I gave 7 Train tattoo 1 star because of my experience and the lack of care the artist put into my piece. I went to this location with a friend and because of doing research and seeing that they do great work and have won awards. Looking back in hind sight, most of the work done on their Instagram was from the owner Ricky (he is the best artist at the shop it seems). I would not recommend people of color with brown skin tones to come here . My artist was Lan and I realize now that he is good with black and grey pieces, but not colored pieces, especially for brown POC. I also would not recommend Lan for pieces that are customized and need an artist's input. He is good with pieces that are exactly as it is. He is not good when it comes to working with the customer to enhance a piece. I got my tattoo done in early May of 2019. I wanted a customized piece of the national bird and flowers of my home country. I specifically requested for the tattoo to be on my stomach to cover up a birthmark and scar. However it didn't completely cover my scar so he added a blue background. I paid $450 for my piece and also tipped so it came up to $520. When my tattoo was healing I noticed that parts of it spread through the skin. After a few months, I reached out to him for my free touch up. The session was 20 minutes, he added black lining into the piece and tried to cover up the smudging with ink that he thought would match my skin tone. I tipped him $50 just for his time and because I believe it's important to tip a service. However a few months later again, I had issues with my piece because the cover up he did was darker than my skin tone. I reached out to him about it and he said to comeback and he'll try again to match my skin. I told him I would rather him cover it up with butterflies. In December I went in for him to fix the issue, and during this day I felt super uncomfortable. The other times I came to the place, I was with someone and also there were not many men there. Today there were four guys there, and ever time I got up to look at my piece, all of them kept looking at me and my stomach and so I felt uncomfortable. Also, Lan already chose the design for the butterfly and everything without even discussing it with me. I didn't want to make a big fuss because I appreciated him offering to do it for free, but looking back, I should have spoken up for myself. He chose butterflies that were not detailed and just colored. I had to ask him to put in black lining. I felt super uncomfortable because I was surrounded by men and also because I didn't feel like being the annoying customer to an artist. But later that night I realized that he only put antennas on one of the three butterflies. I felt like the cover up was half-assed and made my tattoo look worse. I reached out to him on Instagram and he said he would add the attenas and only charge me tip. At first I said okay, but he keeps making mistakes, and he should not force a customer to pay tip for a mistake he has to fix. When I told him why I didn't say much about my dissatisfaction at the shop and wanted a better resolution, he left me on "seen." I waited some time for my tattoo to heal and for him to respond, but he has not. Therefore, I am writing this bad review. Screen shots of our Instagram convo are attached. Their work is amazing and they were especially kind to me since they knew it was only my second tattoo and would be patient with me, offering five minute breaks whenever I kept twitching and flinching from the pain. I didn't get the guys name but he seemed pretty young but his work was a 10/10 as well as his service. Will ask for him again for my next piece. The pricing is decent as well, 150/hr plus 18-20% tip isn't bad if you're paying for what you're getting, much better than settling for some underground place that'll give me a fading tattoo, blurry and/or hepatitis. Ricky is also the most skilled artist I've ever seen, he was doing a woman's sleeve when I was coming in and it was detailed as hell, and it must have taken a while. I enjoyed my time at 7 train tattoo and my piece came out gorgeous. Will be back at the shop soon! read more

Came in dude had a very i don't care type of attitude. When working wise to come up with a design felt like he just wanted to rush and what ever type of job. Even showing a picture dude had just complained instead of trying to find the exact design. Also bit over pricey for its quality wise. Some of the design areas are crooked. Very crap of a job will never come here again. Recommend to not go. Seems like they are nice to their kinds and talk in their language and laughing instead of helping and making the customer feel comfortable. read more

The tattoo artist did an incredible job covering up a previous tattoo job. Not the slightest clue that there was a name underneath this feather tattoo. The level of pain was the bare minimum. Highly recommended! I will be back soon!! read more

Would have given. 5 stars but felt they were quite unprofessional. I set up an appointment, start getting tattooed and everything seems.... ok. I say ok because I have a strong feeling that they are talking about me... I don't speak the language so I cannot be sure and push it out of my head. But then another customer comes in to ask some questions of the artist working on me. The customer has a strong stutter but is kind and complimentary to the artist as he's a big fan and follower of his work. He sets up an appointment and leaves.... as SOON as he left, my artist and two others there were making fun of him for a good five minutes- this i KNOW as they were obviously mimicking his stutter and laughing. At this point, my earlier suspicions were confirmed, they were most likely making fun of me as well. Found this to be ridiculously unprofessional and insulting- I and this other person come to you because we admired your work, not to be mocked for some stupid reason as if your staff were high school children. The price was very fair and my tattoo looks beautiful but don't think I will ever return as I would not feel comfortable setting foot in your shop. read more

I was itching for a new tattoo...something super small...but it had been 2 years since my last, and I was ready. Though I was not tattooed by Rickky, I have nothing but great things to say. It took less than an hour to get what I wanted done and I'm happy with it. They are very reasonably priced, but let's be real, expensive or inexpensive, if you're putting something on your body, it shouldn't matter the price as long as you're happy with it. I've gotten all three of my tattoos here. The first two were done by LanXiang, absolutely good work! The second one was done by another female artist recently. Everything is well except when I texted the studio afterward hoping to get the contact of the artist for future touch up, they haven't reply back and it has been many days. read more

Why aren't there more reviews up?!! Ricky was so excellent. I just finished an hour-ish long session with him yesterday. I was a walk-in after I checked out their stuff on Instagram. I explained what I wanted and gave him the illustration and he completely got it, like boom. Ricky literally materialized the design exactly as I had imagined it in my head. The level of detailing and thin smooth lines were so freggen expert. I am SO HAPPY with the design, uploading it for folks to see his skills. The actual shop is right off Main Street in flushing, super chill and unpretentious but striking red walls and giant lion dance puppet head resting casually on a shelf are lovely touches. All the folks in the shop were also nice about letting me bring a friend. Afterwards I bought some tattoo goo and went through after care instructions. I went to 7 train Tattoo with my best friend to get a Tattoo, first of all it was a last minute decision and I wanted to get it done ASAP, I was told to call at a certain time while the owner found me an artist to tattoo what I wanted ( Name on my right leg ). I was told to come in at a certain time and there was no wait being that I made an appointment! Wait time was amazing and my Tattoo artist Zoe was very sweet and she is very talented! very misleading in terms of when me and my friend walked in asked our first time tatoos we were given with a rude nasty Im too busy come back with appt. It was a money issue in their language they were criticizing our choice of tatoos. If you cant do it just say so. and it didnt seem clea to me it waa sort or clutter garbage.me and my girl left. felt discriminated cuz we are not like them. why run a salon when you want overpriced tats. totally blee away our ideas. that young guy giving us dirty looks.
