I don't say this lightly, this is one of the best Thai spots in California. You can tell right away this isn't some generic version of Thai food made to please everyone. The flavors are real. I was very impressed when I first walked in, ambiance was very nice and clean with beautiful decorations and the restroom was super clean and smell so good. The owner was very kind and friendly, not to mention about their foods, the shrimp cake so delicious. The foods were big portion size totally worth the price. We tried three dishes and overall had a really enjoyable meal. The drunken noodles were flavorful with a nice balance of savory and spice, and the noodles had a great texture without being greasy. The crab fried rice was fragrant and well-seasoned, with generous pieces of crab mixed throughout, making it a standout. I first ordered Tong Thai from Door dash and I have to say their food is excellent. The Pad Thai portion was generous, some of the best Ive had and the Chicken Satay was delicious and well cooked. I went in to Tong Thai to place a to go order because I could not get ahold of them by phone. The Service was not good, and a family that came in after me was served their dishes first. I had mentioned it to the gentleman at the counter and said they were waiting for the Chicken Satay....Just didn't feel the CS was really good. When I got home to eat the food, the Chicken Satay was not cooked all the way, so I did not eat the other 3 skewers. Not sure if ill be returning to Tong Thai or not based on the CS and them not answering their phone, even after I tried calling twice! read more

Four of us had lunch here recently. I strongly agree with the reviewers who say service here is very welcoming and friendly. I had Pumpkin Curry with vegetables (extra veg in place of a meat). The veg selection was decent enough, though there was not much pumpkin to speak of for the extra price (compared to their regular curries). The curry sauce was also disappointing, as I found it very, very sweet, making it impossible to taste other flavors. I had brown rice instead of jasmine, which turned out to be an interesting blend of several different rice varieties. My husband had Drunken Noodle with vegetables. He felt the noodles were cooked perfectly, but wished it had a bit more veggies. He found the balance of the garlic sauce's sweetness and spiciness just right. Everyone found the spice level accurate, with 3 (on a 1-5 scale) providing a significant amount of heat, but not too much. Prices are a bit higher than a couple of other local Thai places we frequent. It was a good lunch overall, though I think the others in my party enjoyed the food more than I did. read more

Two words.. FOOD. COMA. Tong Thai Bistro is a hidden gem in Folsom, known for their large portions and quality authentic Thai dishes. The menu is full of fan favorites from pad thai, khao soi, pork belly, to the beloved mango sticky rice. Beef noodle soup- Incredibly aromatic, light beefy broth not quite as heavy as boat noodles. The beef was tender and paired nicely with the chewy rice noodles. The portion was absolutely massive. I have never seen such a large and heavy bowl. I would definitely order it again. Samosa - The pastry itself was buttery and delicate. The filling had a strong curry flavor with potatoes and vegetables. The sweet chili sauce on the side was a great tangy punch. Crispy pork belly- This was a great appetizer but the sauce from the samosa paired better with the meat in my opinion. If they could put two different accompanying sauces with this dish, it could be even better. The sweet chili sauce adds a tangy bright flavor while the soy sauce just adds umami. Mango sticky rice- The coconut cream sauce is thick, rich and both sweet and salty. The sticky rice is chewy and soft. Although it wasn't mango season, the mango was sweet. What a perfect way to finish off the meal. Highly recommend. What stands out about Tong Thai Bistro is the hospitality. The workers are so friendly, down to earth, and kind. Their warmth and service really reminds me of being back in Thailand. We ordered 5 dishes for about $80 total which is really good for the amount of food we got. Second time here. This restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking out front. The servers are super nice and attentive. My husband orders the tofu curry and rice. It was a generous bowl of curry and very good flavors but could have been a bit thicker. It was quite thin but still good. I ordered the pad Thai. Again, a very generous portion. It was good. A bit oily but very nice flavor. We also ordered the samosas that were absolutely delicious and piping hot. They came with sweet chili sauce. I have to travel 45 minutes to eat at Tong Thai and I gladly make the trip every time with my family since it has become our favorite Thai institution near Sacramento. Yes there are many good and great Thai restaurants in Sac too but Tong Thai is special because the owners make this experience exceptional as well as the authentic nature of everything we have ordered so far. It literally takes us back to our trip in 2019. I am a Pad Kra Prow fiend especially with deep fried eggs and fried rice so that is my favorite followed by green papaya salad, pad Thai and crispy duck fried rice. I found this place on my way to work. The vibe is nice relaxing and beautiful the staff are super nice and helpful with the menu. I ordered the Pad See Ew with beef (mild spice), and it was perfect--the noodles were tender, the beef was flavorful, and the mild spice level added just the right kick without overpowering the dish. My girlfriend had the Pad Thai with chicken, which was just as delicious, with that perfect balance of tangy, sweet, and savory. We also split the crispy pork belly, which was rich, tender, and had the most satisfying crunch. What truly made the experience unforgettable, though, was Romlan, who gave us some of the best customer service we've ever had. He was incredibly personable, upbeat, and made us feel so welcome. I was really craving