Attended an event for the Iowa Wild held at this location and I was thoroughly expressed with the establishment with the cleanliness the food was amazing along with our server Kay. Which was probably one of the best I have encountered lately. Her knowledge of the food and attention to detail was way beyond expectations. I've never been to a bowling alley that had laser tag! First time ever playing a game of bowling and laser tag. It was fun. The taco bar unfortunately never got refilled so that was a bummer. We went out here to try and have some fun for a friends birthday. The parking lot was packed. This was a Saturday night. We saw online before we even headed that direction that the lines were full. Cant seem to go anywhere anymore that you can just show up and enjoy something. They have online reservations for bowling. We were able to put in our names but it was going to be around 10pm before we could bowl. Since we just arrived about 7 we had some time to kill. The birthday boy went to the "bar". It seems they would rather have you sit down and order and be served than just get up to the bar and enjoy a drink. The younger kids headed to the archade area. I was interested in playing a couple games to kill the time, but holy cow! You have to purchase a card to use at the machines. There is a fee for the card and then the game prices are the highest Ive seen. Really over the top fancy games and games to win prizes and such. There were a lot of "out of order" signs on games. Disappointing. From the arcade area you can see the bowling lanes and yes there is a place to order drinks while you bowl, however we were still waiting. You can try and get inline for lazer tag. You could see if an escape room option is open. i Everything just seemed overpriced. Even the bowling was some of the highest priced bowling I have seen in town. I made a request late in the week to try to work our party in. The GM was very friendly and accommodating. When we got there everything was good to go, the servers were attentive and very friendly as well. They even personalized the monitors to congratulate the newlyweds we were there celebrating. I should have written this back in December! The large company I work for is just down the street from Spare Time and I decided to see if they could accommodate a department year-end celebration. Bowling, pizza, salad, pop for 118 people for 2 hours. I worked with Kylie Sebert and Brea McNeil and they did a great job!! The food, service, vibe, was great! No issues with getting shoes, having lunch, and having a blast bowling. Never been here before. Was excited to try out the happy hour. I met a friend. She had been sitting at the bar about 5 minutes when I arrived. There was one gentleman at the bar finishing up his drink. No employees. Menues were spread across the bar. We sat there for about 6 min more (so my friend has been there 10-12 now) and employees came out of the back area. She looked at us, did not acknowledge us. Went to the printer. She then went back in the back and came back out with gloves and proceeded to put them on. She glanced at us again and never acknowledged us. After 15 minutes and Noone acknowledging us we left. Spare Time is truly what Des Moines and it's suburbs was missing. This location provides an array of options for family friendly fun suitable for a kids birthday party or a dad looking to watch the Hawkeyes game with a beer. Spare time offers a bowling alley, arcade, escape rooms and laser tag. The service was great and present through the evening. I didn't need to look more than a few seconds to locate any employee. As it ranks, the arcade is reasonably priced compared to most averaging $1.50 per game. Game cards are reloadable and tickets are collected via the card as well which makes keeping track for future visits super easy. Bowling at Spare Time is great. The lanes are high tech with sensors that relocate pins and refund balls quicker than traditional lanes. There are also lots of fame styles available at the lanes. Shoes and balls were clean. and seating area is comfortable and spacious. Bowling at Spare Time is quite expensive compared to most alleys in the area, starting at $60 for 1.5 hours not including shoe rental. I paid $80 for three people for 1.5 hours. Nonetheless for the comfort and experience it was worth the cost. Will update review further as I experience more of what Spare Time has to offer. read more

