Stopped here on our way home from Starved Rock Park. Overall it was a great stop. It did take a while to get served it seemed most of the team was focused on the people in the drive thru not people walking in. Once we finally got to order and got our orders it was fantastic. During my brief visit to Ottawa, I was told Tone's Cones was the place to be on a hot summer's night. Long lines awaited us in both the drive thru and walk up so we decided to stay in the AC while we waited for our turn to order. It wasn't long before an employee was walking up to the car asking what we wanted. As a visitor that had never been to this place before I was hoping to see a menu before ordering. I asked for another minute, scrambled for a menu online, and was still looking when the employee returned less than a minute later to retrieve my order. I ended up just getting a basic cone with sprinkles. As my stars indicate it was A-OK. Not better or worse than a classic Dairy Queen. I think I might have appreciated more of the charm of this local joint if it 1) wasn't so crowded, 2) wasn't during the time of COVID, and 3) I had a chance to peruse and choose. read more

Great, old-timey, no frills ice cream stand! We doesn't the day with the kids hiking at at Starved Rock and stopped by. There was a long drive-thru line but the walk up was only 4 orders deep. The group behind the counter worked like a well-oiled machine. It was great to watch. You can tell the employees cared about the success of the business. Keep it going! Recently I strolled in for a elective banana split memorial "dinner" it was a the request of a family who's little boy passed as a result of CHD. I after a day at the pool I took my daughter and her friend in to partake in this memorial. I go here occasionally & they have many items on their menu; ice cream & fast food galore. It is a mom & pop store & is an employer for high school kids. Their prices are about average. I usually go through the drive-through but there is a small area to eat inside as well as a few outdoor picnic tables. As far as desired items, it would be great if they had a non-dairy ice cream option as I do not eat a lot of dairy & would love to see a non-dairy option or two. Parking is an issue during the summer & weekends. Cars back up into the street & this area can be dangerous. Please watch for pedestrians & impatient drivers. read more

My friends and I were so excited to get ice cream after a long day of hiking and we decided to stop at Tones cones for our first time. We went through the drive through and ordered our ice cream. Once we were ready to pay we were told they only took cash. We were not informed of this when we first ordered. They then proceeded to tell us they already started our ice cream and forced us to take it. We no longer wanted our ice cream because we could not pay for it but they told us our only option was to give them our ID and run to an atm to get cash for them or else the police would be called on us.
