The pizza was very delicious. The garlic bread was tasty enough, but there wasn't anything AMAZING about it. The cheese bread would probably been a better choice. One large white pizza was very good. But the winner was the 2nd pizza, which had sausage and green pepper. The Caesar salad seemed to go over well except that everyone mentioned how the croutons were all burned. Two reasons that this place was knocked down a star are: 1. Both pizzas were burned/overcooked on one side (along with the aforementioned croutons); and, 2. The way they cut the pizza is asinine. Instead of long strips they should simply cut the pie into smaller "bite sized" pieces. I'd definitely go back, ensuring that we order the hazelnut chocolate bread. read more

I'm... not sure what I'm missing here. I know it's supposed to be "authentic" Italian pizza, but I was in Italy recently and ate a lot of pizza... about all Tomatoes' pizza had in common with the pizza I had in Italy was that it was thin. The toppings were alright, but nothing remarkable. The sauce didn't taste as fresh as they claim it is. But by far the worst part was the crust... authentic Italian pizza tends to be on the crispy side, but Tomatoes pizza was soggy. Every time I picked up a slice, it just kind of sadly folded by itself and was hard to eat. The really dumb way they cut it--in long rectangles instead of triangles--made it worse. I don't know if I just caught them on a bad day but this place just fell way short of the hype. read more

I've been going to the grocery store for years and walk past the door a LOT. Finally caved in and ordered a pizza before shopping. Picked it up and took it home. Why have I never been here before? Apparently I am VERY late to this game. I know there was one in Farmington Hills people go to for a lunch buffet, but that crispy crust and pizza is very good. read more

If you like apizza style pizza this is the only spot who really does it right in our area. The pizza itself is amazing - don't overdo it on toppings, less is more with that crispy crust! Didn't love the cheese bread - tried it for the first time this past weekend. I plan to just stick to their amazing pizza from now on. read more

Had my first experience at Tomatoes and it did not disappoint! I wanted to try all the main staples so I did the sampler. Loved fresh mozz and green pizza. Had the right amount of sauce and cheese on each while it stayed crispy by the time I got home. Good as leftovers too! Will be back! read more

Honestly the best pizza I've ever had. Even though I got the small sampler and garlic bread, the portions were really good, enough to share with another person. Everyone inside was so kind, patient, and very hardworking. No one was distracted at all and everyone was doing their job quietly and peacefully! Easily one of the top 10 pizzas I've had in my life. I'm rarely a fan of thin crust but these guys have a perfect combo of portion and taste. I highly recommend their Naples Sampler because why not get the best of everything on the menu. Extremely pleasant staff. A few spots to sit at but this place is mainly a takeout joint. Will be back for more very soon. read more

I rarely post reviews on Yelp but this was definitely warranted. I grew up in New Jersey and there are a select few places I'll go to order pizza in Michigan. After some recommendations from fellow east coasters I gave Tomatoes APIZZA a try. I never had new haven style before, but it's not too far away from what I grew up eating. Definitely will be back! read more

We had sort of forgotten we had this right by us. We had gotten in a green lantern rut and then I remembered hey Tomatoes A Pizza is the best, and it was again. I had never read the history and the New Haven link. It makes sense to me now. I have had pizza in New Haven several times and it is really good but Tomatoes A Pizza puts their spin on it and it is consistently amazing. I always get the pepperoni on the custom section because they use a great spicy pepperoni even better than Green Lantern! read more

Incredible pie. Decent mobile ordering experience (wish they would text when ready). The speciality house salad might be the best product on the menu. We sub the ranch for the balsamic and the balsamic must be house made or something - it's so good. Dip your pizza crust into dressing good. read more

Great pizza! The sauce is what makes it delicious. I'd say one of the best pizza I've tried. The only issue was toooooo much pizza sauce. Make the center of the pizza soggy rather than keeping that perfect crunch all the way throughout. Very flavorful and beautiful to the eye! Actually, this pizza place deserves no star at all!! Last night we had a craving for pizza and since our favorite place is temporarily closed we decided to try a new place. All 6 of us were extremely disappointed and shocked at the price. The quality is awful and while fire pizza is popular it's definitely not good when the underside is too well done. I love Tomatoes Pizza, and I LOVE the Caesar salad. The last few times I've order the Caesar salad for $13.00, I was disappointed. This was for the simple reason that the portion of lettuce in the container has not been consistent with other Tomatoes locations. They normally fill up the container FULLY. Lately I've ended up with some half size portion of a Caesar for $13.00, that should be priced lower, if that is the way the are making them at the Bham location. I've even called about and reminded the girl on the phone to fill it full. It was not. Makes me angry when you feel like people aren't listening and you get the same half size salad as the the last three. Next time I'm checking the salad container before I leave the store. read more

Absolutely hands down the best "THIN CRUST" pizza in the area and surrounding areas. I eat a lot of pizza. The staff is always very friendly and helpful if you can't decide. The toppings taste about as fresh as you can get and they don't skimp either. The shop is always clean and the pizza is fantastic with a unique style over that is charcoal. If you haven't tried it, you need to. Just make sure the pizza isn't raging hot as the toppings can slide off and it doesn't taste as good if it's just hot enough to eat. It always warms up very well and taste just great if you decide not to. read more

