I have never been treated more rudely in a store in my life. I told the woman behind the counter that I was looking for something to maintain a kiddie pool. She sneered, scoffed and said KIDDIE POOL???! I am normally a very friendly, happy person, and was so shocked by her completely unmerited bad attitude that I didn't even know how to react, so I kept taking to her in hopes that I had just read her reaction wrong. But as we kept talking, she groaned, rolled her eyes, and then made rude comments to her coworker that my pool was incredibly tiny and cheap, and loudly announced that I had only spent $70 on it, as I showed her the dimensions of it on the website I bought it from. I finally had enough, and told her that I didn't like how she was treating me and that I was leaving. I reached out to take my phone from her, and had to pry it from her hands. I heard her loudly making rude remarks as I closed the door behind me. Too bad. I'm building an actual pool and hot tub on my property next year, and they are right down the street from me, but I will absolutely not be going to them for anything in the future. I went down the road to Leslie's, and they were so nice and friendly about my needs and helped me get everything I was looking for. I highly suggest going there instead. TLC's Bill told me I never asked him to address the leak (really...why would I make a service call and NOT tell them about a leak). He also said that it took his tech so long to find the problem that he should have charged me more money than the $90 service call, even though he only addressed part of my problems. They did not come when they said they would, did not call to tell me why and I had to call them back to schedule the call again. I had gone into the store a few weeks earlier and asked about ordering a part to install myself and Bill was very condescending, said the installation of this part would be complicated, all kinds of things could go wrong, blah blah blah.... Ordered the part online and it took me about 15 minutes to install (I am a 51 year old woman who has never done anything like this before, ever. I guess this is why TLC has to sell big green eggs. read more

In my last visit, she said two things to me the entire time i was in the store. She said the price and thank you. That's it. No greeting no smile just drank her sprite and looked at the computer. TLC Pools sells more than Pools and Spas. Green Egg and the needed supplies to make your cook out amazing. We use ours summer and winter and the specialty spices are fantastic. The real go-to for gifts at this store is the collection of YETI products including customized versions. I purchased 3 recently. I shared with Mary what I was planning to do with monograms using a digital cutter and asked which surfaces might adhere better to the vinyl. Very helpful and shared lots of information regarding the styles, lids and other products in the line. Going back this week for holiday shopping! read more

This May I had my pool refurbished by TLC Pools and Spas. They did a great job on my liner and reconstructing the walls of the interior including running a new track around the entire pool. I had to save up to get this work done so price was very important to me. I got what I consider a very affordable price for all the hard word they put into my job. Believe me when I say it was not easy. It had been raining and the mosquitos were terrible to say the least. They worked until the got the job done. So kudos to owner Bill who puts all he has into every job. I had nightmares the last time we had this done. So I'm not just happy with my job I'm ecstatic Way to go TLC you have a customer for life. I went there first thing in the morning and was waiting in my car for them to open. One of their distributors was making a delivery. I saw one of the owners come out and scream in his face. I didn't hear it all but the delivery driver wasn't the one being confrontational. I have NEVER seen owners of a business in the SERVICE industry treat someone this way. As a customer that has shopped there very on and off I have witnessed other "short" behavior and rudeness to other customers. This last time pushed me over the edge. These two owners Will and Mary are extremely disrespectful, money hungry, and mean spirited people. They think they are above everyone and HELLO, THEY ARE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY. Pros: pool was never green. When we left town on short notice, they were able to send someone out daily to empty skimmers since it was fall. Cons: First and foremost if you choose this company, you'll be dealing almost exclusively with "Mary". Mary chooses what she would and would not like to hear when you speak to her. I used this company for regular maintenance on the pool in the house we just moved into. They don't show up the same day or time each week- it's whenever they feel like it. Honestly that's not a problem if they actually did great work. Mary insists that theirs are the best prices in town. Not true. They gouge you for chemical charges on top of the average service charge. Our heater broke. I called Mary and she says "oh, no problem!! We will send out a repair person". No one showed, had to keep calling them. Then the guy finally shows and says "yeah we don't fix heaters". Thanks for the waste of time, Mary. Called her to tell her that she shouldnt be telling people they fix heaters when in fact they do not. Hey, maybe she didn't know. Next, pool losing water. Mary kept me on the phone for over 30 minutes telling me that it's just evaporation. She's never been to my house, seen my pool or spoke with our service person before dishing out this information that she again had no business being involved in. All I wanted was someone to evaluate it during our next service. Finally able to catch our service guy..."yeah, we don't detect leaks." Great. Winter rolls around. We aren't sure what to do with our pool during the winter as this is our first time having a pool in the cold weather. We asked our service guy for advise on what to do to make sure we don't freeze any pipes. His answer, "whatever you want". No help at all. The straw that broke the camels back was that we sprung a leak around the pump site. Service guy left us a note saying "pump lost prime, leak around heater". This note continues over our next few service visits- same note, no plan, no advice, no repairs. Finally decide to fire them so I call Mary- she was very rude and asked me why I wanted to cancel. I told her about the repairs needing to be done and right away before she even asked my name, she says "well, we can make those repairs!!" You have to be kidding me. Then she asked for another reason we were switching away from them and I said that I found someone cheaper. Before doing any research, she practically shouts at me, "You probably hired someone who isn't even licensed if it's cheaper than us!!" FYI she hadn't even asked who we hired before she berated them. For my first online review of any business ever - Want to give a big shout out to the owner of this place. In World Record time, she became the most obnoxious, loud, high-browed, and rude business owner I've ever met. While speaking to one of her helpful and thoughtful employees about purchasing a green egg, we were interrupted at least three times due to her screeching at someone else. She was asked one simple question, and with a quick cut of her eyes at me, she nodded and proceeded to speak to him about "phosphates" - completely dismissing me. Wow. wish you could've been there. The guy tried to be apologetic; "She's the owner and she's just loud" he explained earlier. Well, as a soon-to-be pool owner (in about a month), I want to say THANK YOU to whoever you are. You just saved me a ton of grief and aggravation. Better to find out now what kind of person runs this place. Whew. read more

