Terrible and unacceptable business practices. I was overcharged on some items receipt compared to sticker. I called the store and Jay who happened to be my cashier also answered the phone. Jay was not particularly engaged nor apologetic. He never once said sorry. Jay first told me I had the option to drive back to the store for a refund or take store credit. After a lot of back and forth, Jay eventually figured out that he could take ownership to fix the error by calling monaris to issue a refund. That was a reasonable course of action except for the fact that when he called me back to let me know, he cared so little about clients and his mistake, he told me a refund was done and hung up on me before I got a word out. Amazon's customer service is excellent. They apologize for errors, and they certainly have much more competitive pricing nor do they overcharge. read more

Great variety of different products, brands and services with great and qualified personnel.

We received tremendous customer service from the store and in particular the store manager Chad. There were a ton of product shortages everywhere in town due to the global logistic crisis, but Chad and his team of store associates did everything they could, and got us our much needed stroller. There was a floor model available (which we understood to be brand new and unused), and though he could have sold it at full price due to the shortage and back order, he offered us a discount as well. It was our first time purchasing at TJ's, and all in all it was a great experience and would definitely go back again to mak more purchases. read more

The staff are very helpful at TJ's! My husband and I have our first baby on the way so shopping for items can be quite overwhelming. Where do we start? What's good? There's only so much you can research on the internet, but the when it comes to decision time, you need to look at the product in person. Store is good and some of the workers are nice....but one older lady keeps stalking around when I'm there as if I look like I'm up to no good. I dont go often but when I was preggo obviously I had a lot of window shopping to do. She seems to be pretending to be productive when she hangs around....I have anxiety so it really irks me so much I may not return very often unless I need to...I rarely return to places with stalkerish employees or/and owners. The other staff are fine though seems it's just her. I doubt its just me maybe no one else has noticed or am I just paranoid? It's not even asking if I need help...like literally just poking around. Using a camera would be better geezes. I don't look raggy but it makes me feel like I look to poor to be there. I even wear yoga type clothes. It just makes me leave empty handed and stressed out. I spent the afternoon trying to return a car seat that my daughter-in-law ordered on line. She ordered 2, opened one, found that it may be difficult for us to use in our car and asked me to return the other unopened one to the store while they keep the opened one. At the store, they opened the box and said that the car seat had been used, that the tag was removed, and that there are crumbs on the seat. They were not going to accept the return because they cannot sell a used car seat because the tag is broken. I said we never opened the sealed box and they said it is our word against theirs. In short, I was treated like the liar and it is up to me to prove that I did not use the car seat. Which I can't. After all, how do you prove we didn't reseal the box when we didn't even open the box? After two hours of getting my son and my daughter-in-law involved, we did get a store refund towards an even more expensive floor model. The lesson here is clear: 1. If you order things on line from this store and the item arrive at your door, you better count on your luck that it is in good shape and not used. If it turned out to be used and returned, you will have to prove that you didn't use it..... which is impossible because it is your word against theirs and you are guilty until proven innocent. 2. If you are a customer that like to take advantage of stores that accept returns after you used the item, this is the store that has now proven to me that they don't check all their returns. Just seal the box nicely and return it. They may not find out and just stiff the next customer and leave you free. I am glad I have other merchants to go to that appreciate good customers instead of fraudulent ones. I understand that retail is a difficult business and there are bad customers out there. However, if the merchant treats their 95% good customers as their 5% bad customers, then I think they deserve the bad customers and properly chase the good customers away. You know which group you belong, pick your store to go to. The final irony is that with the floor model they sold us, I ask them where is the tag that should not be broken. They said "oh, this is the floor model so the tag was removed." We should trust them to sell us a car seat with the tag removed but they do not trust us to return a car seat to them with the tag removed. In other words, we should trust them but they cannot trust us. read more

