I love this place! It has a very good balance between the raw and fresh, organic ingredients, and not. We go there for our everyday shopping and staff is very friendly and helpful which is all the plus. Plenty of free parking and a great overall selection of products. The store is well laid out. That said, prices do run a bit on the higher end. I noticed several identical items priced noticeably higher than at Walmart--sometimes by around $3--so it's not the most budget-friendly option for everyday shopping. I also tried a couple of their prepared foods. The chicken pot pie was quite good and enjoyable, but the sushi was underwhelming and didn't taste very fresh. read more

You think Tom Thumb, you might think, a bit pricey or a bit up market, unlike the grocer I reviewed - Town Talk. Well it is up market, but it is owned by Albertson's so they do cross product market sharing. Tom Thumb is as Lexus is to the Toyota brand. It's the niche, but guess what? They have real DEALs on meat. Yes. The jewel is in the meat department. They rotate stock, no redating meats. I caught USDA prime Ribeyes marked to go quick, less than $6 each, 1 pound bone-in steaks. Look around, those go for $14.99 a pound. Prime, not Choice or Select. Top cuts, well marbled. No, you don't have to eat them that day. I rewrapped mine to freeze them to grill at a later date. I also caught St. Louis style ribs on sale. Sure, last day date on them, red stickered at $1.79 lb. These usually go for $3.49 even at Costco. Cheapest Spare ribs at Winco are still $2.69 on sale, and that's not St. Louis trim. Highest trim, $1.79. Needless to say, I bought 3 slabs. I was going to grab the last 6 but it seemed greedy. These I marinated immediately, uncovered the pellet smoker and got busy prepping awesome sides to go with. Thick, meaty ribs too, not fatty, meat for my money, and my tummy. So don't be fooled by how pretty the store is. Tom Thumb is going to war on pricing. They have some serious deals. Check the bakery as well. Don't forget, bread freezes well too, so grab the red tagged items, freeze them. Take care of yourselves. Check on friends, loved ones, strangers you see on corners. No, not all of them have a Benz parked far away. If you can YELP, you can HELP! Some can't afford to worry about how many stars a spot has too busy sleeping outside under the stars. I can tell there's a lack of customer service at this store. Most tom thumbs I've been to are similar. On the positive side, the stores are tidy. I found items I wanted at this location vs the one in my area. Love community dark & bold coffee! There was a $3.97 deal. This tom thumb has been here awhile, and usually not very busy. Usually well stocked, though prices tend to be on the higher side. We usually only come for the weekly ad items, like when they have sales on fruit products or decent prices on meat. For the rest of our items we shop elsewhere. Though we regularly have issues with their P.O.S. check out system taking off their own in house coupons. We've been told its better to scan our bar code in the app to guarantee coupons come off, but that has been more hit/miss than just putting in our phone number. Though with fruit we do have to pay close attention to the state of things that we get and sometimes check dates on the times we take advantage of dry good deals like pasta. As a lot of times it feels like things are on the need to eat it quickly stage of life. Which usually is fine because with having kids things like grapes, apples, strawberries, etc because we go thru that quickly between packing lunches and easy snacks at home. read more

This particular location has been here for at least 30 years if not longer. The store is clean, well kept, even though the outside somewhat shows some of its age. Plus it isn't usually busy, and staff is usually helpful when you need assistance. Tom Thumb as a whole will usually have some decent digital deals if you follow the adds and are willing to load the coupons on to your account ... either online or via the app ... prior to checking out with the items. Though I would not recomend coming here for all of your grocery items, just stick to those deals and hit up one of the other local grocery stores within 1-5 miles of this store. The main complaints I have with this location is while they open at 6am on weekdays, they don't have self check out going until close to 9am. They don't start prepping self check out until 830. Every other store I've been too between those hours will have self check out open right away and a cashier. Possibly start having the cashier start at 8am or 9am. Most folks coming into this location tend to be people running in for 10 items or less, and are trying to get to work or whatever else they have planned for their day. Which for those who prefer a cashier this is great. For those trying to come in & out quickly, which self check out is made for in my option, it can be frustrating. read more

