Do not go here for alterations. I had a simple alteration that they said they could do in a week. I then had to come back when I thought I was picking up and they altered it differently you than we discussed. They have ruined my skirt and charged me $55. read more

This place is soo fast and cheap. It's hard to beat for men's dress shirts. I think $1.25 a piece and a one day turnaround.Also the owners are very friendly. No complaints here. HOWEVER. They've now lost two of my wife's dresses and the resolution is "you need to look more in your closet". So, be weary of bringing anything really nice here or be very careful when picking up your items... which can be hard to do if you're picking up a bunch. read more

So, Tops is our current dry cleaner of choice. We usually stick with a dry cleaner until they commit a royal screw-up and then it's adios. We've been going to tops for about 3 years now, and so far, nothing major. They could do a better job spotting the collars of men's dress shirts. They've done an adequate, but somewhat expensive, job on a few minor clothing repairs. Their same day service is usually on time and their normal service time is almost never longer than 2 days. I wouldn't call their Wednesday 4 for the price of 3 offer on dry-cleaning a "bargain," but at least you can save a few shekels. So, it's Tops for now. We have patronized Tops for 7 years (actually my wife much longer than that). They are super reliable. Now and then I have had repairs/alterations done there on fine clothes and Tops got it done at reasonable prices. A $500 suit got a burn hole on the shoulder at a party. Unbearable. Horrible! They lost my belt (which was attached to a dress that I was having drycleaned). My husband used to be a customer at Tops for many years, since he used to live in Ballston and still continued to go to this place even after we moved in together across the city. But he's never going to go again after they lost my belt and exhibited some very terrible customer service. My husband took my dress (with the belt attached) and some of his professional shirts to Tops for dry cleaning. When I got the dress back, there was no belt. I called them and they started telling me the dress never had a belt, which was a blatant lie because my husband specifically told them to take care of the belt when he handed the dress to them and I've never worn the dress without the belt (it's attached). They then told me they would search their store and call me back to let me know either way, whether they found my belt or not. I never got a call back. When I called them to follow up, they told me they were still searching and would let me know. They never called me back and this happened a week before my wedding, so I was too busy to follow up again. They never offered any apology or offer of compensation. They blatantly lied. And this was one of my favorite dresses and favorite belts (which I've had for years), so I was and still am disappointed. Never again. This place is awful and service is terrible. I would recommend everyone to avoid it. And they lost my husband as their loyal customer. I'm surprised places like this remain in business. read more

Shirts frequently come back covered in starch stains or just flat-out dirty; they boast same day service but you have to plead for anything better than 2-3 days if you have more than 7-8 shirts; the use perm. markers to write on your shirt tails; and dispite all that, I keep getting strangers' clothes in my orders! read more

If you are looking to get ripped off, then head right to Tops. I've been going to this place for 4 years now or so, and throughout the years I've noticed my shirts have been returned damaged or ripped. Typically the damage occurs around the elbow, so I would write it off as normal wear and tear. 2 weeks ago, I picked up my traditional dry cleaning and noticed they were so kind as to seperate my $300 Ralph Lauren Purple Label dress shirt and stated that it was dropped off damaged. I took a closer look at the damage and notice 4 large tears on the front of the shirt. I responded that this was not possible and I dropped it off perfect to them. They insisted I was wrong and told me to call the manager if i wasn't happy. I called the manager "KJ" and he essentially denied all responsibility and told me to get a lawyer and take him to court if I wanted to "take this to the next step". I'm debating legal action against Tops for the Purple label shirt and the 5 Brooks Brothers dress shirts that were destroyed over the last 2 years as well. The damage to the Purple label shirt was so obviously their fault, the tears were on the front left of the shirt around my stomach area, so short of me being stabbed multiple times in the stomach area, there is no possible way that they didn't damge this shirt. I feel like this place accepts zero responsibility for the damage they cause and it's essentially like paying them money to destroy your clothes. Stay away from this place at all costs. read more

Took a few suits & a red sweater there about a month and a half ago. Somehow the red sweater magically disappeared. ($99 wool knit sweater from Anthropolgie.) Giving this dry cleaner a one star rating is being generous. Over the past two months I have had to bring back at least 5 pieces of clothing that were clearly not cleaned. I am referring to dresses that went in with a coffee stain or deordorant mark that came right back to me in the same state. The last straw was a black Banana Republic sweater that came back with not one, not two, but SIXTEEN holes in it!! They claimed they had no idea how it happened, but I remain disgusted that they ruined a new sweater and then showed little dismay or care when I brought it back to them. They then kept the sweater for two weeks promising they could somehow fix it. Well, surprise -- today after getting it back it's in the exact same hokey condition it was in before. Please - spare yourself the headache and chose ANY other dry cleaner within a 5 mile radius. read more