Seems that some people have had issues with their experience here. However, I was in and out in under 10 min with the organic crib mattress and sheet I needed. No one seemed overly thrilled to be at work, but I was helped quickly and staff were nice. That's all I needed. It probably helped that I had researched the item before I came in. Of places to buy stuff for kids in Vancouver, TJ's is by far the best. But that's not saying much, unfortunately. The TJ's on Marine Drive is the biggest and generally has the best selection. They carry just about everything you'd need for a kid, from cribs to bedding to clothes to car seats to bottles to strollers to carriers to bathtubs to potty training seats. If you need it for a kid, they probably have it, and have both an upscale line or two and a more economical line or two. Their prices are usually competitive with Babies R Us, if not lower, and they're always lower than the yuppie places like Crocodile that carry the same stuff. Why only three stars? A couple of reasons: 1) The staff here is terrible. They're always poorly staffed, and the people behind the register are generally clueless, which means long, long waits in line, even if only one person is ahead of you. When you're standing there with a three-week-old and two bottle parts you need, and you're waiting over 10 minutes for them to ring up one person, the wait is interminable. 2) If you need help with anything, like buying a car seat that's not out on the floor, or asking a question about a car seat, you'll have to wait up front for someone to help you -- which means waiting in line for 10 minutes while they try to figure out how to ring someone up. (The stroller area usually has a staff person; the rest of the store doesn't.) 3) They're slow to get the new stuff. When a new model or line of car seats or strollers come out, the stores in Ontario always seem to be listing them about a month before TJ's. And the stores in the States are always a few months ahead, and a hundred dollars cheaper. One tip: if you need to be in and out relatively quickly, you can go online and order what you need, and they'll deliver it to the store nearest you for free. So if you live in Kits and don't want to drive to Marine Drive, they'll deliver it to the 4th Ave. store for pickup. The 4th Ave. store is pretty quick with that. The Marine Drive store seems to be really slow with that -- I've seen a number of cashiers in there spend forever trying to figure out how to ring up the internet orders. read more

Taking on parenthood is intimidating, exciting, terrifying, and overwhelming - all at the same time. Adding to the responsibility of caring for a helpless human being comes the duty of soon-to-be-parents to learn as much as they possibly can about stuff like strollers, car seats, baby bottles and Baby Bjorns (which are awesome). I bought both the stroller and car seats here at TJ's because the guys who worked there knew the products and were able to answer me intelligently when I asked them "Is it safe?" As compared to the people who work at Babies-R-Us who looked at me blankly and answered every other question I had with "Ummmmm..." Go to this store instead of the one in Kits because this is much bigger and you'll just have more stuff to choose from. Like I said, if you're looking to buy a car seat or a stroller, this is the place to go. They know the products and can give you an honest assessment of what you need to buy according to your needs and your budget. I'd be giving this place 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that it seems like every time I've been here, they are always short 3 or 4 people so you'll need to be slick about trying to get someone's attention when you want to grill someone about whether you should get the baby blue car seat which matches your wife's eyes wonderfully or if you should get it in tan to match the interior of the mini-van you're eventually going to own. read more

They really have the worst customer service. I've been there multiple times, often considering really large purchases, only to walk around for the entire time and never be even greeted, let alone asked if I want help. Despite many employees running around (stocking things? Not sure, they look busy but aren't usually with customers). They do appear to have a huge selection of stuff, so maybe if you know exactly what you want and can go find it alone in the huge store, you'll be fine. For great customer service we go to Westcoast Kids in Richmond. Although they are a bit pricer and sometimes have less actually in stock, so it's a trade off you have to decide on. read more

