Parking nearby is horrendous, super busy even on the weekdays before the rush hour so I can't imagine weekends when people are out or other high traffic times. Get ready to make some rounds and pay for parking and be careful since there's very specific signage and times. The cafe itself is cute and cozy. Front area is a gift shop with lots of cat themed gifts and goodies like keychains, stickers, and such, and also some items from local and small artists too, which is neat. The cafe also has community events like movie showings ("The Cat Returns" was one of them which is a great choice) and cat yoga. If you're local, you can also get a time stamp if you are a frequent visitor. Definitely follow their socials for more information. There's reservations online and you can also do walk ins if it's not super busy. You can book for a 55 minute visit or a 30 minute visit. PRO-TIP: There's a discount for students, so if you want to be surrounded by some feline friends while you study or relax, great place to do so. You can hang your coat on the rack and there's a mini shelf area for your shoes. So you gotta walk in with socks! With each visit you can either get a hot cup of tea or a cold can or box drink from their fridge (sparking water, juices, etc.). Very refreshing and you can enjoy it in the cat area too. Sanitize your hands before and after visiting. There's lots of cats hiding around, sleeping, walking around, and some are super friendly and will go into your lap. There's toys you can play with the cats with and there's a wall of adoptable cats. Lots of seats or you can opt to sit on the floor with the cats too. There's relaxing lo-fi music throughout too. Pretty cool that they rescued 2 cats from Qatar and neat that we got to see them. As with all cats, some can be a bit spicy but it's usually just a warning teeth rub. I own cats so there's nothing new. I'm horribly allergic to the cat that specifically lives in my house, but I didn't get an allergy here, meaning that the cats are clean and well taken for. My favorite was a large sleepy orange boy, Ron (permanent non-adoptable resident) that was hanging out next to me the entire time.

If you forget which little furry ball of love you just recently looked at 'cause there are so many you're going to click on anyhow, they show you on the bottom of the screen. They narrow down breeds, ages, sizes, restrictions. Oh my goodness, it's like I'm ordering a car, but instead a 2 ton piece of steel, I'm looking for a cuddly buddy to wake up to and come between me and the boyfriend. Ha ha! They all come spayed/neutered (thank you Bob Barker), with shots, vet visit included and a strict screening process for applicants. That's what I'm talking about people! If they haven't had the item I'm seeking, they make helpful suggestions. Longer: I have an extremely picky cat and there have been times over the years I've forgotten to order her special food or the delivery is delayed, so then I go hunting through the City. Plus, I love animals and stopping in a mom and pop pet shop "just to see what there is" happens frequently xD Unfortunately, the Animal Company hasn't carried what I needed in the past, as the cat and dog food selection is fairly limited (yet varied) given the hundreds of varieties of foods nowadays. I digress... just last weekend my kitty's special kidney food was delayed in transit and the lil chonker ate through her last order in record time. Kitty has gotten accustomed to a mix of kidney+core wellness and she let us know allllllll night Friday into Saturday that her food was not right. After two nights in a row of poor sleep, I was determined to find (Weruva) Wx Low Phos tilapia+tuna somewhere in the City. PFE website says they have it, but no stores have in stock (thank goddess I called before trekking). Called a few of the smaller shops around town with no luck. As options were dwindling, I gave The Animal Company a call and imagine my surprise when a cheery voice on the other end of the phone confirmed they did indeed have what I was looking for! It was 4th of July and the person on the phone informed me they were closing early, around 3pm, and put 4 cans of food aside for me. I immediately hopped off the couch and we got on our way to the J. Within an hour I had kidney friendly food plus some kidney friendly treats (!! Wx Low Phos new product) in hand, a full belly (stopped at Subs Inc. across the street), and we were on our way back home. Note: yes, about half+ the store is dedicated to birbs. I'm glad I took some time to read reviews+Rick's responses here on Yelp, 'cause admittedly it made me a lil sad to see some of the birbs in the store, I realize now I subconsciously avoided it. Turns out, many of the birbs in store are being boarded (and very! well cared for). Totally understandable some may look sad given they're in a new environment and very likely missing their humans. I know my kitty would be absolutely out of sorts if taken out of home while I was away (and sure, birbs are different than cats, but these birbs are VERY smart). I've been following a woman on YT, I think a random covid SiP stumble, who has educated me on these magnificent, fascinating creatures (birbs). Social and highly intelligent animals require a lot of mental stimulation and space to move, and many of the birds were either isolated in a small cage or packed together in a cage with many others. I'm sad to see that in a progressive city like San Francisco, stores are still selling "exotic animals" from breeders while so many birds and other companion animals are waiting in rescues for homes. The exotic pet trade is chock-full of welfare and conservation issues, and it breaks my heart to see these living beings treated as retail products. I would love to see The Animal Company partner with rescues and adoption organizations instead of selling animals. That would be a compassionate step that better reflects the values many people in this community care about.

A year ago I adopted a dog from Taiwan; he is extremely fearful of everything, and distrustful of other people. He has been afraid to walk more than 20' from the house, pee or poop outside, or approach strangers. He would bark non-stop if I had a guest visit, and go bonkers whenever he heard a knock at the door, or heard a delivery man nearby. I was worried about how I could get my dog to the vet since he was due for all his vaccinations, and Darci put me in touch with a great veterinarian who makes housecalls. She offered to be here for the visit to help Bailey, since he is especially afraid of men. So she worked with him all day before the appointment; when the time and the knock on the door came, Bailey was ready and didn't freak out. Then the ultimate test: not one, but two men came into my home, and Bailey did great! Not one bark, he wasn't anxious, and even let both men pet him...he was actually playful! My jaw was on the floor. Thanks to all her positive reinforcement and praise, on day 2 of training, Bailey was letting Darci pet him and walk outside. Day 3, she got him to walk farther than he'd ever gone. Now--10 sessions later--he is going potty outside, getting pets and skritchies from neighbors, shooshes when I tell him to if there's a knock or a person comes over. I am blown away. Darci has also shown me how to work with my dog to build on what he's learned; it's obvious she truly cares to help Bailey. If you think your dog is beyond help, don't give up hope!! Please give Karma a try, it is truly worth every penny, and Darci is worth her weight in gold.

I am going to be reporting this dog walker to the police…read more Antoine currently owes me 90 dollars. He insisted on pre-payment for walks. (by the way I have never used another dog walker who insists on being paid two weeks in advance). When I decided that I wanted to switch walkers, Antoine agreed to refund the 90 dollars for the unused walks. First of all, I never signed a contract that said no refunds. When you demand pre-payment you have to be prepared to refund it when the customer decides to cancel the service. Second of all, even if that weren't the case, I have Antoine's written agreement and commitment that he was going to refund the money. Now he is ignoring my texts, calls, and Venmo requests. Third, it is so incredibly unprofessional that he would just IGNORE my texts and calls. I would NOT recommend him, and I definitely would NOT recommend paying him in advance.
