A wonderful way to warm up with the onset of winter in downtown Edmonton. My dad said this was the best ramen he's ever had! The minute you step inside, you're hit with the delicious smell of food cooking. Inside has tall ceilings, lots of various seating, and an open kitchen so you can see the staff who are hard at work preparing your meal. Our servers were really nice. You've got tons of ramen options, as well as yakitori, small plates, rice bowls, and a couple dessert options. I ordered the Miso Tonkotsu Spicy and it was a perfect balance of flavor. They provide a small dish of a spicy paste to adjust the heat if the base level is too mild for you. You'll definitely leave feeling full - they pack these bowls! TIPS: street parking only. Come back for happy hour from 2-5 and prices will drop significantly.

Noodles and yakitori tastes very good. Price is reasonable and the portion is quite large. Dining environment is nice, restaurant is spacious. Service is ok.

Good variety of ramen. Awesome noodles. Good broth. Pretty decent meat portions. I wanted to love this place. But I cant. My entire visit was great, service and food. My ramen was a huge portion, with a great broth, and pretty decent variety of toppings. It's also located in a great spot. I cant love it bc it was the only thing i ate that day, and after one hour of eating here. I had the worst case of food poisoning for the next 4 hours. I eat out all the time, this only happens if food is mishandled or is not fresh. Either way, it was one of the worst bouts I've ever had. And for this I wouldnt come back. Also they advertised a happy hour menu on Instagram. When I arrived I wanted to try a few items but supposedly you are limited to ordering only 1 item on the happy hour specials then pay full price for any items after that. I didnt like that and I basically didnt try anything extra bc of it. Not impressed. Not sure if I'll give it another try. But my first experience was terrible!

I am so happy that another ramen restaurant has arrived in Edmonton! This place is Michelin guide recommended. The inside is quite spacey and modern. You can choose between Gold, Silver, House Special and Vegetable Ramen on the menu. The Gold Ramen will have a heavier and strong flavor than Silver because it has been fermented for longer. I've tried the following: Gold Kome Cha-su ($16.75)- pricey ramen but it comes with many ingredients. The Cha-su pork is thick and crispy. It's very different from the Cha-su found at other ramen places. Overall it was good but nothing mind blowing. It was also a bit too salty. Miso Tonkasu Spicy ($15.75)- this was really delicious!! I love spicy Ramen and this one hit the spot Miso Tan Tan Deluxe ($19.90)-way too pricey for one bowl of Ramen in my opinion but this one came with the most ingredients. This is spicy as well but was super good The best ramens to order here are probably the spicy ones. Ramen can start at a basic price of $12.25 but you can add onto it. Service was decently fast and knowledgeable. Would come again!

Gold Kome Cha-Shu. The potato didn't do it for me.

I have to admit I was going to give this place only 3 stars. I made sure I came back again and was happy I did. When I first visited, I came with my wife who isn't the biggest ramen fan. For her, the menu was intimidating. It didn't have the types she has become accustomed to. It follows a general gold or silver line for ramen with a few other items which didn't help clear things up. Although almost all the items have pictures, they can be a little overwhelming and none of them looked appealing to her. As I could tell she wasn't wanting to return, I made sure I selected one of their larger bowls so I could try the most offerings. I selected the Gold Kome Cha-Shu. This included three prices of pork cha-shu, minced miso pork, potato wedges and more. The Happy Hour specials were solid so we added chicken karaage to the order. That first bowl was a little overwhelming. I found the flavour very strong and the potato wedges, a signature element, just seemed weird. The chicken was good and I wasn't disappointed with the bowl it just wasn't what I expected. As I mentioned, I did return. This time I went with the Silver and skipped the potato. I think it was one of the bowl on special. This one I could get behind. I could taste some subtle flavours in the broth and each garnish was noticeable. Add to that a wonderful window seat overlooking 104 St and beautiful downtown Edmonton and you have yourself a meal!

