I arrived upon opening at 6am. There were tons of staff and vendors working to fill the sales floor. I asked an employee if they were expecting corporate. The young lady stated they were having a grand-reopening. The store was organized and completely full by 6:30 am. Many items were on sale. I had the chance to purchased items that normally aren't available until 11am. 4 stars is due to the employee that made an announcement for staff and customers to move their cars. If you know you're having an event and want customers to park in a certain area block off the area before the store opens and we start shopping. read more

Despite being out of my way this was my go-to store because of the prices, inventory and quality store brand items. In the last 6 months however, it has gone so downhill that I won't go back. They no longer have cashiers to check you out, everything is self checkout. The young people working there are put out by having to constantly come scan their cards to allow shoppers to proceed checking out because the machines are always glitching out or shutting down. The store is dirty and they don't carry plastic bags anymore. The paper bags they use don't have handles so coming up 4 flights of stairs to get them home is a fiasco. Everything has become cheap, dirty and robotic in an effort to cut costs and labor. It's unfortunate. read more

Prices can be high, but make sure to look for sales and use the app for coupons. I save a lot of money by using Kroger ecoupons! My favorite is Kroger free Friday- every Friday a coupon is available to download for a free item. The item tends to be $2.00 or less, but still! Some recent coupons were for snack packs, Gatorade, kind bars, and salsa. No other grocery store offers this feature. Employees are usually very helpful and friendly. read more

Not sure why the employee corralling shopping carts thinks we murdered his entire family, but his extremely aggressive attitude made it seem like he does! We were putting our groceries in our trunk and he sneaked up behind us and snatched the cart and yelled, "you're welcome!" We turned around because we were facing the trunk and didn't even see him approach. After we turned around, puzzled, he mumbled something in an aggressive tone. Still not understanding why this dude was so pissed off, I said, "What?" Then he pulled his mask down and spat out "thank you for shopping and have a great night" in a way that you knew he did NOT want us to have a great night. It was weird and aggressive. We were in shock and just kind of stood there because we were so stunned as to why this employee was so upset with us for no reason. We both stared at him for a few seconds because we were so confused. He then said "sorry about that," and we peeled out of there as quickly as we could. I don't know if he was upset about us not thanking him for taking the cart, but he literally started yelling at us the minute he creeped up and snatched it from us. We couldn't even process what was happening because our backs were turned. Other than that, I can't fathom why this fool was so mad. Maybe he hates his job? Avoid this jerk at all costs. Black male in his 20s, probably around 5'10", average build, close-cropped hair. And if he ever happens to read this: man, try yoga or something. Screaming at customers in the parking lot for no reason ain't it. On top of that, this Kroger is always crowded. Hard to navigate the narrow aisles with so many people milling around. I've had enough bad experiences here with the staff that this interaction was the final straw. We're never coming back, not that they care. So many people shop here and it's unpleasantly crowded all the time. I've also had negative interactions with other employees. The older white guy who corrals carts and bags groceries does a terrible job bagging--he put the meat in so that it got impaled by other items, and put so much stuff in one bag that the bag broke. I'd rather just do it myself if the bagger is going to do such a poor job. He was also rude but I guess at least he didn't scream at us....really low bar here. I've also had a creepy dude approach me in the parking lot when no one else was around and said, "Can I ask you a question?" I said no, and he got pissed off by my response. "Can I ask you a question?" is a question, and also, I don't owe you anything, weird stranger. Especially not in a parking lot when no one else is around. RUDE. ARROGANT. And they expect us to do the cashiers jobs for them. They had 30 people standing in line for the self check out and refused to open a cashier. They refused to give us any human service. We had a basket full of groceries that we spent an hour collecting And then they refused to give us a cashier so we walked out. This has happened too many times at the store and we're sick of it and we're done. We will never be back. There were lines of people waiting in there with crying children, baskets, full of groceries and no one to help us. Ridiculous unacceptable. read more

