    Very dirty glass
    Miss R.

Walked in and wasn't even greeted, then was asked rudely "for how many people"  asked for water and the bottle was so dirty. Ordered the chicken bowl and the meat tasted foul and fishy. I asked for a water bottle and even the bottle was so disgusting and dirty. The restaurant was filthy as well as the bathrooms. I almost puked paid my bill and left.

We drove into town from Calgary and this was our first stop. We placed our order after scanning the QR code for their menu. We ordered pan-fried gyoza, chicken karaage, tonkatsu black garlic ramen with an egg and miso ramen with pork belly and shoulder with an egg. Our server came back to inform us they had ran out of gyoza. This was 5 pm on a weekend so I was surprised they would run out so soon. The restaurant was packed so I assume this is a fairly popular restaurant. The rest of our order arrived after a short wait. The ramen is alright. It is not the best broth I have tried, but it was solid for what it was. The pork belly was nicely seasoned and grilled. There was a decent amount of noodles. The soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked. That was the highlight to this meal.

The ramen was sooo good! And very decently priced! No complaints here. Service was good too. I will be coming back.

Always game to try new ramen places so as soon as the hype died down on the newly opened Menjiro, we were prompt and early to make it to their doors at 4pm. After a couple attempts before with their wonky hours in the beginning we were surprised to see that there were already diners in there and finishing up their meal as we were just walking in at 4pm. Wait... what? With only 3 tables to cater to, including us, the server was friendly enough to let us choose our seats, there's a lot more space and seating than I was expecting. The painted mural was super cute with the theme rolling towards their menus as well. Specializing in chicken broth instead of the norm of pork base. I didn't know what to expect flavor wise. Jumped on my comfort base and ordered the Black Garlic - ($14.5) - First glance looked like my normal ramen bowl. First con might be the fact that they opted for pork shoulder instead of pork belly, which maybe made me not like how "untender" my meat slices were. Typically when chashu is served, it's super soft to the touch and you're able to slurp it all down with noodles. This had a bit of bite to it which is fine. Just not what I would have chosen. The black garlic favor didn't fully come through so I added a ton of the chili spices that was on the table. which in the end made my bowl super tasty. But the aftermath of all that msg and salt made me super dehydrated and in need of a dozen cups of water. (learn from my mistakes ya'll) Nostalgic Japanese Shoyu - ($14) - noticed the price difference as I'm writing this review that the only topping missing from this was maybe the extra half of the egg, is half an egg .50cents? I really liked the broth more on this, creamier and actually came off more rich in flavor. Deep Fried Gyoza - ($6) - served with a side of spicy mayo, this was little bits of deep fried goodness, filling was super juicy. Overall, my experience at Menjiro was decent. Does Not beat Tokiwa in my opinion but they've got alright bowls, maybe just need to try out a few more to see which would be a favorite. Welcome to the ramen community Menjiro!

Menjiro is a new Ramen place that recently opened on the south side of Edmonton. This place is under the same management as Nudoru Ramen on Whyte Avenue. What differs this place from other ramen places is the fact that they use a chicken broth to prepare their ramens instead of the traditional pork broths. We went during the first few days of their soft opening. We ordered their takoyaki, spicy miso and black garlic ramen first. The takoyaki was tasty and cheesy. They were average size and didn't have the flakes you typically find on takoyaki. Between the two ramen, I liked the spicy miso the best (it's what they recommended too). The spicyness really enhanced the flavor of this dish. The black garlic ramen was average. The chicken in both the ramen were noticeably different from the usual pork ramen. I felt it was quite healthy becuase it was the lean type of chicken you typically find in salads. No fatty meat which may be a pro or con depending on your taste. The portion size of the ramen are on the smaller side. You may still be hungry after one bowl. As a result, we ordered the Pork Cha-su Bowl. Now this dish was delicious and pushed this review to get the 4/5 rating or else it would have been a 3. I actually think it was better than the ramen! The pork was so tender and well seasoned! It paired really well with the rice and was the best dish of the night. Definitely recommend this dish.

I thought the ramen was great. All the ingredients were noticeably fresh and flavourful. Even the scallions were plump and crunchy. I think they figured out the service issues other reviewers mentioned. My order was taken quickly and the food came out came out fast and hot. Cha shu pork belly was a little too bacon-y for my liking. Grill marks on one side made for an attractive presentation but I want meat. I preferred the pork shoulder. Noodles were nice and chewy but a little thin. They were not the star of this bowl but they didn't detract from the experience. The added egg is worth the cost. Possibly the best egg I've had. The yoke was so creamy and soft. The prices are fabulous. $11 for the base Tonkotsu Black Garlic plus $1.25 for a whole marinated egg (not half; worth it). Also, they have a 10-stamp card for return customers so that ups the value even more. There are so many places charging far more for far less.