I recently took a server job at a high profile restaurant in Ballston. I live around the corner from Tops and decided to use them. We had a good and dependable relationship for months. Until... I came to pick up my clothes and they told that a pair of my pants was not ready. In my line of service you tend to depend on looking professional. Was told that they would be ready by Saturday. Well I went to pick them up and guess what ...no pants. In fact they were sure I picked them up. So thinking I lost my mind and looked for said trousers ...no trousers. I would give them 0 stars if I could. I've never used Tops before, but we were in a pinch and needed a bunch of things laundered. I took 50lbs of clothes, towels and sheets and left instructions for them to launder and fold everything. They agreed and we settled on a price of $2.00 per pound. A day later, Tops called and pointed out there were a few articles that needed to be dry cleaned. My husband instructed them to dry clean the articles that were labeled as dry clean only and launder and fold everything else. Two days later, Tops offered to deliver all of our cleaned clothes for free. Upon delivery they presented me with a bill for $1300. I was extremely confused at how they arrived at this number--they then lowered the price to $1000. I was still confused as to how a laundry job that should have cost $100, plus perhaps $100 more for the dry cleaning of a few select items could approach $1000. Upon examining the delivery, I realized that rather than dry cleaning the few select items labeled as dry clean only, they had dry cleaned EVERYTHING, including underwear, sweat pants, sheets, towels, and jeans. When I pointed out that they had not followed our instructions nor asked my permission to dry clean everything, they continued to insist upon payment and threatened legal action if I refused to pay the full price. After I mentioned being a member of an Arlington moms listserv and after my husband identifying himself as a lawyer, pointing out the weakness of their position and asking to speak to their legal representative, they accepted our offer of $350. I still feel we grossly overpaid for the work they agreed to perform. And during the back and forth with them, they repeatedly changed their story as to how they justified what they did. At the conclusion of all of this, Top Cleaners informed us they mixed up other people's clothing into our delivery and were looking for 12 pieces of clothing, 4 of which we had and returned to them. I have been going to Tops for the last two years since I moved. Yesterday I would have given them three stars but my experience today changed that. I returned today with a pair of pants they cleaned. When I put them on this morning I found two holes, one on each side of the front both at the same height, which were not there before they cleaned them. When I brought them in they admitted that they would not have cleaned them if the holes were there but that it was likely due to the material and that I should take them back to where I bought them. For humors sake I will take them back to Armani Exchange and see what they say. Given the holes appeared in the short time between dropping them off for cleaning and putting them on this morning AND they are parallel not randomly placed it seems clear to me it came during their handling. I ruined pair of $200 pants is cause enough for me to walk away from this place. Prior to today I was reasonably happy with their work. Occasionally things would come back with starch spots or other stains still on them but it was always resolved on the second try. Their cleaning wasn't as rough as Dry Clean Pro on Glebe which put more wear on my dress shirts than I did so I thought having to drive back to them to fix an error every couple weeks was ok. Now I need to find someone new. read more

They do an overall good job but they do need to clean shirts a little bit better. I find the collars need an extra shot of Shout sometimes. I still use them they're my go to dry cleaners just for ease of pick-up and drop-off. read more

When I first moved to Arlington many years ago I used Tops. I had forgotten why I stopped using them. I have just been reminded how terrible they are. Not only do they damage your clothing (in this case a pair of slacks I had worn once) they lie about it. They should be ashamed. read more

Stay away from this place! You probably heard this before but the last few days they have been lying to me and making me run around only to tell me a different lie every time I get there. They charge an arm and a leg and the service is abysmal to say the least. We have been going to Tops for 30 years. Inez is fabulous and provides awesome customer service. However, the place had been under new management over the past year or two. The quality has gone down and the new owners are rude!! We've had several minor bad experiences. The last straw was that we dropped off a few items last week. We picked them up Saturday night and were charged $15 by credit card. The receipt was correct as was the original charge slip. However, we looked at our online statement a couple of days later and they had changed the amount to $65. We went back in and questioned this and they blamed Inez - who wasn't even there Saturday night when we picked up our clothes and when the charge was posted. Initially they kept saying they'd look into it and call us back. We refused to leave and they finally gave us our money back. We won't be going back. We'll miss you Inez!!! read more

I've had to bring a shirt back for multiple cleanings after they continually left stains. It is still dirty. I will not be returning.

