Located in the brewery area. This restaurant offers a variety of different Ramen specials. The service is prompt and courteous. Just be aware of the sign above the door. They only service while quantities last. The sign has either soup or no soup. The ambiance inside is modern and minimal. I ordered the veggie Ramen which was decent. A little bit bland. My partner got the garlic pork Ramen. They found it delicious. Be aware that this restaurant only accepts debit or cash.

I have yet to go to another ramen place in the city that outranks this one in terms of flavour, quality and portions. I have been coming here for 5+ years but I have yet to try the whole menu because I can't get past the spicy goma. The spicy goma broth is hearty and has a depth of pork, you can tell they boil the broth for hours to get that sweet umami from the pork. The spicy goma doesn't come with char sui but the ground pork compote they put on top of it is mouthwatering, you won't even be thinking of the char sui. The pork rice bowl come with their pork, rice, sweet teriyaki and a ton of green onion. The onions definitely balance out the richness of the pork and sweet teriyaki, definitely get this is you are on the hungrier side. The yuzu shio is a very bright ramen, it has a very strong citrus lemon taste throughout. I only have little tastes because I can't get over the spicy goma. If you are looking for outstanding ramen in Edmonton come here!

I was in town and was craving a bowl of ramen. I found this restaurant after a quick search. There was a line up already at noon. I put my name down and we waited about half an hour before we were seated. After looking over for menu, I decided on black garlic pork soup and gyoza to share. Food arrived fairly quickly. The first sip of the broth was amazing. The broth was flavourful and full of depth. It was simply delicious. The pork charshu was a bit thin, but was seasoned well. Hiding in the broth was half a soft boiled marinated egg. No complaints on the egg as I enjoy a soft yolk. The rest of the toppings were decent (ie wood ear mushroom, bean sprouts, green onion and bok choy). The bou gyoza were fried perfection. The filling was tasty with a slightly crispy exterior was great. Service was great. Staff checked in on us fairly often to refill water and clear up finished bowls. After dining here, I think this is the best ramen restaurant I have tried in Edmonton so far.

This place was packed, it was around 2pm on a Monday and we were not expecting that. Just finished a 2 hour float in a deprevation tank, so we wanted to get some good electrolytes in our body. It did the job

Came here Saturday 12:30PM. Place was full and we had to wait 15minutes to get a table. Place is quite small and your quite close to your neighbours. My friend who took me also said there is a "shared" table where you sit at the same table next to complete strangers. We also got 2 cups of the Genmaicha - green tea with roasted brown rice. Lovely flavor but environment kind of makes you feel rushed as staff are asking if you are done and there is a line of people waiting. Genmaicha was a great flavorful tea. Friend recommended the Goma Goma so I got it. 10/10 best ramen. The Nikumiso (chopped pork) was sooooo flavorful (don't forget to mix it into the soup for added flavor) but each bite that had a chunk of pork was bursting with flavor. Friend got the Spicy Goma which looks exactly the same but spice was wayyyy to much for me. He was sweating so it definitely had kick. Noodles were good but very long and messy and we both ended up with sauce on our shirts! Overall 100% recommend this place for ramen but be early, be prepared to wait outside, and cash or debit only!

Most ramen tastes the same to me, but here, the ramen just tastes better. You can really tell the quality of the food. The broth is creamy and the noodles are portioned well. The service is actually super quick - the only thing I'd note is it can get super busy and you might have to put your name on a waitlist. I had the black garlic (which is the same as the Tokyo one except it has garlic oil) and it was very garlicky - I love garlic so I was a fan, but if you're looking for a subtle garlic taste you might not enjoy this. Overall, definitely would recommend!

Nice Ramen Spot! I was travelling and craving some Ramen while in Edmonton and found this gem on Yelp. Will definitely recommend. RESTAURANT: Located in a nice plaza, we came by on a weekday afternoon and had a short 15-20 minute wait. The restaurant is modern and Uber clean. Quite long so can seat a good amount of folks. FOOD: A great selection of ramen, with a number of combinations I hadn't seen before so kudos for being bold with the selection. We ordered a more common black garlic ramen and a yuzu one. Both of which we were really happy with!

