Marcello's class was the primary reason I went to Intensity, his music is always great, his routines always high energy, and you always feel incredible after his class. In regards to the woman who was asked to move from the front row and then proceeded to cry ageism and emotional distress, give me a break. You sound like a white entitled whiner whose ego was bruised. If you can't keep up with the moves, you should NEVER be in the front row of any class- ever... Do yourself a favor and go to one of Marcello's classes, you'll sweat like crazy and have a huge smile on your face the whole time. read more

This is my happy place, especially Marcello's Dance Fitness (Zumba) class. I took a break because of COVID and am so thrilled to be back dancing ,smiling and getting a great workout! Marcello is creative and keeps class challenging through his varied routines. I highly recommend him. The class is also filled with a wonderful community of women that like to have fun! Pros: The fitness area and locker rooms are VERY clean. Equipment is kept in good shape. Doesn't ever seem to get too busy, so you never have to worry about waiting for a machine. Steam room is a nice touch as well. Cons: Quite expensive for what you get. I understand that the higher cost does help keep the crowds down, so maybe that's a plus. I'd gladly pay more to keep this place from becoming The Edge. The hours are pretty limited compared to any other gym I've been a member of. Closes at 8:30 on most days, like 6:30 on Fridays and around 2-3 on weekend. Overall I recommend this gym, but I think they need to revisit their amenities compared to the cost. Once the Equinox opens in Southport I think they're going to be in trouble unless they step their game up. They will have Equinoxs on either side of them (Darien and Southport) and those have much better amenities for almost the same price. read more

My experience has been very positive so far. I got their $46 groupon deal and after a very quick signup, I was ready to go. However, I could not attend a single class because I got too tired from my recent trip to Asia. I emailed Kelsey and she extended 2 weeks free for me, so it's nice! I took my first class this morning and the spinning session could have been a bit better (instructor could be more structured and cycling equipment could show resistance level). Intensity runs a flawless operation. The equipment is shiny and new, the locker rooms are beautiful, the classes are inspiring, and the instructors are highly qualified and professional. I had the opportunity to train with Kris Anne on the Pilates reformer machine and she was wonderful- very knowledgable and fun! She made the hour fly by, and I felt it the next day. Something I always appreciate. If you are looking for a health club in the area, you have to try Intensity. Take advantage of the 7 day trial and you will never leave. I didn't. I have to say that I am more than happy with my experience at Intensity. The staff that work there are always friendly and chatty to me, and are on a first name basis with me all the time. The bathrooms are always clean and spotless. They have a really cool childwatch room run by very friendly and nurturing staff, but above everything else the level of instructors far surpasses anything I have ever experienced before, especially coming from Los Angeles where I belonged to numerous gyms out there. I shall be a regular member of Intensity for many years to come. read more

I am a Pilates teacher so I have spent my whole adult life in gyms. Intensity is my favorite gym by far. The babysitters are highly qualified and so wonderful- Andrea is unflappable and manages the kids with kindness. She is always doing sweet art projects that I would never bother with at my house. Paint? Glitter? Amazing. The staff are warm and welcoming; the owner, Clair, knows me and my kids and has gone out of her way to accommodate us when she should have just been annoyed. I take Herman's classes and have seen better results with his workout system than I could have hoped for. I had 20 lbs from my last pregnancy that I could not get rid of even though I was running 25 mi/wk, doing Pilates and yoga while counting my calories. I lost the weight incredibly fast doing his classes. Herman is a genius. I feel amazing and have made wonderful friends in the process. read more

