The Hall has new owners. It has been a terrible decline in service and food. We have been playing trivia here for a couple of years. Tonight we ordered tots and a margarita pizza. The tots were 1/5th the size of the old orders. They charged us $3 to put cheese on the Margarita Pizza. (To be clear, mozzarella IS indeed one of the 4 parts of that pizza, Crust, sauce, cheese, basil.) Our order for two items came to $ 30+. This would be ok if the portions were huge or the quality amazing. Neither quality was present. We will not be back!!! read more

Been here several times for a fun time with friends. Went for a few basketball games and a couple trivia nights. It's a beer hall so if you're aware what a German Beer Hall/Garden is like it has those vibes with huge TVs. The ordering system is phenomenal. I love being able to scan a QR code at the table and order from my phone. Being a millennial the less human interaction I have to make the better. They'll just get your drinks right to your table but for the food, you would have to pick it up at the pick up counter. I really wish more establishments would adopt this process. The only reason why I'm knocking down stars is basically the food... I haven't been impressed with anything I have ordered and my friends also said the same thing. Everything just seems bland and require extra condiments or sauce. They offer good menu items but I just wish there was more care in implementing them. Most recent, I had a tenderloin that I was excited about and as traditional as we see in Iowa the tenderloin was massive but I had to just smother the entire thing with mustard to have any taste. We have been wanting to stop here for months following several recommendations and finally got our chance last night. First off, you have to be ok with the open table seating common in many German bier halls and restaurants (long tables with benches that multiple parties share). Secondly you order food from the QR code that is stamped on your table and then go up to the counter to pick it up once it's ready. Lastly and even though the bartender didn't suggest this, rather than wait for all the beers to scroll through on the monitors above the bar you can log into Untappd and locate The Hall under venues to see the full list. We started with several beers (great selection, but pricey given that many come in 10oz glasses) and an order of Fried Brussel Sprouts (see picture). The Brussel Sprouts and the aeoli we're delicious and I highly recommend them when you go. For my meal, I ordered the Red Lager Brat with pretzel bun and a separate side order of sauer kraut (see pictures). As my last name would indicate I have a lot of German heritage and I loved both the sausage and the sauerkraut. My wife ordered the Chicken Schnitzel with Curry Fries (see picture) and we both really enjoyed them also. The chicken was very moist and the curry ketchup on the fries wasn't overpowering. The only real negative that we experienced was when we ordered a mixed drink before leaving. My wife wanted a Paloma and while they couldn't make that they said they could make a margarita. The margarita came in a standard 16 oz beer glass, had a mushy brown and yellow lime wedge on the edge and my wife really disliked the flavor...thinking that something was missing. Needless to say I would not recommend ordering a margarita here - go for the beer selection and German food. Fun place to hang out with a large group! The only draw back is the volume when it is full. But you should expect it in a place that is called the HALL, right? They have a lot of craft beer on tap and they serve mixed drinks and have food trucks daily on site... It was a very creative way to revive a old abandoned building that is for sure! Went here with a group of friends from work. Interesting concept but not enough signage. You order food from a kiosk and they bring it to the counter and you receive a text when it's ready. Again, interesting concept. I ordered a 12 inch pizza and it was honestly really good. Since I don't live in the area I I won't be going back. If I did live in the area it wouldn't be a place I would choose but if invited to a gathering would most likely go. They could really use more signage on the outside as well, that's why only 3 stars. read more

