I had contacted them by email and via their website (contact us) for an estimate to top off 4 large trees. I got an email from Chad saying he'd be happy to provide an estimate and offered a suggested day and time to which I responded. But no response from Top Notch to set up the day and time. I reached out again via their website and explained I was making a second request for an appointment for an estimate to top 4 large trees and clear brush/saplings from the side of my house. Someone called and apologized for the delay and we set up a time. An hour after our appointment time, Chad arrived. No apology for being late. He seemed disinterested and a bit bothered by our request to top off the trees and said it would be "easier" for them if they could just cut the trees down. I asked if it was cheaper and he said not necessarily. He left and said he'd be sending me an estimate. That was over a week ago and still no estimate. I wish I could comment on their actual work but I can only comment on their appointment management and follow through. Not impressed. **UPDATE: Upon a request from Top Notch on 10/31/22, I was asked to update my review and remove the "false information" I provided. My neighbor had Top Notch Tree Services come out to remove a few trees from their yard. The workers were professional in every respect. They removed limbs and put them into a chipper. Once the trees were felled, they cut them and hauled them off. Throughout the day they worked quickly and efficiently. At the end of the day, they cleaned up, raked the areas where they had sawdust and other debris. There were power lines, cable lines, garages, stone benches, and shrubbery all in their way, and this was in a downtown Fredericksburg city lot which is only 37' wide. With no path to get the Cherry-Picker in the Top Notch crew had to climb both trees and by using rope lower each limb and trunk. Quite spectacular work to watch and behold. I highly recommend Top Notch. For sure everyone should at a minimum get an estimate from them before choosing a tree service. We had the best experience with All Top Notch Tree Services just a couple weeks ago. We had been wanting to get a tree removed from our front lawn for a couple months but kept putting it off. It was too close to the house with branches touching the siding and we were nervous that it would one day fall. Well, hearing that a potential blizzard was on its way, we called Chad and he and his crew came to our house the morning of the blizzard (1/22/16) to get the tree down. They were very reasonably priced and did a quick and efficient job. We were especially impressed that they put down metal sheets on our grass to drive their big truck as to not mess up our lawn. We purchased our new home in October 2015 and the front, sides and back of the house has hardly a yard due to the very large trees near the home and one was even rotten on the inside and several leaning toward the home and was very unsafe. Chad came with a 3 person crew and in just one day removed 7 huge trees, trimmed many and numerous bushes/smaller trees removed as well. He had a bucket truck that reached the impossible. Amazing crew! Their attention to safety was impressive. This crew came in assessed the job and set up their game plan. They start by removing lower limbs and putting them in the wood chipper. Then with the bucket truck and ropes they took the tree down from top to bottom. They are experienced and dropped each limb and tree section safely. They knew exactly where they wanted it to fall and made it happen. They took down two very big trees- one in front and one in back which entailed removing wooden fence to get truck and equipment through. The stumps were ground down and everything was cleaned up and removed. The fence was put back up and my property looks so much better. The crew was prompt and on time. I'm a new, first time home owner and have never paid for lawn or tree services before. After attending the Home Expo in Central Park in March, dad suggested I have trees cut down ASAP for "winter rates" and before spring leaves begin to grow. So I scheduled 5 separate companies for estimates on removing ONE white oak tree that needed to come down for an addition that I'm hoping to start ASAP. Finding a company that was safe, licensed, insured, on the low end of cost, and could complete the work on the day I wanted was my priority (and in that order). I closed on my house a year ago and the inspector pointed out a dead red oak tree that needed to come down. Each of the 5 companies suggested I cut down both trees at once to save money, that the red oak was in danger of damaging my shed, my house and several neighbor properties. Chad from All Top Notch gave me the best (lowest price for the most work), while providing immediate evidence of his license and insurance - when I asked one company about their license and insurance, they responded "of course we are!" but offered no proof even when directly asked for proof (sketchy!). I like that Chad presented this information within a minute of meeting me and without being asked. When Chad left, dad and I were convinced that we would go with Chad's company, but we still had one more previously scheduled estimate that arrived shortly after Chad left. The last estimate explained that his dad is a contractor, he asked to see the floor plans of