Toppings too is such a great mom/pop hole in the wall restaurant. It's almost like your favorite tita/tita worked hard in the kitchen all daymaking all your favorite foods. My husband's go to is lechon kawali. Perfectly deep fried pork served with the classic Filipino "all purpose sauce". I usually steal one or two pieces off his plate but the serving is a healthy size I could never finish one by myself. My personal fave is beef sinigang. There's a a generous amount of meat and it's always so tender. I would love if they made it a little more sour but that's my personal preference. The protein might be different depending on the day but they've all been good. The place is tiny, maybe like 10 chairs so you might have to wait at prime times. Service is friendly. A couple times they've told me to pick up to go orders at a certain time but I had to wait an additional 15-20min after arriving but not too big of a deal. read more

Small mom and pop Filipino restaurant tucked away off UC Blvd. We stopped by on a Sunday at noon which was a rookie mistake! The place was poppin and a line was forming despite the rain. We waited about 15 mins to be seated. We ordered while we waited so as soon as we sat down the food was ready, yayyy! They were able to accommodate my 10month old and the high chair was perfect for his size. The place is super tiny so they don't allow strollers inside, and there's also no restroom. Now onto the food. The tosilog was sooo good! The meat was seasoned and grilled perfectly. The java rice is okay, I wish they have garlic rice as an option. Hubby got the longanisa and it was good too. Portions are huge. Service was good even though they had a full house. They're not on DoorDash which is a bummer. One of my fave Filipino joints in the Bay simply because of how unassuming it is while pumping out high quality, delicious food. Parking situation is kinda crappy and the space inside is stuffy and cramped compared to their Toppings Tree location. Also if you need to use the restroom it is outside around a backyard type thing that they share with their neighbor store, a coffee spot. As for the food, our go-tos are the calimari which is super crispy and meaty, the sizzling plate lunchs with java rice and gravy that is incredibly savory (I like to get either bbq chicken or bbq pork chops and they give a big portion size), the bangus (milkfish), the liempo (pork belly) and the tocino (sweet marinated pork). I have not been here in a few years and wanted to get my kids in to have some good Filipino food. You can't go wrong with the Tosilog and Java rice. Another favor for me is the beef with scrambled eggs and oyster sauce over rice. If you're looking for something hard, and extremely filling in flavorful, they have a New York strip steak with chicken and gravy. That is absolutely amazing. Lumpia is really good as well. My daughter threw a curveball and got the bistek. It wasn't like any that I've had before that was home cooked. The meat was extremely tender and flavorful. The serving was really large and it was enough for two people. My other daughter got the pancit (thin noodle) and we've been eating it and snacking on it for two days now because the serving was so huge. The location is small so it doesn't fit large parties. We had to order to go and eat at the park across the street even though we called ahead and made reservations for 5 people. The fried hamhock and lechon were well fried. The meat wasn't dry which can be a problem frying meats. All the food could use a sprinkle of salt. Prices are reasonable. We went to try this place yesterday for the first time and the place did not disappoint with regards to taste, portion. Just a tad pricey (just like most restaurants), but they do provide excellent service. Place is very small, but, even if you have to wait to be seated, they actually take your order in advance (we ordered fishballs, rice plate adobo, rice plate dinuguan, rice plate beef tapa & miki bihon) so when you're seated, you dont have to wait long for your food. Highly recommended over Timog in Newark, which is over priced, mediocre (bland) taste in all their food and service is not good at all.... Sorry..we're not able to take any pictures! read more

This Filipino restaurant has been here for ages! How long has it been? I have been going here for many years, a couple times a year. Hippies brew used to be close by but was now replaced with Macs by Icky. There is street parking and a small public parking area next to it. The restaurant is small so this place can fill up quick. Usually people like to call-in orders for pick-up. It's difficult to rate this place because things can be inconsistent. First to mention, they have a "Not Available" list on a white board that they will mention to you right when you sit down. I have gone here for lunch and for dinner and there is always something on that white board. I feel like I might see NY Steak on it consistently. Luckily we usually order the same thing all the time and its never in that list. Another thing is, space can feel claustrophobic. They tried adding as many tables and chairs they can that it is a bit difficult to move sometimes. This also means noise level can be high on a full house. Staff and service is quick so wait times aren't long. We always get the sizzling plates with java rice. I have tried other things but I usually go back here for these items. Delicious juicy pork/chicken, nice char from the grill, and a nice brown gravy accompanied with some java rice. The serving is big so we never end up getting any sides/appetizers.
