My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

My wife could not believe that I would select a daycare and boarding facility with no reviews. She was shocked. I mentioned to her that they were kennel-free. Those were magic words to me; kennel-free. One day waiting for my turn to drop off Stella Blue, I met a young lady who was so excited to drop off her dog. She told me that she had been waiting one year on the waiting list to come here. Told her that her baby was in good hands. In June 2022 my Stella Blue was diagnosed with B Lymphoma. It is a deadly disease; with no cure. B Lymphoma is not contagious. I was worried that DAA would drop us. Many daycare facilities do not want to deal with sick dogs. Instead, she received more love. More hugs. More belly rubs. More beef lung treats; her favorite. The Staff is amazing. Past and present employees. The facility is safe. High fences; seven feet high. Artificial turf in the backyard. Plenty of shade with overhead tents. Pools. Water spray hose to cool the dogs down. Plenty of LOVE. The biggie for me; as you walk in no smell of urine. In some facilities, you smell a stench as you open their front door. BOTTOM LINE, I TRUST DOGS AROUND AUSTIN WITH MY STELLA BLUES LIFE. PERIOD. I will say even though my dog isn't posted during all of his stays, anytime I call they are able to provide me an in time update which I love! At the end of each stay they also give out a report card, which is a nice personal touch. I cannot say enough about the staff in the front!! They are the kindest most friendly people I have ever met and they are able to answer any and all questions in a timely manner!! We discussed expectations and I thought everything would go smoothly. The first red flag was her lack of communication. Seeing as we have a puppy, we wanted to know how each visit went, specifically whether he peed/pooped. Once we gently reminded her, she began leaving notes that would occasionally be helpful, but mostly just noted how the weather was, how cute he was, how fast he's growing etc. Not exactly what we were interested in. The first MAJOR problem was when we had a friend at the house who let us know Sara arrived nearly an hour late, and only had him out for 25 minutes when we were paying her for an HOUR. Given the fact we have a puppy, timing is very important to us since he can't hold it for that long. She never notified us of a delay or the short visit, and wouldn't have refunded us if our friend hadn't been home to report the problem. Even worse, I texted her at 3:15p to ensure everything was going smoothly, to which she replied yes. Only to find out later she hadn't even arrived until 3:50p. NOT OK. After discussing these issues and spelling out what is ok, and what is not ok (blows my mind we even needed to do this) we gave her the benefit of the doubt and continued to work with her since she seemed eager to make things right. Less than a week later, my boyfriend was home sleeping, unbeknownst to Sara. She had left the note about how the walk went PRIOR to even taking him outside, and not locked the door on her way out. He then witnessed her take our puppy into the sandwich shop below our building for 15 minutes and then bring him back to the apartment. This is horrible treatment for any dog, but especially a puppy we are trying to potty train! If she does not walk him outside, she's just reinforcing that he go to the bathroom inside. So terrible! When we confronted her, she said "my schedule is dictated by customer requests and schedule changes." She went onto explain that when she has cancellations, she can walk him for longer, but if she gets additional last minute bookings, his walks get cut short. WHAT?! In what world do last minute requests trump prior bookings? THAT IS NOT WHAT WE AGREED ON BY ANY MEANS. Our puppy should be getting DAILY walks from 3-4p. If her schedule is slow and she can have him out longer, great. However, that does not mean that she can cut into our reserved time to make some more cash. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I will NEVER work with The Smiling Dog again or recommend them to any dog owners.

I told her I had already spoken to and confirmed with 2 other people that I had a reservation for my dog to stay for a few days. I picked up my dog & he was so high energy (unusual for him, unless he hasn't gotten exercise in days). He was super hungry when I got him home, & he as well as the bed I asked to leave with him were COVERED in urine! He & the bed were both freshly clean before I dropped him off (just I felt so bad I left him there. Never again!