I bought a hot tub from them a few years ago. The installer was great. Fast forward to last weekend. I went in to have my pillows in the hot tub replaced. Mary was rude to myself, my husband and her employee. When we called to ask if they ordered the parts she replied that she will not order my parts until she gets a big order in. That could take months or a year. My husband asked her to send back the pillow we left there. She replied i do not have the time , and i will not spend the time and money to go to the post office. Was sitting getting ready for a heart test reading about how to test my pool when a nice lady by the name of Pam asked me what I was trying to figure out. SHe explained she worked for a pool comapny and we had a nice conversation about what I should be looking for when I try to test my water, I told Pam I was new at this and she suggested I come to their place and she would go through the water test with me and show me what to look for. I asked her how much and she smiled and said not a penny. She explained what they do and because she knows first hand what I am going through I might consider a temporary pool maintenance program. She spoke very highly of the new owner and the technicians they have. I was very impressed. I told her she was very kind and did appreciate her talking to me. I am giving 4 stars only because I have not used them yet but giving it much thought. read more

I am so sad that owner died a few months ago.. he was a a five star operation and Bill had 5 stars all the way.. I tried to give the new owners the benefit of the doubt and wow they really disappoint. So your aware the new owner does not care at all.. I had a guy come in and replace a pump did not even bother to fill up the hot tub to see if work, and wow it does not work when I call to ask why? The response " they were like sorry we replace the pump they don't do anything else" . I asked the about the filter, and was told he was not knowledgable on how they work really? OMG. Your job is to fix hot tubs.. yikes.. I am so sad but I am sure Bill is rolling his grave this is what was left of the company.. I will be looking for a new service company. Shameful! My guess they will be out of business in 6 months. TCL was awesome for 10 Plus year just show how a new crappy service can ruin a company. read more

Please don't waste your time or money here. They are EXTREMELY RUDE and have TERRIBLE customer service. I went in looking for a part and the owner literally rolled her eyes at me when I asked for it, and then one of her female employees asked me if they were closing my pool. When I said "no" she told me they didn't the part I needed because "they were on the trucks with the guys who were closing pools for their customers". We just moved into the area and they are extremely convenient to our house but I WILL NEVER spend a single penny in this store since clearly they don't need my business. It's ridiculous that people can treat customers like that and get away with it. It's ironic that their name is TLC because clearly they are incapable of offering that!!! read more

