On a cross-country trip hauling a travel trailer, our brakes went out and our wheels locked up. Unfortunately, it was a holiday (Labor Day) and there were no repair shops open. We left messages at several places and then left our truck at Tom's waiting for the shop to open. By the way, we never received a return phone call from any of the other shops in Bozeman! Coming off the holiday weekend Tom's was pretty booked with usual customer repairs. TJ said he would do his best to look at it by the end of the day. Sure enough we got a call saying that we needed new calipers, rotors and brake pads at the end of the day. He said it would be ready by the end of day the next day. Fortunately, it was finished by noon the next day and we were on our way to continue our trip. This is a quality business that we would highly recommend. I can see why they have great reviews and why there is a waitlist currently to get in. They provide exceptional customer service! We brought our niece's car there, as she is in school in that area and was having engine problems with her Lexus. They checked it out and thought it would be best to have it seen at the Toyota specialty shop down the road. Tom's is the rare auto shop that is honest and doesn't over charge. I drove up from San Diego to bring my niece a new vehicle. I only had a few days in Bozeman then back to San Diego. My niece had an older model Lexus was having engine trouble and the Lexus dealer quoted an unreasonable price to fix. As a young female and college student we knew exactly what happened which is why we got involved and found Tom's online. We scheduled a drop off at Tom's since they were booked over a month out. As busy as they were they inspected the Lexus within 2 weeks and when they realized it might need a shop that specialized in Lexus vehicles they drove it over to the other shop for us since I had already flown back to SD. My right headlight went out and I called around town trying to find someone to replace it. Most places were telling me they were scheduling 4 weeks out. I called Tom's and they said they were busy as well but if I dropped my car off for a few hours they would fit it during the day. I also needed to get my snow tires put on the car so I threw them in on the off chance they could also put those on. When I arrived to drop off they were very friendly and said they would do their best to try to get the tires swapped as well. Came back later in the day and they had fixed my headlight and swapped my tires! I would highly recommend and I will return any time I need work performed. Great customer service! read more

I drive from Central Oregon to take my truck to this shop. In 3 yrs I've had alignment work, and a complete Old Man Emu suspension install by TJ and his crew. My dad has been going to Tom's alignment for over 30 yrs, when TJ's dad ran the business and we have received the same quality and customer service from day one. I strive to find experts when I don't have the expertise to do it myself. I had several people I trust lead me to an alignment expert in Bend, OR where I was told that my alignment was good, but my lower control arms needed replacement. A $1200 job. I left that shop with data sheets, a screwed up alignment job, a bill and a quote for more work. I immediately called TJ. I was expecting TJ to have to replace the lower control arms. His crew got into the job while replacing my suspension and found nothing wrong with the lower control arms. WORKING WITH TOMS ALIGNMENT SAVED ME $1200! This is by far the best experience I've ever had with a mechanic. As a young woman who is used to being talked down to at auto shops, my experience here was SO refreshing-- TJ and the crew talked to me with respect and explained things clearly, and charged me very fair prices for the work they did on my car. For a tire alignment, drive shaft replacement, safety check and labor costs combined, it cost me less than 2 other shops quoted me for the drive shaft replacement alone. TJ even texted a couple days after the repairs to make sure everything was running smoothly-- and when I was concerned about a weird sound, he checked it out that day for no cost at all! As a woman, I often get highballed or ignored at car shops, which is irritating. The folks at Tom's have always treated me normally, never overcharged me, and they're just plain nice. Once I took my car in for a leaky headgasket and when they looked at it and decided they couldn't fix it in house, they not only called another mechanic for me but didn't charge me for their time! When I tried to pay TJ said "No way, all I did was give you bad news and nobody pays me for that".