Chicken kaarage with yuzu ginger sauce

I've been craving Ramen for a long time, like way too many months. Call it laziness on my part I guess, it's not inconvenient to get or potentially make (although the latter is much more labour intensive). I hopped on Yelp as I do when trying to find restaurants near me, and this one seemed on the up and up. So we placed our order and went for some pick up, at the time they didn't have a dine in option. The pickup was flawless and quick, everything was packaged and ready to go when I went to pick it up. When I brought it home, the soup was still hot and the noodles were cooked to perfection. My wife and I got the Nostalgic Japanese Shoyu and a regular Tonkotsu Ramen (with pork belly). She enjoyed the shoyu and it was enough to fill for dinner (not too much not too little, just right). I thought the Tonkotsu was pretty good as well, one of the better ramen places I've had in Edmonton. We also ordered the chicken kaarage as a side order. It was good but it wasn't memorable. We got it with the yuzu ginger sauce. I think it was pretty good without the sauce but again it wasn't memorable (maybe because it lost a bit of it's bite in transport home). All in all we had a pretty good take out experience and would probably come here again to satisfy my ramen cravings in the south side of Edmonton.

After having tried an amazing chicken ramen place in Vancouver, we were very excited to hear that there was a chicken ramen restaurant opening up in Edmonton! We came by during their grand opening special, and even though there was a long line up, we were seated pretty quickly. We started off with the deep fried gyoza, chicken karage, and takoyaki. We were pretty happy with all of the appetizers! The gyozas were nice and golden. The filling was a little dry, but the flavour was there. The chicken karage had a nice light batter and came with a delicious ginger sauce. My favourite was the takoyaki. Cheesey with large chunks of octopus. Good ratio between dough and filling. Then came the ramen. We ordered the black garlic and spicy red. Our favourite was definitely the spicy red. Great creaminess to the broth and a good kick of spice. I liked the thin noodles and they still had a nice chew to them. The black garlic ramen however, was disappointing. The amount of black garlic oil I had in my bowl completely overpowered all the other flavours in the broth. It just left a burnt bitter taste in my mouth. The one thing I also missed in both ramen dishes was the fatty pork belly. The chicken and pork was extremely lean, and grilled again to create char marks prior to serving. This made them very dry and tough. Overall, I did enjoy my experience here. The appetizers we're great! But if I wanted to satisfy my ramen craving, this unfortunately did not hit the spot.

Excellent ramen place with fun manga themed decor. It's a fairly small place (they have only one table that would hold a larger group) and the menu isn't huge but the dishes we tried were delicious and flavourful and the helpings were generous. Service was friendly and we all agreed we'll be back, especially on a cold day because hot ramen is the best way to warm up! I had the "dragon" ramen which they warned me was spicy, and they weren't lying - the noodles etc were delicious and a nice level of spicy, but once I'd finished everything else and tried the broth on its own, WOW, that was pretty fiery alone. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Ramen is quite decent. The service was excellent and very efficient! We started with the Chicken karaage appie. This is a fried chicken dish and very tasty. Recommend For our main dishes we had Menjiro original and Black garlic ramen. Both were great. The noodles were soft and the broth was tasty. The black garlic was garlic so if u don't too garlic this may not be for you. We love garlic so loved this dish Not many option for alcoholic drinks though. Their Japanese beer is light if I like that

When it's cold Ramen will warm you up! New Ramen joint opened up close to South Common called @menjiroramen they offer: Yokohama-Style Tonkatsu, Sapporo-Style Miso and their own Menjiro Original Ramen SOO MANY CHOICES!! The soup was filled with flavour and their meat is BBQ/grilled to add more flavour

Service is slow and needs lots of work. It took nearly 45 min to get food on a Sunday at 2pm.. and during that wait they brought wrong orders to our table 3x! Odd since the place is really small and was only half filled.. Ramen prices seem to have dropped, when comparing the menu to old photos. Tonkotsu is $10.50, and black garlic is $11. Which was a nice surprise. But then I realized that it's all relative - portions were also really small! And it seemed like 1/4 of the bowl was bean sprouts as filler. So if you did add $3 for extra noodle it'd make the bowl a regular sized one you would get at any other ramen joint. The broth and pork was good. But overall, left quite unimpressed and will probably have no urge to return anytime soon.

Black garlic, my recommendation is add egg with extra cost.

In particular, my good friend from U of A gave high praise for Tokiwa and said it was the best ramen in the city, so I decided to give it a go. The first day I went, it was a busy Saturday morning, I got there 20 minutes before opening, and there was still a line that I had to wait in, so keep that in mind and prepare for that, get there early enough if it's a Saturday morning and you want to avoid waiting in line. The ramen was amazing, so flavorful, so nuanced, and I never had ramen quite like it before, it was the Yuzu Shio. So delicious, the service and staff was amazing as well. The second day I went was on a weekday around 1 PM and there was no wait that time, I was seated immediately. I had the Spicy Goma, and it was so good that I still am thinking about it even now, even while surrounded by all the ramen shops here in LA. The Spicy Goma was my favorite because I have a knack for spicy foods. Definitely try Tokiwa Ramen, it was one of my favorite eats while I was in Edmonton.

