If you have been to any good hibachi restaurant, this place will probably let you down. I've been to Tokyo more than once. For the money, I'll never go again. My wife and I went originally to Tokyo to celebrate her birthday. The atmosphere was a bit tacky but you can get over that. We had a chef that had a good time putting on his show. Spoiler Alert: his favorite joke is "... this is my last day here..." His knife work was on point (pun intended) and he was very creative with the sake. The actual food was TERRIBLE. Over salted, over cooked. If it had not been for the dipping sauces, it would have been inedible. I thought that nothing could compare to how bad the meal was until I we went back. Long story short.. My son and I used to go to this place often. The last few times we have been there it's been off. My son orders the same thing every time he goes there. Hibachi chicken and steak. They forgot the chicken so they said we can cook some in the back and bring it out. I said ok that's fine but then when the bill came they charged me for it claiming they gave him a full steak at the hibachi table which was untrue. The lady argued with me and was very rude. I also gave an additional tip and didn't notice they added 18% gratuity just for 2 people. We will never go back there again. Just ok. Nothing to write home about. Almost not worth wasting my time on this review. I have been here before and had better food but noting that jumps out at me. I ordered the chicken udon soup and it was about the most bland thing I have ever eaten. It came out so hot it was impossible to eat without burning my mouth. Lesson learned. I arrived at Tokyo at 9:47 pm, 01/09/2020. When I got there I waited for someone to seat me for over 5 minutes and no one ever came over so I walked to the service desk and the guy running the desk was immediately rude with me and asked "what do you need?". I said I was there to eat and wanted a booth and he told me that they were closed. I informed him that their website says they close at 10:30 and then he turned around and said that there was no food and they have ran out of all food for the night. Poor Customer Service! The food here is ok, but the customer service sucks. I placed a call in order today at 6:16pm. I was told that the order would take 20min. When I arrived 22 min later, 6:38pm, my food was not ready. No big deal. A gentleman placed his carry out order after I arrived. I watched him place his order, pay, and leave. His food was ready before mine! I received my food at 7:00pm!!! The manager did not apologize for the accessive wait time of 45 min for a carry out. She was rude actually. read more

We moved here a few months ago from Douglasville thinking that we would be able to find restaurant here in Newnan about the same as Duruma our favorite restaurant. Unfortunately I have given up after 2 visits. The food here at Tokyo was bland and very poor quality! The service was slow, yet we were rushed half way our meal by our server who twice interrupted our meal wanting to bring us take home containers even before we were done and not even offering a dessert! To pay over $100 for a dinner then feeling rushed out and no being offered a desert is very poor service! Next time I will drive over half an hour and go to Duruma in Douglasville! From the outside this place doesn't look like much, inside is no different, however I will say my family of 3 was seated quickly at the hibachi table and the we didn't have to wait long at all before our chef Jerome began our hibachi cooking/show. I had the chicken hibachi, my boyfriend the shrimp and chicken, and my son (a picky eater) had the steak. We were all very impressed with the taste of our meals..so much we came back for more hibachi the next day! read more

This place is horrible. They served me three rolls with black avocado in them. They told me it was nothing wrong with that and it had just been sitting out. How can you not see something wrong with that? They made sure I brought the receipt and the food back to replace my meal. Of course I didn't eat this crap. I generally like Tokyo, so I will give it two stars. However on this evening I walked in for a birthday party for 10-year-old, the host would not let us sit inside the restaurant. When we wanted to order appetizers and drinks for the people that were here. They informed me, the only adult that I could go to the bar to order drinks. That would leave the two children with me unaccompanied and dressed in Cub Scout uniforms after coming from a September 11 remembrance. This used to be our goto place for rolls and hibachi. A little over a year ago we noticed a major staff change which made us wonder if ownership changed. During this time we have noticed the food quality and overall experience nose dive. Today was the final nail in the coffin. We ordered mushroom soup with tofu and four different rolls. The soup was flavorless and the tofu nearly nonexistent. The four rolls were just terrible. Nothing tasted fresh and two of them were so fishy tasting we decided not to eat them. Have been frequenting this place for 3 yrs. In all the time my wife and I have been going there, I don't believe we've ever gotten a heartfelt thank you or barely even a smile when we pick up our to-go orders. That's all ok as long as the food we typically ordered (sushi) was pretty good to very decent quality. The past few months though, we've noticed the quality of the sushi going down. Tonight we picked up an order that we frequently have and, frankly, it was nearly inedible. Easily my wife's and my favorite restaurant. We eat here weekly. Sushi is excellent: consistent, clean and fresh. Salmon is some of the best I have had in any restaurant in the Atlanta area. We have also discovered the Black Dragon roll which often brings out the sushi chef's creativity with sauce designs and, one time, a dragon head carved from a carrot! This roll carries a punch with the pepper. Prices are good particularly if you take advantage of the many specials - half price roll afternoons and lunch roll specials. Food is never over salted. We like having control over salt. If you need more salt, there is plenty of soy sauce. :) And the staff is pleasant and attentive. Feels like eating Sushi at home. Highly Recommended! read more

As a first time customer, I hate giving this place only two stars. The atmosphere was very inviting and the interior of the restaurant was okay. We sat in a both, as I wasn't in the mood for the communal grill experience. We both had the Habachi Steak & Chicken, and the Shrimp & Scallops. Our salads and Miso soup were both bland. The Ginger dressing needed a serious kick, Mustard based Ginger didn't work for me. The Miso soup was okay, but needed more Miso. All of the grilled items were okay, hot and fresh. The only problem was the Yum Yum dipping sauce was extremely bland. I googled a recipe when I got home for the left overs, and made that, which was much better. The lobster cha cha is definitely worth waiting for! I've never had such tasty Lobster tempura and it was rolled with egg crepe. The salmon lover appetizer special with spicy tuna was also absolutely excellent. Both of these items were not on the menu, they were on the special Sushi appetizer wall by the hostess stand. My boyfriend and I went out for a nice date night. We usually go to Sumo's but they were closed. We showed up at Tokyo at 9:45 and immediately felt unwelcome by the hostess texting while we were needing to be seated. The waitress was obviously disturbed by something judging by her body language and tone of voice. My guess is they were mad we got there late but is an hour and fifteen minutes before they close late to them? I have had the pleasure of dining at Toyko a couples times. It has never failed at great service, good food, and a fun enjoyable environment. If your kids do not like fire, do not bring them to this restaurant. Toyko is in a wonderful and very accessible location. On typical busy nights, there is a rather small wait but it is definitely worth the waiting around for. I personally have never tried the sushi but it looks superb. Hopefully next time I dine in at Toyko I will indulge in some spicy tuna rolls. read more

My husband and I love this place! Here's some objective info: Price Point: Moderate - going for lunch is substantially cheaper for the same portions just without the free 2-3 shrimp. Serving Size: Generous Food Quality: Good-Great. I'd say great but we noted a few times that there is an inconsistency. Some chefs do tend to under-season. They have amazing yum-yum sauce though! Service Levels: Average. Nothing special in the service levels. If we had not frequented the place so much I'd say it was severely lacking however we built up a bit of a rapport with a couple of the cooks. A couple of the cooks are just "meh". Serving staff are not what I'd call great. It really is a matter of who cooks your food I think. We just really enjoy the food though so we switched off to this aspect of the restaurant I guess. If this was a huge factor for us I'd give the place 3 stars instead of 4. They do allow takeout though and have amazing fried rice, and it's totally reasonably priced so it is an easy pickup for a side. read more
