Plus, the whole process was super quick...I was in and out in just 45 minutes. But the experience itself was frustrating and uncomfortable. The technician was rough and he didn't bother asking what shape or length I wanted before aggressively filing my nails down. One nail was filed so short it was genuinely painful, and I had to ask him to stop. He also drilled my nails so thin they feel like paper and skipped cutting my hangnails entirely. On top of that, everyone's attitude was cold and unwelcoming, making the whole appointment unpleasant. If you only care about speed, this place might work. I had an extremely upsetting experience at Topsails Nail Salon in Rockville, MD in July 2025. What should've been a simple nail appointment turned into an emotionally exhausting and degrading situation that left me feeling dismissed and disrespected. I originally requested a Classic Pedicure, but the technician, Vincent, encouraged me to upgrade to the Organic Volcano Spa Pedicure. I agreed. However, this service does not include a gel pedicure, and I did not ask for one. I don't typically get gel on my toes because regular polish lasts just fine. But while I was lightly napping, Vincent went ahead and applied gel without discussing it with me. By the time I woke up, it was already done. I felt cornered into a service I hadn't agreed to. Things worsened during the Gel-X manicure. I noticed immediately that my pinky nail was crooked, and I asked Vincent if he could fix it. I also asked him to shorten a few of my nails. Instead of simply correcting the shape (which I was paying a premium for), he seemed personally offended that I was pointing it out. He never acknowledged the nail was crooked, and instead of continuing professionally, he decided to bring over the manager. I hadn't raised my voice or been rude--he just didn't seem to like being asked to adjust his work. The manager began working on my nails, but she was clearly irritated and not gentle. Her reshaping didn't improve the situation. In fact, my nails ended up looking even more misshapen. When she said Vincent would return to finish, I calmly told her I didn't feel comfortable with that. If he was upset by me simply requesting a correction, I didn't want him working on my hands again. Instead of responding with empathy, she said loudly in front of everyone, "Don't take it personally." I asked her to please lower her voice, as I didn't appreciate having my concerns broadcast to the whole salon. After that, a third technician was brought in to finish. By then, it was clear I was being viewed as "the problem," even though all I did was ask for my nails to be done properly. When the service finally ended, my nails still looked crooked, misshaped, and there was bubbling under the Gel-X, which shouldn't happen with proper application. Despite all of this, I was charged $149 for an experience that was incomplete, frustrating, and nowhere near the standard I was expecting. What's especially disheartening is that I remained calm and composed the entire time, even though I had every right to be frustrated. I wasn't angry--I was simply trying to advocate for myself. But that was treated as a threat. In today's climate, I'm very aware of how things can escalate--especially for Black women--so I focused on de-escalating and staying peaceful, even though I shouldn't have had to. If there's audio or video footage from the salon, I hope they review it. It will clearly show that I was polite and reasonable, while the staff became dismissive and defensive. This experience left me feeling taken advantage of, talked over, and dismissed--not just as a customer, but as a person. I won't be returning, and I caution others to think twice before spending your time or money at a place where basic respect isn't guaranteed. I am now scouring the reviews for something that I may have missed. Now, I see that there was a warning to steer clear of Vincent. However, his behavior is clearly acceptable to management who are just as culpable. read more

With my usual nail salon closed on Mondays, and my partner with an unexpected day off, we went to Top Nail at Yelp's recommendation - and we weren't disappointed! The pedicure was exceptionally comfortable. I have tiny toes, so there really wasn't much to work on, but the foot care was very nice. I got shellac gel done to my nails, and really love the results! I have a hard time growing my nails out because of my day job, but shellac gel helps me to let them get a little longer. I love the fun colors they had available! Instead of correcting his work professionally, Vincent tried to charge me again for a fix. He originally quoted $70 for a new set and $50 for refills, but I was charged $65 each time. He added surprise fees for shaping (square vs. coffin) and using mood polish--none of which were explained upfront. When I reviewed my receipts and questioned the charges, his attitude shifted and he passed me off to his boss Christine, who was kind and apologetic. Vincent's lack of transparency, poor attitude, and emotional instability made the whole experience uncomfortable. He also chain-smokes constantly, which is off-putting in a professional environment. The 1st event was the Beyonce Renaissance Concert and the 2nd event was the Wicked Movie premiere. Everyone was very nice but my nail tech took 2 hours to do my tips and dip and I had wait 30 minutes even tho I made an appointment. You know who the good nail techs are and who isn't. They have there own customers and give the new customers to the not so experienced. One of my nails was obviously crocked and when I would mention it she didn't understand what I was saying. She didn't cut my nails down to the length I wanted either. Not going back. Just because I don't understand what you are saying doesn't mean I don't know what's going on. read more

Walked in on a Monday as it was pretty empty and I was in the area. Wanted a pedicure and was promptly sat at a chair. My pedicurist was nice and did a great job. My only complaint is that it did smell a little mildew-y inside the salon (maybe I was sitting next to the used towels), they don't use bowl liners which was a little off putting and I felt like the massage was all of 2 minutes. Finding a good nail salon with decent pricing is not easy..I came across Top Nails a couple months ago when I first moved to the Rockville area. My first experience there was very pleasant and I found myself making Top nails my go to until this past weekend. I had a full set done that was very long overdue on removing(from the same location) and unfortunately my real nails ended up partially breaking. To avoid my completely breaking I placed a bandage and immediately called for a walk-in. I always appreciate how the place is accommodating to last minute appointments. When I get there I was set up with the technician, Holly, she assessed my nails and I explained how my nail broke and I just wanted all the full set removed and gel on my real nails. She started my soaking my nails in acetone and removing the set I had and the previous manicure as well. After about 7 mins of soaking, she comes back and from there things went downhill..to remove my full set she used the tweezers to get in-between and proceeded to rip the full set. I verbally yelped "OW" and she continued with no apology...that honestly should've been the red flag but I just calmly said " that kind of hurt." From there, she fixed my partially broke nail but adds the comment "you can't fix this with a bandage over it. You need to use dip or glue" confused I asked her, "what do you mean by that..? Like, I fix it?" Thinking maybe she misspoke but no she repeated herself and while fixing it with dip she says, "like this." I'm never not to speak out whenever I'm unhappy with the service but this time I didn't raise this to the manager (when I should've) because I was in a rush and everyone was busy. I ended up with a slanted square shape nails with streaks. Overall, never going back there and if I do, never requesting for Holly. read more