Thanks to the recommendation of my lunch date and dear friend, today's dining destination was @tokiwa_ramen in the Brewery District... a super cool, intimate and cozy, minimalist-chic ramen joint. She had told me it was the best in the city, so we had to put it to the test. (Spoiler alert, it lived up her her hype) It is immediately apparent that this is THE ramen spot from the moment you walk in- the place is bumpin'! The service was extremely quick. I had the spicy miso with chicken. We were in and out in less than an hour, having enjoyed delicious flavourful Japanese ramen with soup stock made daily in limited batches. I love knowing there's real love and care going into this soup. This really felt like warm and cozy comfort food.... And I will 1000% be back.

I am clearly on a ramen kick at the moment and I can think of no better type of food to be touring! Last week I wrote about where ramen began in Edmonton and this week I'm writing about where it has ended up. We're bringing out the big guns with Tokiwa, widely regarded as the best ramen shop in the city. They've only been open a few years but in that time have indisputably risen to the top. CBC Edmonton's Best Restaurants 2019 list named them one of the Best of Oliver and 124th Street and EDify Magazine awarded them Best Soup 2022. The Oliver (Brewery District) restaurant operates with a "no funny business" attitude: they either have soup or they don't. There's even a neon sign that lights up to say "NO SOUP" when they are sold out for the day. Which happens basically every day. If you want to ensure that your ramen dreams come true, I would recommend showing up right when they open - which is at 11am every day. Tokiwa isn't a place for dinner, as they close at 3pm and are usually sold out before then. I showed up at 10:45am on a Sunday and no one had begun to line up yet. Moments later, some people started standing by the door so I hopped out of my car and took my place in the queue. By time the doors opened fifteen minutes later there was a lineup down the side of the building and not everyone was able to be seated. If you don't want to get stuck waiting and you don't want to risk the sad "NO SOUP" sign, my advice is to roll up shortly before they open for the day. The restaurant space is small, minimalistic, and modern. There's a contrast between pale and black wood which keeps things very clean and straight forward. The open kitchen is firing on all cylinders, constantly. The restaurant contains roughly 10-15 tables plus the bar seating by the kitchen, and let me assure you that every single seat will be occupied. The room is bright and the aroma in the air is tantalizing. Being that I was able to get myself into the door second in line, I was seated right away and tended to immediately by the friendly and efficient servers. With a table by the window, I had a front row seat to just how many people were trapped waiting outside, waiting for their turn. It was a lot. The first thing that I did was select a beverage. Genmaicha tea (my favourite) is available, as are several beer and sake options. However, I loved the idea of the Cold Brew Unsweetened Tea (Fukasmushi (Green) - $3.50) which sounded ideal for our warming spring weather (plus mouthfuls of hot soup!). The glass was large and I was surprised by the lime-green colour! Specks of tea swirled within and each sip was cool and refreshing. The flavour of green tea was light and enjoyable, without being too overpowering. The fact that it was not sweetened at all was my ideal preference. They also offer this drink in an organic houjicha black tea if green isn't your bag. Obviously, the whole entire "thing" at Tokiwa is the ramen, however I was curious about what else they serve. There are a few rice bowls to choose from and one "appetizer, "which I decided to order. The Bou Gyoza (4 pieces (pork) - $6.50). Every culture has a dumpling and Japan has gyoza! I liked the unique shape of these gyoza! Most of the time they will be served in that half-moon shape and these ones seemed more easy-going, which I like. They're just fast and loose and getting shit done at Tokiwa! The golden rectangular dough encased a delicious and savoury pork combination and were easy to eat. I loved dunking my bites into the gyoza sauce. These felt simple, yet delicious, and a great way to round out the meal. Next, of course, was the reason why people line up. Prepared in-house daily using quality ingredients that are locally sourced whenever possible and created in limited batches: It's ramen time. Tokiwa offers two base soups; a ten hour pork soup and a six hour chicken soup. From these stocks they are able to serve ten different ramen options, all with different flavour profiles and spice levels. I knew that for my first visit I wanted to try the ten hour pork soup but I didn't know which one to choose! I'd heard that the black garlic one was very good, but after asking the server which one was the most popular (and noting that almost everyone around me was eating it) I decided to choose the Spicy Goma (Moderately spicy goma goma - $16.50). The ramen comes with wood ear mushrooms, a half boiled egg, bean sprouts, Shanghai bok choi, and green onion. The spicy goma also comes with nikumiso (chopped pork) and a chili oil drizzle, and is generally one of the spiciest soups on the menu. Lucky for me, I am way into spice! This soup looks fiery and dangerous from the first moment that you set your eyes on it. I couldn't wait to dig in! Grabbing my wooden ladle, I began to sip the broth itself, the most important and labour-intensive component in ramen. I loved it. It packed a lot of heat but also contained a beautiful depth of flavour.

