Very hippy-dippy, psychedelic shop in the main downtown of Half Moon Bay. We got 8 incense sticks for $1... highly recommend the coco-orange flavor! Even though this store has a decent selection of crystals the two women working the store are ruining the shopping experience. Incredible rude and condescending. I LOVE this store! A friend of mine told me about this place and I had to go find it. First of all, downtown half moon bay is off the charts cute. And, it's been a long time since I have found a great crystal store. Tokenz is it! I will definitely be coming back here on a regular basis. They have a whole assortment of polished stones, rough stones, stone jewelry and home decor. I went in to get black tourmaline, rose quartz and a dish for my sage. I found it all, plus a sweet tourqoise neckalce. All of it was fantastically priced too! I have to say, I wasn't expecting the fabulous prices. This made Tokenz a plus plus in my book. Last but not least, the guy working the counter was so nice and super helpful. He made the stop in an even better experience. I feel like I found a treasure! So excited about this store. read more

Both in-store experiences have not been pleasant, the first visit being over a year ago, the second being this past week. The customer service was under par, by both the staff and the owner, both whom I also spoke with on the phone beforehand more than once. There was no sense of welcome or gratitude towards customers, both times!, so I was not apt to making a purchase or to even completely browse the store. One positive note is that there is a decent array of crystals and products, but the general vibe leans towards the negative side. I notice a lot of mixed reviews about the customer service so I know I'm not the only one, yet it also perplexes me how some reviews give 5 stars. I won't be coming back to this store, which is unfortunate because I have an affinity for these types of spiritual items. I do hope there is improvement with their customer focus. read more

This is one of those spiritual places you walk into and think...what am I doing in here? Well, just put that thought aside and have fun. My favorite room was the back room with all the cute items, such as earrings, toys, beads, postcards, etc... We picked up some dried sage to clense our apartment. Supposed to get rid of any spirits that may be roaming around. Yes I believe in ghosts, and don't want any hanging out in my apartment. Plus the bonus is it smells good. Need to try out their incense, but first have to finish my others. Overall, cute shop, somethings I can't afford, but that goes for most stores I ever walk into. read more

Here is this beautiful store in the most lovely town, crystals everywhere, and good vibes, earrings, cool gems, and an owner who simply wants to argue. Any question you ask, she finds a way to be weird, rude, condescending, and just awkward. It's always some awkward thing no matter how nice I am. I would have to agree with the other comments of how the owner is Rude and is lacking customer service. I drove 25 on my hour lunch break to buy some stones, she could tell I seemed like I was in a little rush, so I said sorry and I let her know I was just on my lunch break and I was just looking for some specific rough stones. She says oh I think what you need is in this shipment box I just received but they haven't been priced yet. I said ok well I'll show you what I'm making with your rocks showed her my candles seemed completely uninterested. I looked around a bit for anything else I needed hoping she would at least open the box she had just received. But no she was making me feel uncomfortable until I left. I said ok well I guess I'll drive back tomorrow on my lunch break for those. So I did then I get there she tells me they weren't even shipped. If she had taken 5 minutes the day before to open the box I wouldn't have wasted my lunch a second day. She also could have said Im sorry I can give you a call when they do arrive. There was also nobody in the shop the day before and had time to help. My dad owned a jewelry store for 50 years that I worked at and I would have definitely opened a shipment for a customer. blonde hair worker was rude and made fun of my clothes, called them weird and touched my stomach without my permission, she also touched my friends ass(this was very inappropriate and made my friend uncomfortable) ALSO the worker proceeded to not properly wear her mask, she wore it under her chin WTH. Weird to see all the bashing on the owner, as we had a very nice experience here. My hubs found a wallet with a matador cat on it and had to have it! The owner was in here talking about a recent trip she'd taken...she had a strand of leaves wrapped around her head and for some reason, this comforted me. She was careful in wrapping all our tokens up and putting cute lil stickers on stuff. Very gracious. Maybe we caught her on a good day? We've been coming to Tokenz for nearly 30 years now, and each time we find unique & beautiful pieces to take home. Be it original artwork, crystals, cards, clothing -- you name it. Each piece is an original and excellent quality. The shop owner is more than happy to share stories of where each item came from -- a village in Bali or some other interesting location. We absolutely love this shop and our home is adorned with many beautiful items from Tokenz. One of the best shops on the coast and in Half Moon Bay. read more

