The gym has a friendly, inviting atmosphere and Jonesly has created a culture that promotes encouragement and cooperation. He is happy to answer questions and explain techniques - I really appreciate his patience. His focus on safety is important to me; he wants members to understand the equipment and use it properly, and how to keep themselves and others safe (as safe as you can practicing a combat sport). My overall confidence has grown through his program.

No matter what level you start at with Carlos, he makes you feel like you belong and helps you see your potential to become even better. Everybody at the gym is really positive and friendly. It's a beautiful training space too.

I have NEVER felt disrespected as a woman in his gym, I was always treated as an equal. I think what he is trying to do for men's mental health is a must needed. The reason he does not want to coach women fighters is NOT because he is a "misogynist pig", the reason he has chosen not to train female fighters is because the strain that a human body is put under when preparing for a fight is very harsh. The process can affect our ability to carry a child in the future, it effects our periods and the constant hits to our bodies can affect our bones in a very negative way which we would especially feel after going through menopause. Women now days do have a lot of different "outlets", whereas men do not have as many "outlet" opportunities and definitely need them (just look at men's mental health). He has stated in many of his videos that he hates how in other gyms, women have been used solely as a "sale" for the gym by using photos of hot women, instead of just focusing on the fighters (be men or women). Carlos has the kindest sole for humans and has often trained people for free if they have not been able to pay. He has helped countless amounts of men from killing themselves by being there for them. He has given fighters an opportunity to fight and grow. He has done so much for the Muay thai community and has a gift for teaching it. His wording in his videos may be misleading of what he is trying to say and English is not his first language, but if you actually sit down with him and talk to him you may actually understand what he is really trying to say.

Unfortunately, I couldn't even attend for a month to try it out... I got beaten senseless by half of a class of 10-12 people during beginner class "light/technical" sparring. I hit everyone half speed in the head once (pulling all my punches besides maybe 1 or 2) and they flipped out like I had just slapped their mothers. After the sparring, I got ceremoniously bopped in the head by Coach Eddie the Magnificent. On my 5th day of class to boot... I basically paid $300+ just to get a concussion and have my SPINE damaged. Very disturbing experience... I did not enjoy these furious 'ommpa loompa's' and SIR PETTY EDDIE slapping me in the head while I was dazed and confused. #LeaveYourNapoleanComplexesHome #NoBueno #InPainaYearLater #TheDirtyDozen #CheaperbytheDozen #CheckingTeeps #RabbitPunchMadness #HadtoSupermanThatYouKnowWhat #GotPunchedintheBackoftheHeadsooooManyTimes

I was excited to hear that there was a champion fighter only a mile from the hotel I was staying at so I asked if I could come in and try the class. They emailed me back fairly quickly saying that they'd love to have me, which made me happy to go. My instructor told me to sign up for a beginner class. When I got there we did some warmups, but no jump rope like I'm used to. I was definitely the oldest in class. According to the schedule, it was a beginner class, but it seemed more like a kids class to me. During the time I was there, we did technical sparring. I was happy to be paired with more advanced, older students (the one girl won her last fight), and then also some kids. I felt a little out of my element, and I def. got punched in the face by a teenage boy at least once lol. I had cut my eye earlier in the day so it was bloodshot and kept watering. Def. not a good look, and maybe I shouldn't have even taken class. Oh well. After class, I got asked for a payment of $30, which I would have liked to have known up front, but nonetheless, I think it's a reasonable price for sure. I would have appreciated having more instruction on skills and technique though. Coach Eddie was walking around making suggestions, but my more advanced partners were pretty quiet. I did learn a defense move and quick, follow up counter attack to kicks, but it was mostly sparring and not so much instruction at this particular session. I'd say this class is really intense. So if you are looking to fight, this would def. be the place for you. Also, take it seriously. I stayed after to watch the advanced class and I have to say it was pretty intimidating, and Coach Eddie doesn't accept anything less than your best. If you are in town temporarily, def. talk to the gym about trying a class, but maybe call and get more details first so you know what to expect.
