Hot Rodders BEWARE. If you think you will be respected at this establishment, go somewhere else. I went in to speak to Todd about some possible work on a classic vehicle. Although the current (assuming "stock") engine ran, I wanted to have it taken out and replaced with another engine I was well familiar with. Reason being: The current engine has unknown parts and I didn't want it powering my vehicle. I wanted another engine of mine installed because it produced more power and has parts and machining I personally selected.
As soon as I pull into their establishment, Todd and his mechanic were arguing with one another. I ignored this and greeted them friendly. As I begin to explain what work I possibly would like to have them do, they begin to lecture me about what I'm doing is wrong. The mechanic says "You don't replace an engine just because you don't know anything about it". Well, they both continued to disrespect me as a person and as a customer. I said that "If you have a reason why you don't want to do this job for me, just say so". The younger mechanic commented ..... "You have to take off the heads to remove the engine!" Well, yes you do in some applications but he's a mechanic and would be paid to do this anyway if they took on the job.
Todd then asks me in a very rude prying kind of way .... "Have you ever removed an engine from a vehicle like yours before?" All this implies that they didn't want to take on the job and make money.
I found myself repeating the same answer to them five times to their original question .... "So why do you want to replace it?" My response was the same ..... "I don't know anything about this engine and I don't want it powering my vehicle".
Now, I don't go around telling shops how to run their business, but when you yell at a customer and proceed to lecture him or her what their doing is wrong and insist that you are right, you lose the customer and in some cases for good.
They showed very little concern for what I wanted and proceeded to shout me down and belittle me because they did not understand and even agree with what I was asking them to do.
Lastly, after my numerous futile attempts to explain to them what I wanted went ignored, having felt that I went absolutely nowhere with them during the conversation and having stood there receiving their criticism, I abruptly ended my part of the conversation and left their establishment without uttering a word.
They offered no apology to me for their rudeness and/or refusing to take on the job during our conversation. There was total silence from them as I walked to my vehicle, started it up and drove away.
I will never return to Todd and Sons Auto Repair. read more