I stop by every so often to take advantage of their 97 cent boneless skinless chicken breast sales. They run them pretty regularly and I always buy the max - 10lb. Ten pounds is typically right about 10 pieces so I take them home and freeze them in individual ziplocks. Then when I need 3lb of chicken for a recipe I just pull out 3 baggies. I wish the max was higher because with a large family like ours 10lb just doesn't last that long. This week I also bought pork shoulder butt for 97 cents a pound and used a digital coupon from the app to score half gallon Blue Bell for $2.99ea (limit 2). The store is clean. I rarely interact with any employees except the butchers, but they seem friendly enough. A little slow, maybe. Beyond the aforementioned sales, Tom Thumb is SO EXPENSIVE. I've been shopping at Aldi for long enough to make regular grocery store prices make me want to barf. I'm always tempted to stop people I see rolling down the aisle with a full cart and ask them if they've heard of Aldi or Walmart or Costco or any number of other, less expensive places to buy groceries. I guess cost just isn't an issue for some people. Must be nice! Anyway, I'll keep popping in for the chicken breast sale, but I'd starve before I ever did my regular weekly shopping at Tom Thumb. read more

The descent for this location to being a terrible store since the Albertsons take over is pretty much complete now. You show up and the things that are on sale are empty on the shelves there's nobody around to ask and if you go to the meat department the stuff isn't there either. If you want to wait for a while they might bring out a little bit while everybody else is waiting too. And I just saw a couple of their manager geniuses blocking two isles while trying to put up a display. The Tom thumb fried Chicken which used to be really really good has been Albertson's garbage chicken now for a long time too. It is sad to see a long time institutions like Tom thumb go to seed. Even after Safeway bought them, Safeway retained the same level of quality and in many cases the Lucerne store brands were as good or better than name brand things. Plus, now when they have steaks on sale they have a picture of good looking steaks when you go to buy any they are cut in half sliced thin like something you would get at a dollar store. read more

