I really like this place! I have never actually hung out inside, but I sure do love the porch! There's always some decent music and entertaining music video going on, cheap drinks, a heated lamp and some fun cute boys everywhere! where to begin? after getting drunk at the LookOut and Q BAR, i wasn't even sure if i had a blast at Toad Hall. all i remember was getting their infamous long island tea and seeing tons of mature men around me. yea, this place is full of them. i believe this is more of a sports bar, but not really? meh. definitely, not a dancing bar... you go to badlands or Q BAR for that. read more

My favorite place to start the night! Toad Hall isn't the place to come for dancing, as I've never really seen much dancing going on despite the small dance floor area. It is however the place to get good drinks, especially during happy hour. Nice decor inside with generally pretty good music. The outside patio has its own well and is spacious and smoke-friendly, but the rainbow Christmas lights on the ceiling are tacky. My only complaint is it tends to get way too warm inside, and they often have the outdoor heaters on when they're not needed, so there's no escaping the warmth! All in all, take your happy hour over to Toad Hall first, you won't be disappointed. read more

Been here a couple times with my samesies! I love the fact that it's always been poppin' both times I went, and the drinks are way more affordable! Music is good, can't complain about the crowd. Although the 2nd time we went, there was this one couple that was showing WAY too much PDA...it's like they were giving us a freakin' show right in front of our face! Went here last night for the 4th, and it was pretty damn fun. Had good music, top 40 with music videos playing, really nice bartenders, good priced shots of tequila, the gays know how to get down. I like this place, it's a great place to boy watch , and see new video's. I go with a group of friends I know and just chillax and have fun. Drinks are plenty .They have a patio so you can go smoke and have your cocktail at the same time. Folks do dance too!. Check it out no cover and its fun. The Musice is great! Okay, I have been here mainly on Sundays. Sundays are wall-to-wall people and they usually offer a beer bust for $8 all you can drink beer or well drinks 2 for 1 during certain times. The mood of the crowd is friendly and open. Mainly a guys bar. The bar tenders are friendly and fairly prompt. The outdoor area offers heating spots so you can still enjoy yourself even if there is a chill out. You can have a group or come alone and still have a blast. read more

This place is nice to go to with friends to relax w/o the commotion of Badlands and other bars. For those who smoke there is a back patio to relax in. Now if they only cleaned the ceiling fans which look so nasty! All in all this is a great place to hang out and have a better conversation than other bars. read more

I do love this bar. I haven't had any bad experiences with my drinks being made wrong, waiting more than 4 or 5 minutes on a busy busy night to have my drink in my hand, and I do love the outside patio. I don't smoke but I do love the fresh air when the inside is so hot. I don't think I've ever been inside for more than 10 minutes. Umm, badlands part 2? I realize its the same owner, but sheesh....how about a little variety!! This place is just like badlands except smaller, cleaner, and with a cute little patio out back. Someone else said that this place is like the badlands/mix offspring and I cant agree more!! The +++'s: Drinks were super duper cheap! was here on a Thursday night and they had happy hour til 10pm (if theres one thing i like more than happy hour its happy hour that goes late!). Ordered a ketel and soda for myself and my friend....got 4 of them all for $13!! That's like the price of one at a bar in any other city! Kudos to Mr Toad for the cheap libations. Also, who doesn't love a bar with an outdoor patio?? I mean sure, the weather in SF may not be ideal for such a concept, but toad hall has heat lamps on they're patio for us to all huddle around. There's also a bar on the patio so you don't have to venture allllllll the way back inside for a cocktail ;) The music....again, think badlands. Lots of pop, dance and euro trash type stuff....twas fine. All in all, i will def return to toad hall. Its a nice (yet oh so very similar)alternative to the mess that is sadlands. I just read Sachi "BWB - big white bitch" P's review about Toad Hall and can't disagree more. I can't comment on her incident specifically (as I wasn't there to verify whether her ID does in fact look like her mom), but I can argue against her statement,"straight girls beware." As a straight girl, I love going to this place (hello 2-4-1 happy hours gone crazy pants). The bouncers are always so nice, the bartenders are flipping awesome and pour more-than-generous drinks, and the crowd is friendly. I don't know what else you want in a bar. Oh good music, and outdoor seating? Hmm.... yeah.. Sorry that one girl's experience was awful, but a single person's experience certainly doesn't account for an entire demographic. it was really busy when i went and they charged a cover fee, which was 5 dollars i believe. The place was alright, the back smelled pretty bad with all the cigarette smoke and i want to say sewage water from the restrooms too. But it seems to have a good crowd and i enjoyed the music. This is a great place to go to meet new people and to dance. I wish the dance floor was a little bit bigger and the lighting was more flashy and attractive. It seems that have limited colors. Fuchsia purple red. The bar is definitely appealing. The colors, the layout. It's magnificent. I like how they have an outdoor patio so I could head to the back and have a smoke if I wanted to. Dress casual and make sure you're with friends you can trust because this is a mixed crowd. Some people (customers) look sketch, although the may not be. Just be safe!!! read more

