Adequate experience for satisfying hunger in a hurry. Wasn't hoping for extraordinary but was hoping for tad better experience. Positive food came out steaming hot. Presentation was adequate but on Styrofoam plate for dine in with plastic fork. Considering that place wasn't super busy but rather slow, the tables could have been cleaner and more aligned. First table saw coming in needed touchup. I informed order taker at counter that could use attention as doesn't create the best 1st impression. She handled it after taking my order. Pleasant but possibly shy, on the quite side so hard to read emotion. So details could improve impression, for example table , chair orientation could be sharpened during quite times. Not sensing abundance of energy on the front end operations, kitchen seems more energetic. Plenty of natural light (windows) and basic outside seating option are pluses. Also drive through window seemed amply busy. Can see the kitchen and they appear on it. Loved the wall murals. Prices reasonable considering prices at all places are up and bit higher than here. I got noodle hibachi chicken. The chicken looked good with seasoning but not overly flavorful, not tender (possibly on the the bit dry side which is okay when think it can translate to being on the safer to eat scale) when eat, so adequate. Noodles and carrots also adequate also. Again all together my 1st experience at this location equates to eat cause hungry place. So middle of the road experience seems to be the design, don't expect exceptional flair that some Japanese restaurants go for. No great entertainment value. But did I get value for the price, yes. Could I eat here again, yes. Would I crave this place if treating myself was the object, not as much. Do I leave satisfied answer is adequate yes. -- P. S: Parking lot has ample spaces, drive through does good volume, though cramped amount of pavement for it that butts up to neighboring business. I grabbed two combo plates to go, using the very convenient drive through. The food is pretty good for what it is. Reasonably priced and the staff is always very kind. I ordered a chicken/steak combo and mushrooms...nothing too crazy. I received about 2oz each of steak and chicken diced to about a quarter inch-this caused the meat of both proteins to be extremely dry unfortunately. I did not receive my mushrooms...no biggie...I went up to the counter to ask for the mushrooms and the manager became extremely combative (over mushrooms ) instead of just correcting the mistake. The bathrooms are dirty and smell like buttered popcorn....not what a restroom should smell like. It was dried pee. Kind of looked like a scene from one of the Saw movies. this is the greatest place that I have been to. For a quick hibachi. I used to eat here 20 years ago almost every day when I lived in the area. Now when I come through, I wait until I get here wait two hours after lunch because I knew I was close enough to get in here. This is the steak and shrimp, hibachi, and one of my favorites. I LOVE the food here! Me & my kids eat here at least once each week, which is why I'm giving this review. We always do pick up, so are limited to drive up window interactions with staff, so we can earnestly suggest to get the pregnant girl out of there! We went through yesterday and had ask her a question concerning the menu, then said, "okay, wellll". I'm not talking about holding a well for 10 minutes when she puffed, slammed the window right in my face & got up to stomp off!! . 2 minutes later she's back & clearly not happy with us! Uhhhh, this plate (for lunch) is $19 and change lol. Typically portions are great at Asian Cuisines but the online menu prices we found are obviously quite outdated. I'd hope for a bit more than about 10 mini pieces of steak and some chicken with plain noodles. Asked for no veggies and just rice, but charged for a whole side of rice. After sitting in line back out into the Main Street for 20 minutes we finally made it to the window. I asked for a chicken plate with only veggies. Got a roach in my meal. I ordered two things of food. I brought back the meal with the roach in it as proof but we just threw the other meal in the garbage because they shared the same ingredients and who knows where the roach came from. I love the food at Tokyo Express, but the service is no longer "Express." I enjoyed calling in my order then picking it up at the window. A change in policy now won't allow for call in orders if you don't have at least three orders. It would be fine if they were faster. I've lived in Salisbury for years and Tokyo Express used to be my favorite restaurant. A while ago, I noticed that the food had gone downhill. I decided to give the place another try and was disappointed. The steak is tough and chewy and not cooked thoroughly. The rice is bland with no flavor and they give you a few pieces of vegetables that are not large at all. My stomach was very upset after eating here.