Tried this place out for lunch after seeing that it recently opened. I was quite excited as I was really looking forward to trying a authentic Roman place and this place looked like it had potential. The service was good as I was seated quite quickly and the menu looked quite promising with all the different types of ramen soup that they ordered. You have a choice of ordering Ramen from the 'Gold' and 'Silver' choices which essentially determines the broth you get. How sweet and salty you like it. I like my broth to be a little sweet, so I ordered the Silver Shiro Cha Shu ramen bowl. On the side based on the recommendation of the waitress we ordered the house made Gyoza. The house made gyoza did not disappoint and was extremely delicious. My ramen was I think just okay. I noticed that the noodles didnt seems as soft and fresh and the broth itself didn't taste authentic or with a natural sweetness I typically love with my ramen soups. This place was nice inside decor wise and had good service despite being busy. Not sure it would be my to go place but maybe as a feel like ramen but if it's the only option or on the way.

A friend and I had planned to do some jamming in my studio, and decided we should grab some dinner first. After a brief confab, we picked Misoya which had the distinction of being right across the street from my studio, and being a spot neither of us had tried. Misoya is a standard set up for a Ramen shop. Kitchen on one side with a bar/counter, and then a larger seating area, rife with Zen, and Brechtian in is sparseness. Like most good noodle shops, they are designed for maximum turnover. They also have a big screen TV, which their media suggests is always tuned to the kitchen, but this night there was a basketball game, with the sound turned down. Our waiter needed some self confidence classes, speaking so quietly as to be mostly inaudible, and then got the drink order wrong. He did, however get the food order right, and we started with an order of Gyoza, which were quite tasty. The pork filling was a tad dry but did not detract much from the dish. My friend ordered the Miso Curry Ramen and I the Goma Tan Ramen. Both arrived in good time, piping hot and fresh. My friend raved about his Miso Curry which was flavourful without being overpowering, and he loved the subtle use of the curry. My Goma Tan was delicious, and the broth was full and rich. The noodles were great, though I thought the dish, overall was a bit spartan. I initially attributed it to the full page on the menu dedicated to "add ons." I later realised the menu image showed a piece of Cha Shu, braised pork belly with the dish, but I did not get one. Misoya is part of a chain of 30 restaurants, looking to expand around the world. Judging from my visit, This location needs some fine tuning. I forgive spotty service in a family owned noodle shop, but for a "global chain" I expect more. Food - 4 The flavours and execution were very good. Decor - 4 Modern, functional while still feeling warm. (Figuratively... It was tad chilly) Service - 2 The restaurant was not busy and there was nothing complex about our order. Our waiter was perfectly pleasant, but did not assert himself, nor did he catch the mistake on my order when it came out of the kitchen. I have been a waitron myself. You should know the look of every dish on the menu. (and this is not a big menu.) I will likely return, since the location is extremely convenient. Prices are a little on the high side, and this is not the best Ramen shop in town, but it is pretty damn good so will warrant another chance.

2021 Downtown dining week lunch special: beef Q ramen & 1/2 chicken karaage.

My kids wanted noodle soup for downtown dining week, so this place fit the bill nicely. The service is so friendly here. It took about 5-10 minutes to get my order & they have a designated waiting area inside. They also package their takeout with care. If I didn't have drinks already, I would've definitely bought a ramune drink there- they have a huge variety of ramune flavours here (more than I've seen at Asian grocery stores). I don't think there's a designated patio area for this restaurant, but there's a lot of outdoor seating for the 104 st area. For the food, I like how the soup is packaged separately from the bowl and the visual presentation of the ramen bowl is still beautiful despite being takeout. The soup is very rich, my 2 small kids quite enjoyed this and the chicken too (although they had to share). I actually wanted a bowl for myself too, so I might have to make another trip to downtown again!

Gold Kome Cha-Shu with Soy Egg

This is crazy... but this was my first experience trying ramen that wasn't made from a package at home. The restaurant had an interesting vibe by playing loud rap music followed with country music. I'll admit that I was confused by the menu. It provided almost no description of the different types of ramen. Maybe these differences are well know, but given that this was my first time trying ramen I had no idea what it all meant. I had to ask the waitress for help and eventually just went with what was most popular - Gold Kome Cha-Shu with the added soy egg. While the broth was tasty, it was a little bland for my liking. I found the addition of the potato wedge to be interesting and almost out of place. However, the texture and flavor of the noodles were the best part of the dish. Given that this was my first experience with Ramen, I would like to come back here and try a different type of broth. Perhaps something more spicy will better suit my pallet.

Service was excellent, but the ramen we ordered was warm, not hot, when we got the order. On top of it, parking downtown is expensive.

It was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was ok. It was not too noisy so able to have a conversation.

