In Grapevine for a conference and could not leave without visiting Tolbert's which was highly recommended by a number of folks. Known for its signature Texas chili, I was not disappointed with my "bowl of red". No beans, just pure long cooked chili goodness. We also got the sampler platter of appetizers which was full of tasty hot items, the donkey tails and torpedos were the standouts. Both offered a unique flavor combination that I recommend. The rest of the items were fried wings and veges and nothing particularly special about them. I also got the chicken fried steak which I haven't had for years but the menu description just called me for some reason. I was a little disappointed but I think it is maybe I remember chicken fried steak with white gravy more fondly then the reality. Looking back I would have ordered it without gravy and poured that magnificent red chili on it instead. The environment was nice enough. Felt like a neighborhood bar that has been much loved for decades. Service was good but the mains were a little slow coming out. I would recommend Tolbert's to others interested in this kind of fare. read more

BOWL OF RED!!! OMGOODNESS delish! I am still new to Texas and I like beans in my chili. That being said, we will be back every time we are in Grapevine. Monkey loved the "Donkey Tails", I thought they could have used peeperjack chz or jalapeños, but good stuff! read more

The chips and salsa were tasty. The service was great. Everyone I was with tried the chili and loved it. I had the burgers with fries/onion rings. The burger had great flavor and was very juicy. I would definitely go back. The food is reasonably priced and there is plenty of parking across the street. read more

We stopped in for lunch one day while coming back from the airport. The restaurant is decorated comfortably and the service was good. We both ordered the chili and were pleased with our selection...better be as this is what they are known for. Great little place in downtown Grapevine to grab a bite to eat. read more

The pot roast was really yummy as well as the sweet potato fries. We didn't have the chili but asked for a sample and it deserves the rave reviews it gets! It had a kick to it!! read more

We tried several dishes off the appetizer section and some burgers. We found everything to be good. I thought the stuffed pepper poppers were good. The band was fantastic although I didn't care for the crowd. Rude people are just about everywhere these days, not Tolbert's fault. I didn't drink this night but my friends who did had no problem getting a beer when they needed one. read more

Stopped by early afternoon after checking out the local stores in Grapevine. It's not that it was the best choice around but it was Sunday and the better eateries were closed. Basically, it was a safe bet. The place was pretty empty. Service was dry to say the least. The place was pretty empty. The waitress seemed unhappy to be there, probably because she had to wait tables and bartend, though she always made sure I had plenty of water. I ordered the chicken fried chicken, which was decent. My friend had the chicken fried steak, which was extremely awful. I wouldn't go back again. I'm an adult now, far past the days of being satisfied by hang outs at Applebee's just to get away from the parental unit. I want real food and Tolbert's didn't cut it. read more

I love the relaxed atmosphere of this place. the menu has a variety of options and service is great. I went on a Friday night and I'm taking away a star only for noise. I like a quiet place where I talk and relax. they have a stage and a band and it gets way too loud for such a small place. If you into bands and listening to music and not being able to speak to or hear the person you are with, then you'll love it on band night. I just prefer to enjoy the company of the person I'm with. But what do I know, I'm just a poodle. read more

This place is good for one thing. CHILI! It's the Bomb! Live music on weekends at 9pm. I think they should start playing at 7pm to enjoy with dinner. That's it! The other food has weird portion sizes (tiny) and is nothing to write home about. However' I will write in this review that I appreciate the pick three sides plate. I was able to get 3 types of healthy things, and one greasy cup of delicious spicy chili. Chili chili chili read more

I reallylike the chile and i had the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato... Awesome. I liked the atmosphere too casual and fun.