Our flight home was cancelled even before the storm arrived, our family couldn't get downtown, we didn't know if the electricity would stick around or when we'd be back. The cats had food and water, but they've never been alone that long and who knew when we'd get back and what they could get into. I panicked. PANICKED! I couldn't get in touch with anyone in our building, I didn't know any of the neighbors. Finally I found a post Jane had made in a local group and I sent her a desperate note. She called me back so fast and made it her personal mission to track down our building's maintenance guy and get a key to my apartment. From that first call it was apparent that she was as worried about my cats as I was. And as I've gotten to know Jane, it's so plain to see that she truly loves every animal in her care. I had a first time appointment this morning for an express groom, and handed my dog off to the groomer. Minutes after he took my pup and closed the door, I could hear my dog screaming in pain - two shrieks. I know the difference between anxious barking/whining and cries when a dog is hurt. My dog cried in pain. He is an anxious dog with separation anxiety, yes, but the only time I've heard him make the noise he did was when another dog bit him and when a neighbor accidentally stepped on his foot. I've also fostered hundreds of dogs, so can tell the difference. My gut/instincts told me to just cancel on the spot and take my dog home, so I told the front desk to charge me whatever is needed and we go without the groom. My dog is 3 years old and has been groomed every 3 months for his entire life. Grooming is not new for him, plus I gave him trazodone 1.5 hours prior. I wish I could've liked this place because it's so close to home but it's not worth it when the groomer is inexperienced and abusing the dogs. I spent less than 20 minutes there but my gut instinct told me that this is not a safe or experienced place to hand off your dogs. Do NOT go here

This isn't just a "brush-and-bathe" situation; this is a doggy spa experience that makes my dog look like he's ready for his own runway show. Seriously, he's strutting around now like he's got an endorsement deal with a fancy dog food brand. Oliver walked in looking like a scruffy little mop, and 2 hours later, he emerged looking like he'd been personally styled by a celebrity groomer. I'm pretty sure if he could speak, he'd be telling me how perfect he feels. His coat is so shiny, I'm half expecting him to start catching the sunlight like a diamond. The staff is beyond friendly, and they treated Oliver like the precious floof he is. It's not every day you find a groomer who knows how to make a dog look like a million bucks without charging you an arm and a leg. Honestly, I think I might be jealous of how good he looks now. If you're looking for a place where your dog can get pampered and actually enjoy the experience, Taurus Dog Daycare is your spot. Beware, your dog will be in a crate the majority of the day…read more I took my dog here for an eval day, followed by one day of daycare. While the staff was very nice, I will not be returning based on how long they keep dogs in crates throughout the day. (I skimmed reviews ahead of time but didn't see any mention of this so I feel compelled to let others know). My dog was at daycare for almost 6 hours and I did not see him anywhere on the cameras during that time. (He is friendly and gets along with all dogs so should not have been secluded). When asking the staff how much playtime he had, they could not tell me and they estimated he was probably outside two hours total (and that maybe I just didn't see him on camera). That means the other four hours he was in a crate. This is not the norm for most daycares, as my dog has been to three other ones before and all of them allowed dogs outside of the crate at all times except for an hour mid-day around lunch for quiet time/napping. Another staff member told me the dogs have two 30-45 min breaks before and after noon naptime. So you mean to tell me if I drop by dog off at 7 AM and pick him up around 7 PM he's only being allowed outside his crate for two to three of the twelve hours? Absolutely not. Additionally, upon daycare pickup I was told because he's a pitbull mix that he classifies as a short-nosed dog and they sometimes limit playtime for dogs like that because they don't want them to overheat. This is insane to me and was not discussed ahead of time or during the eval. My dog has a ton of energy and is not prone to overheating and loves to play for hours. Lastly, the pickup and dropoff times were unacceptable. Waiting 10+ minutes with one person working the desk is unheard of. I've never been to a daycare that only allows one owner/dog inside at a time. Not even a vet's office does that! Clearly they need more staff members.