When I first went to intensity I had no clue who to talk to to sign up for a membership as there was nobody at the desk. Finally one lady came to talk to me. She signed me up but was very rude and clearly looked down on me, however she was the only staff member who displayed a negative attitude. The rest of the staff were nice enough but whenever I saw an trainer working with someone I would see the trainer just tell the person what to do and then go off and do a set of their own workout. (Maybe I just misread those situations but I saw it multiple times.) As for their facility, it's very small and not really stocked with a lot of machines. They say they have a running track but from what I saw, it was just a hundred meter straight track and half of that room was used as one of the two studios where they have classes. In the workout area they had a select few machines, not really a wide assortment but they had most of the essentials. As for free weights, they had a full set of dumbbells, but they had the worst set of bars and plates. The wholes in the plates were significantly larger than the bar and so they would wobble while on the bar which really threw off my balance. As someone whose workout really relies on barbells, this was the deal breaker for me. If you do decide to go here, I hope you have a better experience. read more

This is a review of Intensity Events, the club's studio space where we held our son's bar mitzvah party. "We create, you celebrate" as advertised by the owners of this space. You choose the food and drink yourself, a big plus, as it doesn't lock you into a specific caterer. The assumption was the folks at Intensity would take care of the remaining party details. Not so, and wasn't made clear from the beginning. Shortly before the party date I was told by the owner that people spend "thousands and thousands of dollars on a party planner" but was never advised nor given a referral to hire one from the beginning. We didn't interact with party planning professionals, but staff from the fitness club. One employee seemed out of her depth, making mistakes from rental counts to invoicing. When I dropped off several boxes of party supplies, the owner waved her hand where to put them and walked away, neither offering assistance nor even propping the door open for me. Oftentimes throughout the process, I felt shabbily treated, bullied and intimidated. The event space was expensive, at that time charging $550. an hour with very little time allotted beforehand for set up. I negotiated price with them, something that was thrown back at me at every turn. Further, the owner appears to "double dip" on rentals. Eventually I learned this was to offset labor costs, but again, it wasn't made clear from the beginning. When I tried to make a change to a rental item, I was treated with a testy attitude and told I was wasting the staff's time. The heat wasn't working properly--AT ALL--the chilly night of our party. Many of our guests, including myself, wore coats inside. This issue, though acknowledged by the owner after our event, was never addressed further in the way of an explanation or an apology. Marcello, their Zumba instructor at the time, coordinated party entertainment. While I was told I could use anyone else, I thought it best to use Marcello since he was familiar with the space and it's one stop shopping from DJ to photo booths. Marcello made mistakes that could have been easily avoided. Days before the event he convinced me I didn't need a Motivator and later in the same conversation accused me of keeping that person on hold. He didn't have the DJ contact me (his brother no less!) for my son's request list or have that person check in beforehand to familiarize himself with any details. In the end, Marcello gave the entertainment staff the wrong start time for our party. There was frantic setting up, fussing with sound and lights as we arrived, including the DJ's sound equipment taking up an entire table while our guests were having appetizers. The photo booth wasn't tented properly, something Marcello acknowledged. He promised a partial refund for this rental yet that never happened. In a post mortem conversation, Marcello wasn't apologetic about any of these mistakes and tried to turn the story around in a "shit happens" kind of way. For a 3 hour party for a milestone event, this attitude felt hurtfully arrogant and cavalier. After all this grief I'm not sure it was a complete surprise to receive a phone call days after the party to tell me that a guest's high heels had damaged the dance floor. The cost to replace their entire studio floor? $48,000.00! Our insurance company initially rejected the claim for lack of evidence, but eventually settled two years later when the owners relentlessly began preparing a lawsuit against us. (Interesting coda that to-date, said "destroyed" dance floor hasn't been replaced, though the club has since remodeled bathrooms, built a new squash facility and an owner has opened an Elliptical studio. So infer what you'd like from that information.) Note that we didn't come into Intensity for this single event, but were longtime tennis clients who spent thousands of dollars a year for many years at the club. It was baffling that this relationship meant nothing to the folks at Intensity. Their greedy and selfish attitude tainted what should have been a happy memory for us. Though all the red flags were there, I should've cut our losses before the event and run the other way. Please learn from our mistake and have your party elsewhere! read more