Tokiwa Ramen is located in the brewery distract of downtown Edmonton. Despite being downtown, they have excellent parking above ground or heated underground! This ramen shop has limited hours from 11am-3pm and they tend to sell out quickly. I recommend that you get here right at opening, otherwise you'll have to wait outside (even during the winter). The line moves fairly quickly but it's something to keep in mind. So far I've tried the Goma Goma and Black Garlic Ramen. I like both but if you favor spicy flavors, go for the Goma Goma. I find myself craving Tokiwa often. It might just be the best ramen in Edmonton!

Best ramen I've ever had! We arrived right when they opened and were seated immediately. Service was quick and efficient. The Goma Goma was the perfect ramen for those wanting no spice. The Spicy Goma had a good balance of spice for those who don't mind a little kick. We also had the Bou Gyoza, which were very flavourful and delicious.

It is very rare that this place has no waiting line so i went for it. Was absolutely surprised that only one table was occupied. Had tonkotsu ramen. Same taste as before. Only difference now is thay you have to use disposable cutleries - wooden chopsticks and plastic soup spoon. I guess due to covid. It wasnt a big deal - just saying. Service was great - the guy was attentive and checked up on things occassionally. Still a cash/debit-only place. Thus, the 4 stars. On this day and age, establishments should already be able to accept credit card payments.

Very busy place on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch! Got our names on a list and waited make 15 minutes which wasn't terrible since there are lots of other shops to pop in/out of. Simple decor but clean. Service was friendly and efficient and our waitress answered all our questions. Got the spicy Goma with an extra half egg. There was extra chili oil on the side if you wanted more of a punch! Perfectly chewy noodles

The restaurant itself is clean. Not memorable in terms of looks. Reminded me of a fast food establishment. Not comfortable seating. Menu is full of different ramens with a few drinks and appetizers. However what I didn't like is they seperate them into gold, silver or house specials which I think is unnecessary and makes ordering cumbersome. Also, I feel a bit manipultive because do you want a "gold" dish, or just a silver dish.My kiddo and hubby decided on the Gold Kome Cha-Shu, while I went with the Miso Curry. We also decided on the crunch tofu salad, and an order of Ikageso (squid). Food came out quickly. The Crunch tofu salad was delicous. The contrast of the cold tofu with the crispy onion chips mixed with the japanese soy sauce was a delight. It was also a great portion. The Ikageso was good as well. Squid was tender and there was a nice batter. However the sauces made it hard to eat. The ramens came. They were decent enough. The noodles were still springy which I appreciated. However I found the broth to be a little disappointing and considering that they are in the higher end - over 16 bucks. And apparently the gold broth is a stronger flavour. So I can't imagine what the silver would taste like. It was fine. But unless I was in the area, I would not go to this establishment

