Joel Joseph Perez is not a good person to work with. He charged $1000 for some repairs and promised to finish the installation of a Spark Arrestor in 4-6 weeks. After numerous calls and texts it became clear that he does not have anyone who can actually do the install, and when I asked for a refund he offered to deliver the part but not install it. What use is a Chimmey Service that cant get on the roof to service a chimney? Now I have a complaint with the BBB. Yelp says that his business is closed, but I have a receipt from 01 26 2021 so the business is still active. read more

Three weeks prior I scheduled a day off work to accommodate the appointment, Dude called texted me the night before asking to reschedule I texted back I could not reschedule, my house was going on the market on the upcoming weekend. He did not respond back so I thought we were still on the schedule. But he was a NO SHOW and only responded back after I hounded him with repeated text and voice mails. Home Services Top Hat Chimney Service Santa Clarita, California, USA (Owner Joseph Perez) I would not recommend Top Hat Chimney Service. I called them to free up the damper. They offered a cleaning service for $99.00 I said ok. they cleaned the fireplace and then said they would try to free up the damper for an additional $125.00. They had the damper working in about 5-10 minutes and charged $224.00 for the whole job. My complaint is that the minor damper free-up should not have been $125.00. I got a call last night asking if I wanted to schedule a fireplace cleaning today and quickly agreed, as we were overdue. Fortunately I looked up the old records I'd kept on previous work done, and my bad experience with this company came back in a flash. I canceled the appointment. What I recalled was that the Top Hat person I previously dealt with was aggressive and rude. I am a woman, and he apparently felt more comfortable doing business with men. I had arranged for an inspection of the fireplace in a home I was buying, and he seemed to want to deal with everyone present except me. He consulted at length with the sellers (two men), apparently trying to cut some kind of deal. When my realtor walked in, he asked "Is that your husband?" Even though I said "no," he proceeded to speak to the realtor about the job, ignoring me. When I complained about his behavior, reminding him that I was the one writing a check for his services, he got belligerent, insisting he was doing me a favor with the unsolicited arrangements he was trying to make with the sellers. His tone of voice and attitude were overbearing and unprofessional. He made a negative impression on everyone present. I'm glad I remembered that unfortunate experience in time to cancel the appointment I made so hastily last night. $225 for the inspection, and the man who came out was very unfriendly. The resulting report said our chimney was all around in poor condition, unsafe and $2500 in repairs was necessary. We hired another more reputable company for a second opinion. They told us our chimney was actually in good condition, safe, and the inspection and minor repairs recommended totaled $269. read more

He was not only extremely rude to my mom (the one who was PAYING him), but when he was called out for his poor customer service, he had the nerve to claim he was actually doing her a favor. Two guys from Top Hat Chimney Service came out to my rental house today in Ventura county, and they were great... They were a bit late ( 25mins ) but they did call me and let me know they were running late. They were very clean and help with my smoke problems . Top Hat Chimney Service was hired to come to Santa Clarita and they did not do what I paid for. I needed a chimney inspection for my soon to be home. My credit card was charged Monday and Tuesday Joel showed up to the home that needed inspection. My agent arrived on time and Joel had already been there for 30 minutes, with the sellers of the home. At the time she did not know that he had not done a video (which we paid for). He did not say much to her at the time and seeing that the sellers were there, okay. But then, he had the sellers sign the invoice (as the customer) and handed it to my agent. It had a couple of notes but it did not have 1) an estimate, 2) anything about said video, 3)or a report. We called him over the next day several times. When he finally returned my agents call, he denied having agreed to the video, but then admitted to overcharging me. He denied agreeing to writing a report as well. I am the paying customer and he still has not contacted me at all. He also hung up on my agent. So what did I pay him for? An invoice? Very unprofessional and it will end up costing me more as I need to get another inspection. Waste of time. read more

This company is beyond unprofessional. If I could add negative stars to this review, I would. My husband scheduled an appointment for a chimney sweep. We rearranged our schedule to accommodate the appointment. An hour after the scheduled appt, my husband called them and asked where they were. They didn't call back for an hour or so And offered $10 off for a future appt. we scheduled another appt for a week later. They never showed for that appt!! We called twice asking where they were and NEVER even received a call back!! Unbelievable. Their website touts "Best prices, Best service guaranteed" -that is obviously far from the truth. If you need a chimney sweep In Ventura or Santa Clarita Counties, look elsewhere! read more

My experience was the same as the other negative reviews: This guy Joel was very manipulative with the pricing and he tried to "jack me up". He did not attempt the inspections that he had promised when I made the appointment and he sat in his car while his "sidekick" did what little they did. I found Joel to be very rude and I would not recommend them to anyone. I might as well had burnt the money I paid them in the fireplace! read more

JOEL - TOP HAT - NEVER USE... Just to confirm and update we had another service come in. They said it was never cleaned. New company used a pole and put down chimney to clean and then cleaned and vacuumed from bottom. They took pictures to show us how badly it was cleaned..... My wife said JOEL never used the pole to clean from top nor did he vacuum from underneath behind the vent. They had a vacuum but who knows what they did. New company said Joel installed the best shield thingy that goes on top of chimney to prevent rain etc. THey use the same one..... New company said they would of charged 150. Also they charge around 30 bucks for the vent clip. So Joel ripped me off for 330 - 150 -30 = 180... new company charged me 150. So to clean my chimney the right way was 330..instead of 150.. Interesting Joel never contacted us or followed up or showed any concern with our phone call to him or this review... Hopefully you find the company I used that did it the right way.... ugh...still can' believe I got ripped off... I pride myself on picking the right people for the job.... Very, very expensive. I needed a flue cap, spark arrestor ($225) and basic cleaning ($150) but then was up sold on acidic cleaning ($125) of mold and ended up with $500 less in my account. I could not get the straight answer on why the process was really necessary. I was quoted cheaper prices on the phone. I wish I had read the other negative reviews.