They do an OK job on shirts, but boy did they screw up on my suit. And customer service response to BBB was zero. On 9/21/2011 I dropped off my two piece suit for dry cleaning. On 9/26/2011 I picked up the suit. It was packed on a hanger and in the plastic bag.On 10/5/2011 I wore the suit to work. That morning I unpacked the suit out of the bag and wore it to work. That afternoon I noticed a triangular damage - holes on the front right side of the suit. The holes looked in the triangular shape (symmetrical) and it looked as if they were burned by the iron.On 10/6/2011 I dropped off the suit for owner to evaluate the damage. At that time I requested evaluation since I thought it was burned. I was immediately told by the front desk staff that the damage was due to moths, but I was also promised a review by the owner.The next day I got a call from TOPS CLEANERS stating that the damage is indeed by moth and that they would not assume responsibility. That evening I went to pickup the suit and had another conversation with the front desk staff. He called in other team members to evaluate the damage and noted again that it was moth damage. I was suspicious and told them that I would take the articles to another dry cleaners to inspection. As I stood there for 15 minutes while the clerks were examining the suit in front of me a moth flew out of the area where they were standing and one of the clerks quickly killed it. I went to another dry cleaner's and they confirmed that the damage was indeed done by moth. Upon return home I examined all my suits for damage and inspected the closet. None of the other suits have holes / moth damage. I conclude that the damage was done by moths while the suit was on the premises:1. The suit was in good condition without holes prior to going to the cleaners 2. The suit was on premise for 6 days. 3. There is no damage to my other suits in my closet and no signs of moths. 4. I saw a moth fly around my suit while I was in the TOPS CLEANERS facility (it was killed by employee) 5. TOP CLEANERS keep the front doors wide open that allows bugs to get into the building. Needless to say I can't recommend their service or business practices of persistently ignoring BBB (prior to this post). read more

We've been going to Tops for several years. My husband gets all his shirts done there in addition to our regular dry cleaning. I was surprised to see all the negative reviews but I guess someone wouldn't bother to review a dry cleaner unless they had a bad experience. So I'm writing a review to say we've never had a problem. A couple of times a shirt has come back with a missing or broken button but other than that it's all been good. Plus everyone who works there is so nice and friendly. I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars because sometimes the price they've charged us for dry cleaning has been a little high. read more

I was overall pleased with the customer service and the speed I got all my dry cleaning done. they answered all the questions i had about my dresses and other garments. And it came back very neatly. Despite the poor reviews for Tops Cleaners I decided to give this place a shot because it is so close to my apartment. I brought about eight shirts and 3 pairs of pants to be cleaned at once. When I got one of the shirts back I noticed a number of stains were still present. I returned to the cleaners a couple days later and asked about the stains. The woman told me that I have to pay extra to remove the stains. I therefore gave the shirt back and requested the stains be removed. I was given a receipt for $5.95. Shortly after I left town for about four weeks and was unable to get back to Tops to pick up my shirt. At week four I returned for pickup. I gave the woman my receipt, but after searching for a few minutes was told they could not locate the shirt. No big deal, I told her, I would come back in a few days to give them a chance to find it. Long story short I have been back to this place on four separate occasions. Each time they tell me they can't find it and try and convince me I already picked it up. I explained that if I had picked it up before I would have a charge for $5.95 on my credit card statement. They simply dismiss that possibility stating I probably paid in cash (even though I never carry cash with me). I finally accepted the fact that one of my favorite shirts was either lost or given away by Tops. I explained that I was disappointed but would be willing to compromise, asking if I could be given store credit. After trying to convince me that my shirt was probably in my closet at home, the woman helping me agreed to give me a $20 credit. A $20 credit for a shirt that cost $60 and was a favorite piece in the wardrobe...I tried to explain that keeping me as a customer should be more important to them and that the internet allows me to review their service. This fell on deaf ears. As for me, I would rather write this review and never go back to Tops Cleaners than accept their halfhearted offer to clean 5 shirts for free. read more

They lost one dress shirt and six others had brown spots all over them (looked like someone spilled coffee on my clothes and then pressed them). New owners where not forthcoming when issue was addressed. I have moved to another cleaner. Used to be a great place with very nice owners. Now.....not so much. read more

Their customer service is awful now and they are overpriced for the quality of work they do. I've really never hated a business this much. I've been going to Tops for years - but something appears to have changed. Maybe a change in management or at least the staff. Over the years they have served me well. But recently I dropped off a batch of shirts, asking that one of them be spotted. I think it was mayonnaise or oil of some sort near the shirt pocket. The spots were marked with red tape. When I picked up the shirts, I found that the oil stain had not been cleaned and that ink spots were now in the same area around the shirt pocket. The woman made no promises that the stains could be removed but that they would "try". She did not acknowledge that the ink spots were added since I dropped the shirt off. She explained that they don't use ink pens at Tops, then picked up one from the side of the register and showed me an example of an ink pen. I just picked up the shirt today and the stain as well as ink has been removed. But I think I'll be looking for a new cleaners based on some of the other reviews. read more

I've come to Tops for years, and under the old management was more than satisfied. Things went downhill IMMEDIATELY after new management took over. On my very first load they lost a shirt(which never once occurred with the old management), and promised to call me when they found it. Still waiting on that call. Then they began missing deadlines. For one load of ten shirts, I had to come in on three separate occasions to collect them piece by piece, because they were never done when promised. Why they weren't dry cleaned together is beyond me. Finally, last week, they lost another shirt. They told me to come in the next week and check. When I did, they said they hadn't found it, and would call me, which has yet to occur. I now realize that that's their way of getting you off the premises without remediation to the situation. Take caution with the positive reviews of Tops Cleaners, as they are all attributed to the previous management. You can now expect to lose clothes, and waste gas on driving back and forth trying to retrieve clothes that won't be ready when promised. read more
