Stopped in to grab a late breakfast around 1. The place was packed. There were only two Empty Tables when we got there. The server locked the door behind us because even though it was only 1:00 and the restaurant was supposed to be open until 2:00 they had run out of eggs, potatoes and a few other things. The server was very friendly and tried very hard to be accommodating. But she was obviously frustrated. I ordered country fried steak with a side of cheese grits. They said they were out of potatoes so they didn't have home fries but they were able to substitute french fries. Not really sure how that works since the french fries were hand-cut. It took over an hour to get the food. The country fried steak was mostly breading and very greasy. The cheese grits had a good flavor but they were cold and hard. My friend ordered Mike's big breakfast. She ordered Poached Eggs which were slimy. She also had to substitute french fries for her home fries. They were supposed to bring a half order of biscuits I'm gravy which they forgot paranoid when they did bring them out the biscuits were greasy and heavy. [[Sat.12.Aug.2023 @ 11am]] Wife & I came thru Marietta Ohio and done some shopping at the "Cooks Shop", afterwards we went next door to get some Lunch at "Tonyas Kitchen". After entering "Tonyas Kitchen" in Marietta OH., every thing seem to be fine, Atmosphere, Cleanliness and Etc. We sat down and waited for Staff to bring us a couple menu's, which that did not take long to get, maybe 3-5minutes. But, then it took a total of 40minutes for our Food that we ordered to make it to our table, the Server/Waitress apologized for it taking excessive over time for our food to make to our table. We was not the only ones waiting on food there was other customers there before we arrived that was waiting for there orders a long period of time to, plus some customers complaining outside about the terrible service and wait time. Yes, they was not at 100% on there game, but, the Food was Delicious and Cooked, Prepared correctly no problems with the Taste of the Food. Staff just needs to keep watch on time that customers enter doors so that to much time does not pass by before checking on customers, also, may be best, which ever Server/Waitress brings menu's out to customers is the Server/Waiter that should return to table to take customers order, they should not think that another Server/Waiter will check on customers to take there order. But other then that every thing else was fine, even tho there was a mess up, we still gave a tip, we all in this world have them type days where our game is off. read more

I lived in Marietta for about 10 years before moving to Virginia 5 years ago. I come back frequently to visit family; roughly every 2-3 months. When in the area, I'm always dining out; generally hitting up my favorites in the area, but sometimes giving some new spots some service. This visit we tried Tonya's Country Kitchen. Mixed reviews from the hubby, me and our youngest son. First off, the place sits in downtown Marietta on Front Street, which is near the river. It's absolutely charming downtown, adorned with hanging baskets and artsy storefronts. Tonya's Country Kitchen looks equally charming, with retro decor. When we walked in, there were signs to seat yourself. We took a seat at a table for 4 near the back. A minute or two passed, and one very rude older woman came over and slammed down menus in front of the 3 of us and silverware. I thought perhaps her face might crumble if she smiled, because it didn't look as if she had, in more than 20 years. No 'welcome', no greetings; just slam down the menus and silverware and walk away. A couple of minutes later, the waitress walks over and she did in fact have a smile, which seemed forced unfortunately. My 20 year old son ordered a chocolate milk and the steak and eggs (add cheese), which also came with home fries and toast. And the hubby and I ordered 2 unsweetened iced teas and split the Big Mike's Breakfast, which comes with 3 eggs, which we ordered scrambled, bacon or sausage (we got bacon), home fries, toast (we ordered white) and a biscuit with sausage gravy. We also ordered a side pancake. Food came out in a typical time, but wasn't hot. In fact, our eggs were cold, like someone might have cooked them first. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his breakfast, but I wasn't even slightly impressed. I thought the eggs were cold and rubbery, the bacon was thin and rubbery and the home fries were under cooked. I didn't partake of the pancake, which my husband said was really good. But I did have a half of the biscuit and the sausage gravy, which was pretty decent. Son didn't like any of his breakfast and wasted most. The only thing this place has going for it is location and decor. The service was awful and the food was lacking. Was not impressed. Though the restaurant is prime located in downtown Marietta ! The food was just not as home cooking as I would have liked. My chicken tasted like rubber. Stopped here on our way back to Indiana. Cute setup but we were not impressed with the food. I ordered a grilled cheese and for a dollar more upgraded to onion rings instead of French fries. It came and the cheese was not even melted on my Texas toast. I only got six small onion rings. They were small at that. For a dollar more I expected more than six! Part of them were cold where they weren't cooked long enough. My husband got country fried steak. It wasn't good and warm either. It was also a tiny piece of meat. Best hamburger and fries I have had in a long time. Only complaint was our service. We had been out shopping all day. Only one server and 5 tables were full. One table had 6. My sons and I stopped there and ate today. I just ordered a grilled cheese and french fries. The fries were very good. The grilled cheese not so much. One bite was all I could manage. The cheese tasted off and didn't seem very melted. My oldest son had the meatloaf and my youngest had chicken strips. They cleaned their plates and said it was good. Our waitress, Sherry, was so sweet! I couldn't have asked for better service from her. This is a great little diner downtown. Spoiler get the pie. My husband and I love Marietta and try to stop by when ever we visit family up north. I wanted classic American diner and this was it. I had the country fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, and corn. The country fried steak was perfect. I could cut it with a fork and it was melt in your mouth. I would definitely recommend it. The mashed potatoes were subpar but the corn was great. My husband had the liver and onions with mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. He said they were above average when it comes to liver and onion which I take as a win. We also got a slice of peanut butter pie for dessert and it was PHENOMENAL. I love pie and they delivered. Their pie crust was amazing and I don't normally eat the rim of it but they had me licking the plate. Next time we come through I will probable get a whole pie. read more

My husband's meal was about the same dry and no flavor, canned corn and instant potatoes with no flavor gravy. We also made the mistake of ordering pie. My mom ordered the breakfast sandwich (croissant) with sausage and egg -- she indicated the sandwich "tasted funny" she began to narrow down exactly what was wrong -- ended up that the croissant was very old - tasted "moldy".