My experience stems from trivia night, so please keep that in mind as you parse through my review... I wish they had more direction. There's no servers to speak of; you use the QR code on the table to place all your orders. That's fine on a normal night, but during an event you're not supposed to have a phone out, it makes things quite difficult. I placed an order for some food and I was unaware it was ready until I happened to check my phone after a round had been completed. My order had been ready for 15+ minutes--you have to retrieve it yourself. Beers are brought to your table, but the staff running them never interacted and at times we didn't know whose order was whose. They were supposed to bring a chit with the beer so you could tell, but this didn't always happen. The beer selection itself is very nice. Many local beers and many of those selections expanded beyond the basics. My chicken schnitzel was still fairly good fifteen minutes after the fact. The German potatoes were not. Some resembled potato chips. Others represented a fried potato. The house sauerkraut was delicious--nice blend of apple and vinegar accents. Plenty of caraway seed if that's your thing. They do charge the dreaded credit card "service fee" which is technically illegal when a debit card is swiped. This place is like self-serve to the max. I order and do everything online. It kind of defeats the purpose of going out, unless you plan on tipping the bare minimum. You order your beer on your phone with no interaction from anyone, and the same with the food. Maybe that's the model, but it seems like the wrong one if you're going out to be served. I want to have someone give me some recommendations or something. The food we ordered was greasy and the beers were expensive especially with such little interaction. We stopped here after dinner on Saturday 12/23/23 for some drinks. We arrived around 8:15pm, sat down and ordered drinks. We hadn't finished our first drink before it was announced that it was last call at 8:45. We ordered one more round assuming we could stay and finish our drinks. At 9:10 we were told we had 5 minutes to finish our drinks. When I asked why they were closing when Google says they are open till 11:00pm we were told it was because it was a holiday...which I'm sorry but no 12/23 is not a holiday. Great venue! Visited for The Egg King brunch and it did not disappoint. Easy to order, plenty of tables to seat yourself, and plenty of big screens to watch the games. Had the fuzzy morning drink and it was Amazing. Noticed families there with kids, couples, groups of friends and even those old enough to be my grandparents. This place is for everybody! This is the 2nd time trying this place. The first time was less than impressive. I wanted some Bahn Me and this was the only way to get it. The place is pretty good size. Unless you've been here before you have no clue what to do. You sit down at any giant "picnic table" and a waitress will come and ask what you like to drink. You have to download their app to order your food. I have older parents, they wouldn't know the first thing about this so it deff caters to younger, middle age crowd. You order and wait for your name to pop up on the big screen so you can walk up and pick up your food. They have large TVs and it can get loud. As always I was impressed with my Bahn Me. Their meat is always tender and I love how they fire their shells. We also ordered shrimp tacos and they were delish! The shrimp was super tender, not over cooked and full of a Spicy flavor! First time going to The Hall post-COVID because we were looking for somewhere with a large patio. The parking lot, and patio, were empty on a Saturday early afternoon. We should have taken that as a sign... There are QR codes at the table to view the menu and order. The ordering app is clunky, at best, and is a pain to use. I understand they likely were looking for a COVID friendly option, but the app is pure junk. It's much easier to order at one of the two kiosks available. There was only one employee working, who was the bartender, so it was full self-service. He was doing a good job keeping up, but the bar was also mostly empty. Food was good and came out quick, but the ordering hassle almost made us skip eating. I asked for the U.S. Open to be displayed on one of the TVs and was informed that they don't get local channels. So if you're planning to go to The Hall to watch any major, or local, sporting event they won't be available. How does a huge bar not have the ability to air sports on local channels?! This was overall a lackluster visit, and will definitely be our last. read more

Don't get me wrong here. The Hall is still a great spot to sample beer. I also know that it's tough keeping good beers in stock. However my last time here was not good. It's almost Oktoberfest season so I ordered a German Pilsner. At the beginning of my pour the keg ran out. Without even asking the bartender went for a Hefeweizen. He then proceeded to mix it with the Pilsner. I'm sure you are shocked at reading this. I was shocked to witness this. Granted the venue was busy and understaffed. I still expected better. To not cause a scene and to keep the line at the bar moving I declined to point out the problem. My advice is to keep an eye on the bartender or suffer a mixed portion beer. Went in on a beautiful Saturday for lunch. we were looking for a patio. The patio faces North and they have shades up so there wasn't a lot of sun, but nice nonetheless. This is a place that you come in, sit down and order on the app. You can order at the bar and they have tablets you can order off of. Then when your food is ready, you go grab it. the staff was friendly and polite. The bartenders were helpful and will make suggestions. you can try samples as well. they have around 70 items on tap. several ciders, which is important to me. I tried cherry fandango....so good. There were 4 food trucks there. my husband ordered the porker pizza from 515Pi and I got a chicken sandwich and onion rings from FoodWorks. the onion rings were phenomenal. If you're ready to get out but concerned about social interaction this is a good place to go. limited interaction with staff. We were there for almost two hours and no one sat in the dining room, everyone was on the patio. Masks were not required for staff or guests. Bathrooms were clean and have real paper towels. Parking is mostly on the Southside of the building. it's a noisy environment if the inside is full. Stop in and enjoy a brew, they'll have something that you like. Three of us met mid/late afternoon for drinks on a beautiful day on the patio. We ordered our first drinks at the bar since the servers weren't going to start until 4:30. That went well with the bartender explaining how things work and crafting our drinks well. The bar menu shows wine, beer and a limited number of other libations but a fairly full bar menu is available. We happened to be there on Tuesday, which is Tito's Tuesday, where drinks with Tito's are $1 off. I'd have gone with Tito's anyway, but that made it a good deal. I missed any promotion of that deal, but it showed up on our receipt as a discount. Once the servers arrived, one showed up at our table and took our orders - all good and we continued to enjoy our talk and beverages. When it came time for the next round, the wheels fell off the delivery vehicle. Two in our party ordered the same drink (as they had 2 other times), yet 2 completely different drinks came out. The next try got one close to right, and the other one not. We kept the close one and the final attempt on the other was still not right, but close enough given all the effort expended. The atmosphere is fun and the staff was all pleasant - though we obviously had some issues. There's a minimal wine selection, and prices are reasonable. We may have just gone on a bad night and we'll try it again and order food. It's an interesting concept, but based on our experience, still not well honed. read more

