My husband had the honors of picking our accommodations for our first solo trip without our son…read moresince he was born & he did a great job picking the Roostercomb suite at the Roostercomb Inn! Keane Valley is about 30 mins south of Lake Placid and only an hour from Plattsburgh. It's an incredibly beautiful area with plenty of hiking, waterfalls, peaks, rivers, and crystal clear lakes. The Roostercomb Inn is the perfect location because most of the trailheads we went to we're 5-15 minutes away by car. It's right off the main road in town, next to Black Mountain Coffee, and down the street for a little market named Valley Grocery. The Inn is mostly hostel style with 6 bedrooms varying from queen size bed, to twins, to even bunk beds with communal bathrooms. There's 2 bathrooms with showers/tub, and 2 bathrooms with just toilets. The suite we rented had it's own private bath, which to us was worth the extra money. The inn has a fully stocked kitchen so you can cook all 3 meals a day if you want, though I would recommend eating at least one meal at Forty Six restaurant down the street! There's two dining tables inside, and an outside table on the back patio which also has a grill, lounge chair, place to hang wet clothes, and a gorgeous view of the mountains. There's a fire pit out back, and the garden around the inn has beautiful flowers. The bottom floor of the front of the inn has a real fire place, some super comfy chairs for lounging, and another small kitchen with dining table in case there's the need. The rest of the downstairs are living quarters for the tenants. This building is from the 1800s, and although the hallways are a little crooked, there's so much character to this place! Most of the furniture is hand made wood and there's a lot of unique touches throughout. I will say that the bed definitely wasn't queen size and that the mattress needs to be replaced. Most guests probably sleep quickly and leave early, but we were really wanting to enjoy our time without our son and sleeping in was one of the goals! Noise levels weren't really a problem from inside, but there is a church across the street that chimes every hour and you can hear road noise. I also need to add that the windows need some curtains, because they don't block the sun and at night they are very lit up from the street lights. These are just a few touches that would've changed our stay from a 4 to a 5 star. I would say that being a suite they might want to add some more upgrades for couples who might be celebrating their wedding or anniversary. However, we would definitely stay here again! The little details in the room like the blow dryer, soaps, kitchenette that had both a coffee machine and hot water kettle were so thoughtful! They provided coffee beans and grinder for fresh coffee. They also had a tin with different teas. They provided all the cups, dishes, and silverware you would need so you could stay in your room. There's a small refrigerator and microwave as well. The closet had a cot bed that could be used for children, as well as additional pillows and blankets. There was a dresser for storing clothes, and a small electric fireplace. Magdalena is one of the owners and she was quite charming. She gave us recommendations of hikes in the area, and was very accommodating when asked for help. She gave me some of her chamomile tea when I didn't see any in our room or the shared kitchen, and she allowed us to come back and shower on our last day after we had checked out. We were hiking and swimming, and taking a flight later that night, so it was really nice for her to let us come back, especially since it ended up pouring rain in the afternoon! This place is quaint and lovely and has all the things you need for a wonderful vacation in the North Country of New York! The location is the perfect mix of small town amenities & close proximity to the nature trails! Check out my pictures as I've included some of the trails that were just a short drive from the Inn. Heads up, most of the trails do require reservations/permits. We will be back!

Spent less than 24 hours here. It seems like it has been slow because I was surprised I was…read moreinitially the only one there for the night. Coming from 2 hostels on this side of the US with more influx of guests, I was confused by why there were no signs on how to enter for check-in or a reminder of lobby hours. There was nothing in front saying guests should go to the back to enter but yet there are steps leading to a front door that I later found out is always locked. No instructions on how to locate the lobby in the email either. I stayed in a 8-bed dorm room above the restaurant and check-in office. The room faces the road so you'll hear road noise since the one window is left open for the portable air conditioner. There was another dorm room right behind. Light sleepers will need an earplug. The bathroom was very clean, colorful, and had modern, cute features. Other things to note: - Not sure there is a shuttle (common with other hostels in the region) - Not sure there are lockers - There are bedside lights by every bed and power outlets are on the bottom bunks only. - The dorm room had a ceiling fan and portable air conditioner - There was Body wash in the shower but no shampoo or conditioner. - There are 2 or 3 toilets and 1 shower upstairs in that building. - The kitchen fridge is cute but small in size for the number of beds. - There are 2 living/sitting rooms - There are some board games available - There is a restaurant on-site. - A brew of coffee is made every morning. - There was no stove to cook

This is a gem of a place!!! Owner Carol is the sweetest, most interesting innkeeper…read more(schoolkeeper?), and the accommodations are clean, friendly, and historic! Great for groups, with room for lots of friends! Stayed in the "Green Room" as a group of 3, and was almost late to the wedding we were up there for because we were too busy enjoying and exploring Isle la Motte. Gorgeous wildflower gardens in the front, with yard games and a hammock (and a vegetable garden!) in the back. Breakfast both mornings we were there was a wide spread of toasts, juices, eggs, cereals, fruits, and yogurts...and don't forget the homemade muffins! Yum. The laid back vibe, informative hostess and literature, and the picturesque setting all worked together to create a wonderful weekend, the likes of which we will be reminiscing about for years to come. Hopefully, it's not years before we are able to come back to visit Carol and her fantastic place! Go: if you want a fun, relaxing visit full of nature/history exploration, personal connection, and conversation. Don't go: if you need color TV, hustle and bustle, or are looking for a traditional hotel experience. This is NOT that! ...And I couldn't be more pleased about it. Thanks again, Old Schoolhouse of ILM! Loved it and can't wait to be back.

If you have a large group there is an old classroom that has been converted into group lodging. There are huge old chalkboards left over that you can write on and a large collection of books and games to pass the time. The kids love this space. If you want more privacy for a couple or small family there is the green room with its own entrance and en suite bathroom. There were lots of options for breakfast including baked goods that Carol makes herself. The kitchen and refrigerators are available for preparing/storing your own meals if you wish and a huge help yourself garden outside we used to supplement our meals. And the rates are fantastic. This is the best value in the area by far! Hoping we can get up to Isle La Motte for another visit this summer.

-Editing my review today from 2 stars to 1 because I received a bizarre phone call from the owner…read more I answered with high hopes that the Inn was calling to apologize to me. Instead the owner acted mentally unstable and was STILL unable to communicate properly. Do NOT book this established. - I would not recommend booking here. My husband and I recently booked The Warren Falls Inn and stayed with our infant and one other adult. We originally only booked a night for our family ( 2 adults and 1 infant). The same night as our stay, we added 1 adult via our air b and b check-in. We paid an additional fee for our guest. Before we added our additional guest, my husband and I made sure to message the host to ask if she received our payment. The answer was yes, with no other details. Three days after our stay (today) I opened an email with a money request of $90 from the host, saying that we needed to pay another fee for our room usage not just our guest. This was never mentioned to us during the process of adding on our additional guest. After trying to discuss the matter with the host, since it was and is very confusing. She deiced to insult me via air b and b messenger. The Owner is not friendly and has very poor customer service skills. The house was very clean and in a very pretty location.