Ah the memories. When I lived in this area, a bit further east on Berry, this was an Albertson's. It was where I first experienced scan your own groceries, with your own hand-held scanner, as you shopped and placed items in your cart. Alas that never panned out, but it was interesting. But that has nothing to do with the fact that this is now a Kroger. A very nice Signature Kroger with all the amenities. After some very spicy wings at a nearby restaurant (shouldn't be too hard to figure out which) I wanted something sweet. It was also Halloween, so candy seemed appropriate. I walked over to Kroger and was quite surprised at how nice this store is. Kroger did a very good job with the renovations. It looks nothing like the place I used to shop, except for the fact it's still filled with TCU students. I always liked that part. Just seems to make the place more lively. Well I found my candy, some Twizzlers Cherry Pull-n-Peel Licorice Twists, and headed out the door. I'm glad I stopped in, as it was a nice trip down memory lane. read more

If you're a gambler looking for that special thrill that comes from playing a game of craps with the freshness of your meat, let this University Kroger be the casino of your choice! Four times so far this year, I've purchased meat with expiration dates clearly marked so far ahead that DR. Emmett Brown could have used them in his quantum calculations, only to open them and reel back in complete disgust. The last one, a pork roast that cost about $16.00, was so foul I actually took it outside and read it its last rites. Now I can understand one bacteria-ridden rebel slipping through the cracks occasionally... But FOUR TIMES in a six month period? That strikes me as something endemic to this particular Kroger, as I've never encountered this problem at any other store. Before typing this, I sat here at my desk for about twenty minutes wondering what kind of circumstances made it possible for so many occurrences of spoiled meat to make it to my kitchen counter. Were these circumstances the result of an embedded form of managerial incompetence to stop "shrink," whereby a customer suffering a deli-counter version of "buyer's remorse" carelessly plunks a package of raw meat on a warm shelf of baked beans and some hapless shelf stocker is then instructed to just shove it back in the cooler because the bacteria hasn't yet reached a sufficiently lethal dose for the store to incur legal liabilities? Is it because some delivery/truck driver was languishing in the hot sun at the service door with a cart piled chest high with assorted butchery gathering flies and moss because some clerk couldn't deign to grant him access to the back until the next black plague had sufficiently mutated among the death lurking in the shrink-wrap? I was so livid that I actually called the store and an apologetic night manager said that he would look into it, but I simply just don't believe him. This sort of thing has become "common" enough to raise all sorts of red flags which now draw my concern. For example: I'm reminded of an incident a couple of months ago, where I grabbed a shopping cart from within the doorway area where they stack them together and it had so many bird droppings on it that it reminded me of the White Cliffs of Dover. There is really something wrong with this particular Kroger, and perhaps by virtue of the repeatability of these things which keep happening to me an indication of a deeper malaise drifting down from the main office in Ohio or wherever the Eye of Sargon now hangs his coat. A customer should never have to puncture plastic wrap and sniff the meat if there is an expiration date upon it indicating enough time to drive to Disney World and the whole of the east coast afterward. Let the buyer beware here. And please... it isn't a matter of the store being unwilling to exchange it for another, hopefully, fresher package. They are. But I simply value my time and don't want to lug about a spoiled roast in my car, then wait in line at the service counter and drive back afterward. There are two other stores closer to me (An Albertson's and a WinCo), and I value my time. read more

The gentleman in the seafood department was very helpful and suggestive. I was having problems at the Self Checkout, the attendant who came over was extremely rude, it seemed like she did not want to be there. When she was talking to me, she would not even look my way, very unprofessional. I simply wanted to walk out without making my purchase. l chose not to do so as that would not have been appropriate. I decided to go through the cashier, which he was very friendly. Had it not been for her, I would have given 5 stars. She managed to downgrade 3 stars. I chose to go to the Self Checkout as the line was smaller, only to be treated quite harshly. More Cashiers would have been nice so that I could have avoided the employee at Self Checkout. read more

I got the crappiest treatment in this store today. Power hungry clerk overseeing the self checkout .... rude as hell, power hungry, round, butch haircut , super unpleasant girl. No thank you. I have shopped here for 7 years. Keep your groceries and nasty attitude. I will shop at CENTRAL MARKET ... better everything!!! I suggest you not waste your time. While operating on a small footprint, this store packs a powerful punch. Yes, watch the specials and count your coupons, but don't discount the employees as they they can make a huge difference in the day. During one evening shopping trip, I felt quite ill. Leave it to already busy employees to check my things, bag them and put them in my car. This, of course, had been in the "help yourself" line. i have shopped Kroger for many years and have generally appreciated their products and prices in all areas. Recently, i purchased some canned fruit from Kroger. Once home, i began to look at the cans and suddenly realized the label said "product of China". Our family has steadily begun to back away from Chinese products, concerned over safety of these products. So, discovering the fruit was a product of China is very, very disappointing. Although i appreciate most products Kroger offers, will definitely be staying away from the canned fruit aisle. read more