Contrary to some others, I've always had a positive experience at this Tom Thumb. Pharmacy has a drive thru pick up which is nice when I don't have other shopping to do. My sister works at their corporate offices in CA and she encouraged me for years to shop with them, but the Safeway by my old house in Portland just wasn't great. We like the layout and selection and now they also offer the ready cooked meals for a quick weeknight option when I don't feel like cooking a ton. There seems to have been some turnover in staffing recently with a lot of younger new hires, but still see many of the regulars. In this day and age a little kindness goes a long way and I try to be friendly and thank cashiers and baggers by name, I feel like grocery workers are kind of like airline workers - not sure they deserve the brunt of our general irritation and we all know the labor market is super tight these days. I like coming here cause it's usually empty... as others have said, I consistently purchase items just to realize they are grossly expired. They must no do enough business to warrant replenishing their stock. But this store has a problem with expired goods. Today I visited Floral Department to have flowers for a good friends mother's funeral. Tina Donnelly, the Floral Manager, was an absolute joy to work with. She made recommendations, helped select the flowers, and then created one of the most beautiful arrangements I have ever seen...all at a reasonable price! The thing I like best about having the arrangement custom made and then picking it up is being able to see what is being delivered (BTW, have you ever had someone you sent flowers through a florist delivered call and inform you the arrangement was old or poorly made...I have). The prices are fairly good, the selections are vast and comprehensive, the bakery and fresh produce areas was well organized and had a large selection to choose from. I actually came with my sister and niece to pick up some poinsettia's for a holiday party my sister was planning. And she wanted to share with me her secret passion for chocolate covered cherry's. She discovered these by accident one day while waiting in the floral area for some arrangements she had ordered. She bought them and gave them a try and has been "in love" every since. After spilling mustard* on my pretty blue Trump International sweatshirt, I needed some stain remover, STAT. Enter Tom Thumb, conveniently located on our route down Grapevine Hwy. We popped in, grabbed some spray-on stain remover, used the bathroom (which was very clean and located by the in-store Starbucks) and left. I've been to this Tom Thumb location lots of times in the past, but my recent visits haven't gone so great. One recent visit I couldn't find the type of cheese I was looking for (Edam). They have all kinds of different exotic cheeses, but the one I was looking for (they even had a manufacturer of Edam cheese, on the shelf). I can get over that though, since Market Street is so close by and the deli associate that helped me was very friendly and really seemed genuine in his search for the elusive cheese. So with that visit, I would have given this Tom Thumb a 3 to 4 star rating. Unfortunately, I had to come back a few days later and that last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. So, my girlfriend and I needed to pick up some late night (around 11 - 12 PM) supplies on the way home from eating out. We stopped by this Tom Thumb, and got what we needed. The entire visit was lovely (practically empty store, everything we needed stocked and at a decent price) till we had to check out. When we got to the registers we found no one there. Ok... Looking around, we couldn't find an associate in sight anywhere. So we wait... 2 minutes... 3 minutes... 5 minutes... nothing. Well no problem, there's a Kroger right down the street right? We start to decide to leave when a associate (I'm assuming was coming in on his shift) in regular clothing sees us and alerts the guy outside. Yep, the clerk was outside the whole time. So you would think that the clerk would come inside asap, right? Nope. He saw us, ducked around the corner and continued doing what he was doing and we were going on the 6-7 minute mark at this time. Finally somewhere around 9-10 minutes, he strolls in and checks out our groceries. It's sad that I have to give a nice store like this one such a low rating, but that is just horrible service. Major food poisoning from cod fish purchase in the meat counter at the Hurst location on Sept. 23, 2023. This item was in their weekly sales add but only one piece was left in the counter as the last one left and that there was none frozen in the back to bring out. Even though I was suspect the attendant assured me it was fresh. After purchasing it, the taller young man then said that there was a possibility there still might still be some in the back room and he would look. Couple of minutes later he comes out with a case of frozen cod which is what I ask had for in the first place. Then I bought five more pounds frozen which he magically found. Just to get rid of the one piece still in the counter, the contaminate fish was sold to me to get rid of it. Cod fish should never be put out thawed for more than a few minutes at the most. Yet Tom Thumb was selling it already thawed in the meat counter. End result, I took the thawed piece home and immediately fried it for lunch (well done). By Sunday afternoon I had full blown food poisoning that lasted for 10 hours or more. Throwing up, diarrhea, dry heaves and all that goes with it. Buyer beware. I am seventy seven years old and I almost didn't make it. read more

In what is becoming a pattern, the store, while open at 6:20 a.m., had no cashiers this morning. Zero. I left my cart and walked out. I saw one guy with a Tom Thumb shirt stocking items in the bakery and another hitting on the Starbucks barista. Other than those two, no visible staff in the front of the store. This location is consistently criticized on the Nextdoor app. Those negative reviews are spot on. This place never really recovered from a management change a few years ago. read more

