Large Naples Sampler
Michelle H.

We ordered the Large Naples Sampler with extra garlic for takeaway and it really did not disappoint. It was perfectly thin, charred, and chewy. The Classic was probably my favorite of the 4 - just the right balance of flavors. Some of the most authentic and tastiest pizzas I've ever had! The only negative was that we had ordered over the phone and by the time we arrived at the restaurant at their specified time, they didn't even start our order yet.

By far one of my favorite spots for pizza, especially apizza style. Very flavorful and delicious. My order was later than expected, and for pizza it was a bit long of a wait time and actually ended up being a bit burnt, but nonetheless the service was nice and it was great!

My favorite spot in the Birmingham/Troy/Royal Oak area to get pizza (or apizza for those that know)! I ordered the Naples Sampler as it accommodates for all taste buds and picky eaters alike. I love me some New Haven style has that crunch, crisp, and thin-y quality. You can really taste that delicious coal fire in the char of the undercarriage. It's really a take out only kind of spot so can't say too much about the ambience. Also, every time I have talked to the staff, every one has been very accommodating and friendly.

Ordered a small Naples sampler with pepperoni, small green pizza, added mushrooms, onions, mixed peppers (green and red), basil and anchovies on one side only and a Naples salad too. The green pizza was topped immensely with toppings, nice coverage for sure. The pizza did get a bit soggy and flimsy, but it still tasted good. The crust was hard, but the rest was a bit soggy, might be due to the weight of the toppings though. I tend to like a salad on my pizza and kill two birds with one stone. :) The Naples pizza looks like a nice variety.

"One bite, everyone knows the rules..." except for us, apparently. We took many bites, but it couldn't be helped. This pizza was Amazing; of course, at the time we had it, it was still carry out only. So we're already making plans to dine in. The classic pepperoni was fantastic, but the mushroom and onion pizza was my favorite. We had never tried "new haven" style pizza before. I enjoyed it far more than any Chicago style. All the ingredients tasted fresh. The only reason for the four stars was the cheese bread. It was just ok, but I'm sure that was because of the carry out. Like I said, we are looking forward to eating at the establishment!

Delicious cheese and garlic bread was so tasty.

I was headed into Papa Joe's when I noticed Tomatoes APIZZA located next door. After a quick grocery trip, I stopped into the very clean location set up for take-out/delivery. This is very different from the large, sit-down place that I am accustomed to in Farmington Hills. A quick glance at the menu and decision made: crab pizza and cheese bread. The menu is very simple. For pizzas, you can choose your own toppings or there were a few chef creations. Additionally, you can select salads, pasta, or bread. I waited in my car (COVID) - for 10 minutes only - while the staff prepared my order. The smell of garlic was tantalizing as I drove home. Since there was a ton of road construction, my order was cool rather than piping hot by the time I got home. I had to pop both into the oven for a few minutes for a refresh. The crab was sweet and delicate. The thinly-sliced garlic complemented the overall flavors, as did the squeeze of lemon. The cheese bread, served with tomato sauce, was garlic goodness. I wish I ordered the Naples sampler, 4 different pizza toppings on one pizza. I like trying different flavors. I am glad that there is yet another option for pizza - since it appears that COVD ignited my interest in pizza. I went from having pizza maybe twice a year to pizza all the time.

It was okay nothing spectacular. The crust was crispy on the edge but flimsy in the center. Not a true NY style

Ask the Community - Tomatoes APIZZA

What are "Zig Zag" cuts? I saw this comment & I am not related to the restaurant, but I grew up in the New Haven, CT area where this Pizzeria is modeled after. Frank Pepe's pizzeria in New Haven does this. This keeps it authentic to New Haven style.

They cut it criss cross rather the the typical pie cuts.

Do they do a lunch buffet like the WB location does?

Nope. It's a smaller establishment meant more for carry out orders. There are a couple of tables to sit at though.

