This a first impression review. I am 20 years of age. Male. Today, I decided to go in to Sitan Gym CT and try out a free introductory class they offer. I entered the one training room there is - which proved itself spacious and effective enough for training - and saw students and trainer assistants alike getting ready to train. I couldn't tell who was who at first though but it was no matter because as soon as someone took notice of me, I stated I was interested in taking the free intro. class and in no time I was sent on my way with no problems. The customer service is friendly and efficient, which made me feel like I was in good hands. The teacher assistant, Terry, as he was preparing some paperwork for me, even told me that they were going to have my back in there. An easy statement to say but it was still reassuring to say the least. After I gave in the paperwork your supposed to fill out (like your name, date of birth, contract signatures, and emergency contacts), I kind of sat on the side and continued to get ready for what I expect to be some good training. However, I sat on the side kind of not knowing what to do next once I was ready to do something, but it was fine because a student confronted me and recommended me to start stretching. I had already known that, duh; stretch to prepare for physical activities, but it was nice to get that push to get started, very thoughtful of him. Yet, the action of the student confronting me for the sake of aiding me, bettering me, didn't stop there. No it continued through the hour of training from others as well, and before I knew it that hour flew by. The ambience of this gym screams the quality of family, and I believe that's something everyone needs in the process of doing. And you know what it doesn't stop at the notion of family, Coach Eddie, who supervised the class training today, is a Champion Muay Thai fighter, with years of experience to my understanding. He is an active fighter who competes in tournaments, and he is also a bridge. He does training in Thailand, the motherland of Muay Thai, to aid him in his competition. Everything he has experienced over there, in his competitions, everything, is connected right back to Sitan Gym CT, hence why he is a bridge. Its really quite amazing to know the grade of knowledge I have given myself access to. I can predict that this gym is going to be a great place to nurture my technique and spirt because of the gym's ambience and the leadership Couch Eddie puts out. Right after my training hour was up, I sat there, and thought whether this was what I wanted. In no time however, I signed right up because I concluded how I had felt then, which is what I am writing now. For the past couple of years, I've been looking for the right school to learn the true art of Muay Thai and I truly believe that I've found it here at Satan Gym. I live in Ansonia and I've done the commercial schools of kickboxing which for a beginner there's nothing wrong with these types of gym but I personally felt that it was catered more towards women and I wanted more techniques. Hey, my wife just signed up this past week at one of these schools (very proud of her for doing so ) I've also done kickboxing at a karate school and there were times, when I felt like being in hard core boot camp class. I started looking for schools on the internet and came across Sitan Gym in Norwalk and proceeded to read a bit about the gym. As I started learning what this gym was about and that the owner was an active Muay Thai fighting Champion, I came across his name (Eddie Martinez) and I couldn't believe my eyes because that happens to be my name also so I said to myself, this has to be the gym I've been looking. I stopped by the following morning and was greeted by 3 extremely friendly am members that were just hanging out and then Eddie walks in and we both shared an unbelievable coincidence about our names. Eddie and I spoke for a bit and he started the AM class, unfortunately I did not stay that first day but , I did return the following Monday for an intro class and automatically was hooked. the workout was intense but good. Eddie worked with me personally for most of the hour and if he wasnt working with me, he still kept an eye on me while working our with one of his students. On this first day everyone from Eddie to all his AM students made me feel that I had made the right choice by coming to this gym. I'm proud to say, that on my third day back to Sitan Gym I decided to become a full time member and be part of something special the Muay Thai Family. read more

Before I came to the USA i did some research where I be training. After spending some time on google and trying places Sitan Gym was chosen by me. Why? 1. The gym looked like the real thing. A lot of martial arts gyms( if they can be called that) in US are based on people sweating and being lied that they are doing good job. In the end of the day they learn nothing and end up being absolutely confused about their capabilities. Sitan Gym is nothing like this. You train the basic, classic style of Muay Thai. This style comes from Thailand where coach Eddie spends a lot of his time off, training with the best in the World. This style has produced generations of champions just like him. 2. Coach Eddie is still an active fighter. And a champion at several federations. It makes all the difference when you train with someone who still knows the game. His approach is good for everyone. From the everyday sports person who wants to improve and try something new to the addicted Muay Thai artists. And I respect that a lot. 3. The people there are gold. I repeat gold. Everyone is friendly, supportive and helpful. The team teaches you that being humble and hard working always pays off. Everything is calm and people are enjoying their comradery. Everyone is pushing you to become a better person and a martial artist. Based on