Thai and we tried this spot for the high ratings. My husband and I ordered the chicken pad thai, chicken drunken noodles and fresh spring rolls. Pad thai- no complaints. I felt everything was cooked to perfection with all the right amount of flavor and spice. Drunken noodles- the chicken was a little tough but I enjoyed the amount of veggies present. I do wish there was a tad more noodles though. Overall, a great dish. Spring rolls- I wasn't a fan of the lettuce being almost like a lettuce wrap on two of the pieces; I wish they were all cohesive and the same portions in all. All the other reviews about the service are true. He didn't have something on the menu (it was taken off a while ago due to unpopularity but pic is still on yelp) and he didn't have to, but he offered me two Thai teas on the house. Thai tea was cold, creamy, sweet and refreshing on a warm evening. So to the food! Fair notice: I ordered Togo and then had to go to the Sacramento airport and then back to Placerville where I live. Kiddo and I ate most of the appetizers on the way to the airport but the salad and curry was after we got home to Placerville. I'm sure taste/ texture would be better if dishes were eaten immediately. Samosas: Delicious. No real notes. Has a nice bold flavor. Crust was a little soggy because it was being steamed in the paper box until we ate it on the road. But flakey and I'm sure crispy if eaten immediately or reheated in the air fryer. Would absolutely order again. Shrimp donut: Warm and crispy (if eaten immediately). Air-fried it at home and it had a nice crisp bite. Good taste. Wouldn't order it again but I see why it's popular and recommended. Pork belly: Much better when I reheated it at home. I liked this sauce better than the sweet and sour they give with the shrimp and samosa appetizers but wished there was acid. A lot of their dipping sauces come off sweet. I sprinkled more salt at home and ate it with fresh herbs, pickled Veggies and sticky rice. Chicken satay: Juicy chunks of skewered chicken. Very tasty and would totally order again. Larb pork: BD loves his Larb. Unfortunately he ate this two hours after I picked it up so that might have changed the taste or texture a bit. Fresh is probably better. He said he enjoyed the taste of Tong Thai's larb, but I don't know how they get their ground pork, if they grind it themselves, or order it . Please be aware that There were hard pieces of either cartilage or bone in his dish so I'm not sure if he would order it again. Yellow curry was nice and thick. Loved the flavors, would order it spicier next time and would love to try their other curries too. This place is six minutes away from the kiddo's soccer field where he practices 3 times a week. But Tong Thai is at the top of my list-- and so consistent! I've had the green curry, the cashew tofu, the chicken potstickers, the pad Thai with fried chicken, and the fresh spring rolls. The lunch specials are generous portions. They have the BEST chili oil. I am somewhat of a chili oil connoisseur. And the amount of umami balanced with sweetness is so nice. And it's not too spicy, so I can use a lot of it. I add the pickled peppers or chili paste if I am in the mood for a spicier sauce. It is a small restaurant, and they provide sit-down service (not "take a number"), but you can always approach the counter if you need anything urgently. The servers are always so friendly and respond to requests promptly. Seriously, they are so nice and clearly care about making it a good experience. Location: Conveniently located next to Raley's, parking is easy Ambiance: Fairly small inside, but it is clean and has cute decor Service: Always friendly and helpful, even when they are really busy. Easy to make a phone order or come in and get service. Sometimes there is a line waiting to pay or pick up during peak hours, but they are always polite and appreciative for customers' patience. Food My go-to order here is: Crab wontons "Boms" (newer on the menu)-- 6 crispy wontons filled with cream cheese and crab, they are delicious and flavor is really balanced. Served with a nice sweet and sour sauce. Pad Thai w/ Tofu- always delicious, their sauce is amazing. Rich with peanut flavor, and their tofu is cooked perfectly- slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside Pad See-Ew- another great noodle dish. The soy based sauce is just sweet enough and packed with flavor. Noodles are always cooked perfectly, served with a good ratio of broccoli and carrot to compliment the tofu. Their spice level runs pretty average-- I'm a bit of a wimp so I tend to run on the side of mild-moderate and I order a level 1 here (I have tried a 2 a few times and its just a little bit too spicy for me). I love Thai food, but tend to order my favorite dishes on repeat. If pumpkin curry is on the menu, I will be ordering it with prawns. my husband will probably order the pad thai. But not today. We vowed to order at least one dish that was new to us at Tong Thai. We shared spring rolls, pork larb and duck fried rice. The rice was the "new to us" dish and it was so flavorful! We will definitely order it again in the future. The spring rolls and larb were so fresh and tasty. The service was prompt, helpful and very friendly. The restaurant is small but very clean and pleasant. As soon as you walk in you can't help but notice the delicious aroma of complex spices and fresh ingredients. What a hidden gem of a restaurant!! We found this place here on Yelp and it was sooo good! The food is so authentic and made with so much detail. The service is exceptional!! Romlan is so sweet. He seated us, took our order, made suggestions and just went above and beyond. Smiling the entire time! It's rare to find a place these days that has good service let alone great service like Romlan gives here. The place was half full so our party of 4 got seated quickly. The restaurant is very nice inside with painted pictures of Thailand on the walls. The food was delicious! We got pineapple curry, pad Thai, tom yum soup and a few others.