Being a first time parent is hard enough, and you need a stores like this one that can help you out in touch situations.. for example, what the best car seat to get?, Crib, furniture, pretty much the BASIC necessities you need to keep your baby happy, comfortable and well you know... ALIVE!! ;) I like coming to Tj's because its pretty easy to find the things you need for your home!.. we got a really nice umbrella stroller here and a feeding chair... all very good quality and i know these products will last for years to come, or even for my next kid or kids OR 5 more after that...... ya right!! i'm still getting used to my first one :/ no seriously... i LOVE kids!! i even consider myself to be a crazy kid at heart! Oh TJs. How horrendous is your customer service? Let me count the ways. 1. When you never called me to let me know that the car seat I ordered arrived. I had to call you + then you weren't even apologetic about it. 2. The kid ringing me up at the counter chewing on a piece of plastic like cow chewing cud. Gross. 3. When there's no one to be found on the floor for help + I find 3 employees behind the register. One drinking a smoothie, another making a personal phone call and another talking to smoothie girl. WTF. 4. The time when I was looking for an item + I had to find someone to help (which is the usual scenario). The employee was so irritated that I even asked (which is the usual attitude). She stomped over to where the item was located. I was wearing my baby - the item was waaaay up high. She pointed to the item up high + said, "Here.". Then walked away. Um, I'M WEARING A BABY. A LITTLE HELP HERE??? I had to struggle on my tip toes to reach. WTF. In conclusion, I live super close to TJs but I am never shopping there again. Don't Shop Here!! I went in today to purchase a Halo Co-Sleeper and thought I would inquire about the Stroller Ride Along that I purchased during my last $500 shop at the store!! During my last shop (the trusted staff) helped me pick the "right" universal ride along, but when we attached it to the stroller we found that it wasn't safe, and not feasible for the type of stroller we had. Today the incredible gentleman helping me suggested that same thing... that it wasn't workable and he tried all kinds of adjustments to make it work!! He suggested I speak to the Manager as we had thrown out the box during our purge of readying for baby. I wasn't looking to get my money back (and by the way the store asks for your phone number to track purchases and the ride along was logged) but rather I wanted to ask the Manager to inform her staff that they should consider not selling this $89.00 item to other families that own the Booklet Stroller!! Nope - she went on to argue that this was my perspective, and that it is a parent's discretion to use this add-on etc. She argued that it fit... and yes it does, but ironically it doesn't fit a child because of the position of the Booklet handlebar. She was rude, she was aggressive, she was dismissive and she REFUSED to give me her name so that I could follow-up in an email. I left the store and promised never to return to make another purchase. The gentleman helping me was incredible... even during the awkward discussion he interrupted to excuse himself and apologize that it didn't work out!! Why isn't he the Manager!! Upon my departing... the Manager of which I have no name told me that she wasn't trying to be rude, but rather she has a health problem and her voice sounds that way!! It wasn't her tone that offended me; it was that she was okay selling an item to families that may endanger their child! So if you want to shop at a store with these values, then shop at TJ's because they will fight you until the end to defend their salesmanship!!! I find TJ's less pretentious than other vancouver baby stores. The store is more like a warehouse, and they have a decent amount of space. This lets them have floor models of a lot of stuff, so you can spend a lot of time just browsing and fiddling with all the things. I think a commonality amongst vancouver baby retailers is their challenge to have great customer service. This store could use a few more associates during busy times for sure and an expanded cash, but if you are patient, it isn't that bad. We've purchased a variety of things from this store and large purchases such as our stroller, and I've been reasonable satisfied each time, plus I don't have to drive right into town, which is great! read more

I have been going to the TJ's since I was pregnant because of its wide variety and selection of products, and of course because we did not know where else to go to get baby stuff. But I get more and more disappointed with this company. First of all, I always hated their sneaky way of marketing their own product: Guzzy and Guss (G+G). If you go there and ask for their recommendations, like we did, they would right away say excellent thing about G+G and bash other brands, making the G+G looks really good. But you know what they don't tell you, they MAKE the G+G! Which is fine if they don't hide this fact and pretend they are giving you an objective expert review!! The service is horrible there. Most of the staff there are rude and seem very annoyed that you take up their precious time! Also, most of the items are overpriced. You can get a much better deal from Toysrus or Room for 2. Finally, this is actually why I have to write about them here, make sure you keep the stupid receipt for your purchase! Cuz if you don't and it has any kind of problem: they will make you go through hell! I bought a gate from them and there was a part missing, so we went back to try to get the part (not for free. I mean, we know we don't have a receipt). So (1) we were at the store on Saturday and someone told us we need to call a particular staff on Monday. So (2) I called on Monday and they told me that person only works on T-F. Fine. (3) Called Tuesday, spoke to that person (finally!) and he said he does not take care of gate (WTF!) and he transferred me to another person. (4) The other staff was "away from her desk" so I had to leave a message. (5) Try to call the store again, told them my situation, she said I have to come down to the store to look for yet another person to "see if they have that part"!!! After 5 freak's steps, are they telling me to go back to step 1???? I swear I will never go back there again!!! (except to get this gate part of course, lol) read more