I could see how someone traveling here from the midwest might find this shop novel, but having grown up in California I can tell you that stores like this are a dime a dozen. Literally every small town here has a new age store selling crystals and watered down eastern spirituality exactly like this. What set this one apart in my mind was the awkward and creepy customer service. The second I walked in I felt unwelcome. The two store clerks immediately halted their conversation to stare at me. One seemed like she was at least trying and said hello to me. The other (who I'm assuming is the same consistently rude person mentioned in other reviews) glared at me. I mean legitimately glared, as if by entering her shop I had somehow offended her. I didn't think too much about it at first, and went about my business. I knew what I was looking for and spent less than 10 minutes finding it. When I got to the cash wrap, I expected the attitude might change since I was making a purchase. It didn't. The glaring lady actually turned away from me, as if she was disgusted or something? I don't know. It was so weird. I stood there for a few seconds before the nicer one actually started to help ring up my purchase. Then the unfriendly woman turned back to me reluctantly and began to help ring up my purchase. I'm of the mind that treating people with kindness gets you the same in return. I tried to be pleasant, said please and thank you. Nothing. No change. The entire time the sour one continued to glare. At one point she had a minor freak out because the nice one was wrapping up my purchases too quickly and she couldn't keep up or something. Sis, I'm buying less than 10 items it's not that complicated. After it was over I'm not even sure if I got a thank you. I had to say thank you to them as if it was an honor to shop there. It wasn't. As soon as I left I turned to my boyfriend and said, "That was awkward, I wish I hadn't spent money there." Not the feeling you want to have while shopping. Upon reading the yelp reviews, I see I'm not the only one who received such stellar customer service. The review written by the person who had their hair style insulted made my stomach turn. I do not enjoy supporting cruel, negative people and wish I had not supported this business. If you're in the market for the kind of merchandise this shop sells, I recommend holding out until the next town down the road where you will find the exact same products in a very similar store setting with (hopefully) more welcoming and inclusive customer service. read more

Look: Tokenz is probably not a place where customer service will win any awards, but the folks here let us wander the place for at least an hour today w/out saying a word. A word! Personally, I LOVE this. There are so many funky and unexpected things here. It's a journey of discovery, so go it alone and see what happens. What do you want, my high school friend, Jerry K., used to say. A cookie? You won't find any cookies here but there is quite a bit of other stuff, some senseless but a lot sublime and even a little bit sacred: stones, incense, jewelry, glass baubles, clothes, beads, bags, scarves, séance gear, painted turtle avatars, plastic skull heads, wind-up Catholic nuns, Buddhas, candy canes, metallic phish (I mean, fish), an awesome Christmas tree and ornament display, aboriginal items, native American goods, etc. etc. etc. It's all weird and good. It's all here. And they don't really care if YOU get it or not. That's so not the point. Quite possibly, the customer does not come first at this place, and maybe that ain't such a bad thing. But if you give a little, you'll probably get something back. Once the staff saw that we were ready to buy, they were nice and friendly and offered us advice about other places of interest in HMB. We left with some incense, a magnet, and a few little glass pieces for the house. Nice. Inexpensive and nice. Don't come here expecting a tour guide to show you around. They can smell a tourist a mile away. I'll bet that they see ten people come in and browse w/out buying for every one person who leaves with something to take home. The store itself is cute, but the owner was unspeakably cruel to an employee. She also snapped at me when I asked her a couple of friendly questions about the origin of her goods. We came into this store twice. The only real complaint I have is the overwhelming scent of incense. There is an eclectic mix of wares here and pretty much something for everyone at this store. Unlike the owner at Hey Jude across the street, the owner here was super friendly. I was able to find a cute bracelet that reminded me of my husband (playing cards) that I picked up for about $20. We stopped by Tokenz in search of souvenirs. The store has a great assortment of knickknacks but most of their products appeal to spiritual consumers. Jewelry, crystals, and the like could be found here. They have products for every price range, but most of them were on the pricier side. The staff were ready to answer our questions but did not mind us just browsing around. In the end, nothing really caught my daughter's eye. But for crystals and other interesting bric-a-brac needs, Tokenz is a good place to browse. read more