It's wonderful to have so many options available and one of those is Kazoku Ramen in the west end area of Glenwood. The Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list named this restaurant as one of their Favourite Date Night spots and I was very excited to find out how they compare to the other big ramen shops in town. Visiting on a Monday evening, the restaurant was busy and bustling, indicative of it's popularity. Almost every table remained occupied for the duration of my visit. The location isn't exactly the greatest part of the city, however you'll find them in a strip mall directly next door to perennial favourite Bucas & Pastas (have you had the pasticcio??). Kazoku is immediately recognizable by their red awning and this theming remained excellent on the inside. Stepping through the door the aroma of broth tantalized my senses and I couldn't wait to taste the food. My eye was drawn to the incredible mural on the wall, which I absolutely loved!! It's of a city skyline with an adorable cartoonish Godzilla eating a naruto (a type of fish cake). The artwork is striking and looks amazing with the red lanterns hanging throughout the restaurant and dark wooden beams. They've done a wonderful job of creating an amazing atmosphere that you wouldn't necessarily expect from a strip mall! Kazoku means family in Japanese and this family business strives to only serve food that they would serve to their own family. The focus is on authentic ramen made with the freshest ingredients, creating delicious melodies of tastes and colours. Our server was prompt and efficient but I did find her to be quite curt and uninterested in answering many questions or offering recommendations. I was happy to order a Japanese Cream Soda (Melon flavour soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - $6.50) to drink, a beverage that I've seen on Japanese menus before and was happy to find here. The colour alone is a lot of fun and we enjoyed slurping on the deep green liquid. The soda tasted sort of citrusy to me and not as much like melon. But when you get the ice cream in the mix it's all very sweet and joyful. (An ideal treat for kids.) Next, we grabbed an order of Edamame (Soy beans sprinkled with coarse sea salt - $4.50) because you can't go wrong with some tasty beans. Bright green, well-cooked, and nicely salted. We happily popped these into our mouths and enjoyed the tender beans within. Edamame always feels like snacking, except in a healthy way. The menu features several types of appetizers and tempura but I zeroed in on the Takoyaki (Fried wheat balls with octopus in the center topped with tonkatsu sauce, mayo, nori, bonito - $13.00), a favourite of mine. Complete with dancing bonito on top, these takoyaki balls appeared to be entirely legit. I am certain that the restaurant is using a specialized takoyaki pan, which is what creates their perfectly spherical shape. Biting into the golden-crispy balls, these were almost identical to what I'd experienced on the streets of Osaka. Crisp on the outside but very soft on the inside with a piece of tender octopus hidden within. The sauces on top added a lot of flavour as did the shaved bonito. These were really good and one of the highlights of the meal for me. Ramen, of course, is Kazoku's specialty and with twelve types on the menu they've got a ramen for everyone. Heavy to lighter broths are offered and the menu does a good job of describing the type of broth to expect in each. I couldn't help but notice some stark similarities between the ramen at Kazoku and the ramen offered at Japanese ramen chain Santouka (my favourite ramen of all-time), including the appearance of shio ramen (my favourite!). They also have a chili goma which I usually love, full of spicy chili oil. However, for my first visit I felt that I should experience the Kazoku (Char siu, full soft-boiled egg, nori, bamboo shoots, corn, black fungus, bean sprouts, toasted sesame, green onion, naruto - $18.50), the restaurant's namesake bowl. Unexpectedly, the server asked if we wanted pork belly or shoulder for our char siu and I have never encountered this option before. Looking for some guidance on which to choose, the server offered little (none) information on the difference between the two. We chose pork belly as that seemed to be the cut of char siu that we were more familiar with. Made with a lighter pork broth, the depth of flavour was alright but I did find myself longing for something a bit more robust. I wasn't all that impressed with the char siu overall. As a BBQ pork, I found the slices incredibly thin (they should be quite thick!) and completely lacking in caramelized BBQ char. The meat was underdone and full of wet, uncooked fat. The noodles were great; nice and loose and tender. The ajitama (egg) was nicely prepared with an ideal jammy yolk, although a bit more marinaded seasoning would have been
