Have you ever said to yourself this isn't going to work out well. However, you ignore your inner voice and you later regret that and realize you were stupid? This was my experience with Eagle Cleaners.
Everyone was very pleasant with whom I interacted, and I've contemplated if I should warn other potential customers or not.
What soured my experience were the following items:
I send an email (and pictures) requesting an email to get my coat fixed. I followed up a week later, but I did not get a response either time. WARNING ONE. I ignore that and take the coat to the shop.
I ask for a repair estimate. The clerk can't give me an estimate. I ask if anyone can. Silence. I then explain surely you understand I don't want to turn over my coat without knowing how much it will cost. The clerk finds someone else (I assume a manager, the owner, I don't know). He gives me an estimate. I was surprised how low it was. I brighten up and say well based on that I'd be interested in some additional work done on the coat. He says no problem. He will call me once the person who reparis the coat receives it. He will call me with a total price to fix everything. He tells me I will get a call in a week. At first, I was concerned by the hesitancy (WARNING TWO), but I feel better based on this other gentleman's responses by seeming more organized and experienced.
After ten days, I receive no call with the price for all of the repairs, so I call again. Apprently, the repair shop hasn't received the coat yet.
I get a call later in the day telling me the repair shop has the coat. The repairs are now exponentially higher. I say that's too high for the value of the coat. Let's just do the initial repair where I asked for an estimate. He doesn't know how much that is, but I will get a call back. When I get the third call on this matter, the price is now more than double than the original estimate I requested for the single repair item before turning over the coat. I certainly would have gone along with a 20-30% increase but not more than 100% the original estimate - that's completely outside the ball park. I felt like I had wasted my time with this shop and was given bad information. It wasn't even the money. It was more about feeling duped.
I tell them I'm no longer interested based on this huge change in price from the original estimate. The gentleman on the phone explains they never give advance estimates, so I have to tell him that is not correct and have to retell the whole initial experience and that I did get an initial estimate. Of course, this is all irrelevant to him.
I'm told I will get a call back as soon as the coat is returned. I never got a call. I did get my coat back, and it of course didn't cost me anything. However, I wasted a month on this though with no result.
For good points, everyone was polite, and I don't think anyone was being intentionally deceitful. Yet, at the same time, I can't say I can take the staff at their word either. Also, I believe my time was disrespected and not sure if the first low-ball estimate was just to get me to turn the coat over, but the whole experience could have been avoided if they insisted they could not give an advance estimate. This would have irritated me, and I would not have given them the coat. But I wouldn't have wasted a month trying to get the coat fixed with Eagle.
Perhaps Eagle does regular laundry well. The business seems sufficiently busy, so I'm sure they are doing something right.
However, the whole customer communications on the leather repair was botched. My other tip to my fellow consumers is not to send emails based on my two attempts where I did not get a response.
Good luck. If you deal with Eagle I hope it works out better for you than me, but whether it is with Eagle or not, don't ignore you inner voice ;- ) read more