It pays to be informed. I came here for a new stroller and after doing my research on a few of them online and a few other kiddie places, TJ's has quite informed staff. As long as you can keep up with their stroller lingo. They are all well versed and give fairly unbiased reviews of each stroller they introduce. They showed us how to fold the stroller, manoeuvre around, and attach pieces together. This can be all overwhelming to a parent but they do make things look easy and then they ask us to try operating the stroller ourselves. Now that's hands on help! Just make sure you don't get caught up during their busy hours. Almost everyone gets help if staff aren't super busy. read more

This place is horrible. Do not take your stroller/ car seat here for repair! The sales staff are pretty bad too. We were on a flight where our stroller got banged up and the car seat handle stopped working correctly. Clearly, the car seat had been through a lot as there were large gauges out of the hard plastic around the seat. We spoke to the airline and showed them the problems and they authorized repair or replacement of the adapter and car seat. They recommended we go to TJ kiddies because they have an account there for repairs. I took it to TJ kiddies repair on Marine Drive and the guy there looked at it and called the airline. On the call, he convinced the airline that there was nothing wrong with our car seat or adapter. He said, to me, that if he replaced our car seat, he was afraid that the airline would send spy employees to come after him (yes, he claimed that the airline would come and ask for this seat and say he shouldn't have replaced it.... even after the airline already agreed and authorized repair or replacement). We were then stuck with a damaged and potentially unsafe car seat thanks to the horrible repair department at TJ kiddies. Another argument that the repair guy made was "I've seen worse"... Great argument! After our experience, we had to do back to the airline. The airline replaced our car seat from a different store all together (not TJ kiddies). I do not recommend anyone go to TJ kiddies for anything, especially for repairs. What a waste of time and hassle they caused us. If an airline recommends that you use TJ kiddies, tell them "it's too far away, I need to go to a different store" and then go anywhere else - anywhere is better than this place. read more

This is the Kiddies store close to me. It is clean and close. They are usually really good about customer service which is nice and have great deals on the baby furniture and strollers. I recommend Tj's Kiddies store. The ladies there just could get my son to laugh and everyone kind to us. I had a much better experience with their explain any products instructions. I love that there are parking spots for expecting mothers. When I was pregnant I definitely like it! read more

For a store that sells items that can be quite expensive the outside of the store sure looks ugly and uninviting. The inside of the store is a little confusing. Car seats are on one side and strollers are on the other. The family and I were wandering around for almost 10 minutes by the time someone offered to help us. The woman who helped us was nice, but she didn't seem to know if the car seat and adapter we wanted to buy would fit our stroller, she had to ask another employee. Everything is stored in the back so it took a while to finish up in the store, we knew what we wanted and still spend a good 40 minutes getting everything together. The store was not busy when we went in today and I can only imagine what a nightmare this place can be when it is busy. This store does offer a lot of variety and that's probably what's keeping it alive, no pregnant woman wants to run from place to place getting baby gear. read more

Poorly trained customer service. Upon purchasing several items and leaving the store, the security alarm sounds. The first reaction I get is a store employee approaching me saying "excuse me sir, did you pay for those items?" My response, "yes I did". Store employee "I'm going to need to see your receipt". New parents don't waste your time and money here. I have been to this store on a few occasions to prepare for our new baby's arrival. This store is not equipped with the knowledge of their own products necessary to guide new parent purchases. We bought a mattress and did our due diligence to ask about the contents, safety and toxicity of the mattress. The sales person told us the mattress was PVC, vinyl and all the "bad stuff" free. After opening the mattress later as we could prepare the room, right on one of the tags it says that the mattress contains vinyl. I brought the mattress back to TJ's to ask more about it and replace it because they simply could not provide answers about the product. I told them ahead of time by phone that we had purchased our mattress likely over a month ago and no longer had the box. They told me I could return it for a re-storage fee of 15% and in store-credit. So I hauled myself - 7 days away from my due date - down to the store with the mattress only to learn I could not return it after all because it fell beyond their one-month policy. Worse, when I tried to purchase a simple lock for the seat belt for car seat installation, I was directed to a guy (working in the installation dept) who knew nothing about the locks. He then directed me to the front desk to call a person who was not even in-store that day. In the end, no one could help me and I had to bring the mattress back home and left with no seat belt lock. I called to issue a complaint later and talked to the store manager who was extremely unsympathetic. When I stated I felt their staff needed to know more about their products than they do he said, "Would you expect Canadian Tire to know what all their products are made of?" I had no idea this "BC-born baby store" was trying to be like a big-box Canadian Tire. I actually get better service there than I did at TIJ's! On a separate occasion, I went in with a friend to look at strollers - again the staff were impatient and could not provide her with anything beyond basic information. Please consumers, use your consumer dollar power in a place that actually knows something about the products they are selling. I recommend Baby's World - the staff is fantastic - patient and product-knowledgable. In the end, after numerous phone calls I managed to contact the company who makes the mattress. After the service person had to check back three times with someone else at the company I was finally told the tag on the mattress was a mistake and there was no vinyl or chemicals in the mattress. Geez...what a person has to go through just to ensure their child is breathing in healthy air while they spend 15 hrs sleeping. read more