the future addition, did some measuring, and suggested we also remove a third white oak tree that he thought would be compromised by the addition. His reasoning was convincing but his price for just the original white oak and the dead red oak trees were completely out of reach for me. So we called Chad about adding that third tree and he came out the next morning to give us a third estimate. I felt bad for bringing him out twice in less than 20-hours but he was very professional and friendly. I liked that Chad gave me three separate estimates to help make a decision. One estimate for the one white oak tree, then the white oak and the dead red oak, and then an estimate for all 3 trees. We negotiated a price that included a little discount for paying in cash and Chad was able to further trim the price by making suggestions for work that I could do. Chad understood that I needed this work done but I needed to complete the work as frugally as possible and I appreciated that he figured out how to make the price for all three trees attainable for me. Then I thought, hey... lets walk around my property and he can let me know if there are any big red flags for the future. He pointed out a few limbs that were getting close to my roof and a few scraggly, cosmetic pieces coming out of a trunk that had been trimmed long ago. He wrote those details into the estimate for no additional cost. Of course, I loved that. On the day the crew arrived to do the work, dad and I moved the thrift store patio furniture onto the lawn so we could watch the 3-man crew work. Dad and I spent at least 4 hours hanging out, eating snacks, and enjoying the show. The crew brought a crane and mulcher, which was fun to watch. My neighborhood has lots of retired folks and they were all on their porches drinking and eating peanuts and taking photos. Once the guys got started around 10am, they did not stop for even a bathroom break until after 3:30 and were completely finished around 4:30. Each member of the crew worked non-stop: cleaning the chain saw, cleaning up the mess on the driveway from the mulcher, roping off branches or parts of the trunk, cutting the trunk into 16-inch blocks for firewood, or stacking the wood where I wanted it behind my shed. They even used the crane to hop on my neighbors' house to blow off all the sawdust from his roof and gutters. Honestly, I was a little concerned that the crew was working too hard, so we got them some Gatorade and lunch from Wawa. Chad came by three times to make sure the work was going well. They did all of the work that was outlined in the estimate, all the work that we discussed, left one stump 6ft tall as requested to use as leverage for digging out the crawl space and did a great job cleaning up my property and my neighbors' and now we can start the next steps of the addition. In the end, whenever you buy something or use a service, you have to think... knowing what I know now, what would I do differently and would I use this service in the future? I wouldn't do anything differently. I'm a researcher type person, so I would always recommend getting several estimates so you feel comfortable with your decision and because you never know how one person might have a unique experience, interest, or suggestion that can end up benefitting you. I would comfortably and confidently put All Top Notch at the top of my list and this is the company that I'll be recommending to my neighbors and friends. read more

As there are many reviews here that are 5 star, if I could rate Top Notch above that I would. Chad and his Crew are the best company and professional group of hard working guys I have ever seen when it comes to tree removal. Chad has the right equipment and crew that can take care of any size job! I had used his service in the past so this review is long overdue as this is now the second time he has done work for me. I had about 5 big trees that were within 20 feet as the crow would fly. One was about 4 feet in diameter standing over 110 feet tall over my home, 4 other ones slightly smaller about the same height. Over the past year or so I have noticed a bunch of the trees rotting and have been nervous with the storms especially having kids. I called Chad up and he came out within a day or two. Agreed to what a fair price was for all I wanted done. While in the middle of the job I decided after cutting these trees out it left some other thinner trees that looked funky with no limbs still in the way, so we worked out the rest on the fly and Chad agreed to take care of it. Not at any time did I feel I was being overcharged or ripped off as a lot of people in general get now days when they get services or major things like this done to their home/property. The fact i now have peace of mind during windy days and storms that my children are safe is above all worth it. I now have daylight in the house and the amount of leaves this will clear up for me starting in a couple of months from now will pay for itself in the end. Overall, These guys worked hard in 100 plus degree weather for me for 3 and a half days or so, while putting their lives in danger with the high risk nature of the work they performed . The company works safely, ethically and as quickly as I could see something like this taking.. I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone that is looking for tree work.
