This might be a me problem, but it stuck with me and I think others should be aware since we were not. I booked online, used my debit card. We get there, there's a QR to scan and order drinks and food-so we do that. Host ends up coming over eventually and we order some stuff from her...didn't think much of it as she called herself a host, not a server or waitress (others ran the food and drinks to our table)...I had planned to leave her some cash as a tip (since i thought I paid for everything as I'm ordering it). Go to leave and I get stopped and asked if I paid online. I said I believe so, my cards on there...was told they would get a manager, manager said they don't see it paid on their end and asked me to prove it with bank statements...it was kind of embarrassing to be honest. People were starring and I was made to feel like I was going to walk out on the bill-which I absolutely had no intention of...I had no idea I had to present a card while there, no one explained that. We basically did everything ourselves online (ordering, reserving the bay, check in). I really don't enjoy confrontation, so even if someone just asked me for a card I would have handed it over without blinking, but no one did. It went straight to the manager and I felt like I was in trouble. Also-couldn't this have been taken care of before I even tried to leave? Always a fun outing even when it's cold out. The heaters made it very tolerable in the winter. They have nice pricing during week day afternoons. Drinks were good and fairly priced! After a lot of hopeful drives by their property, I am so glad that this new TopGolf location has opened in Des Moines! I've been to TopGolf all over the nation, and it is wonderful to have our own facility here in DSM. They have mastered the build after years of practice, and visitors here will benefit. The parking lot is huge and spaced to allow and easy stroll to the facility. Kind greeters at the info/cashier desk greet you, and the whole experience rocks. Good vibes throughout the building. I appreciated carving out an unexpected 30 minutes in a busy day to hit some balls, and enjoyed the heck out of it. Kate was so nice, and AV was a rock star, finding my stray credit card and bringing it to me. Next time, I will stay longer and eat, but I only had a half-hour and made the most of it! read more

This was a great activity that you can play year round. I have been to Top Golf in other cities and enjoyed it quite a bit. Des Moines location is definitely scaled to the community size. It is clean and the staff are friendly. The menu is vast for drinks or food. We just had a few drinks since I was cooking a large NYE meal when we got home. It was super cool that you could be outside and feel warm enough that is was fun to golf with snow on the ground... The thing that did shock me was we had 3 mixed drinks and the 2 hour minimum for golf and the tab with tip was $175 for 3 ppl. Perhaps I am getting old but this seems a little spendy. All-in-all I would recommend getting the gift cards that offer a discount before you go...it takes a little of the sting out of the cost! read more

I've been wanting to go to this location ever since I saw it being built and it didn't disappoint when I was finally there. We went on a Tuesday for the 1/2 off promo! The food is good and the service is quite fast. We got the buffalo chicken dip and a couple of their drinks, and they tasted great. Since it was a promotion day, it was quite busy. The biggest note was that the music was quite loud, and there wasn't a way to control the volume per bay (or at least it wasn't shown to us), which made it very hard to hear each other and enjoy the company of those present. Love Top Golf and have been to several in other states. While this location is smaller it is nicely done and set up. Friday night and we only had a short wait for a walk up game which was nice. Staff were helpful and friendly and check in was seamless. The gluten free options online did not match the menus in-person but the GF flatbread (Chicken Bacon Ranch) was delicious. I went for a bachelor party and had a great time. The clubs they provide are easy for anyone to use. One of our friends hadn't played in 15 years, but after about 30 minutes, he was hitting the ball almost to the back of the net. The spots for storing your own clubs work well for smaller bags, but my cart bag didn't fit. I also liked that you can buy buckets of beer. Getting started was a bit frustrating for some people because you need an account, but once that was set up, everything was simple and we had a great time. read more

