to each other about boss/workplace issues. At my old job, we had a phrase we used -"Onstage/offstage". It meant be careful what you say when you are around the public, and don't behave unprofessionally around your customers. The staff can use some customer skills because half the time we walked by the registration desk, the person on duty never looked at us, acknowledged our presence, and never looked up from their phones.
