I wouldn't really bat an eye if I see 2 Tim Hortons, 2 McDonald's or even 2 7 Elevens along the same street within a block or two apart. But, 2 Tokyo Sushis??? What are the odds? And common sense would tell us that this place has got to be good, right? Unfortunately, reality suggested that this place is neither good nor authentic (I've been told by someone that this one is the better of the two locations). My review is purely based on a chirashi lunch that I ordered. The sashimis despite tasting decent, were cut into varying, but yet inconsistent shapes. The salmon which was the best tasting of all the fishes was cut into pretty long slices with a short width. I can't see why it's done this way. The tuna was cut into probably the most appropriate dimension. The one measly piece of hamachi was so thinly sliced and so small that they might as well not including it. The cooked shrimp and octopus tentacle didn't taste like much and the octopus was way too tough and chewy. The rice was equally upsetting. I like the fact that they were quite liberal with the tobiko, but what's with the soya/teriyaki sauce on the rice??? I know this place is Korean owned, but if they are branding themselves to be a fusion Japanese restaurant, I can sort of understand the sauce. But, that's not what they are purporting themselves to be. The rice was also too strong on rice vinegar Although there aren't many Japanese options in the area, I don't think I'll order from this place again. read more

firstly you have to understand I am very picky about reviews and this is the first 5 star restaurant review I've ever given but it is well deserved and a long time coming. What makes Tokyo Sushi great? The price! Me and my wife get food for 2 every friday and its 6.75$ for both of us insane deal. It used to be about 5$. That is just such an unbeatable deal. The sushi itself is good. Some days noticeably fresher and better than other days and usually when theyre very busy the fish is fresher which makes sense but we happily have this every Friday. Also the staff are very nice aswell and know her by name. We usually have spicy salmon crunchy rolls. Great deal. read more

Tokyo Suishi is a nicely decorated restaurant. It has been closed for a long time, but recently reopened. It is a family run restaurant. I ordered the yakitori chicken and the salmon dinner. I thought that the restaurant was an average Japanese restaurant. The yakitori chicken was very good, but too much sauce. The salmon came on a sizzling hot plate which was unexpected. It was very good. Would I go back? The food was good, but rather expensive. read more

I have driven past it hundreds of times, but on the recommendation of a client - finally decided to try some rolls. I ordered the Tokyo and spicy salmon crunch rolls for takeout - delicious! The rolls were huge, perfectly rolled, fresh and so tasty. The staff were very pleasant and my order was ready quickly. Will be returning in the near future. read more

SERVICE: 5/5 Exceptional service. Friendly and courteous. The family that runs this restaurant is very sweet and nice. FOOD: 2/5 Mediocre quality of food at best. Sure, you get what you pay for. $5 maki are hard to come by in Toronto, let alone in this part of town. I suppose you get what you pay for. If you're after really cheap maki, then this place is hard to beat. If you're after quality and taste, then I would not recommend this place. In order to avoid confusion/mix-ups with the 'who ordered what' and 'you pay $5.83 and I pay 8.25,' we decided to order platters. I gave Tokyo Sushi the number of people, what we wanted, and a price - TS made it happen. I asked for everything to be ready by noon and it was. Found my new go to Resturant to order in from!! Their rolls are full of fresh ingredients and the ratio from rice to filling is on point. I would not categorize this place as an upscale sushi Resturant but it's affordable and great! I think they make most of their money from take out because it is never ever busy inside. The owners are super friendly and once they get to know you they'll start throwing in extra rolls. My friends and I got the sashimi sushi platter and it was so much food. The spicy salmon crunch and yam tempura stood out for me. Super impressed!!!!!! read more

One of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to. The service is always warm and welcoming and the food is fresh and expertly prepared. The rolls have a perfect rice-fish ratio and are always delicious, my favourite is the salmon lover's roll! Also very vegetarian/vegan friendly! Everything is very reasonably priced especially for a sushi restaurant. I've lived in the area for a while now and have seen many restaurants close due to ongoing construction nearby. I really hope this one doesn't! Highly recommend this place :) read more

Love this place. The owners are very nice and always do that little extra for their customers. The sushi is very good and very fresh.

It may not be the cheapest sushi joint but I found I was paying just a little extra for some of the finest sushi I have ever tasted. That, and the chef and waitstaff were superfriendly and efficient.. Definitely worth a look. read more

Best maki I've ever had! The green dragon is great, has so much shrimp and the veggies were very fresh. Teriyaki chicken is alright, though there was a bit too much sauce and was a fairly small portion for the price. Would definitely recommend for the sushi and maki! Take-out 4/5 stars... Dine-in 2/5... Overall 3/5... I've tried other sushi joints in this hood, and this has been consistently the best by far -- for Take-out. I am very disappointed to say I did not enjoy my Dine-in experience, though it has nothing to do with the food. Went in for a quick lunch, ordered some salmon sashimi and a glass of Chardonnay. The waitress took forever to get my wine, and when brought to me she zipped away before I could speak. It was very clearly NOT wine, it looked and smelled like apple juice, the pour was excessive as well I'm guessing in hopes of disguise? I called her over to inquire what type of wine it was and suddenly her English was not so good. She disappeared into the back room and surfaced with a properly poured glass of actual Chardonnay. I must point out I was seated at the counter, right beside the wine fridge, I had seen her remove a bottle of Chardonnay that had about a glass worth left. I took a sip of both, but didn't end up drinking either, I figured she punched in a wine and poured it for herself and intentionally passed off the juice as wine to me. I should have complained to the owner or manager, but I was quite frankly astounded. I will not be dining there again, on the fence about the Take-out now as well. Shame. read more

Unfortunately this restaurant has been closed for just over a year since it had a fire in 2014. We really miss this popular and excellent sushi restaurant. The food was always great value, beautifully prepared and served by the owner and his wife. There are now building permits on the window but there is no indication that the same restaurant will reopen. read more