The variety of the goods in this store were fairly good, but the day we went it may have just been too busy for great service. This was the first store we had visited and so it was a good start with lots of selection, but compared to Baby's World the service was nothing special, although the staff are there to answer your questions as best as they can. read more

I bought a shower gift online and selected the $7.00 gift wrapping option. When I picked it up at the store the wrapping was AWFUL!!!! Cheap cheap dollar store paper with weird realistic babies faces on it and some mismatched ribbon. Totally cheap. It was so ugly cheap and outdated I was shocked. read more

This store is a bit pricey. Bought a crib and some other items, but one part of the crib was defective so I had to go back and return it. The store manager was very friendly and quickly helped with the return. However, during the shopping experience, I discovered that the knowledge base of the staff is a bit hit and miss, not everyone knew what they are talking about and some were a bit impatient or indifferent when I had to ask questions about their products. read more

Every parent will goto this store one time or another, and if you haven't you should. There one problem, if you need help from staff, most of them aren't much help. However this one employee knows her stuff, she is the absolute best. She helped us make the right choice for our stoller, car seat, and crib. I would not recommend registering with them They provide very poor customer service, they do not seem to take responsibility for their faulty products, their actual stores do not seem to be able to communicate with their online services, and they have unfair return policies (10-30 days). I have had several challenges with being registered with TJ Kids. I registered at TJ's when we were expecting our twins and having a baby shower. The problems began when my guests from out of town were buying items and were not given the option to have me pick it up in a store location. They were therefore forced to pay for shipping even though I could have easily picked it all up. Then, after the twins were born, the expensive twin stroller had a wheel defect leaving me housebound for a couple weeks before I could make it into the store. I was then told that the store was not responsible and that I would need to contact the manufacturer. They did not offer any assistance. At the same time, I tried to return some swaddlers because I had discovered that the twins did not like being swaddled. I was told that even though I was registered, they could not access the online records. They said that if I returned with the order number, they could track it down that way. After digging through emails to find all my order numbers (because the emails did not mention which items were purchased), I returned to the store to be informed that I had exceeded the return window and that they would not give me a credit for the items. This window is 30 days. Given that I would have had to return my items before my babies were 6 days old in order to meet this deadline (given that the gifts were purchased ahead of time for the shower), it was extremely unrealistic. Even in the first few months with babies and especially twins, it is very difficult to leave home for some of us. I think this shows that TJ Kids is unfamiliar with their customer base. I would not recommend shopping and especially having your registry with this store. They also do not provide quality customer service that you find in other Vancouver baby stores or other perks of registration provided by other stores such as discounts on unpurchased registry items or twin discounts (often 10%). read more

Pleasantly surprised by our experience here today. There were a ton of sales (Boxing Day week) and except for 1 lady, every associate we talked to was quite knowledgeable about the products and pricing. The store is not as showroom as other baby stores (lusso, wck) but had a ton of selection. Also, on their sale items, they allow returns for store credit. At other stores, most items are final sale. The store in kelowna is as equally understaff with staff members completely stunned, long waits in the store and out. 4months I've waited for my kids beds. When I get them home and and set them up, I open the slats only to discover they are covered in mold!!! Huge ordeal just to even get someone to take my call. ( I was actually told that I was not as important as the customers in the store!) Not to mention that I STILL have NOT gotten my ladder for the bunk that also comes with the child support safety rail for the top bunk. This type of service is totally unacceptable.
