If you ask for a high end stick that they don't carry, be prepared for a scoff or a raise of the eyebrow as though you're some unknowledgeable sucker who is willing to pay for a Padron/Davidoff....because you know, those sticks are clearly lame right? (sarcasm) SELECTION: 3.5 out of 5 - If you took someone who wanted to smoke their first cigar and impress them, you'd be hard pressed to find the right cigar here. For those in the know they have a decent selection and I'd even offer it's a good spot to find a new stoge if you're in a rut. I've shopped here for years sporadically and their consistency is a bit questionable, they advertise Tatuaje, but they actually only regularly carry one very sizable and boutique stick, not suitable for average fans of the brand or anyone wanting to test the waters for the first time. On the other hand they've been known to occasionally carry a seasonal blend that is virtually impossible to find outside of a select online dealer(s). VALUE: 2 out of 5 - I recently bought a half dozen of fairly reputable sticks here and so far the first 3 have all been quite stale. They also keep flavored cigars in the same humidor (bit of a no-no amongst purists) OVERALL**: 4.2 out of 5 for casuals - YOU WILL BE SATISFIED HERE - 3.8 out of 5 for regulars - It's above average, but in a world where tourist friendly cigar shops offer better service and selection why would your favorite stoge smoker go here? 1. Always a varied selection of smokes. More often than not they'll have a tricky to find smoke or one that you possibly haven't heard of that becomes one of your favorites. The people that work here are all very knowledgeable ( see end of paragraph above) & helpful w/o being snooty or off putting. I wanted to surprise my husband for our 4 year wedding anniversary with some nice cigars to put in the humidor I got him. So I walk up to the store front of Tobaccology where I was greeted by a team of great guys. They asked what I needed (I had no clue of specifics) I showed them a list and a price point. The gentleman walked in and came out with several great cigars (that my husband loves) and great advice as to use the humidor effectively. Initially I was worried going to the shop and not knowing what I wanted, especially bc I'm very indecisive! Having the guys take over and just grab me a great collection was perfect and exactly what I needed- and they took great care of me! Definitely the best cigar shop in the area. Best cigar selection, good lounge to hang out in and smoke if you want a place to do so. The employees are also welcoming and quite knowledgeable, which is imperative for good cigar shops. I've been coming here for years and plan to continue going for years to come. The newest location in Haymarket is awesome! If you haven't been to it yet, I suggest trying it out. This is also a good place to go when Tobaccology hosts events. It's not too much money to participate in whatever the event is and it's always worth it. The shop itself carries good boutique cigars. If you can't appreciate boutique cigars, you obviously haven't smoked any. Many of the brands are good brands that aren't mass produced, so the quality stays high. Just ask one of the employees and they'll tell you all about it. They do carry some big name brands as well, but I'd encourage anyone to start branching out. All that being said, this is definitely the best shop around. read more

This place is pretty cool. Total blink and you miss it, kinda spot- it's tucked away and in what looks like a house. They have a very large walk-in humidor where we were shown some Connecticut style cigars with a nice variety of sizes. The price point is great too! This place would take some time to truly explore. Brett really knows how to take care of his customers. The walk-in humidor is stocked with new releases and old favorites. The members' lounge in the back is a nice safe haven with lockers, a poker table, and TVs. The customer lounge in the front boasts a 70+" TV as well as several other screens to showcase all of the sports action. Brett is a very knowledgeable tobacconist and takes time to pinpoint what each customer may like based upon their preferences. The members of my cigar club love this place, and we make it a point to try to meet there at least once a month. read more

It's a journey for me getting back into cigars after 10years not smoking them. I can't tell you how many places I've been with dry, stale cigars that are an afterthought to their wares. Now, there's a lot going on here that I'm not hip to yet with brands and what not, but that'll take time. The atmosphere here is what really caught my attention. I first stopped by here a couple years ago when I was visiting next door and got a kick out of the front door sign. That sign stayed in my mind and when I decided to hit a local spot for a cigar, it was the first shop I thought of. The tobacconist Brett asked me what I was looking for in a cigar, presumably because he knew I was about to see brands I wasn't familiar with. He gave advice that landed me on a box pressed maduro Leaf by Oscar 2012. We got to sit and talk for a bit too, and that's what really hit home for me. I found out there's a membership available, a lounge, and that they host events like UFC fights! We talked about different brands and why he doesn't care to carry them anymore, laregley because of politics. Recent changes that out cigars under the control of FDA left little guys in the dust. I'm an anrcho-capitalist, so I completely understand his disdain for the lack of support from the "Big guys" in the industry. There's more than one way to vote, and using your wallet is probably a more sure way to be heard. Looking forward to going back to visit and to catching a UFC fight there, too. read more

Was on my way to Dulles coming up from Richmond on a recent business trip, had some extra time and found Tobaccology with some nice reviews. This is a very friendly spot with not a huge humidor but VERY nice selection and range of cigars at more than reasonsble prices. However, what makes this place special is Bubba. I have visited a multitude of cigar shops in my travels across the country and I have not come across a warmer, friendlier, and more knowledgeable owner anywhere else. He was nice enough to let me relax in the private area in the back where I spent an hour chatting with a fellow Chapel Hill grad who played football there back in the 90's. I just found this store last week thanks to my friend. He gave me one of their "House" cigars, and it was great, so I could not wait to make the drive to Manassas and see what the fuss was all about. As it turns out, this place is as great as their cigars. I was greeted by "Bubba" who acted as though I was his most important guest. I told him I'd never been there but that I wanted to sit down and enjoy one of their House Maduro's. He said: "Why don't you set your stuff down and I'll show you how the humidor is laid out." He took me in a large humidor that was neat and well humidified. This was also the first one I have seen organized alphabetically. He walked me through the construction of the House Maduro and I grabbed a bundle of the 60 rings and paid for them. I then sat down in the largest and most inviting cigar lounge outside of a cigar bar I have ever been in. There was more leather in this place than a tack room and TV's as big as the Cowboy's stadium (That was a slight exaggeration but that TV had to be 75 inches plus there were a few more to boot). While I was there and enjoying the cigar and some conversation from other patrons I was attended too but not bothered if that makes sense. The couches and chairs are new leather and the place seats about 20 comfortably and probably 30 if you scrunch up. Plus there is another "private" lounge in the back. If you are looking for Virginia hospitality, a good selection and comfortable surroundings, you would do well to visit this place. I'm going back tonight to introduce another friend of mine to my idea of the perfect cigar store. Thanks Bubba! read more

I've shopped here for a few years, it's always great it's NOT the typical dark, dingy environment of most cigar shops. They do have a nice lounge if you want to smoke your purchase right there and there's 3 huge flat screens with TV, movies and sports to watch.
