There are two open gyms - one with 4 courts for beginners and intermediate players and the other with 3 courts for advanced players. In addition to drop-ins, free beginners clinics are also provided on Fridays between 8:30 am and 10 am. These helpful clinics are conducted by advanced player volunteers and they are very beneficial for those who are interested in learning to play pickleball for the first time. Pickleball is offered indoor at Bohrer Activity Center during Fall, Winter and Spring sessions. For the summer months, it is moved outdoor to Diamond Farms Park, Gaithersburg. For each indoor session, there is a fee of $3 for Gaithersburg residents and $4 for non-residents for participating in the drop-ins and clinics which is a good deal when compared to other indoor court time or activities. There is no fee for outdoor sessions however. So beginners will get free clinics outdoor on Fridays. So for those who are interested in the fastest growing sports in U.S., we are fortunate to have this facility with venues for all levels of skills nearby. Located in the Fallsgrove area, the community center is both convenient to my office and a very affordable gym option. The facilities (all brand new) include a big basketball court, a ping-pong room, a fitness room with weight and cardio machines, a playground outside for the kiddies, a community garden that's starting to grow, and a few rooms for classes/events. And, the building was built with many sustainable features (i.e. geothermal heating, locally sourced materials, efficient water faucets) I've been a fitness member for a while which means I can access the fitness room whenever the center is open. On top of that I take a weekly kickboxing class that is a lot of fun (but also kicks my butt.) I really like that I can take as many or as few classes as I want and just pay for what I actually use through the Parks & Rec department. At typical membership gyms, you pay an inflated fee to pay for all these classes you don't even go to and all the personal trainers to annoy you to take a training session and all the sales people to haggle with you over an extra $5 off the 'joining fee'. Here you can pay a flat rate and get access for a month, 3 months, 6 months, or a year. And there is a discount if you're a resident of Rockville. The community center also has community events like basketball tournaments, festivals for kids, teen movie nights, and other family oriented things that are a nice addition to the area. I haven't tried these out as I don't play basketball, am not a kid nor am I a teen but they look like fun family functions. Overall I highly recommend TFCC and am very satisfied, especially since I don't have to commit to a membership gym!

They listened to my issues and helped try to rectify the problems so that my sons could learn to their best ability and the best environment. Specifically, Coach Patrizio and Coach Richard are great instructors that take their time to instruct and encourage their students. My older son always comes away with new forms to learn and master. Although there are a couple of other students in his group lesson, my son expressed that he feels like it's a private lesson because of all the attention and instruction he receives. My younger son (age 6) has Coach Eleni, and she makes the lessons so exciting and fun that my son doesn't even think of it as a lesson but a fun time with her and the other new made friends. He is definitely getting the gist of tennis without feeling the pressure of learning but having fun. We ran into Coach Jack a handful of times, and he always took the time to check in and inquire how the kids were doing. He definitely seems available if we needed to correspond with him. We hope to continue our lessons with these instructors at the Tennisplex and advance in the game.

There is a tennis court that no one was using, a huge gazebo with eight picnic tables which I think can be rented out for parties, although I did not see a grilling area, and a great play area for little ones. There is also a baseball field (not pictured) which I think is used for softball games. What's really interesting is the history of this place I learned after visiting. It is named after the founder Edward Johnson, a local black entrepreneur that owned a tavern nearby. It was built in1947 and Black Baseball sandlot teams played here when they weren't allowed on whites only fields in the 40s and 50s. Players that played here include Willie Mays, Roy Campanella, and Satchel Paige. Who knew this little park had such a history!

I had to check out tennistopia, and I do remember their ads on the back of tennis magazines like 6 or 7 yrs ago. First impression, it's clean, very modern, bright, and organized. I like the looks of it. No one came up to me and harass me, I like that. Quickly I realized they do not carry a lot of products or brands. I noticed they mostly carry babolat and wilson racquets, some head and prince. If I was looking for PK, volkl, asics, gamma racquets, I would be out of luck here. Still for the major brands, they have mostly the pro series. Shoes wise, the same thing there as well, mostly player's model. I don't buy crazy overpriced nylon shirts and shorts, so I did not noticed much of their selections. What I like is that this store is a fresh breeze of air from holabird, friendly staff, well organize. They don't have a crazy owner who runs up to me and harass me like holabird. They have a decent lot of used racquet for sale. Their sales selection have really steep discount. What I am not a fan of is the limited selections on racquet and shoes models. Their stringing price is pretty high. Maybe it's the rich MoCo where $22 for labor is the norm, compared to us poor baltimorean who are expecting $12-16. Good thing I string my own...

Unfortunately, that was a huge mistake. The hot tub water looked disgusting I didn't even realize how bad it was until I put my feet out . It was cloudy and dirty, and I almost threw up when I saw it up close. To make things worse, a member even told me I should've washed up before using it something that clearly isn't being enforced, given the condition of that water. I ended up leaving right away and even took a picture because it was that bad. Now my foot has been itching ever since, and I'm honestly concerned it might be a reaction or even a fungus. This was beyond disappointing for a gym that charges premium rates. I really hope management takes better care of their facilities because this was unacceptable.