We have been to Spare Time 3 times in the past, and have always been happy with our experience. Tonight, we went to celebrate our son's birthday and decided to have a few family members come to eat, play some games, and do laser tag. It was a big mistake and we will probably not come back due to the issues we had tonight. DINING- We had to ask for drinks to be refilled multiple times. I had to ask for my son's order. Our appetizer didn't come out until we were almost finished eating and then I had to ask for warm cheese for the appetizer because the cheese dip was cold and hard to dunk our pretzel. All but 1 of our party enjoyed the food itself, reporting that it was very good. The 1 ordered a sharable appetizer and reported that the chicken was cold and soggy on the chicken nachos. ARCADE- There were quite a few machines down and we lost some of our money due to games that weren't working properly, but weren't shut down yet. We couldn't find employees to help us problem-solve the issues so we wasted at least $5. LASER TAG- 3 people in our party paid for laser tag and were told that the session would begin at 8:30. 8:30 came and went. An employee was talking with some friends at the counter between 8:30-8:45. Finally at 8:45, a very nice employee called the 8:45 time slot and we were finally addressed. She asked a few details about how we paid and who helped us arrange the 8:30 time slot. She graciously let us into the 8:45 time slot and then gave each of the 3 members of our party a $5 credit. This was by far the best experience of customer service all evening. read more

I had a birthday party there and spent $120 for game cards for the kiddos that each had $10, lol which was an "upgrade" from the $5 cards That came with the party. Caveat is that one game costs $4. so not the most effective way to spend your money. The hosts sat and watched me serve pizza, drinks and cleaned up. I was constantly having to ask what was next and we didn't even have time to open presents. The kids were let down they could play only 2 games with their cards and some were crying lol Nothing about this was easy and was one of the most unorganized birthday parties and the most expensive we've had - parents RUN and go to pump it up or get air. We did a variety of activities here and it's fun but very expensive. The bowling is a great deal, you get a good amount of time and kids bowl free in the summer. The laser tag was really fun but the arcade games are $1.50-$2 a game, and a lot of the games are either broke or are only 30 seconds of entertainment. I'd skip the food: we saw the workers eating off of the food they were making and we're not washing their hands. read more

When the place first opened we bought a $100 card at half off and the games still felt expensive for how long you get to play them. Now that they're full price the arcade is prohibitively expensive. Games that take 30 seconds to play cost $2. We came on a Thursday night and the arcade was mostly empty. Apparently nobody else wants to pay these prices either. The food is so hit or miss. It's too expensive to just roll the dice and hope you get a good meal. We have visited many times. This time, two of us ordered salad and I requested the dressing on the side (which I do everywhere I order a salad). I was told they were unable to serve a Caesar Salad without dressing as they premix all of their salads. Oh okay. This place has a lot of cool stuff that makes it ideal for a kids bday party but I wouldn't recommend it as a place for actual bowling. I took some clients here when it first opened. The staff was super friendly and the food was good however it was pretty surprising when we went to bowl and the pins had strings attached. Then the scoring was always off and pins would show either down when they weren't or up when they weren't. I'm giving it 3 stars because I think it would be a fun time for kids just not adults who want to bowl. read more

Went on a Wednesday to get the bowling deal that they had. First timers ever coming to Spare Time. When talking to the front person, we had talked about starting at an hour and adding more depending how we're feeling (ofc thinking about the deal). Assumed that we would automatically get the Wednesday bowling deal. Why would we come on a Wednesday and not get the deal? Wouldn't you think that the deal would just be automatic or that they would mention it to you at the counter? They don't. Went back up to talk to the person and they said that we had to tell them that we wanted the deal up front and that they couldn't change it or add the difference to anything for us which seems unfair especially because they even plaster the deal on their tv ads. Paid $62/63 when we could've had a deal! Wouldn't you think first time evers would love a deal and hearing so would make us want to come back more? Would highly Not recommend. The staff seemed confused about everything. The ones that actually spoke to us without rushing away. Very unorganized. Calling ahead they said their were no reservations over the phone or online. But had r served seating. The kids waited well over an hour to play Lazer tag and still wasn't able to play. The escape room was completely booked. The kids left with frowns on their faces on their birthday. You cannot use cash! If you do you're taxed an extra 6$ per $20. The energy was dry and the music is out dated. If you do want a refund it'll take at least 3 business days. Just go to Game day! At least the servers speak to the customers!
