Tombstone Sarsparilla - a person holding a box of beer - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Tombstone, Arizona

For me, it's been a tradition to visit Tombstone once a year around the fall season. However, what had alluded me for so many years has been to make a stop here to get a bottle of sarsparilla. In the past, I'd be heading back to my car parked near the Tombstone courthouse and about to hit the road and I'd think about getting a bottle of sarsparilla but stop myself because I'd be making a drive to Bisbee or back to Tucson and figured I didn't want to drink anything and then have to make a stop for the bathroom. Well, this year I decided to get a bottle and have a drink anyway. Let me say, the first thing that happened when that sweet sarsparilla hit my tongue was getting washed over with nearly 15 years of regret because that's how long I been brushing this place off. From now on going forward, I'm going to get myself a bottle to have while I'm strolling up and down Fremont St. It turns out they also ship their product so they make a great gift to those who aren't able to visit and experience this part of the old West. Definitely make a stop here when you're visiting Tombstone! read more

The owners are super friendly and chatted it up with us. The sarsaparilla Was refreshing and we even brought some back to California. Must do when in Tombstone. read more

Tombstone Sarsparilla - a golf cart parked in front of a store - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Tombstone, Arizona

Yelp did it again! I was on the top row of the high noon reenactment of rhe OK corral shootout. I turned around and there it was across the street! A sign, an omen, a coincidence? It said "the best rootbeer in the West"! I thought to myself well it's the best or they couldn't possibly advertise that! ;-) So after reading the reviews I was even more interested in trying this. It's flat root beer! Never tried that before and I thought that would be cool. A non- burping soda experience!? This stuff was really tasty and after trying this style it's unclear why any soda would be bubbly. Tastes like Stuart's root beer with MUCH smoother and stronger flavor. Absolutely delicious and I bought a 4 pack. Each bottle commemorates 1 of 4 of the historical figures as seen in the picture below. Screw tops can go back on and since flat can be saved for later. This was so refreshing and a perfect end cap for my 1st tombstone experience. read more

"The Rootbeer of the Old West" Sooo good! Afternoon, just got off a stagecoach and walking around Tombstone pretty thirsty. I saw Johnny One Dog standing behind the counter of a barn-like building. A big sign above him said sarsparilla and I actually came to Tombstone intending to find a good place to get one. I walked up, slammed my hand down on the wood counter, "Sarsparilla!" He laughed and said that I wouldn't regret it and that it was the best Sarsparilla in town. Danged if he wasn't right! At $2.50 a bottle, I downed one of the ice-cold bottles and then bought 5 more - a few to take home and drink and a few as souvenirs to share because it was so good. Plus the bottles were awesome souvenirs - the "gunfighter collection". I bought a bottled water there too. I tried sarsparilla at a few other places around town, but there was something about his that made it better. He was really friendly and it was fun talking to him. If you are in Tombstone, you MUST stop by his stand (across from the park on 3rd street between Allen and Fremont). Tell him Adriana from Los Angeles sent you ;) "Justice is coming but Tombstone Sarsparilla is here!" read more

OMG! I have tried at least twenty different sarsaparilla over the years and this brand was hands down the best I have ever had. Swing by, pull up a stool and enjoy a cold one! I was surprised to learn that there was no carbonation in it so once you have removed it from the refrigerator you can put it back in days later without ruining the taste. read more

Johnny One Dog, you are the man!!! Walking around Tombstone, you can't help but see places selling the local Sarsparilla. But you just need to go to the source, buy some to take home, and one to open and drink on the spot while chatting it up with the man behind it all. The location is pure character, and you just can't help but be drawn to it. And the Sasparilla... well, he has it down! Fantastic flavor and great conversation. One of the highlights of Tombstone! read more

Sarsaparilla. It doesn't matter if you call it root beer or sarsaparilla, what kid doesn't like a good root beer? And a life without root beer floats just wouldn't be worth living IMO. It's a shame that we haven't figured out how make FDA-approved using the old recipes but that a topic for another website. Tombstone Sarsaparilla is GOOD sarsaparilla. The family took Dr. Jay's walking tour and then went right across the street to get a cold drink and were happy that we did. The building may not look like much but an ice cold sarsaparilla on a hot day, hell any day, well worth the stop. If you are in town with kids, this is the way to go. read more

The gentleman there was very friendly and the sarsaparilla was delicious. Next trip we will definitely go back.

You can't help but be drawn to the lively business. Everything is cheerfully draped in red white and blue Americana paraphernalia; and the bearded old-timey gentleman who runs the place oozes Mark Twainesque charm. The sarsaparilla is micro brewed specifically for Tombstone. It was a little less sweet than your Barq's or A&W rootbeer, smooth, nicely spiced and easy to drink. On a hot, muggy, thunderstormy day the sarsaparilla hit the spot. read more

Goodness gracious! What have I been drinking all my life? Mass produced rootbeer does NOT do the original justice! I had the opportunity to check out this little hole in the wall in Tombstone and fell in love with the beverage. So incredibly refreshing and while it's twice as much as a regular can of root-beer the taste in unparalleled. It has a sort of licorice taste, but it goes down so smoothly. Do yourself a favor and try the real stuff! read more

All I can say is: OH. MY. GOD. I died and went to heaven! I LOVE root beer and this is the BEST stuff I ever had. After a lot of walking and touring, we saw this little stand, and I had to stop to see what it was about. The gentleman who runs it told me I was in for a treat, and he was not lying! I wish it was close enough to visit regularly, but I will need to visit again in my lifetime, and buy CASES of this deliciousness! If you are in Tombstone, you MUST try this. You won't regret it one iota! Thank you, gentlemen who talked me into buying a 4-pack. I wish I bought a case! Yummmmm.... read more

You want to sit in an air conditioned sports bar, listening to Top 40 music? Git back to the city, ya fancy pants! This is a dusty outdoor booth cluttered with smartassed signage and two barstools. They sell sarsaparilla. That's it. Nobody around to serve you? Ring the giant dinner bell and hold your horses. Somebody will be along. You'll be rewarded with the frostiest, smoothest sody-pop you've ever had. read more

Tombstone is sucha tourist trap, but this place is AWWWWESOME! The Husband is a big root beer fanatic, so of course we had to stop by and try "The Rootbeer of the Old West!" We got the souvenir pack as well as one to go... verdict? Damn delicious! read more

The BEST in the West and Johnny One Dog is the personality that gives it that extra fun...

The root beer bar beckons to you - it is irresistable. The sign leaps out at you, don't fight it. And the root beer? Nothing short of supreme. Beautiful, silky, cold. Have one. read more

This place has awesome root beer. We bought three. They hit the spot. The root beer is not too sweet and does not have a sharp burn that some of the canned big brands have. If you stop on by the owner is sitting in the back with his dog. He is a nice older gentlemen that will serve you up a nice cool beverage to cool off in the hot old west sun. read more

I love Sarsasparilla and Johnny One Dog has the best. He takes it out of the fridge and as you drink it there are ice crystals that make it cold but doesn't affect the wonderful taste. Johnny is a genuine character that you mustn't miss if you go to Tombstone. read more

We did not go to the Tombstone Sarsaparilla location. They were closed when we arrived. We did however purchase two Tombstone Sarsaparilla a from the OK Corral. They tasted like a smoother root beer. I noticed on the bottle that they are distributed in Tombstone, not made there. Natural and artificial flavors are added. We each enjoyed our beverages. read more