I tried to change the sand in my filter myself. I had done it successfully at my old house. Not so lucky this time. We broke the laterals. So I called TLC. I'm not giving a one star rating to TLC because of the service I received at my house. It did take a few days longer than Bill said for the parts to come in, but ultimately, the workman, Dave, did a great job. And I felt that the amount I was charged for the service ($380.00) was reasonable. Keep in mind that they were able to use the new sand that I had already bought at Leslie's (I had spent about $160.00 for the new sand). The next day, I went in to the store to get chemicals to treat my green pool (it had been about a week with no filter...so it was pretty bad). Mary sold me three chemicals that cost around $140.00. I dumped all chemicals in that night, and I think the chemicals likely helped to get the pool back in shape quicker. So here's the issue. And perhaps this is my fault...you be the judge and decide if this is the type of business you want to patronize. When I was at the store buying the chemicals, I decided to purchase a new vacuum head, a new vacuum hose, and an additional component. All the parts together cost about $120.00. I never opened these new products. I normally never vacuum my pool. I typically brush the shallow end into the deep end and let the Polaris do the rest of the work. But I had bought the equipment because I thought I may need it to get the pool back into shape (sand was at the bottom of the pool). But I found that running the filter 24/7, the chemicals, and brushing the pool, did the job. So this morning, I took the equipment back, and kindly ask if I could return it for a refund....again, I had not opened the equipment. Mary, gave me a very dirty look and made me feel like I was being a criminal. She asked "are you never going to need to vacuum your pool?" And she complained "we are a small store and I just ordered additional supplies to replace what you bought." She then said that she would not refund the money, but would give me store credit. But she was not gracious at all. The phone rang, and she took the call. I was considering taking the store credit and use it immediately to buy shock (since I'm starting to run low). But after I thought about it for a minute, I decided that I couldn't wait to get out of their store. I told her I would keep the equipment....I guess it will come in handy in the fall when the leaves are falling. What I didn't tell her is that I will never spend another dollar with them again. She is obviously not very business savvy....I will need to get a new pool liner in the next year or two....but TLC will not get to bid on the job. And by the way, Leslie's has never refused to allow me to return a product for any reason. read more

First impressions due really matter. My first impression about this company was subpar when first called to set up appt. Felt that I was bothering the attendant regarding inquiries of services provided; short and bothered by questions. Told by Bill that a call with a 2 hour window on the day of the appt will be made. Well, it never happened. Instead, a message was left in our voice mail stating arrival 30-45 mins. It never happened. One and a half hour later a call was placed and informed that because no call back was made, the technician went to another job. Informed Bill that no message requesting a call back to confirm was left. He agreed to this but never apologized. He remained defensive and basically stated that no such mention about the two hour window was made. The conversation remain short since he gave me the impression that it was my fault. An appt for later in the day was offered but I politely declined the offer based on the above facts. The bottom line, customer care is important. This company lacks such attributes at least by the above telephone experience. With other choices available, I am not dealing with this company. read more

Purchased a Big Green Egg from TLC back in 2008 and just recently the firebox cracked. I took the cracked firebox back to them and Mary was able to get it replaced under warranty while I waited. I try to support friendly small businesses over the impersonal big box stores and service like this is why I do. read more

TLC just replaced the vinyl liner on our pool and we couldn't be happier with the process from start to finish. Mary was extremely helpful with the design selection, and Bill and his helper were responsive and efficient in starting and completing the job in a timely manner. I highly recommend this service. This company is not honest. Mary and I agreed on a price to close my pool for $150.00 and she charged me $272.00. She had access to my account for an authorized limit of $150.00 but chose to take almost double that. She now claims that she told me about the 'winterizing' kit that is used to fill the lines with antifreeze. And, it took longer to blow out the lines. Talk about hidden fees, upselling, and charging me for time that I had no control over nor agreed to pay for. She didn't tell me about the winterizing kit. Wouldn't that be a part of the service anyway? Seems to me that $150 is $150 and if it goes over, a phone call would have been nice. She says she will credit my account back $50, so she is admitting she screwed me. I can't believe this place is still in business after reading these reviews. Is there anyway we can shut this place down? Please, Please, Please I beg anyone reading this do not use them no matter how sweet Mary seems on the phone. She is a total con artist. read more

I've read the previous posts and I can see both sides. I had TLC do a lot of work around my pool for several thousands of dollars. While Bill is not the most friendly person, he was direct, no nonsense and I did get the feeling he knew what he was talking about. He was recommended to me by another contractor. I will say that Bill came out with his crew when he said he would be out there. He worked through rain and mud to get the first work order done and he jumped through hoops to get our liner installed, albeit he let us know that it was a difficult task. Bill is gruff. If you can get past that, you can work with him adn will probably be satisfied with his work. The pluses were that he did what he said he would do and did a good job. The major minus is that with each quote there were additional costs. Some I could understand as you never know what is happening underground. Others I would have expected would have been included in the quote. So there was a little feeling of nickel and dimeing, but again, there were so many variables that were going on that it was tough for me to figure it all out. read more