I'm a regular with the tonkotsu ramen bowl, served with pork, ramen, delicious broth, and egg, to name a few. Their shrimp tempura is always tasty. It is no secret that ramen has exploded in Edmonton and what was once an elusive cuisine is now…read moreentirely common. It's wonderful to have so many options available and one of those is Kazoku Ramen in the west end area of Glenwood. The Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2022 list named this restaurant as one of their Favourite Date Night spots and I was very excited to find out how they compare to the other big ramen shops in town. Visiting on a Monday evening, the restaurant was busy and bustling, indicative of it's popularity. Almost every table remained occupied for the duration of my visit. The location isn't exactly the greatest part of the city, however you'll find them in a strip mall directly next door to perennial favourite Bucas & Pastas (have you had the pasticcio??). Kazoku is immediately recognizable by their red awning and this theming remained excellent on the inside. Stepping through the door the aroma of broth tantalized my senses and I couldn't wait to taste the food. My eye was drawn to the incredible mural on the wall, which I absolutely loved!! It's of a city skyline with an adorable cartoonish Godzilla eating a naruto (a type of fish cake). The artwork is striking and looks amazing with the red lanterns hanging throughout the restaurant and dark wooden beams. They've done a wonderful job of creating an amazing atmosphere that you wouldn't necessarily expect from a strip mall! Kazoku means family in Japanese and this family business strives to only serve food that they would serve to their own family. The focus is on authentic ramen made with the freshest ingredients, creating delicious melodies of tastes and colours. Our server was prompt and efficient but I did find her to be quite curt and uninterested in answering many questions or offering recommendations. I was happy to order a Japanese Cream Soda (Melon flavour soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - $6.50) to drink, a beverage that I've seen on Japanese menus before and was happy to find here. The colour alone is a lot of fun and we enjoyed slurping on the deep green liquid. The soda tasted sort of citrusy to me and not as much like melon. But when you get the ice cream in the mix it's all very sweet and joyful. (An ideal treat for kids.) Next, we grabbed an order of Edamame (Soy beans sprinkled with coarse sea salt - $4.50) because you can't go wrong with some tasty beans. Bright green, well-cooked, and nicely salted. We happily popped these into our mouths and enjoyed the tender beans within. Edamame always feels like snacking, except in a healthy way. The menu features several types of appetizers and tempura but I zeroed in on the Takoyaki (Fried wheat balls with octopus in the center topped with tonkatsu sauce, mayo, nori, bonito - $13.00), a favourite of mine. Complete with dancing bonito on top, these takoyaki balls appeared to be entirely legit. I am certain that the restaurant is using a specialized takoyaki pan, which is what creates their perfectly spherical shape. Biting into the golden-crispy balls, these were almost identical to what I'd experienced on the streets of Osaka. Crisp on the outside but very soft on the inside with a piece of tender octopus hidden within. The sauces on top added a lot of flavour as did the shaved bonito. These were really good and one of the highlights of the meal for me. Ramen, of course, is Kazoku's specialty and with twelve types on the menu they've got a ramen for everyone. Heavy to lighter broths are offered and the menu does a good job of describing the type of broth to expect in each. I couldn't help but notice some stark similarities between the ramen at Kazoku and the ramen offered at Japanese ramen chain Santouka (my favourite ramen of all-time), including the appearance of shio ramen (my favourite!). They also have a chili goma which I usually love, full of spicy chili oil. However, for my first visit I felt that I should experience the Kazoku (Char siu, full soft-boiled egg, nori, bamboo shoots, corn, black fungus, bean sprouts, toasted sesame, green onion, naruto - $18.50), the restaurant's namesake bowl. Unexpectedly, the server asked if we wanted pork belly or shoulder for our char siu and I have never encountered this option before. Looking for some guidance on which to choose, the server offered little (none) information on the difference between the two. We chose pork belly as that seemed to be the cut of char siu that we were more familiar with. Made with a lighter pork broth, the depth of flavour was alright but I did find myself longing for something a bit more robust. I wasn't all that impressed with the char siu overall. As a BBQ pork, I found the slices incredibly thin (they should be quite thick!) and completely lacking in caramelized BBQ char. The meat was underdone and full of wet, uncooked fat. The noodles were great; nice and loose and tender. The ajitama (egg) was nicely prepared with an ideal jammy yolk, although a bit more marinaded seasoning would have been