these three reasons I highly recommend that place for everyone. Because Muay Thai teaches discipline, superior focus under pressure, improved mental strength and of course it improves your health in general. So do not be shy. Ive been training in various forms of martial arts since i was a kid from Karate to kung fu to American Kickboxing to the sweet science of boxing. Muay Thai seemed like the next toughest challenge to take on. A lot of the schools claim to teach Muay Thai because its the fastest growing combat style and every average Joe thinks they can go to a few classes and try out for the UFC. Most of the guys in the UFC don't even have traditional Muay Thai background and Technique. Because of the popularity of the MMA any one who can throw a punch and a kick all of the suddent trains muay thai which is really not the case. I didnt realize the real difference until i went to Thailand on vacation and saw that everything i was being taught was wrong. The other schools were either teaching kickboxing or boxing with karate kicks. i spent a ton of money going up to Boston and New York to train at real Muay thai gyms (Sityodtong and Wat) and then i saw that Sitan had come to Norwalk so i had to stop by. Coach (Kru) Eddie is still and active fighter and helps with both the physical and more importantly the mental aspects of the sport. A lot of the other teachers before him hadnt even been in the ring so they didnt know how to approach techniques or mental awareness in a live combat scenario. My daughter and I have been trained in muay thai in China and made a couple trips to Thailand for training in muay thai camps as well. We recently moved to the area and tried a "name brand" Gym which admittedly provided a good enough workout for the body - if all you want to do is sweat in a class - but forgot about the brain. It became rote and unchallenging. Needless to say we stopped going and were thrilled when we found Sitan. If you're looking for authentic muay thai training, that gives you the gift of actually having a useful skill once you've spent your time and money, this is the place! Coach Eddie is a pro who consistently challenges us every time. He is not a replaceable, cookie cutter "instructor", he is a COACH. No class is exactly the same and you cannot go on auto-pilot here. He cares about proper form and trains and DEVELOPS us into potential fighters (if we want). Happily, Sitan also has the atmosphere of a team. It's inclusive and welcoming - we are not just an impersonal number here. Even with an unrelated injury, he has managed to provide advice and alternatives that continue to improve my skills and my fitness level. Looking solely for a good workout at the time and having never heard of Muay Thai before, I was hesitant about my first class experience. He teaches with meticulous technicality and professionalism, all while making your time in class fun and exciting. Yes, he will kick your butt. But trust me, it's worth it! I have been doing cross fit for about 4 years now. I wanted to take my fitness journey in a new direction but still be able to continue in cross fit. Stepping foot into Jompikad was my introduction to the art of Muay Thai and after finishing my very first class, taught by Coach Eddie, I was immediately hooked. I used to do Muay Thai at Plus One Defense in Hartford a few years back. I loved it but had to stop going once I moved to the New Haven area. For years I've been searching for a place with legitimate, traditional Muay Thai classes. So many places claim they teach "Muay Thai" but what they actually teach is cardio kickboxing OR MMA with some stand up. I've checked out a few places but usually left very disappointed. Sitan is the real deal and Eddie is a fantastic coach. He pushes his students but also took note of my past injuries and has been helpful in modifying what I do. Eddie uses all the traditional terms and warmups I learned up at Plus One, but what Eddie brings to his lessons is something even better: he is still fighting in pro fights. I've been going to sitan for probably a month now and I'm addicted to it I go once a day at least. It's an amazing gym best coaching your going to find anywhere coach Eddie is really nice and encouraging I was a complete novice when I started and my skills have progressed a lot since I've been here because of him. Ive had a few experiences training muay thai/boxing/kickboxing at gyms in the area before, and am blown away by what I have seen so far at Sitan. I joined just a few weeks ago, and already Eddie has helped me to get into much better shape while pushing me as a coach. Because it just opened the classes have been small so far, but that has been amazing because they provide an opportunity to get dedicated coaching from a world class fighter and instructor. I first came to Sitan Gym CT because of its NY gym's reputation as a "fighter's gym". I was not disappointed. This is the closest training you can get around here to actually training in Thailand. I've trained at a few gyms in Phuket and Bangkok for several weeks at a time and the regimen is very similar if not the same. Muay Thai is Eddie's passion and it really shows in his teaching. I recently moved to CT and was looking for a good muay thai gym. I came in to Sitan and the place was immaculate. During the classes, the instructor is great. He gets around to helping everyone and by the end of the day you really notice your improvement. Also, I had been smoking a lot and hadn't had much exercise for a few months when I started at this gym. The instructor let me take it at my own pace and adjusted what he taught to my skill level. It is already a big plus when you can be trained by a professional Muay Thai fighter. An even bigger plus is the time and attention Eddie puts into his instruction, even into the most beginner of students, who probably doesn't even need such a high level instructor.