I love working out at Intensity. I've gone to a lot of other gyms in the area and believe Intensity is the best. I have been a member now for over six years. The locker rooms are sparkling clean. The instructors are all super friendly and helpful. The classes are amazing and the choice of classes is the best. The equipment is always spotless and there is never a wait for a machine. My only con is that there are no group exercises classes offered on Friday nights. I recommend anyone to try it out for the free week offered. Take as many classes as you can so you get a real feel for the gym. read more

I love Intensity. This facility is high end, luxurious and inviting fitness and tennis club. I find that it is always clean and neat due to the cleaner's hard continuous work throughout the day. THE BATHROOMS are always clean... I have never found anything dirty about the bathrooms! I believe for all the gyms I've been to Intensity offers the nicest bathrooms, they have make up remover, razors, deoderant, mouth wash, q-tips (all of these are NEATLY organized by sink), shampoo and CONDITIONER, body wash, hair dryers, towels and really fancy rainforest showers! Not only do I love doing my own workout here, but intensity offers a mix of classes that I thoroughly enjoy, weather its, Zumba with Marcello, bodypump, spinning, pilates...etc, I know I can always count on their staff to provide a workout where I know I will sweat and burn calories! Intensity also offers babysitting, which is very nice for a mother or father that just wants to get a quick workout in, I fully trust all the staff with my child! My child has no problem leaving me to go play with the staff or the other kids in the babysitting room! I have never had a problem with any of the staff as they have always been friendly and inviting, they also are willing to help at all times. My friend, see's one of the Personal Trainers theres and can not say enough good things about that program... NOT to mention she looks great and is really paying off! I have taken indoor cycling class with many different instructors over the years, but Dan stands out because he actually teaches the class. While many teachers ride in the front throughout the class, Dan walks among the riders and observes. His reminders about proper technique are critical in getting the most out of the ride. Those who heed his detailed advice will surely avoid potential injuries that can result from poor positioning on the bike. The songs he selects for the class not only provide a good beat, but also reflect his excellent taste in music . Dan will not disappoint! He has been teaching with dedication for many years at Intensity. He adds a lot of value to the class, the way only a great instructor can! read more

The fitness center is clean, and small. It's basically like having a private gym. The classes are small and personal, it's nice. But the price is what sets this place back, 125 dollars a month for a gym that is somewhat outdated? No thanks. I'd rather join Edge next doors. The front desk people are always very rude and inconsiderate. They care too much about making money off of you. Classes aren't structured sometimes, some of newer teachers don't really know what to do. read more

Intensity markets themselves as a high end fancy gym. However, they oversold. For the expensive monthly price tag ($125), I was expecting a huge, state of the art facility. Intensity is not. They have one class room, which holds both yoga and spinning. This means, whenever I showed up for a spinning class, I had to wheel my bike out. Sometimes, if I was running late there was not a bike, so I would have to go to the closet and roll one out. I'd be fine with this if I was paying Edge's 19.99 price tag, but for $125 it seems to take away from the advertised fancy experience. In the actual gym, there are maybe 5 treadmills, 5 ellipticals, and 5 bikes. They were never crowded, at least. But the lights are so bright in the gym and the mirrors are everywhere (probably to make it seem larger than it is), that I always felt a bit uncomfortable working out. I also never found the people working at the desk friendly.. one time my key tag did not swipe, and they just stared at me struggling without any offer to help. And the bathrooms were never that clean. Blah, not worth it. read more

Intensity Tennis is the worst. I am giving it one star because the tennis pros and people managing the front desk are generally pretty good. The business office, however, deserves negative stars. The owners/managers seem to give absolutely no thought to actually building any good will with clients and instead attempt to nickel and dime every last cent out of the customers they manage to keep until these clients get fed up and leave Intensity in disgust. I wanted to really like this and stay at this gym but they do not work with anyone who does not work in the area. There is limited equipment and few classes that someone who has a job can attend. The staff turnover is continual and some of the instructors do not seem to have any type of recognized certification. Not worth the costs as there are much better options available for the same / less the area. The tennis court usage is the only redeeming value of this facility but still not worth the monthly costs. read more

