The down volume button was not working, which is also required with the power button to turn off. The lightning port was not working, so you could not charge or sync by cable. The ringer toggle switch was frozen in the off position so you could not hear if someone called or texted you. Basically it had experienced severe liquid damage from exceptionally sweet sugary liquid, and all that sugar had turned rock solid. The gentleman at VanCell diagnosed the issue on the spot. He suggested that the best fix was to replace the housing and charging port, which would be about 3 hours labour plus parts. By housing I mean the entire external part of the phone aside from the front glass, containing all the volume, power and ringer buttons. He literally had to open the phone, remove ALL the internal parts, re-install them in a new housing and then re-seal the entire device. That sounded pricey but the phone is relatively new and quite expensive. I was pleasantly surprised when he quoted me a net price of $190 pre-tax. It was closing time but he said he could do it the next day and have it done by afternoon. I picked it up at 4pm the following day and it literally looked and worked like a brand new phone. He had also thrown in a new screen protector to replace the cracked one I brought it in with. I had forgotten to bring the charging cord and block with me to bring to my brother, so I added them as well. The final bill for the parts and labour, screen protector, cord, charging block and tax was $240. That seemed extremely reasonable to me, as I'm an industrial electrician and would be billed out at WAY more than that for 3 hours labour plus materials. I live in New Westminster myself, but if I ever need work on my own phone I can't imagine ever going anywhere else. Everyone needs to know a few good, key trades people in life...a good plumber, electrician and mechanic, and in today's world of $1 to 2k flagship phones, a good smart phone technician. VanCell is that guy.

They kept giving me hope that I would receive a refund or compensation, but after wasting so much of my time and energy, they ultimately refused to do anything. I'm a trucker so I have more receipts/expenses than the rest of the public; I lost $50,000.00 in tax receipts because they were from multiple unfiled years. So it wasn't actually TAC's fault, but the sales manager there said he would try calling Telus himself to see what they could do, and when Telus refused to budge on the price (stating their fine print protects them), he came up with a creative solution within an hour (he had asked to call me back) that worked out very well for me. The other dealership I contacted first did not help me at all, though their sales people were congenial as well. Although this sales manager was the third person I spoke to at TAC, at no point did I feel I was being given the runaround. Instead, each salesperson genuinely wanted to be sure they had crossed all their t's and dotted all their i's before saying they couldn't help me, even though they didn't think anything could be done initially. I appreciate their honesty and commitment to their customers, and ultimately the solution they provided me with - I highly recommend that people deal with them if they are a Telus client.
