We hired Bernie to replace our old garage door for a really low garage (6.5 feet high). Most of the other garage door companies either refused or asked for ridiculous amount of money to do the job. Bernie went above and beyond, spent all day replacing the door, did an exception job!! Door works like a charm and he charged us extremely reasonable amount (compared to the other companies). Based on recommendations from my local Next Door, I called Bernie at Top Notch. His phone number (818) 731-4812. The cable on my 25 year old garage door got tangled, the door came off the track and wouldn't close. Bernie just spent 2 hours working on it. Everything is fixed and the door is working like it's brand new. Bernie returns calls quickly, comes out as soon as he can and his prices are very reasonable. I would recommend him very highly. One thing to watch out for, make sure you call the number I gave at the top of these comments. There are scammers using his business name when you look Top Notch up in Google. I called the number listed in Porter Ranch yesterday. There is also one listed in Westlake Village. They are not Top Notch though they will tell you they are. Anyhow I called my insurance company and they said that they would cover it, but that I had to look for a garage door professional. So I looked online and found Bernie at top-notch garage doors! Prompt, very courteous, professional and fair. I accidentally backed into my roll-up garage door causing one panel to bind and the make the door inoperable. I called Top Notch and actually got a live person on the phone. Bernie said he needed to see the door to determine what needed to be done. He came right over. We agreed that if possible he would find and replace the one damaged panel. He called around and was able to locate the the original maker. Unfortunately the panel I needed was no longer available. Bernie suggested that I could either replace all the panels (several hundred dollars) or he could install a steel brace to reinforce the weak panel. My choice. I chose the latter. He came back a day later with the long brace and quickly installed it. Without my asking, he also adjusted the spring tension on the door and lubricated all the rollers. He could have charged me several hundred dollars to replace all the panels but instead he used a little ingenuity and labor and saved me several hundred dollars. I had a obstruction in the track of my roll-up garage door. It had pulled the door out of alignment. I tried to fix it myself with terrible results. The complete garage door ended up falling off the tracks and onto the floor. I figured the door would be in the land fill soon. I called Top Notch, my neighbor recommended them, Bernie came out, same day no less. He pulled the garage door flat onto the floor. Before it was in a pile on then floor. He looked at it and said he thought it could be salvaged. The door was an expensive Clopay double insulated door very heavy. He came next morning and replaced all the hinges and hardware, an within 3 hours the door was on the track and running better than ever. Bernie is an excellent mechanic at his trade. Top Notch is the best. Over the years I have used three different garage door services. There is no contest. Bernie knows what he is doing. He is honest and totally reliable. Five years ago Bernie fixed a problem and we were very happy with his service and the results. Then this morning, the garage door wouldn't close. Called Bernie. He asked some questions and trouble-shot the problem over the phone--the sensors were out of alignment. It took me two minutes to fix. Less scrupulous people would have made a service call and charged plenty. Bernie also does beautiful work installing new doors. I am so angry that I am beside myself. I called this company to fix my garage door that came off of the track. On the web site they stated that the fee for coming out was 15 dollars. Of course they try to charge me 19 dollars. I know this sounds cheap but it indicates the character of the company you are dealing with. I had this repair done a few months ago and it cost a couple of hundred dollars. The person they sent out quoted me 450 dollars for a job that would take 30 to 60 minutes. This is nothing short of outrageous. When I asked what company he was from he didn't even know the name of company that had supposedly sent him. I called them and they apologized and said that he was from their company. In short the person was an independent contractor, if he even worked for the company, and was attempting to over charge me as much as possible. The company covered this up by saying that he as a new employee. If he was new, why didn't they question the accuracy of his estimate. Even after talking to the company they would only reduce the repair by a tiny amount. When the technician arrived he was driving an old mini van and I couldn't even who or where he was from. I called another company and they quoted me 130 dollars. I am doing my best to let my friends and neighbors know about this company. read more