This review is for the Barre class. It was my first time taking a barre class and boy was it an incredible workout-the instructor, Erika, was one of the best instructors I've had. She makes you feel good, welcomed me into the class (it was my first time being at intensity), engaged me in the class, and motivated me to work harder. She modifies your position, when needed, which is very helpful! The problem is, intensity is pretty expensive, so I unfortunately have not joined. I recommend, though, to try Erika's class-you and your butt won't regret it! read more

Intensity is a little expensive, but you really get great value... Worth every penny. I'm starting with cons, because there are so few. The cons: - It's a little pricey. - One of the studios for classes is separate/across the parking lot (for Zumba) which deters me from taking that class. - Pilates reformer sessions are offered, but they are in the basement of the separate tennis building across the parking lot - and while the space is clean, it's small and there are only 1 of each machine. - They don't offer group pilates reformer classes, so they only way to take those is through private training sessions. The pros: - 3 big studios for classes plus a training room, and a separate workout/stretching space. - PLUS separate tennis. - It's ALWAYS clean. - Bathrooms are spa-like, nice showers, lockers, a steam room, hair dryers/bath amenities... It's actually pleasant to get ready for work there after a work out. - The instructors are pretty amazing - they are experts and all say hello to you by name - EVERY time they see you. - There are not a ton of machines, but everything you need is there, and in the mornings there is never a wait for a machine. - TVs are nice for working out, plus there's a smoothie bar and day care/babysitting. - Online sign up for classes is great, I always get a spot in spinning even if I sign up the night before at 11pm. - The best thing I like about Intensity? With the exception of yoga classes, they let you join classes late and leave early when needed - which for a full time working mother of a toddler is INCREDIBLE. It means I can fit in a 30 minute portion of a class in the morning between day care drop off and work without getting attitude from the gym for it. Extremely supportive and flexible facility/staff that makes me feel welcome - even though I am NOT one of the super fit, tan, perfect-bodied ladies who lunch. Try their free week membership before signing up, they will even honor a groupon for new customers if the price is lower than their current promotion. Enjoy! read more

I initially went to Intensity with a Groupon and I ended up joining. Intensity is a intimate gym and I love it. The facility can be busy (usually for classes). They have an amazing selection of classes (about 100 classes a week). The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you have a question they go out of their way to find an answer to it. The machines all have their own televisions and they also have televisions on the wall (and will put on any channel you ask for). They have all the machines that every gym has and they are new and in good shape. The best thing about the gym is the locker rooms. The locker rooms are spa like. They have a steam room (and a sauna next door) and there is a person who sends the day keeping the locker rooms clean (they are always immaculate). They provide you with secure lockers. The rainforest shower with jet sprays is heavenly. The people that patronize the facility are usually friendly and outgoing. The areas for improvement: They are closed on Christmas and New Year's. They could really use a Precor AMT machine. Only 10 channels are available on the machine tvs but the wall ones are basically unlimited. Westport Ave is a pain. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. This place is a keeper. read more

It's always exciting to discover a real gem, and that's what this place is. Quality and variety are the words that come to mind when describing how awesome this place is. The staff has greeted me with a smile every time I walk in the door, and asked if I needed any help. I especially enjoy the Method class taught by Erika (talk about a challenge!), and I'm looking forward to trying a couple class styles I have yet to explore. They have the widest selection of classes in the area, all day every day of the week, so I can fit a great workout into my schedule no matter what I'm doing that day. The facilities are all brand new, and they have at least 4 different studios which often host simultaneous classes. The instructors are dependable and experts in their field, and very encouraging to clients of all fitness levels. I have personally recommended this gym to my family and friends because I like it so much. read more

Dirty, moldy facilities. Staff makes numerous scheduling and billing errors. Appeal to owners for a resolution results in only rude and belligerent responses. You will be well served by avoiding this tennis center. They should be reported to the BBB and USTA for unethical business practices in addition to the unhealthy facilities. read more