You know damn well Yelpers that the number 1 rule about doing these reviews is this: NEVER DELIVER. It's just not the right way to experience it. You need the conversation, you need the interior, you need the cashier asking if you'd like to tip. (You know I'm joking, they don't ask. My fellow Berklians know that I ALWAYS tip 20%) When I walked in this couple already looked like they got into it. Atleast I know that if it's not love, or sadness being put into my pizza; it's ANGER. Beat that dough and smash those tomatoes. Slap that mootz onto that fresh pie, spank it a little. If your head doesn't look the color of a San Marzano making my pie... don't even bother. The crank hands me and my girlfriend the garlic bread. Bro. This might actually be some of the best bread I've ever had. It's like Canes with their sauce. Garlic bread is an incredibly overlooked component to a good pizza and I'm so happy that they put there ALL into making the best possible cheese bread. So delicious, it melts! The pizza was quite floppy, albeit, that was probably on me for leaving it in the box for more than 10 minutes. But the crust is chewy, the taste is pretty good. Tomatoes were a little bland, but that's probably a compliment to the cheese; like, hey look at me, f*** the tomato- look at me! I'm buffalo mozzarella, look how good I am. The penne pasta we got was VERY sweet, and cooked to perfection! The sauce was so sweet it almost tasted like it was TOO sweet. I literally had to add SALT to it like when should anyone ever have to do that to something overpowered by sweetness? Me of course cause clearly I wasn't thinking. It turned out to be spectacular though. I liked Grano, pretty good pizza at a monstrous price. But you can't deny, CLEANEST kitchen in the whole U.S. and definitely a lot of care put into their craft. There are 100% some maestro's coming out of that walk-in everyday, and like Tony Soprano's psychiatrist said, hope comes in many different forms. I love Italian-America, it's so dedicated. (4/5)

Garbage from top to bottom. No way this place lasts another year with this bland-as* pizza…read more PRICE: First big red flag...DONT LET THEM SCAM YOU LIKE THEY SCAMMED ME. They charge you full price for a half topping pizza. I was charged the same price for multiple half topping pizzas as I was for a Full-1 topping. You multiply this by every single transaction, and they're scamming customers out of money they definitely don't deserve to be making. Scamming aside, it's $15 for a large pizza. Should be $10 MAX considering an average Hot-N-Ready from Little Caesars is better than this crap. TASTE: I've never tasted a pizza so bland and pathetic in my entire life. Their pepperonis are literally tasteless. You probably think I'm joking or lying, but chew one in your mouth and tell me if you actually taste anything whatsoever. Lol. The cheese, sauce, and dough are the same story. They're all there, but they're literally just bland and taste like cardboard. It's truly fascinating how they can make a pizza taste like literally nothing. That first review on this page where the woman rants about the "wonderful flavor" is a literal bold faced lie. ------------------------------------------ If we're going with the usual One Bite type score, this place is a 4.9-5.3 and that's being extremely generous. There's no way this place will still be there 1 year from now without the owners hemorrhaging money every month. It's a shame too because Brooklyn Pizza in Birmingham is terrible, and Tomatoes Apizza across the street is overpriced wayyy over what it should be because places like this can't give anyone in the area any competition that lasts.

So they had on $10 in fees for a delivery. They don't even do the delivery themselves. They outsource it. My order got screwed up and I'm not sure who's fault. It is either the delivery driver or the restaurant. Neither wants to take blame. I have the email of what I typed in. Getting tired of businesses saying that they have to absorb the fees that credit card companies charge, when credit card companies have been doing this since they began and they've always just included it into the price. Also working in the industry I know that the fees they charge are exorbitant and don't match the credit card fees that the business is being charged. The food was cold because when you use a third-party to do the delivery, you're not sure what time your food's gonna be picked up or if they're making other stops. I assume the ambience of the restaurant is trash, because didn't get what I ordered, customer service, not good, and they nickel and dime you. So when it first looked like a standard affordable dinner quickly became inexpensive one for average/mediocre food. If Hungry Howie's could not survive in this location, I'm not sure how this place will. People in this area like good restaurants, not ones that nickel and dime us for mediocre food.

I've tried this place three different times and ALL three times I had an issue. It was a waste of my gas to drive to Sidecar in Birmingham to eat and everything was a disaster from the moment I was seated. I have passed by Sidecar in Birmingham so many times, and strolled past it more occasions than I can count. I have always avoided the place because there is always someone inside of it who is racist and anything but professional. This corniest thing about management here is that it seems to train workers to only like it when whites sit at their eatery. Be sure to hold onto to a copy of your receipt if you wish to be refunded for the unpleasant blah-slop they will serve you. The food here looked like someone sat on it when I bought it, and it was flavorless from started to finish. Honestly, I was skeptical about coming here based on reviews and I wish I had listened to the complaints. One waitress was apologetic to me when I came back to complain, so sad for her because she was not the owner of this dump who has the personality of a headless turkey. The food is worth only one star, but I would give it zero if I could. I'd recommend just going to Applebee's instead of Sidecar and maybe the place that Sidecar is holding can be repurposed into some type of mixed-use community hub to breathe new life into Birmingham once it gets shut down. - Oakley