The restaurant itself is clean. Not memorable in terms of looks. Reminded me of a fast food establishment. Not comfortable seating. Menu is full of different ramens with a few drinks and appetizers. However what I didn't like is they seperate them into gold, silver or house specials which I think is unnecessary and makes ordering cumbersome. Also, I feel a bit manipultive because do you want a "gold" dish, or just a silver dish.My kiddo and hubby decided on the Gold Kome Cha-Shu, while I went with the Miso Curry. We also decided on the crunch tofu salad, and an order of Ikageso (squid). Food came out quickly. The Crunch tofu salad was delicous. The contrast of the cold tofu with the crispy onion chips mixed with the japanese soy sauce was a delight. It was also a great portion. The Ikageso was good as well. Squid was tender and there was a nice batter. However the sauces made it hard to eat. The ramens came. They were decent enough. The noodles were still springy which I appreciated. However I found the broth to be a little disappointing and considering that they are in the higher end - over 16 bucks. And apparently the gold broth is a stronger flavour. So I can't imagine what the silver would taste like. It was fine. But unless I was in the area, I would not go to this establishment

It's wonderful to have so many options available and one of those is Kazoku Ramen in the west end area of Glenwood. The Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list named this restaurant as one of their Favourite Date Night spots and I was very excited to find out how they compare to the other big ramen shops in town. Visiting on a Monday evening, the restaurant was busy and bustling, indicative of it's popularity. Almost every table remained occupied for the duration of my visit. The location isn't exactly the greatest part of the city, however you'll find them in a strip mall directly next door to perennial favourite Bucas & Pastas (have you had the pasticcio??). Kazoku is immediately recognizable by their red awning and this theming remained excellent on the inside. Stepping through the door the aroma of broth tantalized my senses and I couldn't wait to taste the food. My eye was drawn to the incredible mural on the wall, which I absolutely loved!! It's of a city skyline with an adorable cartoonish Godzilla eating a naruto (a type of fish cake). The artwork is striking and looks amazing with the red lanterns hanging throughout the restaurant and dark wooden beams. They've done a wonderful job of creating an amazing atmosphere that you wouldn't necessarily expect from a strip mall! Kazoku means family in Japanese and this family business strives to only serve food that they would serve to their own family. The focus is on authentic ramen made with the freshest ingredients, creating delicious melodies of tastes and colours. Our server was prompt and efficient but I did find her to be quite curt and uninterested in answering many questions or offering recommendations. I was happy to order a Japanese Cream Soda (Melon flavour soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - $6.50) to drink, a beverage that I've seen on Japanese menus before and was happy to find here. The colour alone is a lot of fun and we enjoyed slurping on the deep green liquid. The soda tasted sort of citrusy to me and not as much like melon. But when you get the ice cream in the mix it's all very sweet and joyful. (An ideal treat for kids.) Next, we grabbed an order of Edamame (Soy beans sprinkled with coarse sea salt - $4.50) because you can't go wrong with some tasty beans. Bright green, well-cooked, and nicely salted. We happily popped these into our mouths and enjoyed the tender beans within. Edamame always feels like snacking, except in a healthy way. The menu features several types of appetizers and tempura but I zeroed in on the Takoyaki (Fried wheat balls with octopus in the center topped with tonkatsu sauce, mayo, nori, bonito - $13.00), a favourite of mine. Complete with dancing bonito on top, these takoyaki balls appeared to be entirely legit. I am certain that the restaurant is using a specialized takoyaki pan, which is what creates their perfectly spherical shape. Biting into the golden-crispy balls, these were almost identical to what I'd experienced on the streets of Osaka. Crisp on the outside but very soft on the inside with a piece of tender octopus hidden within. The sauces on top added a lot of flavour as did the shaved bonito. These were really good and one of the highlights of the meal for me. Ramen, of course, is Kazoku's specialty and with twelve types on the menu they've got a ramen for everyone. Heavy to lighter broths are offered and the menu does a good job of describing the type of broth to expect in each. I couldn't help but notice some stark similarities between the ramen at Kazoku and the ramen offered at Japanese ramen chain Santouka (my favourite ramen of all-time), including the appearance of shio ramen (my favourite!). They also have a chili goma which I usually love, full of spicy chili oil. However, for my first visit I felt that I should experience the Kazoku (Char siu, full soft-boiled egg, nori, bamboo shoots, corn, black fungus, bean sprouts, toasted sesame, green onion, naruto - $18.50), the restaurant's namesake bowl. Unexpectedly, the server asked if we wanted pork belly or shoulder for our char siu and I have never encountered this option before. Looking for some guidance on which to choose, the server offered little (none) information on the difference between the two. We chose pork belly as that seemed to be the cut of char siu that we were more familiar with. Made with a lighter pork broth, the depth of flavour was alright but I did find myself longing for something a bit more robust. I wasn't all that impressed with the char siu overall. As a BBQ pork, I found the slices incredibly thin (they should be quite thick!) and completely lacking in caramelized BBQ char. The meat was underdone and full of wet, uncooked fat. The noodles were great; nice and loose and tender. The ajitama (egg) was nicely prepared with an ideal jammy yolk, although a bit more marinaded seasoning would have been