Was super excited to see that Des Moines got a TopGolf and was excited to try it out after being to locations in other cities and loving my experiences. Came here with my family and it was such a great group activity and they can easily accommodate a group! The customer service at the door was great, however when it came to service at our bay, we were slightly disappointed. We ordered pretzel bites and nachos for the table. The pretzel bites were great; however, we were very disappointed with the nachos. We felt as though we did not get our moneys worth as the portion was very small. Also just something to keep in mind, when paying the bill, we noticed that they based the tip off of the game price as well which seems a little misleading. Group paying individually server very quick to ask for credit card before even finishing keying order. Felt odd to say the least. Stopped with my boyfriend on their first official opening day, and it was great! This is a lot smaller than other Topgolfs that we have been to, but those have also been in bigger cities, so we understand. We reserved a bay in advance and we had no wait time. If you haven't been previously it cost $5 for each new player. If you have been to any other topgolf and have already paid the $5 "membership" fee to play, you don't have to pay ever again. Our plan was to order an appetizer and then share a lunch item. However things did not go according to plan. We got 2 appetizers (because we couldn't decide) and they were DELICIOUS. We got the queso blanco and the buffalo chicken dip. We got the queso almost immediately while the buffalo chicken dip took about 5-10 minutes. Both were delicious and yummy and plentiful. One is adequate for 3, MAYBE 4 people. Since we got two apps we brought home leftovers, yum! We got a Starry to drink (Sprite is superior) it was okay. We also got a strawberry lemonade (non-alcoholic) and it was yummy!! We ordered a blueberry lemon drop martini which was also yummy, but oof was it strong! No worries, we used the strawberry lemonade as a chaser ;) We played for 2 hours which was perfect for 2 people. I think it would also be good for 3, maybe 4. But anything over you might need an extra hour or two. They had fans (heaters for the winter) and you were able to put something on the TV (without sound) but really we didn't even end up watching it. Overall we spent a little over $100 for everything: game, food and drinks--not including tip. But to us it was worth it! Topgolf is great whether you're a beginner or seasoned golfer. They have a variety of different games you can play. Some games we played were the OG Topgolf game, an Angry Birds game; you "hit" the bocks and birds to know them down and get points, also a block party game; this one is perfect for all skill level because you always get points not matter what! We played a few more which I can't remember the names of. You can take your own clubs or use what they have--free of charge! Overall I loved this experience!!! The staff working the floor was incredibly sweet and helpful. No issues with them. However - the manager on duty refused meal breaks, and reminded an employee that "I am not obligated to allow you any breaks." That kid was 18 and working a double shift.. I asked another manager if this is normal behavior and was told that the team is offered food in the back but refused to answer my question about rest breaks. Iowa law clearly states that workers are entitled to a lunch break and a ten minute rest break. I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed with this establishment. Your staff is majority young people and I can't help but feel you're taking advantage and breaking multiple labor laws in the process. I will be reporting to proper authorities as well. My waitress seemed like she was going to faint at one point and I was horrified when she wasn't allowed to rest. Sickening management. read more

Topgolf is fun!! We love it and have visited multiple times in multiple cities. (Dallas, KC, Jacksonville, Brooklyn Center). We received a gift card for Christmas and were trying to make reservations for a party of 8 (2 bays). If we show up at 130 on a Sunday and get 2 bays, it's $47/bay/hour or $188 total. If we try and make a reservation online it's $57/bay/hour or $228 total. Which I completely understand. It's a "convenience fee" for a reservation. There should be! Here's the rub... There's an additional $40 convenience fee to book online. If we just show up it's $188, if we make reservations online it's $268. I called last week and was told that "that's just how it is". We will use the gift card this weekend to go and eat if they aren't able to get us in without a reservation and we won't be back. There are plenty of other golf experiences in Des Moines that we enjoy as much as TopGolf without all the hidden fees. read more

Food was great, atmosphere was great, and we had a ton of fun. However at the very end when we went to pay, It was an absolute nightmare. We had a group of 12 (6 couples) using 2 bays. The waitress informed us she couldn't split up the game play so each couple would have their own food and play time on separate checks. But when we got the bills everyone had their own food bills and she put the play time on 4 of the checks randomly..... so you are able to split it? We were all super confused. We were also charged more than what we were quoted on the phone for the game play when we called and reserved the 2 bays. On top of this one of the game systems wouldn't let us add players to the game without making new member profiles even though some of us were already lifetime members. This became an issue with the billing as well, and created a lot of confusion. All in all we had fun, and enjoyed it until the end when we had to pay. We payed WAY more than we should have and the bills were an absolute mess. Not sure if we will be back for awhile. At least not until they figure out their Billing system! We also tried to add 30 minutes of play time on at then end before all of this happened, and we were told we couldn't because there was a group immediately behind us. The entire payment thing took over a half an hour from start to finish and there was never a group behind us. We feel pretty generous leaving a 3 star review.