Great food, atmosphere, and service! I had their Tilapia with mango salsa monthly special, it was delicious!! The tilapia was soft and flakey and the manga salsa had just the right amount of sweetness and spiciness. They play live music here everyday, with a different group/band everyday! Tolbert's is a must go to for dinner if you are spending the day in grapevine. read more

Good beer selection, good chili and good service. Live music was ok and a little loud. Sounds like some nights are better than others...the night i went the band played about 10 songs...one of them was "Wagon Wheel" which they played 2x. read more

Yummy! Their chili is SO good! I also had a $5 margarita, one of their specials. And they had a really fun band playing tonight. I had no idea that we'd get to hear such good music on a Monday night, so I was pleasantly surprised. They played allll classic rock. Thank you, Tolbert's, for making my Monday night so enjoyable. :) read more

Had today off so we thought We'd venture to Tolbert's to try the tasty "Five Alarm" chili as seen on the Food or Travel Network. It's supposed to be one of the hottest foods in America. I should've known not everything on TV is true bc the chili was neither hot nor tasty. I've had better chili at Texas Road House. We also ordered chicken strip for the kids, burgers and breaded wings for us. Wings and burgers weren't terrible but not worth the 40 minutes drive from Plano. The chicken strips could have used more meat. read more

Great chili, good music most nights, great for visiting, drinking and eating.

How can you ruin a grilled cheese sandwich? I don't care what y'all say, this place stunk. Chili was cold and sooooo salty. Grilled cheese was congealed and barely body temp. Maybe it's whoever cooks on Sunday? Shrill and annoying women caterwauling in unabashed and annoyingly shrill ear bludgeoning shreeks over the cowboys playing. read more

We stepped out of Great Wolf to catch dinner here and was it worth the time. We had the donkey tail appetizer , original red chili, and the tacos al carbon. The food was amazing. I put the chili above that of New Braunfels Phoenix Bar. Will definitely be back again the next time we're in Grapevine. read more

I visited Tolbert's with 3 friends on a weekday evening, and the experience was very disappointing all around. Server was unattentive and ignorant to the happy hour pricing policies, resulting in a bill that was much higher than I had anticipated. Food was mediocre at best - definitely not worth the money! To top it all off, I wrote to them to convey my dissatisfaction more than 2 months ago and have yet to receive a response. With so many GREAT restaurant options in Grapevine, I encourage both locals and visitors to PASS on Tolbert's and spend your money on a better establishment such as Willhoite's or Chill! read more

Great lil restaurant. You must try the chili. Best chili I've had in a long time. The live music is also great. This is a hidden gem in Grapevine and and is a must go to . read more

Took a large group to dinner on a Sunday night. All of us were new to Tolberts and had a great time. As everyone has noted, their chili is killer. True red chile chili is hard to find in Kansas City so I had to give it a try. It did not disappoint! Lots of the group got burgers topped with chili and raved about how good they were. Only complaint was that fries were undercooked. Others got the enchiladas and all gave them a thumbs up. I was very happy to see the large list of draft beers. It was a good selection of local brews and national micros. Don't make it to Grapevine very often, but when I do I'll be heading back to Tolberts. read more

Awesome service, great prices and happy hour deals. We arrived around four, which was perfect, it wasn't busy and we got our appetizers right away. Our burgers were the star of the show. The server was very attentive, but not bothersome. We love grapevine. read more

Great Texas restaurant. The chicken fried chicken is awesome. They use fried chicken batter instead of chicken fried steak batter which makes it extra crunchy and delicious. Their burgers and onion rings are also tasty. I will be back to try the chili which has great reviews. read more

I don't know why this place has great reviews. The chili tastes like chili from any other place that serves chili. The wait is very long both for a table and for the food once you get seated. We put our name in at 6:30, our table of 4 was sat at 7:24 and finally served dinner at 8:45 if that gives you an idea. This is for chili and soup. I give this place 2 stars because the atmosphere is cool and the prices are good. Definitely not worth waiting for though. read more

My husband took me to Tolberts, and we were blown away! Our food was so good we cleaned our plates. I had a Salmon dish, (can't remember the name) and I know I'll be back to have it again. The prices were fantastic for the quality of the food. It was noisy due to the live music (a country band), so if you actually want to speak to the person you are with this may not be the place for you. However, the live music was and very good and enjoyable and they were playing on a Wednesday night! We found that to be very surprising. Most places only do live music on Friday and Saturday nights. It had a "honky tonk" feel, but was very clean. A little crowded and noisy, but it's part of the atmosphere. You may just have to be in the right mood to enjoy it! If you are in the mood for some live country music in a honky tonk setting with some great food, this place is for you! read more

Friendly Texas atmosphere in the laid-back stroll way of Grapevine. this restaurant seems to be a hometown favorite.