I like the actually store and that is why I gave them 3 stars. However the deli staff is awful and I wish I could rate them separately. The gentleman who was working was incredibly rude to both myself and the woman who was in front of me. He placed the woman's lunch meat DIRECTLY on the scale and when she told him she didn't want it because of the cross contamination he got really combative with her. He eventually did give her a new order. Once it was my turn I attempted to order sandwich pepperoni an he went into a rant about how they don't carry it and I should know that. I had the best experience with the florist (Heather). I came in looking for a for an arrangement with sunflowers, I had no luck finding what I was looking for. Heather came over to help me and she was so knowledgeable about the various arrangements and different flowers. She let me know that they can put something custom together for me. She asked me questions about my budget and the type of arrangement I was look for. She was efficient and created the perfect arrangement. It was Mother's Day 2009 and we still had not done the grocery shopping. My sister and I wanted to go to Central Market or Market Street; but, since my Daddy who recently had a stroke (life revolves around what he wants these days) wanted a Fillet Mignon Mom told us to go this particular Tom Thumb because "they have the best Fillet Mignon". This was my first time shopping in their new location and since it is brand spanking new it is very nice and well laid out and huge. My soon to be Bro-inlaw got my Sis and I lattes from the Starbucks located inside to fuel our shopping and some hot chocolate and muffins for the kids. I found that everything we purchased was very reasonably priced for the quality: zucchini .99 per LB, Salmon enough for 2 people 4.99, 4 portions of Tilapia less than 6.00, 8 ounces of Fillet Mignon 11.99 (my Daddy only eats the finest of meats and said it was excellent! even though he has no appetite these days) a nice T-Bone for my soon to be nephews around 6.00. I had fun with my "nephews" in the seafood department looking through a book that lists every fish and the calories and nutrients and recipes. I discovered that I like "fatty" fish over the slimmer cousins. The meat and fish guys were super helpful and assured us that they cut "the most prized meat" for our Daddy all while we were on cell phones to confirm what everyone wanted as there main protein choice. They have numerous check outs and we had a speedy one. Have you checked out their produce section lately?? They upgraded this area a couple weeks ago and it's really nice. They're stocking a much wider variety of produce than before. Granted they don't have 'everything', but I saw things like broccolini, baby beets, baby bok choy, asst types of radishes, more organics, heirloom tomatoes, greens out the wazoo, etc, etc. And everything looked fresh and beautiful. Kudos! I mentioned in my previous review that I was shopping here more lately than places closer to home. That's still true. In fact, I'm primarily shopping here as they also have a decent meat department (Angus ribeyes, anyone!). I'm not ready to give them that fifth star, though. Their deli (sliced meats and cheeses) still needs more of a selection (more than ham and turkey) and I'd like to see the Asian section of the international aisle expanded a bit (please stock the Thai green curry paste in addition to the red). Closest grocery store to my folks house. The gas prices are very good with a plus card. My family gets their meds here so they get an even bigger discount on gas. The store itself is always clean and has a small Starbucks. Huge bakery, deli, and specialty items section toward the the front. Why do I give four stars? Because my heart will always be with HEB. Born and Raised in Austin, where there is an HEB on every major street corner and not toooo many Randalls, which is Tom Thumbs brother or something. All Offspring of Safeway. Anyhow. I never really cared much for Randalls, but this move to Fort Worth is an overall cleansing of my body, mind, and soul. So with the lack of HEB's in my general area, I guess I can officially make the switch to Tom Thumb. Hell I actually enjoyed my trip, even though it was kind of against my will. Not really though since I was by myself, but I came for a piece of meat, Ribeye to be exact. I had originally went to Central Market, the offspring of HEB which is NOT in my area. I was not about to pay 16 bucks for a piece of meat. Not unless it's cooked to perfection with a nice marsala sauce and sauteed mushrooms, which I have the know-how to do that on my own and I don't need a whole pound of meat for myself. Just half that. Which I am sure the guyy behind the counter could have sliced it thinner for me, but I'm a nice person and he looked like he was trying to close up for the night. So I went to Tom Thumb and didn't pick out the cheapest piece of meat, nor the most expensive, luckily there were only 3 so I picked the one in the middle =) I also bought a bottle of wine and a couple of shallots for my sauce. They have a great wine selection, if you are in to that kinda thing, which I'm not. I don't care much for wine, more of a beer drinker myself, or at least a good frozen cocktail. Of course if I'm cooking with wine I will go ahead and have a glass for myself, now this is of course a bottle of wine that I have never had so I might actually like it and go back for more, but maybe not. When I find the one I like. Well I will have my "go to" wine and be set for the rest of my life. Until then I'll stick to my Shiner Bock. I just had the best time checking out a few minutes ago. A man named Randy bagged my groceries, and he could not have possibly been more polite or friendly. He had the best attitude I have ever seen from a grocery store worker! He appeared to truly love what he was doing and the people he was able to interact with. The beautiful smile on his face and careful way he took care of my items and the friendly and professional manner in which he spoke with me resonated, and made my entire day better. What a blessing it is to Tom Thumb to have this delightful employee! This location also has fresh bakery items, produce, and everything is clean and well stocked. The prices are higher then you will find at Walmart or Kroger, but the extra pennies are well worth it. If nothing else, it go so that you can have a fun and warmhearted conversation with Randy as he bags your groceries with care.