Went here this evening to buy groceries for the week. We normally go to TomThumb or Wal-Mart but we decided we'd give Kroger a try based on good reviews of produce from a co-worker. Our shopping experience was fine and we ended up buying $163.10 of groceries. The problem was that at 10:22pm there were no cashiers available, only self-checkouts that didn't even scan quick enough. I'm a fan of the self-checkouts for quick in and out but not when I have a full basket. It ended up taking like 15 minutes or so to scan our groceries with it constantly saying we are calling someone to help you. Multiple times I thought about just saying screw it and leaving the store without the merchandise but my wife was with me and not a fan of that idea. Due to the fact that there was no one to check me out I won't me back. I never have this problem at Tom-thumb and the shopping experience is similar. read more

It has to be somewhat odd, really, to be a conventional grocery store in today's shopping environment, what with all of the boutique and specialized options that are available to the discernible public. For that matter, you don't even have to be savvy these days to grab hold of a different brand experience than you're used to. That's where the public's mindset is, and that means more choices for consumers. So when you pop into Kroger, you may have a pretty good idea of what you're after. And there's precious little chance that what you're angling for is novel. There's a decent but not spectacular wine and beer section, a fair dispatch of produce (though to be fair that's seldom what I'm in for), and if you drop in late at night chances are there will be a skeleton crew. That likely has a little to do with being so close to the university, and I'd imagine that there may be some sort of seasonal shift to that end. Time will tell. But if I'm on the make for something I need, less inspiration, Kroger's an easy fix. read more

My default grocery store. It's close by and the selection of items--especially produce--is good. It's also open until 1 in the morning, which is additionally nice. If you drink, they have a good beer and wine selection for a chain grocery store. I prefer this Kroger to the one on McCart--partly because the University location is better laid-out and has a peanut butter machine (i eat a lot of peanut butter, it's cheap and it's filling, bite me); and partly because there's a much, much better chance you WON'T get harassed by people outside, asking you for money. Checking out is quick, too. Good overall place to shop if Trader Joe's and Central Market are too far and/or expensive. read more

This is pretty much my go to grocery if I don't want to deal with the hassle (and prices) of Central Market. The produce selection is very nice. Fresh and they have a good variety in the organic portion. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options- carrying some of the fake meats and products I used to have to go to Whole Foods for. The meat department is okay. Occasionally I find good steaks or pork loin. I do like the seafood department. Beer/wine selection is nice. Better than the average grocery. It can be heavy with TCU students so I try to stay away during peak hours. read more

I love that Kroger is so close to TCU! It is convenient and has all of things I need to try and maintain a healthy lifestyle. What's as important is having the pharmacy onsite. I went to pick my prescription up from the pharmacy on Sunday after church. As I was paying, the pharmacy technician remarked, "Those are a lot of ones! You must be a dancer." She assumed that I was an exotic dancer because I was paying for my medication with one-dollar bills. I was dressed conservatively, and had literally just come from church. Her remark was incredibly unprofessional, disrespectful, and uncalled for, regardless of how I was dressed. I felt deeply uncomfortable and mortified. I am still ill-at-ease because she point-blank profiled me, a paying customer, and have since changed pharmacies, and refuse to buy from here. read more

I like this Kroger. No sketchy characters hanging outside. They have the mechanism in place so no one can take their carts out of the parking lot. They have a good deli area, a lot of produce. Their sushi is pretty good and they're even starting to do poke! Employees are all nice & friendly. Customer service is great! Their prices can be a little high but they're ok overall. This Kroger is pretty good. Unfortunately they don't have a very big selection of cheese, but they make up for it with their big variety of nuts (chocolate covered almonds, Greek yogurt almonds, almonds :P ). As with any market you have to price check and get what's on sale, but produce is decent and staff is friendly.

Fresh produce, certified organic options, gluten free options and some of the produce is even grown right here in the lone star state. Their sales are also incredible - deeply discounted produce with the "manager's special" labels. I love a good deal. read more