I come here every Friday. The chili is amazing. I like it with beans and Fritos. The large bowl. Service is always great. Parking can be slow but a easy walk from downtown areas. read more

My husband & I went there on a Saturday night. He ordered the ribeye and I ordered the grilled salmon. The steak was just okay. My salmon was very dry and overcooked. The asparagus was still crunchy. It was okay. Will not return if ever in the area again. read more

First time here, and just for lunch with a large crowd, so did not get to experience all that they appear to offer. Saw a large selection of beers on tap, with lots of local crafts, so will need to go back for that, and to try chili, that is supposed to be really good. read more

If you're in the mood for casual with comfort food and live cover music, you've found the right place, right in Downtown Grapevine. Especially if you don't leave your house until 8:30pm on a weeknight and are looking for some local flair that is still open ;-). Skip the margaritas (awful), go for beer and enjoy the people-watching. Especially on Wednesdays. read more

Steak was good along with the side dishes. and the environment and music was very enjoyable. People enjoying themselves and all very nice. Mixed age group from 30's onwards. read more

Hostess was great and food looked awesome. Unfortunately we couldn't get a wait person to take care of us. Thankfully they WERE able to take care of the 2 tables that came in after us, which is what prompted our departure. read more

Loud, loud, loud. When restaurant want the historic look with the industrial ceilings they sacrifice a pleasant eating experience. If I'm at a bar with a band I don't expect to visit, but if I'm in a restaurant at 7 pm, I don't want to yell to talk to person next to me. read more

Decent place in the middle of town. Went in to try the famous chili. Got a BLT and a bowl of the famous 5 alarm red. Bread was over toasted and too crunchy and the chili was only about a 2 or 2 1/2 alarm. But still pretty good. read more

See all

We had dinner here tonight. My husband had the chili, which he said was good. I had the enchiladas with green sauce. It was just ok- nothing special. My kids liked the chicken fingers and BLT, but their fries were greasy and soggy. We aren't drinkers, but their drink specials looked good. Overall, this place wasn't anything special. We won't be back. read more

We been here twice in the passed month. The food great here but the service is lacking. We ordered chips, never got them. The first we asked if the BBQ had sugar on it, the waitress we are diabetics and that we can't have sugar. She makes it clear that it does not have sugar. Well two diabetics got ribs covered in sugar, good way to kill your customers. Had to reorder our whole dinner. Tonight i ask for diet coke and get reg coke, asked for the fish blacked and get grilled. When i tell waitress she offer to bring me the seasoning but not fix the order. Didn't say she was sorry. Sorry but putting seasoning on it does not fix the order, because the seasoning needs to be grilled into the fish. If you want great food this is the place but write the order down for your waitress otherwise it won't be right. read more

Love going here and hanging out with my friends and listening to cover bands. Great food as well :)

We had heard good things about this restaurant. I will say that our server did a fantastic job. We ordered a variety of entrees and appetizers. We had 15 in our party and the overwhelming opinion was that Tolbert's was underwhelming. Four of our party ordered the "famous" chili. None of the four finished their small bowl. The salads were iceberg lettuce out of a bag; the french fries and fried okra were obviously out of a frozen bag as well. There must be multiple hundreds of restaurants in Dallas that have better food. read more

Saturday for lunch. I like having The Red Dog with cole slaw. Service was not good. Lots of waiters but apparently not for my table. Took sometime before someone stopped to ask if I've been waited on. read more

OMG! I just had the most delicious chili burger! Seriously it was great! (Terlingua burger) It was topped with onion rings and came with a side (I picked mac n cheese) Service was great too! read more

Always good food and usually a good band....although if the prince tribute band is here don't come they are terrible. And I don't mean that any other way than they are the reason we're leaving. Funny thing "prince" came over to wilhoites to see why a band sounds like. read more