This is a new place and they just had their grand opening last weekend! I went to their soft opening and it's a pretty cool place. Was a tad hard to find off of google maps but it's across the way from the gas station off railroad Ave. This place is HUGE! You can get order all kinds of craft beers plus the classics that everyone likes. If you ever want to watch any games, this is the place to go! They have HUGE TVs on their walls so you can see it from everywhere you are sitting or standing. As for food they have staff who will take your orders for the food trucks that are there. They have Banh Me!, 515 PI, and Karam's Grill so plenty of options for food. Big tables with bench seating fill up the entire area and a huge long bar to order your drinks. I have now been here 4 times and feel like I have given a lot of the trucks a fair shake. The vegetarian options are still lacking but the the DM Pi truck has a couple vegetarian options as does the one with Irish waffle fries (I don't remember the names). The fries were really good and were an easy split for 2 people. Still, I don't think I could ever come here for dinner bar the pizza. All in all, they have great little finger foods to share, but coming here hungry isn't really an option unless you want to eat fried everything. The bar portion is great. Amazing beer list and having table service is great especially when you are playing board games you want to avoid getting up from. The two projectors means that there isn't a dull spot in the bar, but the clientele isn't meant for sports fans but instead people who are just out an about so you get to avoid rambunctious drunk fans yelling all the time. I like this European inspired beer house. The staff is friendly. The beer choices nearly four dizen in number and variety. Plus there wine and spirits options. This is the second time we've visited and ordered from the food trucks. Food is unique and flavorful. Recommend the wonton....but I digress. This place started out to be really cool. Nice place to hang out with adults to have a beer together. Unfortunately it has started to allow babies and little kids into the building ... including evenings. Just last Saturday NIGHT their were multiple KIDS birthday parties going on. Even the waiters and waitresses were getting annoyed by all the kids under their feet. Parents were walking into the building with baby carriers. What the heck? The Hall needs to decide if they want an adults only brewery or a Chucky Cheese. Most adults I know go out for a drink to take a break from the daily grind. I like hanging out here. They have lots of room and lots to drink. The wait staff comes around and checks on you so you don't even have to get up for more beer. They have some giant TVs so if the game is on you can get all excited about it if that is your thing. I saw some people hammering nails into a giant stump. Some kind of weird lumberjack game or something. Not my idea of a safe drinking activity, but this is America and we are free. People might be playing cards, backgammon, or a number of other inferior board games. Some are on hand. I am honestly shocked that the yelp rating is not higher for the Hall. I was blown away by this place! First- the atmosphere was fun, upbeat, just lively. When we arrived for our first visit to the Hall yesterday there was live music (Brady Lee) that we really enjoyed. Not sure if that's a regular Friday night thing or not... we put in an order for our food and drinks and enjoyed the awesome music while we waited. The long communal tables and benches are something they are apparently known for. I got an old fashioned and my husband ordered some German beer he really enjoyed. The nachos and Caprese pizza were unbelievably tasty, I'd highly recommend both. Back patio is great, very clean, spacious, and also shaded. We had a great time, and will definitely be returning soon. Only minor complaints are that the kiosk at which you can place a digital order is a little confusing to use. Also it was a little buggy on the patio, but not terrible. All that to say, this is definitely one of my favorite new spots. Can't wait to get back! read more

This. Place. Is. HUGE! It's all communal seating with these giant wood tables and benches but there is certainly PLENTY of seating to accommodate a couple or a massive party! They have a patio so during summertime it can get kind of busy, especially if you go on a Thursday night and the Valley Junction farmers market is going on. They have a HUGE selection of beers and all the workers are super knowledgeable about them all. Not to mention it's a hub for a lot of major food trucks in town so they'll have different foods available everyday. And you don't even have to get up to order! You can order food right through The Hall app and your name will pop up on their massive screen and let you know when you're good is ready to be picked up at the counter! It's a family friendly environment with plenty of board games for everyone. They also have bingo on Mondays and trivia on Tuesdays! I was on a cider kick for whatever reason and tried a couple interesting ones. I have heard of Ace Pear cider, and didn't know they had Pineapple variety. It was quite good! Not overly sweet, but refreshing. This will probably be on my summer patio drinking rotation this summer. Another cider I had was a Honeycrisp variety from Minnesota. Overall it's a fun place to hang out and meet friends. It did get rather loud unfortunately, so save the intimate convos for later! Craft beer lovers will love this place, there's plenty of space, and plenty of beer, along with some food served inside, and plenty of board games to choose from. I got the Passe' and the Groovy Ruby, both good, and figured I'd take advantage of getting some Iowa beers while in the state. Didn't get to try any of the food, but it's cool that they did. There was also an outdoor area but idk if it was open that early in the day when I was there, but it looked real ideal for nice weather. The only minor quabble is that the screen with the beer list keeps moving/rotating, i just wished it stayed still.
