Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Spring Harbor

Adulthood and responsibilities have brought me to the lifestyle of the constant oil change. Or…read moremaybe it's still having a car from the 90's and wanting to make sure my beater car runs as well as it possibly can. Yeah, the latter. I've recently found a Oil Change location that I trust and that is Valvoline Instant Oil Change off of University Avenue in Madison. Not to be confused with their many other locations, while the other ones I've used have a friendly staff, this spot has a knowledgeable and direct staff (friendly too, of course). I can't remember the guy's name (Steve maybe?) but he's been there both times I've gone in and he tells me what my car needs and what I can go without for a while. Plus, they aren't shy about discounts - bring your receipt back, write a review, check in on FourSquare - all of these are easy ways to make your visit more affordable. Oh, and if you go regularly, they sometimes give you a 15% discount card to be used on your next visit. Their hours are actually somewhat convenient too - open until 6pm Monday thru Friday, plus Saturday AND Sunday hours? Bonus! I think I got there at 5:45 one night and had to wait about 15 minutes to get in (just a little after they officially closed), but they still spent the time to service my vehicle and were just as pleasant as usual. Professionals, that's what you'll get here.

DO NOT GET AN OIL CHANGE HERE!…read more Their technicians are either untrained or lazy. Their negligent behavior directly caused my skid plate to drag on the ground while driving 70 mph on the interstate. While they so graciously refunded the cost of the oil change, which essentially admitted guilt, they refused to reimburse the cost of the tow, repairs, hotel & Lyft. After calling Valvoline to make a claim, they said I would get a call back. Instead I had to call again after 4 days without hearing back from them. Ralph, the area manager, was absolutely rude and unapologetic. He is not a good representative of this company.

How do you know you have an honest shop? When they, like a…read moredoctor, tell you that you have a terminal hospice patient and not something they can cure. I have never had a more honest shop. The news I got was terrible-tied with serious sentimental value-the answer I got was honest. I had to convince them to do the work to make it safe to drive-knowing there was no cure. Then they do it in record time, charge me less than others would or quoted and were nice as could be. They explained the in detail what they could and could not cure, advised that I not invest and after significant pressure offered a middle path. They stayed opened late to accommodate, did amazing work and did it well. I love this shop. You will too.

Don't let the other reviews fool you. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop or…read moreits staff. I brought my car in on August 10th for an oil change, tire rotation, and to check a service light on the dash. About an hour later I got a call about it, and was given an outrageous quote to repair the root cause of the light, which turned out to be my alternator. On that call I wasn't given any real explanation or even a breakdown of the cost. That's also where I learned about a diagnostic fee I would be charged even if I went ahead with the repair, something I was never told about upfront. I declined the repair. After that call, I got quotes from a dealership and two other local shops for the same alternator repair. DiMaggio was going to charge me roughly 30 percent more than the dealership and nearly 70 percent more than the other local shops. Nobody called to let me know my car was ready, so I showed up assuming it was done. At pickup, I was charged for services I never approved, with no explanation until I pushed for one. My invoice said I had been given a courtesy vehicle inspection, but I didn't actually receive the results until after I had already complained. When I asked for the manager's contact information in person, I was handed a business card with an incorrect email address on it. I had to track down his correct email myself just to reach him. He did call the following day, and I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 only because of that call, but the conversation mostly defended his team's handling of things rather than offering any real path to fixing it. Because of that, I ended up taking my car to another shop instead. This experience was more than terrible. It didn't make sense on paper or even in person. Avoid this shop if you can.