Eclectic - that's the one word that comes to mind for this store. The front of the shop is dominated by jewelry - tons and tons of sterling silver, bead, and natural stone pieces. There's also a fair amount of rough stones (citrine, amethyst, & quartz mostly) as well as sone tumbled/polished and even some neat carved ones (in one of the display cases, see photo I posted). There are some clothing items and other trinkets, and in the very back, a small separate room full of beads and other crafty stuff. And some very weird shit (see the other photo I posted....jars of plastic babies....what the frig?!). I guess variety really is the spice of life.... read more

3 stars, because I didn't find anything I wanted to buy, but 4 stars for the great service (see below) -- all in all, 3.5 stars. To be honest, I didn't find anything I really needed at this store, but it is full of adorable trinkets, odd knick-knacks, and millions of stones and beads. I'd love to come back here for some kind of jewelry project, especially for kids -- this place is a playground. I loved browsing this store, but what really made me HAVE to come on to Yelp! to review this store is that I saw the owner of the store take all this time to help this sweet little girl trying to find and buy a gift for her mom. The owner helped the girl find things in her "right" price range, had helpful suggestions about what to get, and other advice. It was so sweet. What a great place. read more

I have been visiting Half Moon Bay for over 10 years, and have seen stores come and go. Not so with Tokenz! It is a staple for locals and and must-see for tourists. There are many unusual items, from jewelry to beautiful clothing and a variety of fabulous gift ideas. There is also a separate section in the back dedicated to beading and craft-making. Everything for sale is of great quality, The owner, Sheila, is an absolute doll and as colorful as her store. All of her employees are very professional, friendly, and ready to answer any questions you might have. Tokenz has a neat atmosphere; there is always cool, eclectic music playing, and each area is well-lit to best display its goods. Tokenz is, by far, the best store on Main Street. If you're visiting Half Moon Bay and want souvenirs, or live close and are looking for a special present, stop in! You won't regret it. :) read more

The owner /cashier was so incredibly rude to my mother who was talking on her phone with my sister. She told her that she had a nice bench outside she could talk on. Then when I went to buy the few things I wanted she told me her comment went right over my mothers head. I almost walked out and left I was so insulted. I really like what this store has to offer however sometimes I am reluctant to spend my money there. I love their selection because the owner constantly travels far and wide but their service and attitude leaves MUCH to be desired. Most of the time I enter knowing I want to buy something there however the apathy or lethargy of their employees sometimes deters me from making the purchase. Other times I return the favor and ignore their bad attitude in return and make the purchase anyway. I think if everyone there were just a little more polite and attentive I might be more inclined to spend money on a more frequent basis. read more

Love this store in downtown Half Moon Bay - Let's see... the last few times I was here, I bought some glass stones in a variety of shapes/styles (stars, hearts, bees, etc.), a wooden buddha statuette, gem stones. They have a very cool back store which houses a PLETHORA (I don't use this word lightly) of beads, and miniature craft stuff (mini plastic nuns and babies (?), mini plastic chickens, small wood shapes, mini baseballs... and just, just STUFF GALORE! I love this store I have been going to Tokenz since I was a kid. The back bead room is great! it has everything from mini plastic nuns to glass beads. The Halloween earrings are so cute. I bought a bunch for myself and my friends. The owner, Sheila is very knowledgeable about everything in the store. A large portion of the inventory she actually goes to Bali herself to buy. I've been reading both positive and negative reviews. Here's what I KNOW: I've been going into Tokenz for at least 15 years. Sometimes the owner, Sheila, is working by herself and sometimes she has help. I have always been treated well. If Sheila is by herself, I wait for her to get to me and answer any questions or complete a purchase. Sheila has so much knowledge about the items, where they come from, how to use them. On the days when she's alone, I see her helping customers, sharing stories, unpacking boxes, customizing a purchase for the shopper, and generally being quite helpful. I have seen her working alone and sensing she is tired. When people come in late and want to linger, she may tell them she is closing and ask them to return (the store is open 7 days/week). For those who have stated they were treated rudely, I will ask you to consider what it is like to run a store (often by yourself), open every day, and manage everything. Please, don't assume you are being disregarded. If you read he positive reviews, you'll see that Sheila puts her heart into this store and her customers. Put yourself in her shoes, please. read more
