We had our wedding here July 4, 2009. It was honestly the best day of our lives. And every guest we…read moretalked to said it was the best/funnest wedding they had ever been to. First, the setting is breathtaking: gorgeous green pine tree forest surrounding the wedding ceremony site, mountains in the background, perfect weather (mid-80s all day, and no wind) and the beautiful wedding village, Pinegri-La. Pinegri-La has 5 cabins that can sleep from 6 to 12 people, depending on the cabin, as well as a camping area. We had 50 guests stay onsite in cabins and camp. The rest of our guests, stayed at the Dunsmuir Lodge and Railroad Park, which are about a half hour away. We came up Thursday night and spent the weekend with our friends and family. Everyone had a great time walking to nearby swimming holes and alpine lakes. At night, we would barbecue and roast S'mores and talk into the late hours over the campfire. We had our rehearsal dinner/bbq Friday night, and Beth and John pulled if off without a hitch. The food was great, and the setting was perfect. On the wedding day, guests went for hikes while my bridesmaids and I got ready in Pinegri-La's bridal dressing room (very cute room with comfy couches and mirrors). The ceremony was beautiful! I can't say enough about how beautiful this ceremony site is--the most beautiful wedding site I've ever seen -- and I'm not just saying that cause it was my wedding. For the dinner, the food was perfect -- very delicious and on time and fresh and hot! Beth and John (the owners) and their staff do a wonderful job. We had about 140 guests, and they handled it perfectly. They also had someone in the nearby town make the cake, and it was delicious and beautiful too. Then we danced until we wanted (no curfew!) All our guests -- old and young alike -- said it was the funnest wedding they had ever been to. The only downside to this location is that it is a half-hour drive up a winding mountain roud. But, it is paved all the way, and no one seemed to complain about it. All in all, it was the best day of our lives, and we were very sad when it was all over....

The next day I emailed them about a discrepancy in pricing...the file folder John gave us in person contained a higher price for guest lodging than I had already seen. I assumed prices increased for 2011 but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask if they would still honor the current pricing. That's when things got weird. I made the mistake of saying I saw the lower prices on their website (I later realized they were on a 2010 PDF attachment Beth emailed me awhile back). Apparently, John couldn't get past this small detail and got super-defensive about his website. For some reason he thought I was accusing him of false advertising and, in my opinion, totally over-reacted. He thought this wasn't the start of a "trusting relationship", and dismissed us abruptly by wishing us good luck in the future. I apologized for putting him on the defense and tried to explain that it wasn't my intention. I never felt we were being mislead by them in any way. I asked him to please think things over and re-read my initial email. He said he didn't think his feelings would change. In the end, I'm happy this happened before booking the site. After much reflection, there is no way we would want to enter into a contract with such an unreasonable person. He sure does seem nice and laid-back, but obviously has some issues.

Cindy opened the Guest House to us and it was amazing. We spent every evening on the porch looking at Mt Shasta, smelling the pines and one evening watching a bear lumber down the driveway. Breakfast was served at the McCloud Hotel. We placed our order the night before and the meals were made to order, on time, a perfect portion and very delicious. Sight seeing, around the area, was really fun. We fished, played golf at the McCloud golf course, swam in the river, took drives and saw where family had lived. Cindy has pleasant staff and we enjoyed chatting with Nicole. This is an out of the way and beautiful part of California. I strongly suggest the Guest House or the McCloud Hotel.

We stayed in Cabin #5 for 4 days and 3 nights. On our first day, the room was clean for the most…read morepart except for the toilet paper having small brown streaks on it... Chose not to report it to the owner as it was a minor issue. On the second day, we were in the room around 5:30 PM and noticed our door knob moving. We checked the window and noticed it was a shirtless man trying to open our door. We loudly said, "excuse me what are you doing?" and the man walked away. We texted the owner about this incident and asked if they could have this checked out. The owner responded by saying, "It was very likely another guest confused at which cabin was his. The area around the lodge is extremely safe." No indication that they took the time to review camera footage or checked out the area. We later confirmed ourselves that the man was a guest in the room next to us as he was outside next to his room. Later that same day, we were about to leave the room again and noticed that a key was placed on the #5 outside our door. We checked the key and confirmed that it works to unlock and lock our door. We were never informed that another key would be placed outside our door and we do not know how long it was sitting there. Anyone could have saw the key and used it to open our cabin. We immediately notified the owner and their response was that their staff was onsite to service other cabins and may have grabbed an extra key to our cabin. Owner didn't seem to care that an extra key was available to anyone who walked by our cabin. We expressed that we were concerned for our safety, but the owner didn't show that they cared about an extra key just lying around for anyone to grab.

Upon arrival I had chocolate, wine and coffee waiting for me as gifts from the host. The host, Mark Juarez appeared very shortly to make sure I had everything and show me how to use the French press he very kindly left in the room. He also brought in an electric kettle for my use. Mark is a very kind host. He shared some history of the building and town, and I was even invited to a midnight show of "Beetlejuice" in the theatre directly across the street ( my stay was the evening before Halloween). My room was old but everything was fresh and the room was clean. The WiFi worked. Yes, the train is close by and you can hear it. But in my opinion it adds to the old timey charm of the hotel and the town. The town itself is picture postcard perfect. It looked like a set for a film about fall. If you to stay here, there is a wonderful dinner restaurant called Cafe Maddalena just steps from the place. Travel is about adventure. So if you are traveling in the area-stay here in the spirit of adventure! You might even run into a ghost.

When I arrived to my room, I was horrified that it had not been cleaned before my arrival. There were gross stains on the bed sheets , trash full of hair and who knows what else, dirty dishes, and dirty towels. There was no one on site and no one responded to my messages. I got a refund from Airbnb immediately (they saw the pictures I documented and sent to them and said that was cause alone for an immediate refund) and left to go find another hotel at 11 pm. Do not waste your time - this place is unhygienic which is even more absurd during the pandemic.
