This has been a local spot for me forever. I would come here after middle school. Finally revisiting this place after years and it looks so different inside. It looks more modern and updated now. The people were friendly and quick to make the food. Usually, I stick with the gyro, but the Italian beef was the choice today. I was happy that I tried something new. Oh boy have you guys really changed. Can't afford to eat out anymore with your prices here. You used to have reasonable family friendly meals but now I can't believe it. I litterly walked in and out and visited a competitor got 2 baby beef sandwiches 2 hot dogs order of fries 2 orders of Greek potatoes and 3 cans of soda for less than 25.00. I heard about this restaurant on Chicago talk radio station WRMN 1410AM in Elgin, Il. So I stopped by there today on way to a doctors appointment in OakBrook. The place is small, situated in the middle of a strip mall, but it's very clean and the food is served quickly. There are no tables just some stools and a counter that runs along the length of the wall. I ate standing up at the counter, which was fine. We like the Gyros because they cut the meat & put it on the grill... so if you like the slightly browned crunchy bit texture this is it! Went to pick up lunch here today as my daughter and son in law just bought a house down the road. The 1st two items on the bag that they wrote your order on were 1. Incorrect...2 hot dogs m & o, the BLT was never put in the bag. We called about the missing BLT and immediately were told to remind them next time We told them that the person in out lunch party wanted their sandwich and we were coming back to get it. We never mentioned the hot dogs being dressed wrong . When the sandwich was brought home it had been made with the HEEL OF THE PUMPERNICKLE BREAD LOAF. Who ever heard of a decent restaurant serving a sandwich made from the heels of the bread let alone I never asked for the sandwich on pumpernickle or dark rye bread. I've come here 3 times in June of 2020, and have been a bit happier with the food and quality. Some items are still on the pricier side, so it's best to maybe get your favorite item on the certain days where it is the 'special' and is a little cheaper. On a Tuesday, I ordered a beef and fries. Both were very good, but the total came to over $12 which I feel is just a bit pricey. (*Certain days the beef/fry combo is cheaper by about $1 or so, so I will give them that). I come here regularly mostly during summer months, and will be back. Everything has been pretty good here. The Italian sub was "decent", but not something I'd get regularly. Burgers, beefs, hotdogs, and polish are all pretty good, fries are great. As noted, some things are just a bit pricey. read more

This place is fantastic. The service is quick and the menus is very big. The 2 hotdog deal is an absolute steal. Tamales are also amazing.

The 2 hot dog special runs $6 for 2 ok tasting dogs, fries and a medium drink. The fries were the frozen kind you buy at the store but even so were actually pretty good. The hot dogs weren't anything to write home about but for the price you really can't beat that. We've also had a gyro from here and that was really tasty. Dont go here for bbq ribs, the meat i got was spoiled and rotting. VERY unhappy. Also: The Tommy Burger... the hired help didn't know what it was - or how to make it. WETTEST BURGER I have ever tried to eat! We were lucky we had a towel in the car; even with a foam container, it totally soaked the bottom of the bag and KEPT DRIPPING WHEN I PICKED IT OUT OF THE CONTAINER. Never seen anything quite like it. They still have decent fries, but eventually they'll probably figure out how to mess that up too. Tommy's Red Hots is the best Chicago Hot dog joint in Chicago and nothing beats it! But I will tell you, they also have the best Italian beef in Chicago. I've been coming here for more than 10 years and the food has always been good. Not expensive at all. The reason for the 1 star is the service. Terrible terrible terrible service. Although I am not Mexican I understand Spanish and the bad words I do know and I hear them when I come here. Usually it's the one guy that's been there forever and random other people. I'm guessing the angry guy there trains his staff to be angry and hostile. Did not have a good experience with the Glendale Heights location. On the plus side the fries were excellent, on the downside the bun wasn't soft and the hot dog itself seemed a little overcooked to where a lot of the juices had been lost. The condiment application was a little too heavy on mustard and onions. The fries were the redeemer earning Tommy's two rather than one star. read more

STAY AWAY!!!! HEALTH HAZARDS!!! So I went in here today, a place I've gone to since 1992, and I'll never go back. I walked in, went up to the order part of the counter and I heard sneezing, looked over and saw one of the cooks (Asian guy, bald, 30's-40's) looking in the freezers under the counter sneezing half into his gloves, half into the freezer. About as cut and dry as a hot dog shop can get. The place where customers are allowed to stand is about 4 feet wide and maybe 30 feet deep (aka its pretty cramped at lunch time). There are about 12 bar stools in the back that you can sit at if you dont mind getting cozy with a construction worker or cop (I just paid all my parking tickets). I'm a sucker for the hot dog special (2 hot dogs and fries). The lettuce is crisp if you like it on your hot dogs (mmmmm, sorry its an inside joke from when I was a hotdog virgin new to IL). Been coming here for probably over 20 years. It's the best! I love the gyros, so big and meaty and the sauce is super yummy. The fries are amazing and, though prices have gotten a bit high, they do have some good deals. The staff is almost always super friendly and they work so fast. I have been coming here to Tommy's for years. It's always been better than most places. Today however has been the deciding vote to never come back until things get better again. We had been craving anything other than Christmas leftovers and decided that gyros sounded perfect. They were far from it. The meat was cut a double thickness that made it extremely tough. The hot dogs are always lukewarm to cold and if you order the mushrooms please check them before leaving because often times they get overcooked and all you get is a burnt shell. It's pretty sad to see such a local favorite nosedive so bad. They complain that the business has slowed down but sadly it's because the quality of food has gone down while prices have increased. For the past few years I have had to stand there and watch them make my food to insure it gets done right and I have known 2 of these guys for years. To see them not caring about what they serve clearly tells me that they are either bored with their job or that the owners are treating them so badly they are taking it out on the customers. I normally like extra meat on my gyro but not double thick. It was just disgusting. A few visits back they overcharged me for food & when I called they assured me to fix it next visit, well needless to say they didn't and that stopped us from returning for a good six months. After today we will be searching for a new place to get a gyro and continue to go elsewhere for hot dogs. Like I said, it's very sad to see a local favorite start to fail but they continue to fail. I hope they get better in the new year. I would hate to see them gone completely because Glendale Heights needs small businesses like this. Fingers crossed for a better product in the New Year. Tommy's, what can I say? Been going there for years and the food is decent but sliding. For service, make sure to check your order before you leave. Sometimes, they tend forget things. Also, their prices are always changing. Changing as in going up. I have five fairly new menus at home, all with different prices. Sometimes it feels like every time you go, they went up. Also, don't take away portions in a dinner and charge the same price like nothing changed like the fish n' chips. Not good. All in all, I miss my old Tommy's. Probably will pass on it for now and go somewhere else. read more

Tasted so gross Place was filthy and ketchup was dried between the wall and the eating tables. Filthy Asked the staff to use the restroom and they said they didn't have one. From their legendary 2 Hot Dog special to all their other daily specials, Tommy's knows how to do it and has been THE burger/beef/dog joint in Glendale Heights for a long time.
