I decided to get my first tattoo on my forearm as a sleeve. I live near TJ Tattoo Studio so I figured it'd be easiest to drop in there. However, before I decided to stop by I checked the online site and saw all of the artwork and information/advice that was provided. This helped me out a lot before going into the studio. I particularly admire TJ's Japanese style vibes. So when I got to the studio I met with the one and only TJ, and wow as an artist/owner my first impression of TJ was that he seemed very humble and open. He helped me figure out what I wanted and where I wanted my tattoo which took a couple of minutes. After my deposit he began the sketch and when it finished I got even more excited since it looked so nice. I went in for a total of 10 hours or so and there was never a second that I felt uncomfortable. The store manager Lucious was there and gave me lots of advice, he was also hella lit. TJ also makes sure you're ready and comfortable before he begins his amazing artwork and while he's doing it. The place is also very clean and organized, love the new renovations. In the end I am super happy and stoked about this first tattoo. TJ is an amazing artist and deserves more recognition for sure. If you're ever in need of unbelievable tattoo artwork and fun experiences I really recommend this place. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for one tattoo each. I understand it was on the spot and had no appointment but we already had the pictures we wanted and they were very simple. Mine is no bigger than a 2x2 inch tattoo with simple lines and miniscule shading. His was the same thing but around 3x3 for his larger stature. Overall, we were pressured to get it and the artist basically took my photo and had the papers for us to sign all ready before I could even answer. Disliked the amateur work and the place entirely. Got ripped off. A half sleeve elsewhere was even cheaper than two tiny tattoos here. ** Update! In response to the comment the owner wrote after messaging me, I'm going to say that I wrote this review 2 years later after getting more experienced with tattoos and this place was actually my first one! I would like to say that isn't comparing prices and quality the first thing one would do when committing to something such as a tattoo? They are cheaper than let's say three kings tattoo or Jings but quality is what you pay for. I was searching for a clean, non-crowded place to get a new piercing, but needed them to carry titanium/hypoallergenic jewelry since I have a nickel allergy. Here's what I learned from my conversation with them, in order: 1. They ONLY carry stainless steel jewelry. So if you have any allergy or skin sensitivity, too bad. 2. ***this is the kicker*** - they ONLY do standard EARLOBE piercings! $25. I would guess this is done with a gun instead of a needle, since no real piercer would limit themselves to just earlobes... In short, tat shop only. Great experience overall when I got my tattoo from TJ. My friend who had his half sleeve done had recommended this place for me. I sent a message through their Facebook page and TJ was very responsive. When I went in for the initial consultation I had told him everything that I wanted in my tattoo. He gave me his advice and what he thought would look best for the tattoo that I wanted to get on my inner bicep. Originally he told me to just stick to one animal and not the original three that I wanted. But later on he had managed to incorporate everything that I wanted in the tattoo design. It was great since he made the design very specific and unique to me. I put down $100 deposit, and within a week he had the full design/sketch ready. The session took about two hours and TJ does a very good job at making sure you are comfortable during the entire session. He has a lot of experience and the detail of the tattoo was on point. The scales of the koi fish and the details of the tiger came out great. I was extremely pleased with what he did and getting my tattoo done here. The price was very reasonable as well. read more

I went here to get a tattoo because I came here before with my friend when she got her tattoo so it felt like a familiar place. The customer service was poor. It was my first tattoo and he knew that but he was very unhelpful and unwelcoming. He acted like I was wasting his time and like he didn't want to do business with me. I asked for his input and he just sighed and did a BS job. He was mean and unfriendly. He treated me like a dumb and annoying kid instead of a customer. I almost just left without getting anything done. However, my tattoo came out just fine and he gave very clear directions on how to take care of it. TRUST ME. if something is worth getting...it's worth the money and time. and TJ's work is worth it's weight in gold. the staff there was upstanding and nice. i didn't ever catch attitude from them on any of my visits...so i'm not sure where the heck people are coming from when they say that. and the jewelry is beautiful, sophisticated, exotic and stylish...so even if you aren't in the market for any sort of body manipulation, it's worth looking at the adornments. i bought a lovely cocktail ring there carved from one piece of labrodorite that consistently garners me compliments to this day. read more

Got a tattoo from Jinna last night and I'm absolutely in love. She was incredibly professional, courteous, and considerate. I also asked her to do the tattoo in a spot that can be very tricky for straight lines and everything turned out wonderfully. In addition, she touched up an old tattoo of mine that I had gotten for cheap. She completely remade the tattoo into exactly what I had always intended it to look like. I've gotten two tattoos from TJ. The first one I had done about a year ago, a relatively simple wing design that I brought in myself. I just had my second one done, a tarot-themed half sleeve that I asked TJ to design for me with several criteria. The shop itself is small, but clean and well-lit. At street-level you can't really see anything inside, but it's not at all an intimidating environment and if you're a tattoo virgin it's as welcome a place as you're likely to find. TJ runs the shop himself most of the time, and he's a humble, quiet guy. I emailed TJ with a proposal for my second piece and he promptly replied. Within a few days he had the illustration completed, and after I requested some minor edits it was finalized the following day. My initial inquiry was on a Sunday and the tattoo was completed in two sessions (between 7-8 hours total) by the following Saturday. TJ's designs have a distinctly Japanese aesthetic to it which is exactly what I was looking for. I was really blown away by the original illustration even though I asked for some edits to keep it in theme with what I wanted. He has an intelligent approach to design and makes insightful suggestions if you are unsure about certain details. Prices vary depending on the complexity/size of your piece, but if you do some research on hourly rates for NYC tattoo artists you'll find his prices to be very competitive. Cash is preferred, but he takes credit cards with an 8% surcharge. That said, I do think he undersells himself at the moment to attract more business. He has the talent to be pricing higher, and I suggest you walk into the shop and check out some of his work to judge for yourself. Once he gets some more reviews the prices are sure to go up and I expect there to be a waiting list eventually. read more