Why hasn't anyone reviewed Tomatoes APIZZA yet!? I am really, really impressed. Having grown up here with Little Caesars....then Dominos in college I only knew pizza to be "basic" for lack of a more fitting descriptor. After having pizza all around the world and living in NYC where they do have some of the best pizza....I know, I know you're all sick of hearing that but it's true. Even the corner pizza joint has better slices than places here. I'm the last person who would ever put down eating establishments here but I have to admit...it's hard to find authentic, delicious pizza. But finally I think that I have found my go to pizza place.... We had a garden salad and white crab pizza. The garden salad was huge....full of fresh veg, chick peas and a side of robust balsamic dressing. Seriously generous and fresh salad. The pizza was perfectly balanced in flavor. The crust was crisp, just the way I like it. The dough was proofed to perfection....the exact amount of chewy ness and crunch.....there was a perfect amount of cheese....and premium....and to top it off there was a hint of garlic. Not too much. I really think you should give this place a try if you have been looking for delicious pizza. Can't wait to go again to try the red pizza! read more

I decided to retry the pizza here and my goodness, it is amazing! I really really liked it. I went with the Naples sampler. That is the right move. You get four different types of pizza that are all amazing. I liked the tomatoes and green sides the best. The staff was very friendly and helpful too. I will definitely be coming back! read more

I'm so happy to have a 3rd Location in Birmingham, the pizza is great just like the other locations. If you haven't tried it you're missing out. The sampler is my recommendation, 4 amazing pizzas in 1 pie.... 1/4 White, 1/4 Green, 1/4 Fresh Mozzerlla and 1/4 Classic. Try it and you too will be a fan of this fantastic pizza!! read more

The pizza is here delicious! I've tried a variety, including pepperoni, garlic, arugula, and chicken, and have enjoyed all of them! It is pretty similar to the apizza I've had in New Haven - slightly charred and chewy crust and cut in irregular shapes, but I think that really adds to a unique pizza. read more

Well, I did try them out again but didn't take the offer of a free pizza because that felt kind of grimey to do when we're all in the middle of a pandemic. Anyway, you win dude. Really disappointing experience tonight... especially since I do think these peeps have legit the best and perhaps only true representation of a 'real' garlic bread (which yes involves using real garlic & real cheese not just powders out of a can!) in the metro area. I've been a long time customer and fan and I certainly DO understand the new realities of the world (a lot of ppl doing a lot more with a lot let - whether it be due to staffing, supply chain or other residual ongoing effects from the pandemic) which is why I was willing to pay $10 for delivery plus tip from Bham to bloomfield; however what I received was far below standard and highway robbery considered I paid $16 to get this 6 miles. I understand the breadsticks are typically thin and crispy but these were as thin and frail as paper. The fact that the box was soaked through to the bottom with grease and still was pooling in the bottom of the box four hours later was just disgusting. Don't waste your money. (FYI these aren't $6 breadsticks - $10). read more

Love the pizza and would have given 5 stars for the food. Two weeks ago went to pick up a pizza. Sitting in my car, watched the cook cut up my pizza, NO MASK, sent it out and the kid wore the mask over the mouth, not over nose, and no gloves (a young lady bringing them out had both on correctly) To the OWNER: love your food, but you need to assure safety of handling food for me to order again. I am a physician with lots of medical friends who order from you and was appalled at the lack or ignorance of PPE on your people Addendum: I went back a few weeks later. Kid cutting my pizza with mask on, under his nose. Kid delivering my pizza with NO mask. I said I wouldn'ttake it unless he gets a mask. He brings it back in and the puzza cutter kid brings it out wearing a mask. I'M DONE WITH YOUR LACK OF SAFETY IN YOUR EMPLOYEES. read more

What are "Zig Zag" cuts? I saw this comment & I am not related to the restaurant, but I grew up in the New Haven, CT area where this Pizzeria is modeled after. Frank Pepe's pizzeria in New Haven does this. This keeps it authentic to New Haven style.

Tomatoes were a little bland, but that's probably a compliment to the cheese; like, hey look at me, f*** the tomato- look at me! I'm buffalo mozzarella, look how good I am. The penne pasta we got was VERY sweet, and cooked to perfection! The sauce was so sweet it almost tasted like it was TOO sweet. I literally had to add SALT to it like when should anyone ever have to do that to something overpowered by sweetness? Me of course cause clearly I wasn't thinking. It turned out to be spectacular though. I liked Grano, pretty good pizza at a monstrous price. But you can't deny, CLEANEST kitchen in the whole U.S. and definitely a lot of care put into their craft. There are 100% some maestro's coming out of that walk-in everyday, and like Tony Soprano's psychiatrist said, hope comes in many different forms. I love Italian-America, it's so dedicated. (4/5)

I have passed by Sidecar in Birmingham so many times, and strolled past it more occasions than I can count. I have always avoided the place because there is always someone inside of it who is racist and anything but professional. This corniest thing about management here is that it seems to train workers to only like it when whites sit at their eatery. Be sure to hold onto to a copy of your receipt if you wish to be refunded for the unpleasant blah-slop they will serve you. The food here looked like someone sat on it when I bought it, and it was flavorless from started to finish. Honestly, I was skeptical about coming here based on reviews and I wish I had listened to the complaints. One waitress was apologetic to me when I came back to complain, so sad for her because she was not the owner of this dump who has the personality of a headless turkey. The food is worth only one star, but I would give it zero if I could.
