I compete in a niche grappling sport regularly which involves both travel and an astonishing amount of time spent in hotel rooms eating lunch meat turkey. I walked about 1.5 miles each way to get to Tom thumb after struggling to find a supermarket near my hotel. I'm glad I took the walk. The Primo Taglio Carver turkey is really good, the employees super friendly and the outdoor seating is a pleasant place to sit and send LOTR memes to my friends on Instagram. I enjoyed the turkey so much that even when it froze later in my unreasonably cold hotel mini fridge, I still made a sandwich and ate with relish (the sensation, not the condiment). I guess what I'm really trying to say here is that in the bleak, anxious days leading up to a grappling tournament, when you are worried about your weight and life stresses seem amplified, Tom thumb makes a great hotel turkey that takes the edge off. read more

Went here to get cupcakes for my kids 18th birthday and man was I disappointed!! The selection looked like a 6yr old made them. Half of them were dropped previously and being sold at a discount and the other half looked just as bad. The cakes looked the same. The cakes not with the regular cakes and cupcakes looked sooooo much better. So I chose the 12 cupcakes+2inch round option as it looked great. We got to the restaurant and pulled them out and ate them and good to the lord they were SOOOOOOOOO sweet. On a level of 1 to 10 with 10 being straight up sugar cubes this was a 15. None of us could even eat a whole one. So needless to say this was a disappointment. I will stick to my usual grocery store chain to get my cupcakes from now on. This one was a bust. read more

Crab Boil bags at 100% more at Tom Thumb, 99 cents elsewhere, $2.00 at Tom Thumb. Their predatory APP tracks your movements, they have a dozen games you have to master to get some discounts on already overpriced items, so no real discount, just price shifting and games. The employees could not care less about a customer, they hear the complaints all the time, but Tom Thumb really doesn't care- they designed it this way. read more

They have a beer and wine bar here! Oh yeah and they sell groceries. Bakery, butcher, dairy, seafood, bread, flowers etc. Service here is pretty great. Did I mention they have a bar?!? Very cool. The bar is full of local bar flies. Hanging out here you can tell that they all know the bartender and each other pretty well. Age group looks to be in the late 50's to 60's club. Thought the price was a great value for the serving size. Also picked up some butterscotch mints to share with the other staff where I work. Fantastic Tom Thumb in a great location off 7th. I've always loved Tom Thumb and this spot is no exception, it's clean and bright and enormous and well organized. Feels a little bit fancier than most other TTs. Even though I'd never been here before, it was pretty easy to find my way around. They have a great gluten free selection and their deli and produce sections are so fresh and colorful. Right now there's tons of pumpkins and fresh fall flowers out front. Get there soon! read more

I bought steak and shrimp on Sunday and a few other groceries. The steak was the strangest meat I ever have tried to eat. Didn't even cook like meat it was also awful. I don't know what you're using for meat, but I've never experienced something like that in my life and I've always bought my meat from Tom Thumb or Albertsons. This visit was kind of a bummer we must have gotten the leftovers from the lunch crowd because there were barely any pieces and they looked old. This place gets lots of traffic and handles it efficiently with quite a few self checkout stations. Unfortunately, the staff assigned there on my last two visits weren't happy about it. When the bags were all stuck together, the guy said he couldn't do anything about that and the young lady a week later was just mad at everyone. Another observation is the smell from the fish counter is disgusting. It has been strong since the store opened but it gets worse. There are stores I go to that are much older and have the same inventory and no smell. You can smell it from the bakery and wine sections. I've noticed this at other Tom Thumb stores but not at Kroger or Albertsons. I avoid the store when I can but it is really close by. read more

Hubby and I had a great experience returning an expired product. The floor manager, Cory, personally escorted us to the candy aisle to see if there were any expired items still on the shelf and to find a replacement for what we originally bought. He went above and beyond to make sure we walked away with more than just a replaced item. Very nice, new and clean Tom Thumb, and the Trinity Cafe is an excellent addition to the store, where you can sit at a bar and chat with friends, much like you would at the adjacent Starbucks, but with a beer or wine in-hand versus a coffee. The store is traditionally laid out, well lit and very clean. My only concern would be the long-term viability of the location, as I was a regular patron of the very-short-lived Tom Thumb on University, by the Silver Fox. This store had the same vibe...a lack of customers and a full compliment of employees. Rest assured I'll keep coming here, and hope it lasts. Not a great place to shop, or work. The entire store has kind of a dingy cast, while the Tom Thumb on South Hulen has much better atmosphere and selection of items. Worked here (the W 7th location) for a few weeks last year, and left after being bullied out by other employees who were young enough to be my children, which was not only allowed but encouraged by upper management. Tom Thumb is not an equal opportunity employer if they act with such reckless disregard to people with autism. Meanwhile they are desperate to hire people, but can't keep anyone, which bewilders them. It would be funny if there were no human cost associated with that level of stupidity. read more

This grocery store is conveniently located close to Trinity Park and other restaurants on W 7th Street. It's a little small, especially compared to the Target in the nearby Montgomery Plaza, so there isn't a huge selection of items. However, they do have some good deals sometimes on their weekly ads, and their app makes it really easy to find and save these deals. I've gotten boxes of Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars for more than half off before! Also be sure to check out their discounted baked goods section (in the back right corner of the store by the dairy/freezer aisles) because you can get great deals on muffins, breads, cookies, and cakes. I've has mixed experiences with the employees who work at the seafood counter. Some of them are really nice and helpful, but there is one employee who is not friendly. I've never had an issue finding parking in the lot behind the store. read more

Well it has been about a month since I last shopped Tom. I did store pick up at 7th today and was delightfully surprised. Truth be told I did have the manager taking care of me and, I received a call to ask how to deal with a possible substitution. That should happen every time there is a question instead of just guessing. Everything was correct and timely. The manager even spent time talking to me and asking about my previously less than positive experiences with the third party delivery which on a store level they know is killing their brand. Did an online order for pickup. First of all half the things I put in my cart were supposed to be on sale or have a coupon but for some reason the deals did not come out properly. Second of all out of 30-40 items, I got about 3 original items I ordered. They substituted around 20 items (most with things that made absolutely no sense. Even the person loading my groceries into my vehicle was confused). The remainder of the items were canceled so I got almost NOTHING I ordered. Never ordering grocery pickup from here ever again. Would much rather drive the extra few minutes to Walmart and get almost ALL of my items for less than half the price. Convenience is not worth it. read more