I have only been once, but I went on a nice night on Friday and it was nearly dead. The drinks were good, not great. The music was good, but three people were dancing - and thats it. The good thing was the crowd was mixed. It seemed like a great meeting place to start the night and get a few drinks (and possibly dance). I would go again, just not rush back. read more

I accidentally left a sweater here after having a few. I called the next day hoping that by chance one of the employees picked it up and saved it for me. They actually did! This has got to be the only bar in the castro with such kind service. I've never had anything but a great time here. Monday night's (Rupaul's Drag Race Night) are killer and they always have contestants of the show performing live from that season. Not to mention their famous 2-for-1 happy hours. Great overflow bar when you want badlands, but don't want the crowd. By far has the best smoking room with a bar included out of any place in the Castro. Only good on the weekends, but had a great time there pride 2009. read more

I was wondering what happened to the beefy, young male bartender who used to work the back bar at Badlands. I was happy to find that he is now working at Toad Hall. He was working the late shift there on Sunday. I think his name is John. He is very personable, makes a great drink (not too strong or weak). In short, he makes this bar a place that I would like to frequent regularly. Most of the other male bartenders in the Castro could learn from him about creating a warm, friendly atmosphere. read more

I frequent this bar a lot. and it has good energy... However I just heard that they are switching back to Miller Lite on draft and taking away Bud Light.... BIG MISTAKE !!! When they moved to Bud light, they got a bunch of us to come over and start frequenting this spot. Sad to say that if they switch to Miller Lite, myself and many others will move back to hang at the other spots that serve Bud Light on draft, which is a shame. Can the beer one chooses to serve really make that much of a difference??? Most definitely. Keep Bud Light on Draft!!! read more

In general I've enjoyed going to Toad Hall, but I must say a friend of mine and I experienced something quite odd and obviously racist on Friday, February 9th. Basically, a friend of mine were chatting at the front bar, not crowded at all, where my friend was standing just a little bit in the "order lane". No one was in line to order a drink and if they needed to order a drink there was plenty of space for them to do that and of course it would not have been a problem for us to slide over. This new bar-back (I know as I know most of the staff) who appeared to be from an Eastern part of the world (I can't remember his name right now) directly walked up to us and TOLD us we needed to move over for people to order. Strange there were other people sitting at the bar also partially in the "order lane". This guy did not approach them at all....Not only that but the bartender standing directly in front of us had nothing to say about us being in the way of others either. The brief conversation we had with him was so obvious to us that he had issues with people of other races. I know that both Badlands and Toad Hall have the same owner and have had a history of some racial issues.....I hope that is now starting again by hiring this guy...because he is NOT a good image for the bar. I really don't mind going back just do not want to see him. read more

Toad Hall is a great place for 2-for-1 happy hour. However, outside that it's not a very exciting place - more of a place to meet up with friends. We've had some fun times in Toad Hall but don't go there often anymore. We grew tired of the woo-hoo drunk girl bachelorette parties and bridal shower groups. read more
