Let me update ya'll on what this place is like now. I hadn't been here in a while, because I had been going to the nail place by my gym. But I decided to come in today, just because I had been going to the Cato in the same strip mall. I expected good service, as that is what I had remembered from visiting a year or two ago.
I made an appointment the day before and came in. There was only one other client when I arrived. There appeared to be at least 6-8 people working there and except for the person working with the client, the others were all chillin. In the back of the shop. But. I. came. in. at. the. front. With all these people, why isn't someone sitting at the front to greet people????
No one came to the front and greeted me. Instead, they yelled at me - I think to inquire what I needed.
But I couldn't really make out what they were saying. So we yelled back and forth until they understood I wanted a mani and a pedi.
Who the hell does that to a customer?
Somebody get the h**l up and greet me, one, like I am a human being and two, like I got some d**n money in my pocket.
Seriously, several staff members were sitting, tapping their fingers and nobody made a move to get up. They were laughing and chatting and talking to each other like they were at a picnic in Piedmont Park. And I'm sitting here trying to figure out what they are yelling at me.
I do NOT work hard to spend my money. So I'm not yelling back. I speak in a soft conversational tone. When someone wants to figure out what I'm saying, they will either read my lips or stand the h**l up.
Someone finally gets up, walks to the front, and we go through the regular nail shop motion. I pick a color. They get the foot bath ready, etc.
I sit. They get started. No smiles. No warm greeting. Just mechanical, "I'm tiy-ed and I don't really give a d**n service."
At one point, the woman giving me a pedicure starts to use a foot file on me that looks like a cheese grater. The only problem is that the cheese grater looks dusty. Real dusty. Ashy. Like its got other people's foot flakes on it. It looked disgusting. I signaled her to not put that s**t on me. Don't even touch me with it. She uses a much milder looking pumice type widget that came out of the bag with the sterilized widgets.
Sigh of relief. Seriously? Why in the hayle would I want the cheese grater that looks like it was used on err body's feet yesterday? If it was clean, she should have piped up and communicated and reassured me that it was. But she barely said a word to me the whole time. I don't need a lot of conversation. But some communication is nice. Let me know that I picked out a nice color. Sumthin.
During the pedicure, she asked me if I wanted a deluxe pedicure. I promptly said no. I am not being serviced in any "deluxe" manner so you ain't upselling over here. She also asked me if I wanted an eyebrow wax. Again, negative.
Finally, the lackluster experience is over. My nails are done. And they look okay. Not great. But not bad.
I won't be going back. This used to be such a good place. As I left, I wondered what happened. As I walked out the door, I noted that two staff members were straight chillin on the sofas by the door. One has her feet curled up under her and is greedily using her smart phone. She didn't even look up to say good bye and thank you.
As I was leaving, another woman came in and she looked all confused too at the way they were communicating (just lackluster and careless).
Maybe it's under new management? Not sure. But this visit sucked big rocks. Hope it gets better. In the meantime, I'll be going elsewhere. I don't work hard to spend my money. Period. read more
