We took our son's Honda accord to this shop. Initially, the owner Robert told us it needed a timing chain. We agreed for the repairs on that. A few days later, we called and he told us the engine needed replacing and quote us $2000.00 plus the cost of the engine. I knew a used engine was 1/3 of that cost. So, we purchased an engine and had it delivered to the shop. After three weeks, he told us the car was ready. We went to pick it up, upon arrival, he told us he had to also replace the clutch and starter. He did not tell us beforehand nor did he give us a written estimate as required by law. A week went by, the clutch that he replaced failed- we don't believe it was defective in the first place. We took the car back to TLC hoping he would honor the warranty on the clutch he claimed he replaced. He did not, instead he charged us an additional $581.00 for a clutch cable (a $40.00) part. We believe this repair shop is a total ripoff and unethical. We will be taking legal action with the courts and BAR. Apparently, Robert has never heard of Bennett v. Hayes, or section of section 9884.9 of the Business and Professions Code. We spent a total of slightly more than $4100.00, it should have less than half of that since we purchased the engine ourselves. Do not do business with TLC! read more

My car had built up air in the brake lines over time some how and all of a sudden the front calipers started applying pressure without me pressing the brakes. I didn't have time to fix the issue to I sent my car into this shop after being recommended by someone off instagram. The service was amazing!!! I got updates and most of all he wasn't scared to ask questions about my car and how my brake system was set up. ( I have a hydro e- brake as well as a upgraded clutch master cylinder) My brake pedal also needed to be adjusted which is what causing pressure being applied to my brakes. I brought my classic Cadillac in for engine check light. I was in a hurry and couldn't fix it myself. Owner Robert is a super nice guy - but at the end of the day although he told me it was a temperature sensor, he didn't fix it. He had the car for a week. Genius parks it under a tree that is bleeding sap. ALL OVER MY WHITE CADDY. I was scheduled to go on another business trip and didn't have time or patience to deal with these morons. I brought it to a local detail shop. It was extremely complicated since I was out of town when they picked it up to work on it and return it. COST ME $500 Thanks Robert. Garbage work, $2600 to replace heads. Took almost 2 months, after following up from the original quote of $1300 finally got the truck back. Noticed broken connectors and loose mismatched bolts & nuts everywhere, I told them the motor needs G05 coolant and they still put the wrong coolant in. Engine light came on after a week, they broke a bunch of vacuum lines and the engine started stuttering so I decided it wasn't worth taking it back to get ripped off for more money. After having the truck non opt for a year I decided to rebuild the motor myself during my vacation. Finding all kinds of horrifying things. If you need simple inexpensive things done like a smog or oil change you're probably going to be ok, I personally wouldn't go back due to ethics. If you need minor $50+ or especially major work stay away!!!! read more

Couple years ago I bought a battery for my Chevy from TLC. I remember when Robert told me it's around $120, he said it comes with 5 year warranty. I assumed it's 3 year replacement and 2 year pro-rated. Few weeks ago I could feel the battery getting weak when starting the car in the morning. I went to TLC and Robert said the battery needs to be replaced. I said it's under warranty. He looked at his computer and said it had only 2 year warranty and it's already expired. He denied that he ever said that the warranty was for 5 years. Since I'm there, i asked him to check my AC. He checked and said it needs a compressor. When I asked him what would it cost, he said around $600. From past experiences, the amount I end up paying would always be higher than the verbal estimate. So i said "i'm not sure the car is worth spending this much to fix the AC". The moment I said this, he did not want me to leave without making me pay some money. So he said he's not sure it's the compressor and he has to do further test and he did not indicate charges to do the further test. After doing the unnecessary further testing, he confirmed that it does need a compressor and he charged me $50 for this confirmation. I have been a customer for more than 2 years and as time went by, Robert became more greedy and less trust worthy. On my way back home, I stopped at a number of mechanics in Pomona and ended up replacing the AC compressor for $475 including taxes. I also bought a battery from Sears with 2 year warranty for $78. If you happen to be a TLC customer, I suggest that you always ask for written quote on the work you will do there. Also I strongly recommend that you shop around and seek a second opinion. read more

I came here because I was having issues with my BMW. Two of my sisters and my mother have taken their cars here so I thought why not. I was not disappointed with his work. My car is running great and I felt that he was very straight forward and honest with me. However I did only give four stars because of his hourly rate. Every shop I have gone to has only ever charged a flat fee for diagnosing my car usually 90-120$. Robert charges for each hour he takes to figure out what the problem is as well as the hours for the work he does. I ended up paying about 200$ in parts and 350$ in labor. =/ I was pretty upset when I walked out but now the money is gone and my car is running fine soooo... read more

I had several coupons for smog checks, and after I called each station, TLC Auto Service in La Verne was the cheapest. When I arrived at TLC, I wanted to make sure that I was going to pay the exact amount that I was quoted over the phone. Robert(one of the mechanics) confirmed the price of the qoute was correct. I waited no longer than 20 minutes, I swear it felt like 10 minutes though, and the job was completed. Robert was even kind enough to show me how to take off that pesky "maintenance required" light on my dash. I called five plus tires places to get a plug in my tire and all of them were short and rude and said it would be anywhere from one to four hours! I have four kids so sitting at a place for that long won't work. When I called this place the gentleman that answered was so kind and so helpful. He told me to bring it in now and he could have it fixed in twenty minutes. I got to the shop and it was clean and the man took my car as soon as I got there. He fixed it in under twenty minutes and for a good price. I will be recommending them to my family and friends . Great experience. TLC auto repair is my favorite auto repair shop. I have taken my cars to Mieneke, Valvoline, Jiffy Lube, other small repair shops, and dealerships over the past 10 years and none have service me as well as Robert and the team at TLC auto. That's why I would highly recommend and given the five star rating you can expect high-quality professional service. The owner, Robert has truly created a family run business rooted in integrity and focused on getting job done well. Robert is kind and understanding by nature and easily able to articulate complex vehicle problems in a way that makes the customer feel like an expert. After taking my Kia to Meineke for a timing belt replacement the car broke down few months later. I returned under warranty, but it broke down again within 24 hours. Taking the issue to the Bureau of automotive repair, it went up the Meineke hierarchy and though Mieneke was found at fault they denied the repair, saying take us to court if you want. I took the car to Robert at TLC, he opened the engine realized it was a valve adjustment problem, sent the engine to the machine shop for repairs, and purchased a new engine to put in the car when it was found to be too damaged. This was accomplished in a week and with clear communication. He saved all the information necessary to clearly describe what had gone wrong with the repair. Now I have a chance to return to the Bureau of automotive repair and reissue a case against Meineke. There's nothing worse than feeling helpless and taken advantage of by a corporation. Worst auto shop in La Verne. When I took my car there I went in for a oil change with Synthetic blend and filter and he charged me 42$ for that. Then he tells me that I need new struts, air filter, tire rotation, brakes all around and new rotors cause he said "they could be warped"... so all that came out to 900$ after wards I look up that parts online and found out It was only about 200$ in parts and he charged me up the butt on parts and labor as the paper work says he but 250 as labor and the rest parts..... I took all the old parts to later find out that these parts did not have to be changed. Robert and TLC auto is a total scam and over charge on everything! read more
